Use flat MR glyphs instead of AP/level, especially on Ryze. AP just isn't good enough on you. Rush catalyst for HP and sustain in lane. Dodge lightning bolts and farm. Stay kinda' off to the side of the minion waves, so it's harder for him to harass you and push with the same spell. After (or before, if necessary) you get tear and maybe upgrade your boots, upgrade the catalyst into Banshee's Veil. Xerath will still be able to be really annoying, but after Banshee's he shouldn't be able to burst you very effectively.

Anyone with huge range beats Ryze because he doesn't have the mobility or range to fight back. ie Lux.
To win, beg your jungler for ganks.

I'm glad it looks like it wasn't my fault for losing lane. My jungler was giving me a hard time about it

AFter Xerath got to level 6, he legit just kept on 100-0 ing me with his stupid range + mpen spell. He got one kill around 10:00 into the game, and snowballed out of control after that, managing to gank lanes (even after i call mia).
It got to the point where Xerath would full health me, and i wouldn't even see where he was.
Any advice?
Imporant things to note: I have MS quints, MPen reds, mana regen/lv seals and flat AP glyphs
I had a jungle jax that never ganked
Xerath had a Jungle maokai that never ganked.
