And i have a question to ask, Did you try the Experimetal Hexplate on Jax for the S14?
I haven't faced Tahm Kench yet personally, so I can't say yet anything really other than I'd still probably go Trinity Force into Titanic Hydra since early on you can still kill him and afterwards just waveclear with Hydra.
I'm not sure about any of the shred items yet for Jax. In some rare cases maybe Terminus is viable but I won't make any statements yet on that since I haven't tested much. Also in terms of sustain Sundered Sky is a viable option.
While it's true I preferred Wit's End for a long time, my choice basically depends on what I'm laning vs and if they have multiple AP champions. If they have like 2-3 AP champions or more then I probably opt for Wit's End, unless they are really behind and the game seems like a stomp then I might just go Blade of the Ruined King anyways. Blade of the Ruined King is fine if they have less AP damage since you can itemize things like Anathema's Chains vs singular AP champ or a fed AP champ.
Zhonya's Hourglass is a situational item for Jax. If you are doing the engaging for your team and your team doesn't really have proper follow up, or if you just need to buy time in general in fights then Zhonya's Hourglass is a fine option.
The regular Jax build is still superior to going AP build. The changes to Jax basically just allow him to have a broader itemization and include some AP items in his regular build situationally like Cosmic Drive and Zhonya's Hourglass. The laning and scaling to late game with AP build is just way harder than with the normal build, and you are relying on oneshotting a lot with the AP build.
Glad you enjoy the guide! I think K'Sante is pretty rough to lane vs since he is, well a new champ and he has a lot of mobility to get out of your E or even just ignore it with his W CC immunity. You can beat him but you have to dodge his Q to not get chunked in lane but its so low cooldown its pretty hard to manage. Also when he R's you have to respect his damage a lot and you cant really jump on him near his tower since he will just insec you into his tower range then.
I still have played Lethal Tempo mostly since its just felt really good so far but Conqueror scales better since later into the game attack speed isn't going to be as valuable due to how quickly fights end and people get bursted. Conqueror is probably good in some matchups but Lethal Tempo will help you be stronger in lane which helps you get ahead and win games but I'll have to try Conqueror more this patch. I only really run Grasp of the Undying into champions like Akali, Kennen and maybe Jayce since you can't get extended trades into them making Lethal Tempo and Conqueror less valuable, but you are giving up scaling by taking Grasp of the Undying so I would limit it to these matchups only really.
Glad you liked the guide!
The new R in terms of gameplay is better since its an more involving ult in a way that you have to think more of how and when you want to use it instead of just using it before a fight to get extra resistances. Sadly the VFX are pretty bad and the animations for the 3rd auto from R are really bad too for 1350+ skins but apparently they are working on improving them so hopefully they get fixed asap. I've personally just stuck to older skins for now like Nemesis and PAX on my main.
Ravenous Hydra isn't really what Jax wants in his regular builds since the item is purely damage oriented, and you already have Blade of the Ruined King filling that spot. That item will fit into the Jak'Sho, The Protean build, where you first go Essence Reaver -> Jak'Sho, The Protean, into Ravenous Hydra, but that build requires you to snowball and be ahead since your first item really isn't all that great.
Additionally, have you Tried Hail of Blades yet? I laned with it and was quite satisfied (although not sure if it's good enough to compete with Conq), however, what about jungle? Gives good duelling power, better burst while ganking and doesn't fall off as much as PtA does. Not to mention you get Zombie Wards and such which is always helpful as a jungler.
Problem with Rod of Ages is that you'd generally want to acquire it early game since it takes 10 minutes to stack up. Sure it would help out with mana issues but in the end there are just better items to be built. If you are running out of mana constantly there are items like Frozen Heart, Abyssal Mask or even Turbo Chemtank that I'd rather have than Rod of Ages. I still usually just ignore the mana issue and reset when oom since the usual build of: Trinity Force-> Ninja Tabi/ Mercury's Treads-> Spear of Shojin-> Sterak's Gage-> Situational Items is just so good.
I personally don't like Hail of Blades. Some people like to run it while jungling but I still prefer to go either Press the Attack or Conqueror into more tankier teams while jungling. Also as far as I'm concerned only viable keystone for top lane is Conqueror so don't do Hail of Blades while laning. Hail of Blades gives you early dueling power, but falls off as the game goes on. It might be a preference thing but I just don't see Hail of Blades as a rune I'd ever run on Jax.
HOWEVER, after posting this I did try RoA like 4 times - for ***** and giggles - and it was pretty good. First backed at 1100, got Catalyst, makes farming quite safe since it gives some sustain and max hp and you’re still Jax and people aren’t that eager to trade with you. Then backed at 1600 and it’s easy to finish RoA by minute 10 or so. Since I’m tanky, have sustain, and W+R passive hits like a truck thanks to AP, the lane is free to be farmed and I have Tiamat + Boots + TriForce by minute 20 or so.
So in the end, these stats might not be exactly what Jax needs, but early sustain + 500 HP + 100 AP + 20 MR (in ulti, obviously) for 2.7k gold is... still quite a lot of stats ^^ Not to mention the passive easily heals 200-300+ HP per teamfight despite the numbers not looking that big.
And yes, Conqueror > Hail of Bladses, just wanted to get your take on it
