well, I had the basic core right...but wasn't sure if should get DFG for CDR or some other item.

What about Frozen Heart for CDR and defensive aura?

unless his turrets can apply the passives on those like Zyra plants, I see no reason to get them?

They could before, pretty sure. Don't see why they can't. they are classified as spell damage stemming from dinger, technically.
