Champion Build Guide
- Extremely fun to play.
- One of the best Split-Pusher of the league.
- Tank with high damage, especially thanks to Eulogy of the Isles.
- High sustain thanks to Last Rites.
- No real counter in lane.
- You have slaves fighting for you, and this is very oppressive for your enemys in laning-phase.
- He has a shovel as a weapon and the sound when you hit enemies is very funny.
- Weak against CCs
- Very easy to kite if you dont use well Dark Procession and Mourning Mist.
- Fall behind slightly in late-game, like almost all tanks.
- Hard to coming back if you are too behind.
- The only beautiful skin is Archlight Yorick ... Seriously, he's a very naughty undertaker, so ... why?
Ok, let's look at the abilities one by one and how to be a great undertaker.
The Cursed Horde: Yorick and the Maiden of the Mist can each have up to four Mist Walkers at once, each with 100-185 (based on level) (+ 15% maximum health) health and 2-100 (based on level) (+ 0.3 per attack damage) attack damage. Mist Walkers will traverse a given lane once they enter one.
Final Service: Every 12 / 8 / 4 non-champion enemy units and/or every enemy champion that dies near Yorick will raise a Grave.
When you kill enemy units with Last Rites and every enemy champion that dies near you, leave a grave, when we have 3 or 4 of this, we can summon our "slaves" (i love to call them slaves). The Mist Walkers take HPs and AD based on our statistics.
Active: Yorick's next basic attack within 6 seconds deals 30 / 55 / 80 / 105 / 130 (+ 0.4 per attack damage) bonus physical damage and heals him for 12 - 82 (based on level) (doubled to 24 - 164 (based on level) if he is below 50% maximum health) as well as spawning a Grave if Last Rites kills the target.
If there are at least 3 Graves nearby, Yorick can cast Awakening within Last Rites' cooldown.
Last Rites resets Yorick's autoattack timer.
Active - Awakening: Yorick raises a Mist Walker from each nearby Grave.
This is the main ability to deal damage, farm and summon Mist Walkers. In addition to empowering and resetting our next AA, it heals us based of our HP's, which allows us to stay in lane longer and, with the help of Grasp of the Undying, win trades against many champions.
Active: Yorick summons a circular wall of spirits around the target area after a brief delay, forming impassible terrain for the next 4 seconds. Allies can walk through the barrier without impediment.
Dark Procession can be targeted by enemy basic attacks and takes 1 damage per attack, dissolving after taking 2 / 2 / 3 / 3 / 4 damage.
If you use well this ability, you can force an enemy flash, cut out an escape or help you during a gank from the enemy jungler. During the trades, hitting with Dark Procession + Mourning Mist, can give to Yorick, Mist Walkers and Maiden, more time to deal a tons of damage.
Active: Yorick hurls a globule of Black Mist that splashes across an off-centered area, dealing 15% of target's current health in magic damage to all enemies hit, down to a minimum of 70 / 105 / 140 / 175 / 210 (+70% of ability power) damage.
All enemies hit by the globule are slowed by 30% for 2 seconds and champions and monsters are marked for 4 seconds.
Yorick, his Mist Walkers, and the Maiden of the Mist gain 20% bonus movement speed when moving towards marked targets, and Mist Walkers that were near an affected champion gain the ability to leap to them on their next attack.
This ability allows you to be very oppressive during the laning-phase, allowing the Mist Walkers and the Maiden, to poke your enemy by jumping on him. The bonus movement speed can help you chasing or during a gank by the allied jungler. In Mid/Late game, Mourning Mist, allows you to hit priority targets, dealing damage and slowing them in middle of fight.
Now let's talk about the primary runes. Resolve for me is the best choice for Yorick.
Grasp of the UndyingIn my opinion is a must for Yorick. Every 4 seconds deal damage based on your life, heal yourself and earn permanent HPs, all things that Yorick needs.
All of this allows Yorick to win Lane trades and out-sustain you enemy during the early game.
In late game deal 4% of your maximum life with an AA, increase the initial damage that Yorick already deal. (Yorick with 3000 HP's deal about 120 bonus damage, and heals about 60HPs every 4 seconds).
So why not?
Yorick has no way to immobilize his enemies then .... Useless
Useless, at least until Yorick plays in a solo-lane. Leave it to support.
Demolish helps Yorick to take objectives and in splitpushing. Deals 30% of maximun life on tower can guarantee the first tower, or take bonus gold from the tower's plating.
Not worth, leave this for the bottom-lane.
Useless on Yorick, he dont have any shield.
Defenses increased after 10 minutes, not bad but I don't like it, i prefer Second Wind or Bone Plating.
Is a must against a poking-lane, Second Wind + Doran's Shield, heals you a lot every time you get damaged by enemies.
Giving you the chance to stay in Lane longer and eventually win trade against your enemy.
One of the best runes of Resolve. Mitigate damage during the laning-phase, it gives you advantage over your opponent in early trades.
Free Hp? Why not? Seriously ... do you need an explanation?
Leave this to support, ok?
It might be useful, but I prefer the Overgrowth HP bonus. I choose this only when in the opposing team there are many champions who can kite us or with too many CCs.
Now let's see the secondary runes.
Sorcery for me the best choice in most cases.
Mini Hexdrinker at a 60s cooldown is a great choice against a strong APC (Viktor, Karthus as for the 8.24 Patch).
CDR Bonus and the exceeding give you more AD, great! Remember, more CDR, more graves.
Usually i dont use this rune, too much slow in many cases, but with Yorick, try to predict if a game will last longer, it can be useful to mitigate the falling-down of Yorick (like all tanks).
Inspiration it's great in some cases, mainly when you need to buy items as fast as possible.
Being able to buy items earlier than normal can make the difference between winning or losing Lane, especially in hards match-ups.
Save 300 gold? Yes thanks. Receiving the Slightly Magical Boots at 10 minutes (or less if you get kill / assist), allows you to concentrate on buying other useful items for laning-phase.
Domination, i take this in easy match-ups where i can snowball, this runes can help to deals more damage expecially in laning-phase.
When you hit an enemy with Mourning Mist, your Mist Walkers can deal a tons of damage thanks to this rune. Take this in a match-up against a tank, true damage can help you to win trades and, eventually, grant a solo-kill during the laning-phase.
Now let's look at the core items of my favourite build. Obviusly this list can changed based on the situation, expecially the "first-back", when you're behind or it's a difficult lane, the first item will be difensive like Spectre's Cowl or Bramble Vest.
This is one of the best 1st back in almost all situations. HP's, AD, and movement speed bonus, excellent stats in all bruisers. Phage can become Black Cleaver or Trinity Force, depending on the build you want.
The best 1st back if you are against a heavy AP like Teemo, Swain, Viktor etc etc..., later can become Spirit Visage or Adaptive Helm.
The best 1st back if you are against a heavy AD with sustain like Tryndamere or Aatrox, inflict Grievous Wounds reduces all healing received by 40%.
Rush this item against a champions that relies heavily on AAs like Vayne, Quinn etc etc ... It will allow you to resist the poke and stay longer in the lane.
Rush this item against a champions with heavy CCs and magical damage.
One of the core of my offensive build, This amazing item give all Yorick needs, mana, HPs, attack speed, CDR etc... And the passive of sheen grant tons of damage wit our Last Rites. The bonus movement speed can help us to chase or escape. I build this everytime i can.
A worthy substitute for Trinity Force when it's needed to be more defensive. Mana, CDR, armor and AoE slow + bonus damage make this item a must for tank Yorick.
450 HPs, a great shield and tenacity when we take burst damage, bonus damage based on our HP's... What are you waiting for? Buy it!
Too many tanks in the enemy team? We have here the solution for you! Take Black Cleaver for your Mist Walkers, you will see enemys armor crumble under their blows.
Order it now, it will be yours at just 3000g!
The package includes movement speed bonus every time you inflict physical damage.
One of my favourite defensive item, armor HPs and one very useful passive. On Yorick this plate is essential.
Healing increased? Ok give me this item! On Yorick, in addition to CDR, MR and HPs, empowers a lot Last Rites healing. So ... Core item!
800 HPs, CDR, 200% Health regen and a passive that allows you to get back full-HP's in a few seconds... Anything else?
During the laning-phase Yorick can be very oppressive, the Mist Walkers, against many champions, can zone from the farm and inflict a lot of damage. Farm with auto and Last Rites when 3/4 graves are ready, summon your slaves and let them fight for you while you farm an gain pressure.
Try to use Dark Procession only to secure a kill because is the only way to escape from eventually enemy gank in early game.
Against hard match-ups, you can farm easly under tower thanks to Last Rites, wait for the ally jungler and punish your enemy with Dark Procession + Mourning Mist after you have summoned the slaves.
Thanks to the Yorick push potential, if you are ahead, can take easly the 1st tower or at least 1 or 2 tower plating everytime you opponent is dead or forced to return to base.
When you have gained lane pressure you can roam, or take enemy jungle, with Mist Walkers can take Red Brambleback in a few second.
During team fights, Yorick can be a great engager thanks to Mourning Mist + Eulogy of the Isles.
Dark Procession can zone enemies from fights for those few seconds that are enough to take advantage.
With the sustain and tankiness of Yorick we can stay in fight longer, expecially with the more tanky build and deal tons of damage to priority target thanks to Mourning Mist + Eulogy of the Isles + Last Rites.
If your team is ahead, during the mid/late game you can just split-push in a sidelane, Yorick can push two lane at the same time thanks to Eulogy of the Isles.
Yorick is a great duelist, can win 1v1 vs almost everyone but only with his slaves, without the Mist Walkers and / or Maiden, he loses most of his power.
