Introduction

About Me

Hey, I'm Remmacs a Masters Aphelios Main from NA, I've hit challenger multiple times and I usually hover from Masters to Grandmaster for my average rank. I have around 1,000,000+ Mastery Points on Aphelios and I've been playing exclusively Aphelios since Preseason 11. This is my first attempt at creating a written Aphelios guide so I hope you guys enjoy it. I also stream on Twitch and have a educational Youtube Channel as well if you ever want to stop by.

Overview of Aphelios' Guns
Before we go any further with Aphelios' kit it's important that you understand the basic's of how his kit works. Aphelios' passive The Hitman and the Seer makes it so Aphelios has 5 different weapons at his disposal that start in the same order every game: Calibrum, the Sniper Rifle, Severum, the Scythe Pistol, Gravitum, the Gravity Cannon, Infernum, the Flamethrower and Crescendum, the Chakram. Each gun has 50 ammo and their own unique auto attack, ability and ultimate. Once the guns use up all their ammo they are put in a rotational queue and come back once all the other guns are used. Aphelios will always have two-guns at his disposal that he can swap between with Phase and his main-hand abilities will always apply a stack of the off-hand gun. Now let's look at each gun and what they bring to the table.

Calibrum - the Sniper Rifle
Calibrum gives Aphelios 100 bonus attack range on his auto attacks.
Severum - the Scythe Pistol
Severum gives Aphelios % healing on his basic attacks that scales with levels. His auto attacks can also overheal him that gives him a shield that scales with levels
Gravitum - the Gravity Cannon
Gravitum gives Aphelios a slow on his auto attacks and marks enemies with binding which can then be detonated by his Q for a free snare.
Infernum - the Flamethrower
Infernum gives Aphelios AOE auto attacks that deal increased damage to the first target hit. Targets hit after the primary target receive reduced damage until level 9 where all targets are hit for the same amount.
Crescendum - the Chakram
Crescendum gives Aphelios chakrams that attack faster the closer he is to his target. Aphelios can gain additional chakrams to auto with by using his off-hand abilities and Crescendum ultimate.
Overview of Aphelios' Abilities
Moonshot
Aphelios fires a long-range projectile that allows him to do an empowered auto-attack with his off-hand weapon if landed.
Onslaught
Aphelios gains movement speed and performs a barrage of attacks with both his guns applying stacks of his off-hand weapon.
Binding Eclipse
Aphelios detonates stacks of Gravitum and roots targets for 1 second. Gravitum is the only gun thats ability doesn't apply its off-hand weapon.
Duskwave
Aphelios releases a wave of damage and then follows up with an auto-attack from his off-hand weapon to all targets hit.
Sentry
Aphelios puts down a tower that acts as a clone copy of his off-hand weapon attacking the nearest target while prioritizing champions.
Moonlight Vigil
An AOE Circle of damage that stops on the first champion hit and acts differently depending on the gun it's used with.
Calibrum Ult: Marks targets hit and allows Aphelios to choose a target to do an empowered auto-attack with his off-hand weapon on.
Severum Ult: If at least one enemy is hit Aphelios heals for 250/375/500 based on levels.
Gravitum Ult: Gravitum slow is increased to 99% and marks all targets hit with binding.
Infernum Ult: Targets hit will explode with an Infernum splash that deals damage to champions in overlapping areas
Crescendum Ult: Aphelios will get 4 chakrams for one target hit and one additional chakram per target hit.

Runes & Summoner Spells
This section will include everything you need to know about the Runes and Summoner Spells to take on Aphelios. I've tested tons of different combinations in the past few months and these are the results I've come up with. I recommend you guys also experiment with your builds and runes and use my guide as a baseline to get started.

The Keystones

Press the Attack, Lethal Tempo and Conqueror of the Precision Tree Keystones are viable on Aphelios and they each have situations where you'll find them to be very useful.

PRESS THE ATTACK
Press the Attack
Press the Attack is the most consistent Keystone for Aphelios. It gives him a good mix of early game trading combined with scaling into later portions of the game. While it has less pop-off potential in the early game compared to Conqueror and Less teamfight scaling than Lethal Tempo if you're unsure of what Keystone to take you can almost never go wrong with Press the Attack.

LETHAL TEMPO
Lethal Tempo
Lethal Tempo is the keystone I run the least on Aphelios and that's because it's often the most inconsistent of the three. Often times you'll get caught in situations where your abilties might awkwardly proc Lethal Tempo or you're unable to get enough damage of kill someone where PTA and Conqueror would have been able to. That being said, if you plan on laning with an enchanter support and scaling as hard as possible Lethal Tempo is the Keystone to go.

CONQUEROR
Conqueror
Conqueror is my favorite Keystone of the three because it gives Aphelios the most outplay potential in the early to mid game skirmishes. By comboing your abilities properly you'll be able to stack Conqueror up in a fight and overwhelm your opponents with raw damage and healing. Unforunately, I don't recommend running Conqueror every game and instead only using it when you're laning against a Melee support and plan on skirmishing heavily in the early to mid game.

Standard Runes

This is going to be your standard rune page for Aphelios and you can take it into any game and feel confident that you're going to be getting value from what you're running. With efficient trading potential and lane and strong scaling this page gives Aphelios everything he needs to succeed.

Press the Attack - As mentioned earlier Press the Attack is the most consistent Keystone that we can go on Aphelios. We'll use this as our basis for having strong trades in the early game and smoothing out the curve into the mid-late game teamfighting
Presence of Mind - POM is a great rune for Aphelios because it rewards him for properly using his mana for trading and comboing with his guns. This rune is always nice to have because it allows us to swap through multiple guns while trading without worrying about running out of mana.
Legend: Bloodline - Bloodline is an awesome rune for Aphelios because it helps him scale into the mid-game and gives him more room for making plays. As an ADC that desperately wants to get to three items as soon as possible we can't always spend money on lifesteal. Instead, we take Bloodline to give us free lifesteal and way to scale efficiently into the game
Coup de Grace - Sticking to the trend of consistency, Coup de Grace is an awesome rune on Aphelios that helps him finish of kills in close fights. This rune is good throughout all stages of the game and will find more moments to be influential compared to Cut Down and Last Stand
Nimbus Cloak - Outplay and Survivability, Nimbus Cloak gives us the best of both worlds by giving us flexibility in both directions. You'll feel the benefit of taking Nimbus Cloak when you go for plays and you need to get in range for one more auto attack to finish off a kill or flashing forward to set up a gravitum snare. Movement speed after using summs is broken on Aphelios
Gathering Storm - This rune is a really nice option for Aphelios because it just makes our scaling even more dangerous. We can feel confident going into the mid to late game knowing no one else will be outscaling us with Aphelios' kit paired with Gathering Storm
diamond
Attack Speed, Attack Damage and Armor will always be our standard on Aphelios. The only variation you'll need to make is when you're up against an AP Botlaner in which case you'll want to swap the Armor for Magic Resist.

Summoner Spells

Flash: Flash is a must have on Aphelios, Aphelios becomes a completely different champion when he has Flash available. More than half of your outplay potential comes from being able to combo your abilities with Flash or avoiding crowd control to get damage off. ALWAYS RUN THIS SUMMONER

Heal: Heal is a really nice option for Aphelios because as mentioned earlier, movement speed during combat is really nice to have on him. In addition, being able to heal your support in the 2v2 is something that is considered the norm now and not having Heal can put you at a disadvantage.
OR

Cleanse: Cleanse is a situational summoner that is really strong against crowd control that isn't a knock-up or supression. However, don't forget to remind your support that you're running cleanse so they know your 2v2 in lane is going to be a little weaker. I recommend taking Cleanse when you're laning against champions such as Ashe, Varus or Leona who have very consistent crowd control.
OR

Exhaust: Exhaust is the best summoner spell for 1v1s, you should run Exhaust against champions that have extremely straightforward burst patterns. I personally enjoy running exhaust against champions such as Tristana, Syndra, Vayne or Zed and exhausting them during 1v1s to survive their burst and then win the fight.
Itemization
Luckily for us, Aphelios Itemization is extremely straightforward once you decide the Mythic you're going to go. Your build path will always be a Crit Mythic Item followed by Berserker's Greaves, Runaan's Hurricane and then Infinity Edge. The only time the builds we begin to differentiate is when we get to our 5th and 6th item choices.

Easy Flowchart:
  1. Immortal Shieldbow OR Kraken Slayer OR Galeforce
  2. Berserker's Greaves
  3. Runaan's Hurricane
  4. Infinity Edge

In the rest of this chapter, we're going to take a look at when we want to be building certain items.

Mythics

Kraken Slayer
Kraken Slayer is a great option for dealing with enemy teamcomps that have a tanky frontline. You should be building this Mythic when your team expects you to be the primary damage dealer and they have ways of supporting you to do that. This item also synergizes well with a lot of our abilities due to the nature that auto-attacks often follow up after abilities

Immortal Shieldbow
Immortal Shieldbow is a great option against teamcomps that have a lot of burst damage that's unavoidable. If you're planning on dueling people and getting into the midst of teamfights, Immortal Shieldbow is the best mythic to go. While it technically has the "least" amount of damage of all Mythics, due to the healing and shielding you get from it, it has the most potential for outplay.

Galeforce
Galeforce is a really nice Mythic for Aphelios because it compliments him in a lot of ways. Thanks to the dash it provides it allows Aphelios to position more aggressively knowing that he has the dash for survivability. I recommend going Galeforce against team compositions that are primarily ranged or have really important skillshots that can be avoided e.g. Bard Ultimate , Ashe Ultimate etc.

Boots

Berserker's Greaves
You can almost never go wrong with Greaves on Aphelios, the boots give him everything he wants right away. Getting these Boots on Aphelios allows him to set-up combos easier as well as pressure for all-ins knowing he can always run his opponents down. These boots can also be a good item to rush when you're running Conqueror because it'll let you get stacks faster.

Plated Steelcaps
These boots are great when you're against Full AD teamcomps that are focused on Lethality. However, keep in mind that you're going to be dealing slightly less damage for the trade-off of survivabiliy.

Mercury's Treads
The counterpart to Plated Steelcaps, I recommend going these boots when you're going against teams that deal primarily Magic Damage. These boots are the best option when you're against a double AP botlane because it makes it impossible for them to one-shot you.

Legendaries

Runaan's Hurricane
Runaan's Hurricane will always be our second completed item because it synergizes extremely well with Aphelios' kit. The interactions you get for each of your guns makes the champion come online and a lot more threatening to enemy teams. The strongest interaction with this gun is with Gravitum, you're able to get an AOE slow and root by simply autoing your opponents.

Infinity Edge
Infinity Edge is a MUST buy as Aphelios' third item because this champion scales best with critical strike chance. The moment Aphelios gets his Infinity Edge and 60%+ crit the game is over.

Mercurial Scimitar
Against teams that have Magic Damage and Crowd Control, Merc Scrim is a nice option for survivability. While the damage increase you get with this item pales in comparison to its counterparts. The fact that you'll be able to survive longer without getting Crowd Control is sometimes the better choice.

Phantom Dancer
Phantom Dancer is a really nice item for Aphelios because it gives him a nice increase in DPS while also providing him with more movement speed. I recommend going Phantom Dancer when you're looking to get as much damage and outplay potential as possible.

Mortal Reminder
This item is a must against teams that have any champions or items that are focused around healing. With how prevalent healing is in League of Legends you can't really go wrong with this item.

Lord Dominik's Regards
LDR is a must buy against teams that are extremely tanky and armor centered. If you're fighting against a team with two primary tanks, I recommend building this item fourth to make sure your damage never falls off in the late-game.

Bloodthirster
BT can be really strong situationally. The best time to go Bloodthirster is against team compositions that have high amounts of damage and low amounts of crowd control. The lifesteal and the shield will allow you to survive through fights without worrying about getting chunked and being unable to play.
Gun Order and Combos
Part of what makes Aphelios so hard to play is having the right guns for the right situation. We all know that feeling of getting stuck on the wrong gun combination and losing a teamfight that should have been winnable. The solution that Aphelios mains have come up with is to keep their guns in either of these orders.

Gun Orders

Gun Order Red White
Gun Order Green White
The purpose of keeping our guns in this order is to guarantee ourselves strong pairings no matter what combination we're on.

Pairings

How to set-up our gun order

Aphelios guns start in the same order every game, Calibrum, the Sniper Rifle, Severum, the Scythe Pistol, Gravitum, the Gravity Cannon, Infernum, the Flamethrower and Crescendum, the Chakram. We are able to unlock our gun orders by changing the order in which we use up our ammo. To do this we do the following:
  1. First, we decide whether we use up Calibrum, the Sniper Rifle or Severum, the Scythe Pistol first to decide whether we're going Red/White or Green/White
  2. We then go through or guns while keeping them in order until we get to Crescendum, the Chakram and Severum, the Scythe Pistol or Crescendum, the Chakram and Calibrum, the Sniper Rifle depending on which gun you used up first
  3. Then, instead of using up Crescendum, the Chakram we make sure we use up either Severum, the Scythe Pistol or Calibrum, the Sniper Rifle to make sure that we're able to put white, between red and green. After this we should be in the correct order for either pairing

Note: If you ever accidentally get off the order you want to keep just remember to put Crescendum, the Chakram between Severum, the Scythe Pistol and Calibrum, the Sniper Rifle (or vice versa) and you'll always have decent gun combinations.

Examples of how each combo can be used together

Severum, the Scythe Pistol and Crescendum, the Chakram Close-range dueling

Calibrum, the Sniper Rifle and Crescendum, the Chakram Long-range DPS

Infernum, the Flamethrower and Severum, the Scythe Pistol Instant Healing on Wave

Infernum, the Flamethrower and Gravitum, the Gravity Cannon Quick Trades and Set up

Calibrum, the Sniper Rifle and Gravitum, the Gravity Cannon Long-range CC
