That would remove the value of newer players trying out the guides and succeeding with them who then come back to upvote. Those guides are aiming at those people, the ones that need help playing the game and building champions, so lowering the impact of their voices when it comes to voting for something designed to help THEM defeat the purpose of making guides. If I was to make a guide, I wouldn't be doing it to get the approval of the better players who most likely do not need it, but to help the ones trying to improve themselves and quite frankly, the result of their experience using it would mean a lot more to me than some Platinum Elo guy just popping by, looking at it real quick and saying, yeah, good build, goodbye.

Terrible idea.
Let the "normal guides" stay the way they are but with a "featured guide" on top, chosen by people of good knowledge - bam fixed.
I should save that in a word document for future use..

Segregating by elo doesn't sound as though it will fix problems with the voting system.

Scouting/featuring is a cool concept, but some of the guides that are featured are not that good.

Just because a certain sub-optimal build worked for a low level player doesn't mean it's good for them. They would have done just as well with with a good build. There's no point in taking anything but the best.

I think it would be better if gold, platinum and diamond players have another voting system only for them.

So, you now have 2 vote systems. One for players with high raiting and one for the rest of players. Means you have 2 percentage numbers.

I don't believe there are enough verified gold/plat voters for this to make a difference. I see no issue with it other than that it seems to make gold/plat voters way more powerful than they actually would be, even if their power would increase relative to other voters.

Such a system would need to keep the number of counted votes separate from the number of voters, though. It really wouldn't do for four platinum voters to be able to kick something out of its comment-to-vote period, for instance.

Nick's idea would, probably, effectively disenfranchise non-gold/plat voters. No one would pay attention to the non-gold/plat vote when the gold/plat vote is available instead.

Nope. MobaFire is supposed to be a guide site for everyone, not a site where all the high elo people make friends and then upvote each other's guides to 90%.

I don't think plat players are as easily swayed as level 15 fanboys that don't know better. If YOU made a ****ty guide tomorrow, I would be one of the first to downvote. Who writes the guide means nothing to me, only the quality of the guide and the reasoning.

tl;dr Plat players are fanboys.

And honestly? I don't necessarily like this idea. I'm not exactly sure why, but I think that sometimes people downvote and give recommendations. when the guide author changes the guide, they don't go back adn reverse their vote. Basically an early downvote from a plat player could decimate a guide's rating, I just don't know. I'm obviously plat, and I don't know if I feel comfortable with my vote being 'worth' more than someone else's. It's certainly way more valid and informed, but I just don't know.

fixed

I think the scout/featuring system is a complete and utter ****ing failure. If you disagree, go look at all the featured/scouted guides. But, that's what you get for promoting people based on how long they've been a member vs. who deserves it. My company used to do that, and it was nicknamed '*** in seat' raises. Been here a year? you get a raise. We had a lot of ****ty ungrateful workers.

Scouting is different from voting. What the OP proposed was no matter the member's status on the site, high elo people votes ARE WORTH MORE.

I'm all for changing the scout system to only feature high elo scouts, in fact I was the one to bring up the idea in the scout and vet forums, but I will not accept the pathetic idea that people are supporting in this thread.

Every vote counts.

I don't care if you're a level 15 player or a 38388329929210010101 elo player. The Australian government doesn't care if you're a millionaire or a check-out chick. Votes are votes and EVERYONE should have the right to vote. Voting should be equal.

If suddenly all MobaFire cared about was high elo members (LOL WTF WHY, It's LOW ELO MEMBERS who actually read and use guides, remember!?), I'd leave, and gladly.

As Jebus said we had a big long discussion on this in the vet forums.

We were mainly discussing having votes be 1 for people who aren't gold, 2 votes for people who are gold, and 3 votes for people who are diamond. I liked this idea the best.

I definitely don't think it would be to biased, the number of members who are diamond (or around 2k which was another thing I suggested) aren't that many, I doubt that any of those would participate in trading votes (and even if they did it would be easily caught and taken care of) and you would still need at least two people to feature a guide (2200 + 1500 = 5 points, which is featured) which imo is enough.

I think having -3 for downvotes would indeed be pretty huge at the start, but no one is forcing you to downvote and in fact I would say it's better for you to hold onto that vote before it gets corrected, no? Even if a diamond person were to downvote it, that could still be counterable.
