Introduction

Let's be honest, you looked through the latest published guides and spotted this catchy titled one for Trundle. Your first thoughts might have been "Wow another person pointing out that Trundle can jungle well, with another commmon itembuild." Well thats not my intention.
While its certainly true Trundle is an awesome Jungler I like to play him as a solotop bruiser.

I will discuss the itemization, cover some facts about his passive, explain my choice of runes to you.

I apologize in advance for grammatic or punctuation mistakes, but since I'm not a mother-tongue speaker u might forgive me.

Please do not judge this Guide by only reading it. Try it the way I tell you !

If you still think it sucks, feel free to downvote :)

Pros / Cons

Pros / Cons

spaaaaaaaaaaaaaace
Pros

+ easy to last hit
+ ultimate makes him really beefy in teamfights
+ can deal with CC
+ makes tanks bite in their keyboard/table
+ played properly no real weak game phase
space
space
Cons

- melee and only a "semi" gap-closer ( Contaminate)
- Madred's Bloodrazor can hurt with high HP and low MR
- looks like a walkin piece of **** accidentially resurrected by some stoned necromancer
- if your jungler is a ****head you gonna have a hard time

Runes

Rune Choices :
  • greater mark of desolation More damage = better lasthitting; easier kills
  • Less damage from enemy autoattacks/spells = lane sustain
  • Less damage from enemy spells = lane sustain
  • greater quintessence of vigor Higher life regeneration = lane sustain

Pretty self-explanatory and the runes synergize with your masteries. Yay !

Masteries

I go for very defensive 0 / 21 / 9 masteries.

The increased magic resistance and armor, synergize very well with the runes I chose making you really tanky and let you start with ( depending on your start item choice ) about 50 of both resistances.

Increased liferegeneration for good lane sustain.

Increased dodge simply because i like it better than the reduced minion damage and Ardor .
Feel free to switch the Greater Seal of Armor with Greater Seal of Evasion if it suits your playstyle better.

Increased life and 4% damage reduction ? Yes please!

In the Utility Tree u want to take all four points in Awareness and to choose Good Hands over preseverence.
You may ask why and it's perfectly explained here : Why preseverence sucks..

I take Greed over the other ones because I don't feel like I need the manaregeneration and I like to give the buffs to other people from my team who benefit better from it furthermore Greed gives you 240 gold in a 40 minute game. Thats 3 free sight ward :)

Items

The itembuild shown in the head of this guide is just a suggestion against a well balanced team with some physical and magic damage and you are still able to dish out some damage.

In generall I want you to think about the items you buy, don't buy them because I or Riot or another Guide tells you to. Make up your own mind which items are usefull for the current situation and enemy teamcomposition.

Sure I'm going to tell you about which items I choose for specific situations but you shouldn't take it as "TeH raight Build everyelse = n00b"

Startitems Solotop:
Again it's not set in stone with which item you start, but I got 3 basic "starter-items" and I use these 9 out of 10 games. You pretty much decide in the loading screen which items u buy first.

Starter Items

I use this setup if I am going to lane against someone which skillshots i want to dodge. (E.g : Cho'Gath with his annoying Rupture; Kennen with his frickin lightning speed Thundering Shuriken or Brand in some rare cases if the enemys running double ap or some strange tactic :D
space
The recent champion Talon whose damage is utterly based on physical damage is a good example for this setup
space
I like to call these people "point an click harasser", to call their names Ryze or Yorick, you want to sustain against their harrasment

For the rest of the itemization I have to tell you make up your mind! Consider items your team mates profit of, like Aegis of the Legion, Zeke's Harbinger or Frozen Heart

That Malzahar or Warwick giving you a hard time ? Think about a Quicksilver Sash

And most important of all : Buy those frickin sight ward !!!111 I can't stress enough how important they are.
So I just tell you like many people might told you before and told me.
Buy sight ward !
If you recall and you have 100 -300 gold left take some wards with you. Wards win games. They really do.

Skill Sequence

I max Rabid Bite out first. It gives AD to you, steals it from your enemy and resets your attack timer so it's really no problem to last hit with .

Next I max out Contaminate for the movementspeed, attackspeed and decreased CC duration buff.

I take one point in Pillar of Filth on level 4 to slow my opponent or cut off their escape routes. ( I will show you where and how to use it later to maximize it's effectiveness)

Of course you take Agony whenever you can.

At last I want to show you some facts about his passive Decompose :
Until level 4 u gain 2% of the maximum life of a dying enemy as a heal.
This percentage increases at:
from lvl 5 = 3%
from lvl 9 = 4%
from lvl 12 = 5%
< lvl 14 = 6%
this affects all enemy units. ( Creeps, champions, Summon: Tibbers, Summon Voidling )

Short example :
First enemy creepwave consists of 3 melee and 3 caster minions.
Melee minions start with 445 life; caster minions with 280.
(8,9*3)+(5,6*3) = 43,5 Life
Thats a free every 5 waves. ( Which is increasing by siege minions and minion levelling over time)

Some more facts about creeps:
Every third wave spawns a siege minion; starting with 700 life.
After minute 3 creeps start to level every 3rd minute.
Melee minions +20 life/3
Caster minions +15/3
Siege minions +27/3

How to use your skills

A very basic move is to reset your attack timer with Rabid Bite you simply autoattack and immediately press Q to reset the attack timer allowing you to secure creepkills or simply outdamage your opponent. (many people don't realize that u steal their attack damage and when they start to realize that you are outdamaging them they try to run, which should be followed by a + + in their face combo of you ! )

How to use Pillar of Filth :

If you can try to seperate single targets (preferred squishys out of position) like in the folowing picture

To show you excactly how to place them I have two more pictures for you.

Of course this works in the same places in the other jungle aswell.

A special trick with Contaminate is when you have a slow moving stun against you, like with his annoying Dazzle or with his Cryptic Gaze try to cast Contaminate right under your feet to minimize the CC effects.

Agony should be used to buff yourself and debuff the enemy tank / champ with the highest resistances. Over 6 seconds you steal 50 % !!! of their armor and magic resistance. This soften up tanks or can be used to focus one enemy down very quickly.

Your job in a teamfight

Basically your job is to cast your ultimate on that or to buff yourself.
Then Contaminate your way to the enemy carry and smash his or her face ! If you can manage it try to assist your team by setting up Pillar of Filth to protect your carry, safe a teammate or simply disrupt important enemy moves.
