Introduction

Hi everyone!
In this Guide I want to show you, how I play Viktor.
At this moment Viktor is the newest Champion in League Of Legends.
In basement, Viktor is a mage, but he is also a very innovative Champion, who can fit in different playstyles.

I do not guarantee, that you will win every match, because you play with the Items, etc. of this Guide.
It is only my way to play Viktor, if you don't like it, feel free to play different and check out the other guides for him!

Please excuse me if my English is not the best. I'm from Germany.
I hope it will help you, and please give me feedback as this is my first guide!

Pros / Cons of Viktor

Like every champion, Viktor has some positive and negative aspects.
In this section I list his strengths and his weaknesses:

Strenghts:

+ Cool, innovative Champion
+ Gets AP very easy
+ Good CC (Stun, Slow, Silence)
+ Deals High Damage
+ High Burst in Late Game
+ Good farming, because of Death Ray and low Mana Cost on Power Transfer

Weaknesses:

- Short Range, especially on Gravity Field
- Becomes focused easily
- Gravity Field hard to land
- Ganking in early game is very dangerous if you have problems with Gravity Field
- Naturally squishy, like the most mages.

Abilities

Passive - Evolving Technology: Viktor starts with a Hex Core that provides him with stats and can be upgraded in the store to augment one of his abilities. The Hex Core can only be upgraded once, and cannot be sold back to the store.

This ability has it's positve and negative sides:
+ Ability Power for free
+ Upgrades very nice

- You have one item slot less
- You need gold for upgrading (1000g)

Q - Power Transfer: Viktor blasts an enemy unit dealing magic damage, returning a portion of the damage dealt as a shield.

Power Transfer is a nice nuke, which increases your stamina. This ability saved my life more then once. Always remember that the shield is not instant, as the projectile moves back to Viktor. It's also good for last hitting, as it has very low mana cost. Unfortunately the range is not the greatest. Sometimes it can be very difficult to hit enemy champions.

Viktor gets no shield until the projectile reaches him.

W - Gravity Field: Viktor conjures a heavy gravitational field that slows any target in its radius. If enemies stay too long within the radius of the device, it gets stunned.

Very strong, but also very hard to master. The field has the lowest range of all abilities from Viktor. So you can not just place it in front of an enemy champion you are chasing.
Also, the field has a build-up animation. The slowing effect first appears after that animation. But the field is very useful, especially in teamfights and small passes in junlge.

During the build-up animation, the field does not slow and stun enemies.

E - Death Ray: Viktor uses his robotic arm to fire a chaos beam that cuts across the field in a line, dealing damage to any opponents struck in its path.

Great ability! It deals high damage and has many different applicabilities: You can last-hit multiple minions, poke at enemy champions and check brushes, as the ray grants vision.

Max range of Death Ray. See how the laser grants vision.

R - Chaos Storm: Viktor conjures a singularity on the field which deals magic damage and briefly silences enemies. The singularity then does magic damage to all nearby enemies every second. Viktor can redirect the singularity.

I think this is one of the best ultimates in the game. It's a little bit like Summon: Tibbers. The cloud appears with a strong burst and a short silence. The cloud deals damage multiple times in a second, for 7 seconds. It is very important that the cloud gets slower as more far it is to Viktor.

The initial silence can cancel channel-abilities.

Runes

Greater Seal of Defense

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration: Standard for mages. Lowers the enemies magic resistance and so it increases the amount of damage you deal to them.

Greater Seal of Defense: I take these seals to decrease the amount of physical damage you take from enemy champions. You need to be tanky, because of your short range!

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist: Same as with Seals, but for decreasing magic damage.

Greater Quintessence of Ability Power: Giving you some nice AP for early game.
With this Quintessences, my masteries, a Dorans Ring and the Hex Core I already have 40 AP at the beginning!

Other runes you can take: Greater Seal of Scaling Mana Regeneration, Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power

Why do you take Seals and Glyphs per level?
Viktor is a mid-lane champion, meaning you level up really fast.
This makes Seals and Glyphs per Level more efficient than flat.
With this runes and Abyssal Mask you have more than 100 armor and magic resist, meaning you get 50 % reduced damage from all sources.

Masteries

This is very much like standard mage-masteries.
It is aimed to give my the highest possible damage by AP ( Summoner's Wrath , Mental Force , Blast , Archmage ) and increasing my damage further ( Arcane Knowledge , Havoc , Executioner ).

Also, Blast and Archmage synergizes great with your passive!

In Utility, I advance my Flash with Summoner's Insight and my Mana with Expanded Mind and Meditation .

I take two points in Resistance , to increase my magic resistance, but feel free to take them where ever you want.

Summoner Spells

Flash: I love this spell. Great for escaping or gap-closing. There are lots of applicabilities for Flash. Also, it's the most standart Summoner Spell.

Ignite: A nice true damage DoT-Spell. With Ignite, Augment: Death and Chaos Storm Viktor deals significant DoT damage.

Other Summoner Spells you can use:

Teleport: Good map-control. Also good for quick buying an item and teleport back to lane or help team mates on other lanes.

Exhaust: Reducing the damage from target champion. Can save your life and the slow makes it easier to sucessfully land Gravity Field.

Cleanse: Can save your life by removing all CC-effects from you. Also remember it removes Exhaust and Ignite.

Skill Sequence

My priority for leveling my skills is Chaos Storm -> Death Ray -> Power Transfer -> Gravity Field.

You can also max Power Transfer before Death Ray, but because of Power Transfer's short range I feel like I hit more with Death Ray and its high range.

Max Gravity Field last, because its stun is more important than the amount of slow and it deals no damage.

Deal with Strenghts and Weaknesses

I think that a good build should try to anninilate the weaknesses and advance the strenghts, don't you agree?

The secret is: Find the balance!

A good example:
Annie is a high burst caster, but she is also very squishy.
You should not build her too tanky, so your damage is afflicted by that.
Also, if you concentrate too much on her damage, then she could die very easy, especially if she is focused in teamfights.
So you have to find the right balance between damage and stamina.

So what is with Viktor?

His biggest strenghts are: High Magic Damage and Crowd Control.
Try to advance this strenghts by increasing his damage (AP) and his CC (More CC, like with Rylai's Crystal Scepter)

His biggest weaknesses are: Short range and he is Squishy.
You can not eliminate his short range (only with Augment: Gravity, but I talk about this in the Hex Core-Section!), but you have to think about that:
If you have a short range, than you have to stand near the enemies, making it easier for them to attack you.
So you can eliminate this by build tanky to sustain more damage and also eliminate your weakness, that you are squishy.

Items

Start with a Doran's Ring for some nice Health, AP and Mana Reg.
After some laning, use Recall and buy another Doran's Ring and a Blasting Wand.
With that, you have +200 HP, +70 AP and +10 Mana Reg/5.

Feel free to sell the second Doran's Ring whenever you need gold or a slot for a better item!!!

Your next steps are to build your Blasting Wand into an Abyssal Mask and buy your Sorcerer's Shoes.

Abyssal Mask is a great item, because it is offensive and defensive: It gives you MR and AP and lowers your enemys MR. Combined with your Sorcerer's Shoes you are able to penetrate a big amount of your enemies MR.

The next step is up to you: If the game is good and you don't need more health at the moment, buy Rabadon's Deathcap.
If you need more HP and CC, buy Rylai's Crystal Scepter.
After you purchased one of this two items, buy the other one.
So if you bought Rabadon's Deathcap, buy Rylai's Crystal Scepter and vice versa.

At last item, buy Void Staff for increasing your damage you deal to enemy champions.

There are more items, you can buy, like Lich Bane, Will of the Ancients, Deathfire Grasp or Rod of Ages (buy RoA early!!!!!)

I tell you, when to purchase your Hex Core-Augment in the Hex Core-Section!

Laning and Teamfights

If you are going Mid-Lane try to last hit minions with your basic attacks and Power Transfer.
You can use Death Ray for lasthitting minions and poke the enemy champion.

If you get ganked by a meele champion like Shaco place Gravity Field around you, so he has to enter the field for attacking you.
For Ranged champions like Fiddlesticks you have to place Gravity Field where you expect him to go through.

If this does not work remember that you have Flash!!!

If you feel save for a kill, try to sucessfully land Gravity Field and use everything you have ( Ignite, Power Transfer, Death Ray, Chaos Storm)!

Always remember, that your spell combo does a suprisingly strong burst!

In Teamfights, it's your job to kill the squishy targets and carries!
A well-placed Gravity Field in a team fight can grant your team a big advantage!

One more important thing: Remember, that your Chaos Storm has a short innitial silence, meaning you can cancel channel-abilities like Death Lotus from Katarina!

Evolving Technology - The Hex Core

Viktor's passive ability is Evolving Technology, giving him a bonus item, that only he can have.
This item, the Hex Core (Sorry! Not in MOBAFire Database), grants 3 AP per Level.
On Level 18 it grants 54 AP, making it like a better Blasting Wand.

The special thing is, that you can upgrade the Hex Core in the in-game shop.

There are 3 different Augments:

Augment: Power:
- 3 AP per level
- 265 HP
- 9 HP per Level
-> Power Transfer increases Viktor's Movement Speed by 30% for 3 seconds.

Augment: Gravity:
- 3 AP per Level
- 200 Mana
- 10 % Cooldown Reduction
- 5 Mana Reg/5
-> Gravity Field has an additional 30% cast range.

Augment: Death:
- 3 AP per Level
- 45 AP
-> Death Ray sets fire to enemies, dealing 30% additional magic damage over 4 seconds.

The Upgrade to one of this 3 Augments costs 1000 gold (BUG! It only costs 1000g but you need 1200g to buy it!)
Choose wisely, cause you can not sell the Augment!

Each of the 3 Augments is good. You should buy the Augment, that fits in your playstyle.

Augment: Power grants nice HP and the movementspeed buff is great for escaping or chasing! It is even better when combined with Rylai's Crystal Scepter, because Power Transfer will make you faster and the enemy champion slower!

Augment: Gravity grants the most stats and helps against mana-problems. The additional cast range makes it easier to land Gravity Field and annihilates one of Viktors biggest weaknesses!

Augment: Death gives high AP and makes Death Ray even more deadly. With this Augment, Ignite and Chaos Storm Viktor has high DoT damage!

It is your choice, what Augment you buy. All of them are good, but in different ways.

When should I buy the Augment?
In my opinion it depends on the Augment.

Augment: Power gives nice health making it good at any time. I would buy it before or after Rylai's Crystal Scepter to combine it with the slow.

Augment: Gravity gives Mana and Manareg/5, which can help against manaproblems early game. I would buy this Augment after Rylai's Crystal Scepter to combine it with the slow, which makes Gravity Field easier to land: First use Power Transfer to slow the enemy champion and immediately after that use Gravity Field.

Augment: Death gives AP and increases the damage of Death Ray.
I think you can buy this Augment any time, because it is combined with AP and every item of your build grants AP.
