New Soraka is amazing when built AP. Destroyed a Swain in lane just recently. Starfall is basically unavoidable damage and the silence is a mage hard-counter. With Flash and Ignite, you're more annoying than Vladimir while pumping out more damage and still having that global heal.
I haven't seen any support Sorakas but let me testify that AP works.

Nameless, I still wouldn't say your guide is the absolute best way to build her. I would go R>Q>W>E with a pre-6 skill order of QEQWQ, or EQWQQ if you need the silence for a level 1 fight (or WQEQQ if you need the heal)
In terms of items, that game I started Doran's (because she doesn't need the health pots from boots although the mobility should help), into a second Doran's, boots, then CDR boots, Spirit Visage, Blasting Wand, Rylai's (I would have built Rylai's but they surrendered). Deathcap before Rylai's is probably stronger but I would rush Spirit Visage instead of straight AP so she can anti-caster better.

lol
I didn't expect anyone to like my guide any more than they used to XD
I have my preferences and you have yours...I'm shocked you even considered looking at my guide in the first place XD

I still rarely have mana issues even after the change to Infuse. Yeah you can feel the nerf to her heal, it's pretty noticeable, but I've carried with her before, and now I'm carrying even better.
Everything about her is better. The nerf to her heals, which I first took as a huge nerf to her viability, is overshadowed by the buff to her damage and utility.
Forget the heal, just go DPS Soraka and carry everything.
What you guys have to say about Sona? I'm afraid of testing her.

Midraka is too good now. Spam Q all day for instawin. Plus that super long silence is just too useful.
No kidding. I was up against a Midraka as Annie. I had to switch lanes. Granted, I killed her first thing in team fights (and did quite handily on that front), but 1v1 was impossible.
AP Sona is still, and always will be inferior to a support-build Sona. She's squishy as hell and now that her heal-ratio is even more ground into the dirt, you won't be saving yourself with it anytime soon. Aura-support with maxed CDR is more effective and efficient than a straight AP build. You'll get more heals out, meaning more AR/MR buffs and more charges to
Power Chord which means more slows from
Song of Celerity, more damage mitigation with
Aria of Perseverance, and burst from
Hymn of Valor. Maxed CDR also means more mass stuns from
Crescendo. Building aura-support also allows you more flexibility in your choice of itemization considering just how many aura items there are. With an
Aegis of the Legion in your core item set you'll have a well rounded defensive stat boost to everyone on your team especially once you factor in
Aria of Perseverance and the rework to it.
AP Sona is **** in comparison to the sheer amount of utility and survivability you could get building otherwise.

Then she just sits in the middle of a teamfight spamming Q for 400 damage.
Soraka carry for the win.
