I still don't feel like having a guide already at 90% stay at 90% when most of the content is new makes sense. The Kog'Maw change, for example, doesn't radically change how you play the champion - maybe you now have to reach 40% CDR to only have .2 seconds of downtime but apart from that, your items are more or less the same, as is playstyle. A change like the aforementioned Ryze/Gangplank remakes would alter each guide to be completely new.

But for most other changes, existing guides can be modified. For remakes, you can't justify keeping a guide at a high score just because of "reputation".

There are several bad guides that get upvoted and recommended. I do not see why a guide that becomes useless due to a patch has to become obsolete. If the owner is idle and does not update it any more then archive it, but if the owner chooses to change the build to one that is not so good then you have no right to archive it.

If those guides do get archived then you should start archiving all the bad guides as well, since they're no different.

Also, I used to have a high rated Janna guide, if I suddenly decide to completely change the build would it get archived as well? It would have stayed at the same rating even though the content would be new. Furthermore, how would you monitor this? And if you wont prevent people from completely changing their guides why would you archive those that get the champions remade?

It's about time someone got on this.

I heard from Matt or a vet that there would be a system implemented to automatically archive guides that have not been updated for more then a month.
An excellent system (although a month seems a bit too short. Maybe 6~8 weeks)

That's a completely different system than the one jebus is suggestion.
Guides that are not updated by inactive owners should be archived. Guides in which the owners decide to keep a bad build should not.

Outdated and abandoned by author: Should be able to be forcefully archived by vote from the community.
Guide that gets changed by the author because he/she thinks it's better: Should NOT get archived, as it's pretty much the same as stopping someone from practicing free speech.

Precisely. A guide that does get outdated but is not abandoned by the author should not be archived. And a guide that gets a complete remake should not be archived either.

If it's outdated with items that no longer exists shouldn't be forcefully archived, but a PM with a friendly suggestion could be sent.

I agree with this, the Kayle remake coming up (next patch from what I hear) made me rush my guide to get it out, although I plan to completely update it when it rolls around. Archiving guides with items that no longer exist should happen though. I've seen too many highly rated (and even recommended guides) that have items that are no longer in the game (most notable zhonyas ring) and it is obvious that the author had abandoned it, but yet it is still getting publicity (and probably even sheep upvotes) which is unfair to all of the other guides that are current and getting updates and edits frequently by the author

Many thanks to Canoas for my epic sig

^yes, and those guides with old items are usually unattended to, and as such, will be archived after 2 months of not being updated with this coming soonTM system already planned.

This is already happening.

THIS thread is about what to do about guides right after a rework, and I think most of us can agree AGAINST the OP, as what Canoas and Scrax just said, if it's outdated due to a sudden updated it shouldn't be archived immediately, but given some time to rework and a PM sent.

/thread nao

Thanks to TRUeLM, Plastictree, Scrax, Xiaowiriamu, foggy12, JahGFX, jhoijhoi, msrobinson, JEFFY40HANDS, Nyoike, MissMaw, and me :) for the sigs!

^^ No end thread, am commenting here to say I support archiving guides with items that no longer exist.

Guides that have not been edited in 1.5 months should be archived to. Authors can easily unarchive guides if they happen to visit MobaFire again, so I don't see why a general clean-up shouldn't occur.

A quick sweep of all guides that haven't been edited in 1.5 months and/or have non-existent items. If the authors really care they'll be logging in and editing so their guides aren't archived.

Let me provide a more detailed explanation of exactly what I want.

1. New patch notes come out
2. One champion has been changed pretty significantly.
3. We hold a poll (say, in General) where we ask people, "Do you think this champion has been changed significantly enough to merit a guide reset?"

That way there's a lot of choice in the matter. Something like a Kayle rework isn't significant enough - her cooldowns are changed, her early game is changed a bit - but it doesn't REALLY change what items you're going for, how you're going to skill her/play her late-game.

The Gangplank remake is different. Top number one guide pre-remake? Deny. It was the only way to play pirate, and it worked. With the remake he suddenly became an OP jungler and a very strong top laner, with powerful anti-CC and roles as a melee or tanky DPS. If the author of that guide (which was at around 89% or so) just changed EVERYTHING about it to reflect new pirate, does the guide deserve to stay that high? I don't think so. The author (chineseflame if I remember correctly) published a new build.

Some things are more in the dark, like Eve's nerf to her stealth and her ultimate. Is this game-changing? Do guides need to be revamped? We don't know, and that's what the poll would be for.

I'm saying that only in extreme scenarios, we'll decide. Barring everything else, it just seems unfair to have guides get a 90% head start just because the guide for an old version of the champion did well.
