Introduction

Hello all and welcome to the competitive AP morde build.Be carefull as this build is sucessful but it is dangerous to use sometimes.The truth is that AP morde owns hard but is very item dependant.So if you a are a new morde player please dont try this.It might seem pretty hard to play morde in this way.This build appeals more to players with some experience with tank morde and want to try something cool and different.

This is a guide for people who wish to :
remove 70% of the opponents health with one item and morde's ulti
deal a lot of damage while being tanky
have CC spells
deal A LOT OF damage with only 2 items
experience something different
have fun

Masteries

We aim for an AP tanky morde so :

-AP
You get your AP CDR and Magic penenetration from Archmage's Savvy ,Sorcery and Archaic Knowledge.

-TANK
Use the rest of your mastery points in defense but be careful as Strength of Spirit is not needed and still some people tend to use it with morde since they are bored to read what it offers ( it gives hp regen according to your mana ).

Abilities and tips

Assuming that you all know what morde's abilities do shall not give explanations.Though i will remind you some tips on how to play morde and how to use his abilities.

-Use and to farm minions and keep your shield up.With an AP build though both abilities have great damage potential.

-Use a devastating combo of , and to get rid of your enemies.You can even remove 70 % + of their hp fairly early on.

-Control the minion from with alt and right click.

-You can shield yourself , allies , minions and your little soul minion with and deal some AOE damage although we wont be focusing much on this ability.

Item build

-CORE BUILD

HEXTECH GUNBLADE
This is a top priority item and the one you should be focusing on.It is simply amazing as it gives you both lifesteal from normal attacks and spell vamp from spells.In this way you get back your hp whatever you do.This is a great benefit as you realise since a not so tanky Morde can be quite hp hungry(at least early on).Secondly this item gives you AP and some AD which we dont really care about.Do not forget to use the active effect of Hextech Gunblade.It boths slows and deals damage to a single enemy and since Morde has no CC's the slow it offers is a true gift.

DEATHFIRE GRASP (DFG)
This item is incredibly awesome and stacks perfectly with your ultimate.
It offers together with AP some CDR and Mana regen."Mana regen?Then it is not a good item for Morde" a noob would have said.Wrong.When you activate the item's ability it deals magic damage to an enemy equal 30 % of their current health with a minimun of 200 damage and with just 1 min CD, perfect for ulti stacking.With your ultimate , this item's ability and lets say ignite you can remove 60% + of an enemy's hp.Try it out.I am not lying.

RYLAI'S CRYSTAL SCEPTER
Finally a tanky item.It grants you AP and 500 sweet HP as well as slow on each magic damage spell you do.Simply owning and great.Lots of CC makes Morde a beast.

SORCERER'S SHOES
Typical mage boots that give you 20 magic pen.The best choice.

RABADON'S DEATHCAP
I like this last slot item since it gives me a lot of AP to own even harder.

BELOW MORE ITEMS ARE PRESENTED,MOSTLY TANKY ONES.THIS IS NOT MY STANDARD BUILD,HOWEVER IT IS AN AWESOME CHOICE.I MIGHT MAKE CHANGES OR PRIORITISE ITEMS DIFFERENTLY ACCORDING TO MY ENEMIES.ALL THESE DETAILS SHALL BE EXPLAINED FURTHER ON.

More item choices

gives you HP,MR,MS and HP regen.It is a tanky item and a very decent and good choice if you are getting pwned.

is an item that combines AP with MS too.A good choice.

is a good hp stacking item.

is an item that can be risky.If you are doing well though pick it.

works well on Morde as strange as it may seem.

gives you a lot of MS.It is an epic but tanky item.

is awesome if you need more spell vamp.

is always good for Morde.

is a very good choice which combines Ap with armor.

could be replaced by or even .

Runes and skill priority

I get AP and magic pen from my marks and glyphs and HP from seals and quints.You could also consider taking CRD seals.

Skill priority should be : R > E > Q > W.

Playstyle

At the begging of the game make sure to farm a lot!But be careful and do not waste your hp as you shouldnt recall too often.Play it safe and try not to die.When you have gathered enough gold for your boots and revolver , recall and buy them.

Start playing more offensively but keep on farming and dont let the enemies push.As soon as you got gold go back and finish Hextech Gunblade.

Start spamming spells anywhere and you shall lose no hp.At fights use the ability the item gives you.Farm more.

As soon as you got gold recall once more.You can also kill the dragon for extra gold.Now you should have made your DFG.

Start owning your enemies.At teamfights if you are winning pop ulti and DFG + ingnite later on,if not pop them early on to grab kills and help your team.

Make Rylais.From now on you are OP.You have health,slow on each spell , immense damage output and spell vamp.

Spells

I choose the typical spells for Morde.Ignite is necessary.You could also pick Teleport (if you cant live without it), Flash , Exhaust , and Clar.... no wait.
