INTRODUCTION
In this guide I'll be talking about how to play
.My name is Vodka and I main the
support
role. One of my mains are: Sona, Lux and Leona. I hope you have fun with this guide and it will be useful to you.
I've been playing league for over 6 years now but only recently decided to play it a bit more seriously. On that note if you ever want to play together you can always DM me and we can play a few matches.
Everyone has mixed feelings about playing Lux as a
support
but recently I can see more and more people playing her like that. I personally prefer her mid but since I'm a
support
main I decided to make this guide on her. I rarely play her in the support role unless I'm playing Draft/Normal games but it's up for you to decide. GLHF!
But why Lux? She provides some amazing things: a strong shield, slows and is generally fun to play.
-
In this guide I'll be talking about Lux's PROS & CONS, Abilities, Spells, Runes, Core items, Laning phases and Tips & Tricks. If you enjoy please leave a rating and a comment <3. Thank you and good luck!
-
NOTES:
WHY LUX?
WHY LUX? Lux is one of the most flexible supports you can ask for. You can go full enchanter (W>E>Q max, Athene's > Ardent > Redemption), you can go hybrid (2-3 points E into W>E>Q max, Athene's > Luden's/Morello > Situational), you can go full damage (E>Q>W max Luden's > Deathcap). The trick is going for what makes sense in that particular game. She has a great shield and can provide good damage or build helpful items. Even if playing her sometimes gets you hate you can still carry your team into victory. |
It's not my video but it is very educational and I suggest watching it if you want to get into playing Lux or you're just bored and want to watch something.

SPELLS
RUNES INSPIRATION
Arcane Comet | ★ Sorcery is a great pick for Lux because it gives great poke options for her and you can poke them as much as possible during the laning phase. Arcane Comet is great for additional damage. Hitting enemies with your Q or E will benefit you greatly if you use this rune. The main difference between Arcane Comet and Summon Aery is the damage difference. Overall, great rune for Lux. |
Manaflow band |
★ Lux is mana hungry and most people know that. That is why I often prefer to use Manaflow Band to change that up a little. Additionally once you fully stack Manaflow Band you will gain mana regen. Who doesn't love that?! Overall, great solution for how mana hungry she is. |
Scorch | ★ Scorch is great for early laning because you make everyone play more safetly. For an early poke-focused Lux I recommend using this rune. If you want you can switch it up with Gathering Storm since it's also a very good pick. |
-
NOTES:
Everything else is put in Inspiration. The Biscuit Delivery is a perfect thing for a champion like Lux that is very mana hungry. It can allow you to poke and use spells more often. You have the option to sell unused biscuits for 30 gold per Biscuit, and you get the increased mana regardless.
Cosmic Insight provides you with 5% instant cool-down reduction at the beginning of the game, and increases your CDR cap.
Lux also needs as much AP as possible so choosing Adaptive Forceis very good. Shield is also really good considering how squishy Lux can be.
RUNES PRECISION
Presence of Mind |
★ Presence of Mind is a strong rune on Lux as securing picks can reward you with good amount of mana to consistent harass and stay in fights with. But if you do choose this rune you will have to fight consistantly to make it worth it. |
Coup de Grace |
★ Precision is a strong secondary rune set-up as it provides you with the tools for more damage in the form of Coup de Grace. It will help you out during early game. |
-
NOTES:
Use the same Adaptive Force and Shield on this one. Precision will provide you more damage and you can poke a lot more in the laning phase. But you can as well change up Coup de Grace with Cut Down if you want.
RUNES DOMINATION
Relentless Hunter |
★ Lux is an immobile champion and requires good positioning to be effective. Relentless Hunter helps Lux with reposition, warding, rotating to fights and to close the gap between her and her target. |
Taste of Blood |
★ Taste of Blood adds extra health sustain which you don't have in your kit to help come out in or recover from bad trades. |
-
NOTES:
Once again, use Adaptive Force and Shield. Domination will help you out with champions like Leona, Pyke and Rakan.
SUPPORT CORE ITEMS
Athene's Unholy Grail gives the ability to heal people with your shield based off the damage you do. And as we know Lux is great at doing exactly that. It also produces additional AP, provides Magic Resistance, CDR, Mana Regen. When combined with other shielding items such as Ardent Censer and Redemption it will grant you bonus AP. Ardent Censer is amazing as well, it gives AP, CDR, Movment Speed. Pick Ardent Censer up first if you're team is snowballing and is forcing fights. Redemption is amazing since it can provide healing, can turn a teamfight over quickly. Redemption is best used during a team fight as it will likely heal most of your teammates and damage the enemy at the same time. The downside is often teammates will run away from the heal, quickly makes it hard to use. |
NOTES:
You can also pick up items like Mejai's Soulstealer which is a great snowballing item. Or even Shurelya's Battlesong that you can use as an engaging tool and a disengage emergency button if needed. You might also want to pick up Twin Shadows since it gives you the ability to find and catch-out out of position champions like a support trying to ward as well as a great amount of AP.
DAMAGE CORE ITEMS
Luden's Tempest is a core item for all mages and Lux is no different. It gives CDR, AP and a useful passive. One of my favorite items for her. It is also a hefty supply of mana, high burst with 90 ability power and splash damage with a 20% cool-down reduction. Zhonya's Hourglass is a great item to have that is a must. If you build full damage you will be very squishy and this item really helps out with that. It's active puts you in stasis which makes you invurnerable and untargetable for 2.5 seconds which is amazing against assassins, allowing you to survive their burst. Morellonomicon gives you more magic penetration, increases your damage and provides more AP and health. The item should also be considered on Utility based builds if the enemy has alot of healing or champions who's kits are based heavily in healing. |
NOTES:
Once again you can change it up a little or add these extra items: Rabadon's Deathcap is an amazing item with a signficant power spike regardless if you're building utility or damage. It has a 30% AP scaling and gives you a hefty amount of AP to deal the most amount of damage. Void Staff is best utilized on damage builds to be able to make the most amount of use out of this item. I personally often take this one and see no reason why you shouldn't.
CONCLUSION
FINAL WORDS Thank you so much for reading my guide on Lux. Hopefully you enjoyed this guide and will leave a rating and/or a comment, I'd really appreaciate it. This is my first guide ever so if you have any suggestions or tips please let me know. |

NOTES:
Lux is the type of champion that a lot of people would enjoy playing. She provides great shielding and even stunning abilities. You also help your team to stay sustained. So if you like all of that go play a match with Lux!
Luxanna Crownguard hails from Demacia, an insular realm where magical abilities are viewed with fear and suspicion. Able to bend light to her will, she grew up dreading discovery and exile, and was forced to keep her power secret, in order to preserve her family's noble status. Nonetheless, Lux's optimism and resilience have led her to embrace her unique talents, and she now covertly wields them in service of her homeland.
