Sooooooo.... Will this guide get a makeover with the items rework next season? I would love that but just imagining how much work that would be makes me keep my hopes in check ^^'

Hi MrMagikarpus,

Unfortunately I must disappoint you, I don't really play that much League anymore (only the occasional rotating gamemode). Therefore, my ability to support my guide has dropped and I also lack the motivation and time to rework or update it. As a result (as you can see) I haven't updated this guide in the last 2 years (!) and it's safe to assume that I will not be updating/reworking it in the future.

It's nice to see that my guide still lingers in some people's mind though :)

Happy holidays!

Oh mama, what a guide! I am glad there are dedicated mains that teach the ways of less popular champs. But is there any room for some Aftershock shenanigans? It worked quite well for me as for now and I am curious whether you would consider it a good keystone.
1
Katasandra (102) | April 19, 2022 10:14am
Hey hey,

Sadly I must dissapoint you, I don't think Aftershock is that good.

My main reason here is because of the versatility argument: with Electrocute you can opt into both aggressive and defensive playstyles (either building full damage or more utility focused/defensive items). However Aftershock pretty much forces you into a utility playstyle. In the mid-lategame you are very reliant on your team following up on your engages, and making picks on the side is harder as you do not have the additional damage an offensive keystone would have given you.

That being said, Aftershock could be beneficial into some niche matchups (think of things like Qiyana, whose only way of dealing damage is by jumping into you). If your main intention is to just shut an assassin like that down, and to ruin their day, then I'd say it could be a decent choice.

MrMagikarpus | April 19, 2022 2:45pm
Thank you for the quick and detailed answer! I see where you are comingfrom and even though I can't tell how Electrocute feels since I have not tried it yet, but I always imagine it, even when building utility, to feel like Electrocute Annie regarding the squishyness. Can you confirm that or how could one picture the difference in resilience?

So I wanted to quickly ask you on your opinion about Future's Market Lost Chapter rush tech. I have seen quite a lot of control mages go for it in slower and less dangerous matchups in order to win the war of attrition and generate big lead. In case you aren't familiar with it, in short you start the game with Sapphire Crystal, Future's Market and Teleport. You carefully clear first five minion waves and then you recall >>> teleport/walk back to lane with Lost Chapter finished. Which in theory should allow you to deny CS from your opponent, force awkward recalls and eventually result in you being super ahead. So my question is, could it be applicable to Lissandra in certain farming matchups?

Katasandra (102) | July 16, 2021 6:04am
Hey there,

This seems quite an interesting strat... I'd have to try it before coming to a (final) conclusion. Just looking at it theorethically, it doesn't seem that good. This is mainly because Sapphire Crystal makes you extremely weak compared to Doran's Ring (both health and extra minion damage are missing). I am not even sure whether I could reliably clear the first five waves without my opponent bullying me to base. In case it actually works out, it still isn't that good. Denying CS as Lissandra is pretty much impossible, but it can help with the 'perma shove and run around the map' playstyle. Forcing the opponent into awkward recalls is possible (as long as they do not run the same strat).

Anyway, as I said, I'd actually have to play games with it. But I'm first gonna watch that LS vid you probably got it from :p
1
Tauricus2017 (133) | July 16, 2021 6:33am
Haha I got it from Midbeast, but LS reminded me to ask you about it (needless o say I have seen it in a live game as well):D
But yeah your arguments seem reasonable. Honestly I also don't really think it would be that good. After all you are denying yourself Ignite AND Biscuit Delivery and you also lose additional 50 gold as a fee. While I still think it is decent strat on certain champions, it does make sense why Lissandra would not be one of them.

Anyway thanks for your time and clarification <3

Sorry for the terribly long delay Katasandra! I was not notified that I had received a request! I can definitely understand the desire and need to update and keep a guide on top of competition and in general just the feeling of wanting to keep something you're passionate about fresh and new. So I am here to give you as best of a review as I can.

I do enjoy a guide that takes the time to make their notes a little more detailed instead of a "Haha, go read the guide for that information" so thank you for this! I do, however, dislike reading entire build paths in the notes, if that makes sense. I feel like you could very easily explain it in less detail while showing more visual detail.

EXAMPLE

This would allow you to talk about each Mythic item in general in their dedicated sections without having to // everything to try to make it less clustered. Give it a try. It's a very handy and neat thing to do. You could also add in your first back paths and in general just items you normally buy on a regular basis like control wards.

One more very important thing! This is the beginning of the guide, the cheat-sheet the "I don't have time to read a guide" section, it would be very helpful for the reader viewing the guide to know in your own words what each champions threat is & what you can do to face them more easily. You obviously don't have to go as IN-DEPTH as I do with Teemo, but just a "Oh, he's a hard champion, avoid his ___ and __ do ___" is a really good thing to have.

Is certainly not lacking. You do have a nice neat design, though it does lack visual flair that we have mostly come to know with new and recent MobaFire guides. You do keep everything relevant and informative for readers.

I will say that your Pros & Cons section really makes me angry (not at you, at the pros not being aligned with the cons), this is more of a OCD thing I have when it comes to text. If it isn't all centered and the same length in each paragraph leaving extra space left, it annoys me, however, if it looks like this review, I love it! (Filler text haha)

Issues with pros & cons

As we start to scroll down, I find it very hard to actually focus, this may just be my eyes/mind but I am constantly having to shake my head and blink trying to find SOMETHING to grip me and allow me to focus, but because everything is this icy blue theme, it's nearly impossible for me. Perhaps try leaving the banners and such the icy blue and simply use a nice greyish bold text or just plain white for each section. This may be just me. I'm weird.

Scrolling more down we see some variations of sizes for videos. Some are larger, some a tiny, some are in spoilers and some are even centered or pushed around in columns. I think it would be great to have more of a consistent usage of the same size like width=650 for videos, while centered or while in a spoiler. Presentation wise here once again, just has me squinting, hurting my eyes. It's good information just... presented to the reader in this case me, a big baby very poorly and I'm trying really hard to read. It's just so clustered together.

Issues with Abilities

Heading past the videos, and into your rune section. It starts to clean up very nicely. A beautiful design of runes and graphs, presented in a well formatted Imagery, Text and Borders presentation that is very easy on the eyes, until you open up the spoiler and get blasted by an array of colors all of a sudden. I think this section could be reimagined talking about only the runes that Liss actually uses while greying out the ones she can not or does not use. If it isn't something she can use try #808080 instead of sudden red & orange, or don't talk about it at all!

While you have a good array of information to provide to your intended reader. It more or less goes multiple places at once. It's hard to focus, things that are important seem to be displayed as a very unimportant way (Abilities reference videos, etc). I would in my opinion from a visual point, definitely try, you don't have to, but try to give some nice visual feel to your guide. Stay consistent, consistent sizes, formats, you get the idea.

I am very meticulous when it comes to things looking their best, even if I have to spend a good 12 hours trying to make it look good. So if you ever need or want some of my advice or thoughts on visuals, just let me know.

Hey, Thanks for the review!

I figured that you were busy with your own guide, so I decided to just be patient. (I see you adapted your new guide code (style) to the review! Looks neat ;) ) I have a tendency to address all points in reviews so let's get started!

The cheatsheet has been changed, although it came at the cost of being short it definitely added some more depth to the builds. Curious to hear your opinion. I'm a bit reluctant to add champion threats to the cheatsheet itself, as I got a dedicated section further down the guide.

The pros/cons has been uh, fixed. See, this is why I ask for reviews. I can't stand stuff like this either >.> As for visual flair & focus, these are kind of my weak points. I have considerable trouble figuring out how to do stuff like that (laughs in lack of photoshop skills and formatting troubles). That's why I'm so all-in on table coding :p To put it into perspective, coming up with the format takes me 5 hours while making the table takes me about 5 minutes.

The widths of the clips have been made the same (some were set at 350 and others at 400). But I'll ponder a bit on the formatting and whether to change it & how. I understand the comment on the colors in the spoilers of the runes, I'll probably convert the red ones to gray (and the orange ones to something else?) but it needs some time as I intend to adjust some of the images as well.

There is an weird detail in your review though: you mention that the abilities section (I assume part 2), is packed too densely. But a little later you mention that the Item section (still part 2?) is formatted very nicely. Thing is, I formatted those two sections in exactly the same style, so I'm a little confused. Can you pinpoint why you perceive those two sections differently? Also what do you think of the formatting of the gameplay section (part 2?)?

Also, a note about the review itself. Sometimes it's a little hard to figure out what section exactly you're talking about in the review. This is caused by the setup of my guide (as some sections occur twice, with different content). Most of the time I'm able to figure out which ones you mean, except the 'Ability Reference Videos'. Do you mean part 1 or part 2 there?

Sovereign Kitten (93) | April 27, 2021 6:39am
Thanks for the review!
You're welcome.

I figured that you were busy.
Yeah, I tend to get carried away with time when editing and thinking of new things.

I changed the cheat sheet.
It looks much more presentable! Very informative, besides a few notes being missing from the some of them for Lost Chapters & Potions like "This is a cute little book that synergizes well, with mana, damage instead blasting wand."

But I have a dedicated section for Champions!
I'm aware. But some people simply want a threat list, right here. It doesn't have to be informative. This just helps someone currently opening up a game decide if they want to play her. Instead of throwing her right into EXTREME threats unknowingly.

The Pros & Cons is fixed.
Huzzah! My OCD is cured! You don't really need too much knowledge in Photoshop, just simple thinking outside of the box for ideas for banners, you can even use Sketchio if you don't have any video editing software. You could ask for people on forum or in Discord. I am sure many people would like to assist. Especially for and with someone and helpful as you.

A Few minute example

This isn't much. Just how I normally go about things. I did however, luckily have a person step forward, who appreciated the work I put into my community / guide offer high quality Banners and Assets for free, so that's how I got mine :3

The widths of the clips have been made the same. I'll probably convert the red ones to gray (and the orange ones)
Yes! It doesn't hurt as much! A joyous day! Time is all I have. I know how much time goes into making guides and editing.

Abilities packed densely, but, but, but.
It was pretty late, so I may has misread something. But all in all. If I was to change this guide myself. I would have re-done the videos to be more pronounced. They are very important to a guide for simply offering a visual reference. Some people don't do too well with reading literacy. The problem with the LEFT video, RIGHT text, transition to LEFT text, RIGHT video, is the fact that the videos need to be really small to fit the text & video without causing the text to be 6 lines of 5-6 words. So imagine if this review had a Teemo Dab emote in every point, that would unnecessarily push each column into more length.

This is a very rough example

Here is a better example

If we put your current example & all other videos together. You can see just how neat and tidy you can truly make things. Ideally how I view guides is like Ease of Access or rather, looking at a stage performance. Enter stage left and exit stage right.

So to go from left to right, then having to jump down from left to right to watch a video last feels, wrong. Which is why I have been changing my format with the upcoming update. This would line everything up with how your sections are broken up.

PS: Cluster break ups are usually just spaces or text / imagery. This gives a ready space to breathe.

Also, a note about the review itself.
It's pretty hard to actually navigate the guide what with there being no Table of Content and in my opinion an overuse of the guides built in ToC. So I end up scrolling through a lot of things that seem to reoccur and also have to scroll through the messy ToC. This may be where we are being confused and I apologize for not listing images last night for reference.

I believe what I meant by this was just all videos showing off the skills as a reference. Which would be both.

Sorry if I missed something in this response. It's currently very early.

Hey I loved your guide, it really got me into OTPing(?) Lissandra when I started playing LOL in season 10 and I noticed it says that the guide itself has been archived, so my question is what happened? ;-;
2
Katasandra (102) | March 31, 2021 10:45am
I am currently working on a new version (basically what you see here) and it isn't finished/updated yet (basically was really busy with uni and turns out that both writing a new version and updating an old one is a pain). I'll be keeping it archived for a few more days, so I can put more content into it and then I'll publish it again.

Oh! I see, thanks for the reply, I was really hoping for such an outcome, that's my favorite Lissandra guide and one of the best I've seen, as I mentioned.
I'm waiting for the new one then! Take your time and care.

Hi, and thanks for the Lissandra guide. I wanna only say one thing: when you see some videos, like freezing lane and others, you can see they are bugged(?)
But I have to say that this guide is one of the best i've ever read on this site, and, for me, the best one for Lissandra

Great guide! I'm a lol elo(Bronze 1) and I want too much learn how use Lissandra and your guide is helping me, but I don't know what are the worst champions to she, to who I try ban
1
Katasandra (102) | December 7, 2020 8:19am
Hey hey,

When you're learning Lissandra I wouldn't bother with banning specific champions she struggles against in lane. It might be a better idea to ban strong champs your team won't pick.

However, if I were to make a list of champions I dislike playing against the most it would be: Cassiopeia, Lucian and Viktor. However, I think they are rather uncommon in the elo you're at (not to mention that the enemy won't play them that well - which means that you got more room to try to beat them!). So again, I don't think banning them is worth it.

How viable would you call her as a "I got autofilled midlane and now I need a champ who I can have enough impact with, even tho I might not be all too familiar with the midlanerole"?
(of course when you are somewhat decent at the champ)
Or would you call Lissandra a champion you really need to know, 100%, what you are doing with? (like a midlane mage who has a lot of weaknesses and is not really a save pick?)

Fruxo (347) | August 1, 2019 2:13am
Hello there Katasandra, here is the review you (I forced on you, jk) asked for. :)

Build / Cheatsheet

When it comes to runes in your cheatsheet you only explain what they are good for on Lissandra, yet as for me, I don't know which one to pick. If Electrocute is the standard one, and the one that you use most of the time, then why should I even consider going the Aftershock page then? For example idk, Electro could be good against squishy snowballing matchups and aftershock could be useful against harder matchups where you need to survive, stuff like that, to let the reader know what runes to choose. Instead of just having "aftershock is really good, electrocute is really good I prefer electro more", you get my idea.

Same goes for the summoner spells here, if Ignite is the most standard one (or the one you'll see first when you look at the guide), i'm mostly going to pick that one. Why should I pick Teleport if I can just pick Ignite instead? In what matchups can TP even be good to favor Lissandra?

As for items mostly consumables, when should I pick up health pots and when to go for refillable, ahead? behind? another reason? :o You say that the Luden rush build is good against tanky enemies, what about the protobelt build then? When should I decide to go for this build path, squishier enemies or harder/easier enemies? Why should I decide to go for protobelt rush and that build path if I could just go for the Luden's Echo one instead.

Content

Abilities

I feel like the “Tooltip information and numbers” spoilers aren’t really necessary as it just replicates what is already shown if you look at the bbcoding of for example the “Ring of Frost” spell when you talk about it. If I or a new player wanted to know what that ability does, most people are most likely going to look at the bbcoding then to even notice that the spoiler is there.

If you could come up with another “Tips/Facts” for the passive section that’d be nice as only having 3 of them is bringing me nuts as I usually like when it’s symmetrical like your other ones. :P You did a much better job with this on your Q and E sections as they are symmetrical, only with a much bigger one at the end, but I like that. If you could come up with ones for the R and W ones so that it’ll look like the Q one for example, I think that’s going to be a bit more visually nice in my opinion.

Skill Sequence

In this section on your reasoning for “level 1-3” you say that you should take Ring of Frost at level 2, but that’s it. Why? explain a bit more about why we should take just that ability at level 2 and why not just go for E instead as you did mention that it’s an option for level 2. I think new readers will seek to know this knowledge as otherwise they won’t know any sort of reason as to why I or them should level that ability otherwise.

Summoner Spells

As for here, I’m unsure if the “Defensive summoner spells” section is even necessary in the first place. You mention that there aren’t any real scenarios for taking Barrier or Heal because of Glacial Path and Frozen Tomb so I don’t really get why they should be mentioned in the first place. As for the Cleanse part you mention there, i’d suggest just taking it out and putting it underneath Teleport with it’s on description.

If it becomes to weird you can just keep the “Defensive Summoner Spells” but only have Cleanse there and just make it look like the ones above like Teleport for example as I think it’d look much better like that.

If it’s possible you can also try and put cleanse into the slots that you have at the top there if you feel like merging the Teleport and Cleanse ones since they are indeed both situationals and not offensive like Ignite. I think by doing this new players will be able to see that there is another option to pick as a situational slot 2 spell other than Teleport as now you kinda just keep Cleanse in the shadows of the last description and most people won’t even notice it’s there in the first place because you start the sentence off by talking about two other spells that aren’t even useful for Lissandra.

Runes

When it comes to Electrocute where you mention that it has power in lane against ranged like Ahri, I’ll have to strongly disagree. Yes, sure it does give you power pre-3 but after that if you try to trade against an Ahri at level 3, you’ll lose trades way more often then ones that you can win, especially if you get hit a lot by Charm. Not only this but if you decide to go for Electrocute instead of Aftershock against Ahri, you’re going to become fox meat post-6 because you’re so squishy and Ahri has a lot of burst potentials to destroy squishies across the entire game apart from the early 3 levels. As for LeBlanc I think it works like you say though as you’re able to lock her in place when she uses Distortion thanks to Ring of Frost and you’re able to poke her down and lock her post-6 etc. so that’s fine. Why I say so much about Ahri though is because together with what i’ve already mentioned, if she builds Zhonya's Hourglass on you, pretty much all your spells are useless against her now, even R which was the biggest impact you had since E can just get stopped if she throws a Charm to predict your movement.

The reason why I’d say that Aftershock is a much better option is because it reduces Ahri’s potential to one shot, and not just hers most other ranged matchups as well. This because you’re able to go in for a trade, poke and then get out without even losing to much of your health because of Aftershock. As an Ahri main, I can promise that I have a much harder time facing Aftershock Lissandra then with Electrocute.

I like your experimental options for keystones to pick but i’m kinda clueless as to why or more accurately when I should pick Arcane Comet. You explain this pretty well with Dark Harvest explaining some matchups where this is really good for, kinda the same roughly for Glacial Augment, but as for Comet, there’s no reason to pick it. Apart from you explaining that it’s really good, most new players looking to play Lissandra will be completely clueless about that keystone and even the Glacial one too I think. If you can’t find an option to pick the keystone, then i’d just recommend to remove it altogether.

When it comes to the minor runes, i’m unsure if Hextech Flashtraption and Perfect Timing is even necessary to be there. As from what I’ve seen from the descriptions of those, it feels like you’re just trying to say that “it’s good, but the other four are technically better”. That’s what I get when I read as it feels like the other four just makes these two in particular really bad options for Lissandra. Because of this, it might just be better to remove them altogether.

Items

In the first base of items you say “sometimes you don't have enough gold to get one of the items below instead.” very small nitpick but I think it should say “sometimes you don’t have enough gold so try to get one of the items below instead.” Since what you’re referring to before is that you don’t have enough gold for the items below that you mention, even though technically you don’t have enough gold for Revolver/Lost Chapter and not the ones below. :P

Again with the whole Luden’s and Proto situation, I still don’t know when to pick the item. You still say that Luden's Echo is quote on quote “the best first item for Lissandra and if that’s the case, it seems like Proto isn’t even useful to get at all.

Boots: Might want to explain a bit more in-depth about why you go Sorcerer's Shoes 90% of your games. Something very simple as “the magic pen is really good for you as it’ll make your kill potentials great/it’ll higher your DPS by a lot, for examples, other than just “You have to go this almost all the time”, explain to your readers why all the time. The other two boot options does a much better job of explaining this, good job. :P

For Zhonya's Hourglass another nitpick, might be good to say that you can also build it second/third if you’re against a matchup where you desperately need it’s item active (such as Zed), especially at times when you don’t have Frozen Tomb because for example the early where it has a really long cooldown. Same nitpick goes for Banshee's Veil too, just say that the item is good against a heavy ap matchup like LeBlanc (you do kinda explain this but I think by putting in a champion example, it’ll give new readers a bigger explanation as to why this item is good against ap champions specifically).

Unsure if Spellbinder is needed, you say that you can replace boots for it, but since you just explained before that Sorcerer's Shoes was really good and you pick it 90% of games. That means that 10% of games you either opt for more defensive boots or for Spellbinder. Sure it does give you a lot more AP and makes you a better kill threat when you’re going for a bursty kind of playstyle, but I feel like having boots are just necessary even if you’re at full build. The only champion I could say that boots are never necessary is Cassiopeia because she can’t even get them, so that makes sense in itself.

Small spelling error in your “Ultra defensive niche options etc.” It’s “this item” and not “this items” since you only mention Abyssal Mask, plural makes it weird when it’s only singular :P Also I feel like you should just remove this and put it back into “other items” as it kinda serves the same reason. The readers kinda already understand that “This is something you should build in like 1% of your games.” because it’s a situational item and the description for it explains the reason for building it. If I had to say, I think you should remove Spellbinder and exchange that spot for Abyssal Mask with its description, while removing “Ultra Defensive Niche Item” along with the rest that’s there so that it’ll only be “Other Items” and then table of contents. I think that’d look much nicer and people won’t get mislead into thinking Abyssal Mask is a worse item compared to the other items because it’s in its own category.

Gameplay

Trading & Keystones nitpick, you said “agressive” it’s supposed to be “aggressive”. :P

Generally speaking, you got a lot of spelling errors in your guide, i’d suggest using a program (or just taking your text over to a google document) and fix the grammar. It’s gonna help for sure.

Matchups

I’ve seen the first few for this matchup section and it looks really nice, it isn’t done and it’s just a WIP but so far it’s something that will go a really long way once it’s actually finished, so keep up with the work :P

One thing to put in about Ahri, keep in mind that better ahri players will save their Charm’s to make it so that you won’t notice when it’s gonna be casted, which will result in you getting caught most of the times because of that reason.

Conclusions

I can completely tell that you've put a ton of effort into this from the length of the guide to the graphics as well as the visuals that makes this guide really fun, enjoyable and quite exciting to read through. I love the consistent blue theme and it’s really what makes this guide into what it is, not only that but it makes it really unique compared to other Lissandra guides.

I'm sure that there is a few other things that you can look to improve with your guide, but where you stand as of right now, you've got a really solid guide. I'm going to let you digest my input, and maybe make some changes. If you want me to revisit your guide at some later point in time, then it'd be my pleasure. Just reply if you feel like it or post on my My Review Service! :)

Hi there! Thanks for the (extremely quick :o) review!
Although I could just say I incorporated your feedback (that would be the easy way out) I'll put comments/answers to your feedback in the spoiler below to order my thoughts a bit and because you raised some fair points that other people might wonder about. So here's it:

What I meant about the last thing. Most Ahri players could simply save Charm when you use Glacial Path, if you cast it I can then Charm you afterwards when you're already there, or if you don't use your E I can just jump onto you with Spirit Rush because you just wasted your only mobility spell.

Again for the other thing that you might say, After I ultimate onto you I can still just save my Charm because at most times you'll just instantly use Frozen Tomb on either me or yourself, so I can just save it and wait it out before casting, basically gives me a free charm at that point. It's just something to keep in mind x)
