Early game, you just want to lightly farm while trying to harass them by using your Q + E combo. Keep doing this to zone them out and deny their farm (especially if they're melee). Just keep doing until you hit level 6. If ganked, use your Q to either escape or silence the ganker.

This is when the fun begins. If you have a villain, go gank that lane (unless it's your lane). This will usually be an easy kill, thanks to the Villain passive. After the gank, you should be at or near an Infinity Edge.

After you get an Infinity Edge, you can usually start roaming and just picking up easy kills. Not really much else; it's basically FREELO.

Don't try to engage. If you're used to Garen being a tank, erase that from your mind. You will be VERY squishy, so let your tank(s) initiate the fight and then you can start Q'ing in from the back and E'ing the enemy team if they are tightly grouped. Q back and forth, gradually poking them to death, similar to an ADC, if you want to think of it that way.
