You generally do bad against supports with way more CC and speed than you. Super heal enchanters are also really annoying for some reason. Mobile ADCs are also a huge weakness to Sett. Play smart, don't take unnecessary damage.
Alistar
Annoying because his engage can mess up yours. Save your W for after he headbutts you. Generally his ADC will walk up to engage on you so you might be able to E the ADC then. Alistar also gets way tanky in the later game.
Amumu
Haven't played many games against Amumu. However, he has a lot of CC. Try to tank it so your ADC doesn't have to worry about it, but generally try to dodge his Q's.
Annie
Not that hard. She just has some stupid right click abilities and you'll have to build some MR but her kit has no dash to escape from you and only has a stun every 4 abilities.
Aphelios
Pretty weak early-mid game without a strong support [But his late is strong]. Bully him hard and make it hard for him to poke you by scaring him off with your superior biceps. (jk)
Ashe
[WORKS FOR SUP & ADC]
Go Dead Mans, her slows will never let you get her. You can probably catch her off-guard with hexflash. If you go in at a bad time it will be hard to escape her later without flash D:
you can also ult anyone else available to reach her easily ;)
Bard
Bard isn't that hard. He does do a freaky amount of damage though, and has that stupid invulnerability ult.
However, catching him with E makes him an easy target, since he is generally pretty squishy and has no dash to escape.
Blitzcrank
Sit behind the minion wave, he is useless if he can't get you. his knockup is a bit annoying but it is much better for you to get it than ADC.
Brand
It's all a matter of dodging his abilities. If he ults you, walk away from your teammates please. Get MR.
Braum
I haven't played many games against Braum, but I am a Braum connoissuer. His stun passive can make disengages hard for you and ADC, and his Q has pretty annoying slows. However, he doesn't do a ton of damage after that (not including ult) and reactivating passive stun takes a few seconds. He does get pretty tanky on armor though, so dealing damage can get hard for you. Just try to out-tank him.
Caitlyn
Annoying ADC. She can poke you and most other ADC picks with ease, and a half-decent caitlyn knows how to dodge your E with hers.
Draven
Draven has a really strong poke, he will usually spend E first as an engage so you won't have to worry about losing him later in the fight, but he can get fast with W.
Ezreal
Ezreal's face makes me want to punch him- But seriously, after he gets his dumb E trying to E him is futile. I would rather play it safe in lane till teamfight phase or wait for a gank. You can only catch him before he gets E or if you can catch him on CD (unless the player is bad and doesn't E away from you). Try to cover Q damage for your ADC if needed.
Galio
chonke rocc. I don't see this support often but Galio is not a difficult support to lane against. You should build some MR and care for his taunts, but otherwise easy to duel. He is better at roaming than you with his ult.
Ivern
Kind of an off-meta support so you won't see this guy often. He doesn't do a ton of damage and his Q isn't ideal for ADC, especially if it lands on you. His W gives a damage buff and his E is a shield and can do some damage/slows after exploding if it's near you. His R does do some heavy damage though, and Daisy's stuns get pretty annoying in a fight.
Janna
eugh. No fun champ. She can poke you easily with W and get a knockup out of Q often, although it is possible for you to dodge it. Her E can make it somewhat hard for you to to poke and can backfire on you with the AD buff. R also completely messes up any engage you started. However, if you catch her with E, make her suffer <3
Jhin
Not a big deal early. He has little way of escaping you [except for his trap and W which are both conditional.] and his W has a long CD. He is easy to flash-E, and you can get a kill out of most engages.
Jinx
Annoying poke and a strong W. You will never catch her if she gets a kill [because of passive]. However, she is one of the easier champs to flash-E on.
Kai'Sa
Kai'sa's E makes it hard for you to land your E. Scales hard. Try to catch her off-guard in lane by hexflashing out of a bush.
Kalista
Kalista is the kite champ. Luckily, she is also a rare pick. Just play the lane safe. If you can land an E on her take the most advantage you can on it. Ask for ganks.
Karma
Not a super hard sup to deal with. Her Q can be dodged and you can also walk out of W. However, her E shield speed boost can make landing that E harder.
Kog'Maw
Kog'maw has a lot of utility in his kit against tanks, namely you. However he doesn't have any hard CC so it isn't impossible to engage him.
Leona
Whoever said Leona was an easy matchup is a liar (unless you know how to deal with her then please tell me). She has a ton of CC from level 1 and is super tanky in regards to her armor and MR. Try to take Leona's CC for your ADC, and focus killing enemy ADC. Ganks are much appreciated, but for the most part play it safe.
Lucian
Not the worst ADC to deal with. He can be pretty slippery with E and has poke on Q and W. Tank his ult for your ADC.
Lulu
Super easy (I have a 100% winrate against her) My only worry would be her ult, and polymorph. She will usually use that on you so make sure you are not jeopardizing yourself and ADC on an engage/fight.
Lux
Good permaban pick if you're in low ELO. Lots of supports main her. Otherwise, if you have to play against her, buy MR. Her skills aren't impossible to dodge, and she doesn't have a mobile escape from you.
Malphite
[It hurts my soul as a Sett main to know that a rock is faster than him </3] Anyways, his Q is super dumb and makes engages hard, and his ult is arguably as good as yours. He's not impossible to fight against however and aside from Q he cannot protect his ADC any other way. [also last I checked Sett beats rocks so-]
Maokai
Maokai is a super annoying support. The guaranteed way to win is by playing safe in lane phase. Try to make opportunities for your ADC to poke the enemy down while not over-extending. He is better than you at engaging a teamfight with his ult.
Milio
As long as you can dodge Q most if not all of the time you should be fine. I'm having traumatic flashbacks of him Q'ing me in the face as I write this :'[
Miss Fortune
Not a big deal, my only worry is face-tanking her ult [do NOT underestimate her DPS ever]. You can cancel her ult with E or R, any CC works. Bully her early, because her movespeed makes it harder as she increases level on W.
Morgana
Not impossible. Watch her E shield because she can block your E and R. In teamfights, if she ults on your team, you can ult her out of range. Try to tank Qs if your ADC doesn't know what the word 'dodge' means. :) [she might have stopwatch though, so I hope you all just walk away <3]
Nami
[yes i know, i put a fish on major threat but hear me out because i've played her against sett and vice versa ]
As an enchanter, Nami has strong healing and AP poke. Her Q also always messes up any engage. Overall unbearable experience. [ask for ganks because she can't handle that]
Nautilus
He has pretty good stuns and can get tanky but is not Leona level. Try to tank Q for the enemy. [it can actually work in your favor by bringing you closer to him.]
Neeko
I actually found this threat by playing against Sett support as her. Neeko can just poke you all day. Her E cd is shorter than yours so she can cc you if she feels threatened whenever you approach her. The enemy Sett's mistake there was not taking advantage of hex flash in the bush. Neeko can still E you however. (plus you can tank way more damage from the ADC than her).
Nilah
pre-6 go full aggro on her. She will be forced to leave lane over and over because of how much you can bully her. Be careful with her W because it specifically dodges basic attacks, your biggest source of damage (aside from W). She can mess up your fight if she plays this right. She can scale hard late game, so make sure to build antiheal.
Pantheon
Honestly it's always cool to see a Panth sup. (bros unite) However, this is a bit of a skill matchup. You have to watch his E because it can cancel even a fully charged W. However, you can catch him off his guard with E. He also has own stun with W, you should save your W for the damage you will take. If ADC gets W'ed E the enemy right away. Honestly easy matchup in my experience.
Pyke
Play someone else. (if you have tips against him please share, would be much appreciated) But if you have to play against him do it safe. Call for your jg until he comes for a gank. This guy is so slippery you will never catch him. (unless he's really bad)
Rakan
Bro is pretty sneaky and can feel hard to catch with all his dashes. However, his healing is subpar, and his own engage is a bit of a risk for himself, since you can E if he gets up close. The worst part of his kit is probably his ult, and can be dangerous with the right ADC (say, Miss Fortune).
Rell
Not the most popular support but the literal bane of Sett's existence. Play another champ, or if you're stuck with her, beg jg until he comes to gank you.
Samira
She's pretty weak pre-6 so try to bully her then. Post-6, you can't cancel her ult with E, but you can get her away from your team with ult. build antiheal.
Senna
Actually not that bad. True that she has a ton of poke potential, but if you catch her with E she's dead.
Seraphine
Ability damage is annoying but you can hexflash her all day. (watch for her ult if you're by their tower.)
Shaco
Dumb support you won't see too often. If you don't engage him he can't really hurt you. make your priority keeping bushes clear and stay by your ADC to punch that weird smirky clown away.
Shen
As two toplaners who decided playing supp was a good idea, this is a pretty interesting matchup. Most Shen supps i've met are OTPs, and so you may have a hard time dealing with a player who knows the champion inside and out. This a huge skill matchup, where you have to maximize his weaknesses while covering your own. For example, his E is a powerful tool that taunts anyone in the ability's hitbox. However, If you dodge that, he has no escape, and can be easily E stunned. his W is a pain, since he can null many damage sources (which I am not too clear on). He also has his ult, which comes with a shield and works as a free teleport, makes his roaming superior to yours. However, aside from raw Q damage, you can beat him in damage output, as Shens usually aren't building for damage, but tankiness. Respectable matchup.
Sivir
Sivir has good poke with Q and W. It can be hard to E her when she has her Spell Shield up.
Sona
Not the worst sup to deal with, but she has decent poke and heals. She is however super squishy and is literally dead upon landing E. [scales on items]
Soraka
Actually gross to deal with. Sett feels bad against healer enchanters. She will be healing her ADC to full 24/7 and can heal herself by targeting you with q over and over and over and over and- you get it. She stinks. Buy antiheal (chempunk preferable so u can punch her harder). You should ask for ganks, which makes lane way easier since she's not some freaky tank monster early.
Swain
Not so hard pre-6. You can get a lead on him at this time, and mess up his scaling. When he ults make sure your whole team backs off [unless he's stupid weak because you beat the feathers out of him pre-6.] It will last for as long as someone is in his range.
Taric
Really strong enchanter [but melee tank]. I have dueled him and watched his hp just not change because of his massive q heals.-_- Build antiheal
Thresh
He isn't that hard pre-6, but his armor scaling gets really annoying. Catch him when he's trying to get his orbs.
Tristana
Annoying ADC to deal with because of her jump. However, if you time it right, you can cancel her jump with Sett's E. It's right after her jump animation starts, but it may take some practice.
Twitch
Twitch feels weak early so harass him then. His ult is strong enough to kill even you :( so don't underestimate his scaling.
Varus
I guess he has a good poke, and a charged Q can chunk you [or oneshot ADC]. Also, watch for his ult. If you stand in the circle while someone else is stunned walk out of it so it doesn't pass to you.
Vayne
[wow i just- i barely have words] What can I say? she passively does true damage based on enemy's max hp. GG. Try to harass her early. Build attack speed slow items.
Vel'Koz
Do not fear the eyeball man. He is a pretty intimidating support with his weird mathematical prowess but is super susceptible to your engages. Stay calm and watch for his abilities, they are easier to dodge than you might think, and protect yourself in the minion wave. Getting yourself poked is just stupid. Also save your W for his ult. Hold it as long as you reasonably can. laser eye man go brrr
Xayah
[feather go brr] walk away from the feathers she shoots at you that land on the ground. Standing in too many feathers can stun. She is pretty sneaky with her ult.
Yasuo
I recommend going Fighter Sett here. That way you can reasonably duel him, since he's one of very few melee ADCs. Build antiheal, protect your ADC.
Yuumi
Nasty rat, good for you, now you only have to deal with one enemy, but she will be healing and shielding a ton. Get anti-heal.
Zeri
I guess she's fast at running over walls and stuff. Not a hyper mobile champ otherwise imo, you can catch her with E.
Ziggs
[FOR ADC AND SUP] just build a lot of MR. he can poke you very easily without much consequence. E is his only mobile escape.
Zilean
Not the worst matchup for Sett. A smart Zilean however will mess up your engages with his slow/speed boost and Q stun. Care for when he applies ult. Do not attack until the ult duration ends or they will receive half their hp back.
Zyra
Easy. You can tank her flower damage well. her E is also simple to dodge. :]
Sett
Your job as sup is to take as much damage you can away from ADC and offer as much CC and damage (since you lack in other utilitarian values) You synergize well with ADCs who have some sort of CC or can play well off of yours.
Aphelios
[<-<]Actually really good. his Gravitum gun is a great playmaker, and he has his own forms of sustain. Just give him a lot of opportunities for kills, and he will carry you hard.
Ashe
[Hard to lose lane with this ADC when played right]Ashe slow is literally the best, you can always catch up to the enemy. Ult stun is also super good.
Caitlyn
Caitlyn is arguably one of the strongest ADCs in the game based on damage output. She can follow up your engages well, and has her own form of cc in her W and E.
Draven
Epic lane. You can take E lvl 1 or 2 and watch him get fed in a snap.
Ezreal
Fun duo. Try to build utilty to improve his performance. Great engage followup as well, and can guarantee kills with his global ult.
Hwei
[i played with one in PBE, and he never followed up my engages.] otherwise, he has decent supportive abilities, like the speedboost and shield, and great poke.
Jhin
[I can't give him a 5 for obvious reasons] Jhin has an amazing stun with his W, great followup, and bonus movespeed when he crits so he is never too behind. His ult is also really great while in lane phase and in teamfights.
Jinx
[sorry this synergy felt more like a rant]
Jinx synergy can range from low-ideal based on her player's skill knowledge. I have had Jinx ADCs that literally ignore me and int by getting in the enemy botlane's face, (therefore taking a ton of damage and dying) and as Sett pre-6 you only have E to help regarding CC. You won't always be able to take aggro off of ADC unfortunately. A good Jinx will always play behind you, and can follow up a proper engage with E and has a great slow on her W. A great ADC when she has a good pilot.
Kai'Sa
On paper, the synergy between these two looks pretty great. Sett can stun an enemy and Kai'sa deals a huge burst on them. Personally, about 90% of Kai'sas i have played with are uber toxic and it's really hard to play with them. ;( hopefully it goes better for you.

Sett can NOT play [NOT EVER] with slow scaling AP champs. I speak from experience.

Not a common sight, but Lux APC pairs pretty well with Sett. You can build more damage here so that you can capitalize off of Lux's CC better. [Also make sure to build at least one utility item for her].
Miss Fortune
Her E slow is great for when you are trying to get an E stun on the enemy. You can make her r more volatile by using e to keep the enemy in. You can even ult someone into her ult, but be careful not to compromise her play.
Nilah
Really fun ADC to play with. Early engages are super stronk. Try not roam away from her too much, it's better for her scaling if she has a sup to help her secure kills and keep her safe. [only warning is that she is melee and at higher risk than other conventional ADCs]
Samira
Samira does great with tank engage supports [personally I would rather play naut here but this is a sett guide so] Just keep in mind when you engage pre-6 that she's not as strong as after she gets her ult [which is a massive powerspike] Don't engage and expect her to always go in early. [this mainly depends on the player though]
Senna
Senna has super good damage and heals and an auto attack slow. (she can also get this from her Q) Protect her, she is very squishy. [also keep in mind you are both AD and how that could affect your team damage output]
Seraphine
Pretty good. She offers AP damage and heals. Her Ult charm is so good in teamfights and lane 2v2s.

Tristana
Super good early aggro potential. Maybe my favorite ADC to play with. Also great in teamfights together.
Twitch
It just feels bland ig. His early game is too weak for my liking, but you can figure out some decent plays with his Q.
Varus
Varus capitalizes on any cc you give him. Keep the enemy away from him.
Vayne
Vayne gets a lot out of your E stuns and can follow up engages well, not to mention her gross damage output. Her E is also great for disengages, or stunning the enemy.

Low Skill Floor-High Skill Ceiling: But wait, doesn't Sett being a simple champ make his skill ceiling low?? Viable: Maybe this is just me coping as a Sett Main, but I do believe he is viable in 4 lanes. [Top,JG,Mid,Sup] Despite his cons, he is such a strong champion at heart that with the right mindset, you can definitely make it possible.
High Sustain: Sett is a very forgiving champ in the sense that he has a super strong sustain [Not like Dr. Mundo/Garen but I wouldn't trade it]. It's great for Sett since it heals him during and after duels consistently. He also has a strong shield in fights and plenty of innate damage.
Easy to kite: Sett has no dash in his kit or haste to get him away from abilities.
Slow: Sett has one speed boost imbedded in his Q, but it's for a short period and must face an enemy champion.
Hard to Disengage: After you ult into a teamfight, you are pretty much forced to all-in. It is hard to escape a fight without a distraction or flash.
Predictable Kit: It's super easy for an enemy to flash out of your W, so you have to guarantee an E stun. Everyone already just knows what he does by now.
Hard to stick: Ok. So a lot of champs are low range, but it's easy to come up with one ability they have with some crazy stun, slow or speed boost. Sett requires two abilities to catch an enemy. Q and E. If he misses one he cannot use the other. This requires you to think past chasing an enemy blindly, and think tactically. [having flashbacks of Kai'sa dash as I write this ugh]

I have actually made this guide two other times. You may or may not have seen it, it has the same title and everything though, but they both will be kept archived.
However, I think third time's the charm since it's a new season and I know for sure what I want my guide to be about. I want this to be a longterm project in which I can add on for years to come and help fledgling Sett players to grow in skills, knowledge, and hopefully LP!
I started playing in the beginning of S12 but didn't know what lane I wanted to main. So I played all lanes in normals and tried most champs.
As soon as I could, I began playing ranked but the experience was unbearable. Teammates were always incredibly toxic and I was still pretty new to the game. Because of this I ended up staying in normals for a while until I once again mustered the courage to try ranked in S13.
I finished my placements having won 1 out of the 10 games due to unforseen teammate circumstances. I landed in Iron but got myself to Gold this season mainly playing Sett. Gold doesn't sound like a lot to many players and probs total garbage. But I was so excited to know that I could carry myself from the very bottom of the ladder to a rank I never expected in a single season. I was ok with bronze this year honestly.
Now we are in S14, and I am hoping to get to high Gold-low Plat. I simply want to improve this year so I can be a better assistance to you who are reading this guide(and also show my cool high elo status jkjk). I have a good feeling this is going to be a great season for supports and a chance for Sett to shine as a Support [as well as other lanes :)].
