Introduction

Hey there, you curious Lissandra lover!
I am Jochnes, playing League of Legends over 6 years now!
Lissandra is a champion that I always enjoy playing when she is meta and I picked her up a while ago again.

Pros and Cons

Pros

+ CC
+ Push and Roam
+ Safe from ganks
+ high range engage

Lissandra can push lane very safe at any point in game with Ice Shard. Her roams are insane and teamfight's are her biggest strength with the amount of CC and catch-potential she provides on such a high range with Glacial Path.
Cons

- Hard lane
- Reliant on follow-up
- obvious engage

Laning can be very hard if you don't manage to push instantly. Glacial Path is an obvious engage and Cleanse Quicksilver Sash Mikael's Crucible are hard-counters.

Summoner Spells

SUMMONER SPELLS
-
FLASH: You can use it to catch enemies, with it's a guranteed kill if you get follow-up!
Ignite: makes your all-in stronger and your enemy laner will have to be much more careful with poking you!
Cleanse: It's only good for her to take if enemies got instant CC abilities that would stop you from using Zhonya's Hourglass or self-casting Frozen Tomb like Fiddlesticks Q Terrify.
Teleport: It's considerable for hard-matchups but I think Ignite helps better with that. Though the possible Teleport flanks and ganks are pretty strong!

Runes

Electrocute

Electrocute

โœฆ Electrocute
Makes your all-in much stronger and will go off on your primary target since you probably won't hit a tank with 3 spells or attacks! Any bit of burst dmg that Lissandra can get from Runes, Summoner Spells or items is really appreciated!

Manaflow Band

โœฆ Manaflow Band
By damaging an enemy champion every 15 seconds you gain up to 250 Mana and bonus Mana reg.. There will be a display, showing Manaflow Band's cooldown on top of your ability bar. Try to hit an enemy with Ice Shard as it comes up!

Transcendence

โœฆ Transcendence
Lissandra is all about her CC and less cooldowns mean more CC!
You will get more opportunities for finding an engage with Glacial Path and have Frozen Tomb more often for free kills!

Eyecall collection

โœฆ Eyeball Collection
Buy sweeping lense after reaching level 6 to get it stacked up, it will be super efficient when reaching 20 stacks as you get 30 AP of it.

Cheap Shot

โœฆ Cheap Shot
After cc'ing an enemy your next dmg on them will deal bonus true dmg to them on a 4 second cooldown. Increases her all-in and sustain dmg because you can always auto attack after Ice Shard to get the bonus dmg!

Ultimate Hunter

โœฆ Ultimate Hunter
Frozen Tomb holds a lot of Lissandra's potential in it, so having a lower cooldown on it is very valueable!
Make sure to get those Kills and Asists to earn Ultimate Hunter stacks!

Arcane Comet

Arcane comet

โœฆ Arcane Comet
Ice Shard will be guranteed to hit it almost eveytime, Ring of Frost and Frozen Tomb will hit everytime! Gives a lot of DPS and it's cooldown is reduced for any enemy hit with your abilites by 10%.

Cheap shot

โœฆ Cheap Shot
After cc'ing an enemy your next dmg on them will deal bonus true dmg to them on a 4 second cooldown. Increases her all-in and sustain dmg because you can always auto attack after Ice Shard to get the bonus dmg!

Scorch

โœฆ Scorch
Adds more power to all-in and grants good poke in lane! If you think it's going to be a long game, I recommend Gathering Storm instead.

[EDIT 8.23] I havn't had the time to add the new rune page seen at the top of this guide, if you have any questions about that or other things that have changed on this patch, feel free to ask!

Abilities

PASSIVE
ABILITY
Iceborn Subjugation (Passive):

Whenever an enemy champion dies while Lissandra is near, she spawns a Frozen Thrall from their corpse.

Frozen Thralls chase nearby enemies, prioritizing champions, slowing nearby enemies by 25% and shattering after 4 seconds, dealing 120โˆ’520 (based on level) (+30% of ability power) magic damage. Frozen Thralls gain increasing movement speed over their duration.

Q
Ice Shard (Q) :

Range: 725
Cooldown: 6 / 5.25 / 4.5 / 3.75 / 3
Cost: 60 / 63 / 66 / 69 / 72
Throws a spear of ice that travels in a line and shatters when it hits an enemy, dealing 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 / 190 (+70% of ability power) magic damage and slowing its Movement Speed by 16 / 19 / 22 / 25 / 28% for 1.5 seconds. Shards then pass through the target, dealing the same damage to other enemies hit (but not slowing them).

W
Ring of Frost (W) :

Cooldown: 14 / 13 / 12 / 11 / 10
Cost: 40
Freezes an area around Lissandra, dealing 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 / 190 (+30% of ability power) magic damage to nearby enemies and rooting them for 1.1 / 1.2 / 1.3 / 1.4 / 1.5 seconds.

E
Glacial Path (E) :

Range: 1050
Cooldown: 24 / 21 / 18 / 15 / 12
Cost: 80 / 85 / 90 / 95 / 100
Casts a claw of ice that moves forward in a line, dealing 70 / 115 / 160 / 205 / 250 (+60% of ability power) magic damage to all enemies hit. Reactivating this ability transports Lissandra to the claw's current location.

R
Frozen Tomb (R) :

Cooldown: 120 / 100 / 80
Cost: 100
Enemy Cast: Freezes target champion solid, dealing 150 / 250 / 350 (+70% of ability power) magic damage and stunning it for 1.5 seconds.

Self Cast: Lissandra encases herself in dark ice for 2.5 seconds, becoming untargetable and invulnerable but unable to take any actions. Lissandra also gets healed for 100 / 150 / 200 (+30% of ability power) (+ 1% per 1% of missing health).

Dark ice then spreads from Lissandra's target dealing 150 / 250 / 350 (+60% of ability power) magic damage to enemies. The ice lasts for 3 seconds and slows enemy Movement Speed by 30 / 45 / 75%.

Core item builds

Doran's Ring
Doran's Ring gives you good mana sustain for a long period of time, because you will sell it pretty late. It also makes your push stronger with the 15 AP and protects you from burst damage with it's 60 health. You can add Refillable Potion to it and also Dark Seal if you got some gold left.

Corrupting Potion
Start with it when you will have a hard time in lane or want to trade a lot. I think it's a good choice right now! You could take Time Warp Tonic and Biscuit Delivery as second rune set for Inspiration.
Lissandra can survive Corrupting Potion and similar to Summon Aery it adds bonus magic damage to your auto attacks and abilities. It's a 3 second DOT that burns enemies, hitting them multiple times will only refresh the DOT not overstack it. Lissandra's poke becomes stronger with this, try to push and go base when your stacks on Corrupting Potion are gone.

Sorcerer's Shoes
Increases your damage against champions drasticly.
With Sorcerer's Shoes you deal 12% more magic damage against enemies with 33 Magic Resistance. With Oblivion Orb it will be true dmg instead of 25% reduced.

Ionian boots of lucidity
10% Cdr. on abilities, Flash and Ignite is very good for such a low price, go for it if you feel like it's more about having your utility instead of damage in the game!

Luden's Echo
More burts damage, better wave clear, endless mana and a lot of Cdr. make this item a considerable option for Lissandra that not of players chose to take. I chose this item for my build to have a good item to combine with Liandry's Torment. If you buy Hextech Protobelt-01 you would lack mana and Rod of Ages is too slow in my opinion. Though with Luden's Echo you pretty squishy but for buying Liandry's Torment it's probably the best item to buy first. It's hard to decide, just try everything out and decide for yourself!

Liandry's Torment
Great choice against tanks, since you deal %Max Health damage with it and also keep up the 10% extra damage buff on your abilities. Because of the slow from Ice Shard and the root and stun from Ring of Frost and Frozen Tomb Liandry's Torment's passive will deal doubled damage. It's insane for Lissandra because her base damages and scalings are not too good, this gives her a lot of dmg for free!

Rabadon's Deathcap
It's the most cost efficient item so Rabadon's Deathcap is highly recommended as 3rd or 4th item! Even Frozen Tomb's self healng scales with AP and it gives Lissandra better and faster wave clear which his very valueable in late game!

Zhonya's Hourglass
It gives her the ability to stall out fights for up to 5 seconds by using Frozen Tomb on herself! You can also Frozen Tomb an enemy and then use Zhonya's Hourglass to wait for the follow-up from your team. So you rather buy it for the active than for the stats.

Situational

Hextech Protobelt-01
It's a good early game item, adds a lot of all-in potential and can also be used to clear the wave. Sell it in late game for another more expensive item!
You can use the active to get closer to your enemies, similar to Flash.
If you didn't have to use it for engage, try to activate it whe nthe enemy is stunned and you are in front of him, as all the projectlies will hit him!

Rod of Ages
It provides a better Mid and Late Game and makes Lissandra much more tanky! You can buy it against very scaling team comps. If the meta changes and games will be longer, this will be a better item for her again!

Void Staff
I don't think it's a go-to item anymore though it's still powerful. If the enemy team builds some magic resistance on everyone then it's probably worth it. If they build a lot of MR you should probably build it earlier on, though Lissandra wants to get other items like Zhonya's Hourglass first!

Banshee's Veil
In some hard matchups or overall against assasins you can build an early Null-Magic Mantle and later on build it into Banshee's Veil. Also allows you to dodge spells like Death Sentence that will be aimed at your Glacial Path position!

Morellonomicon
Build Oblivion Orb first and leave it with that for now. Finish Morellonomicon after other items as you build it only for the 15 magic penetration The stats gained from other items are much more valueable than the stats you gain from finishing Morellonomicon.
Only if the enemies have a lot of heals it would be worth to finish Morellonomicon early for the grivious wounds or if you don't have a lot of gold!

Early Game

Push the wave constantly with Ice Shard and try to hit the enemy champion while doing so. Iceborn will give you the needed mana for doing so and always keep track of it's cooldown, sometimes it's better to wait a second until it comes up to safe some mana in the end!
Stay as close as possible to the enemy minions so you can reach your opponent!
From level 5 on you will only need 2 Ice Shard's to kill the caster minion's!

You can also use Glacial Path and Ring of Frost for wave clear to get a faster push and roam on another lane! Be careful though as it leaves you open with no deffense to ganks or all-ins from your opponent!

When reaching level 6 you can always think about all-ins on your opponent, try to use a lot of auto attacks between your spells as they will increase your combo damage!
In later stages of game it's harder to get off so many auto attacks though because they won't do a lot of dmg and just make you stand still for nothing.

Also think about using Frozen Tomb on yourself instead, if the enemy has Cleanse he would be uneffected by the stun and the healing gained from self casting it is pretty good. When going for self-cast Frozen Tomb it's the best moment to do it as your enemy uses a high impact spell like Command: Shockwave as you will dodge it and still slow the enemy so he can't run away from you, that's probably a won trade!

Mid Game

You want to roam a lot and as I already explained the things about pushing your lane, now lets talk about how to roam!
Use Glacial Path to get over big walls, you can already reactivate it when being in middle of the wall as it will teleport you outside of it. By that you can get a much higher range on it or just safe time and be faster where you want to be!

A combination of Glacial Path Flash Ring of Frost Ice Shard and Frozen Tomb will suprise the enemy and give very low reaction time for counter play! It's up to your decision making if you should cast Frozen Tomb on yourself or and enemy!

Casting it on yourself is probably better for this combo in late game, because it takes less times since self cats Frozen Tomb has no cats time but when using it on an enemy it does! In Early and Mid game though you won't die instanly and it's more important that you stun the main carry of enemy team!

Another combo I love to pull of is the (I just gave it a name right now) "Back Slide Shard"!
1. Use Glacial Path behind you and run into the enemy team
2. Use Ice Shard followed by Ring of Frost when you get close to them, or if they engage on you
3. Reactivate Glacial Path instantly so they won't catch you, and you're out!

Late Game

Try to use Ice Shard on the enemy front line to hit their back line with the extended range, otherwhise it can be hard to get onto them some times. You cant ractivate every Glacial Path, sometimes your team won't follow or the enemies will position too well so that it would be a suicide for Lissandra.
Use Glacial Path as a damaging ability if needed, like when clearing waves but on champions, you can also activate it then after you hit the enemy. By that you get the damage and the jump!

Lissandra's late game is about catching enemies and deciding teamfights by her big AOE CC spells! Some enemies take Cleanse and buy Quicksilver Sash or Mikael's Crucible to counter your CC and also Mercury's Treads to make your CC less powerful.
Though if you cast Frozen Tomb on yourself in the middle of the enemy team, they will be slowed by 70% while standing in an area around you. The effects from their items won't protect them from that since the slow always gets applied onto them again, Mercury's Treads only lower the duration not the strength of a slow. You can also cast Frozen Tomb on an enemy in the middle of his team]] and get the same effct!

Try to get as many spell casts out as possible before going into Frozen Tomb self-cast or Zhonya's Hourglass while stalling out the teamfight. For example: Glacial Path in the enemy team, use Ice Shard and Ring of Frost then Frozen Tomb yourself, use Ice Shard again and then use Zhonya's Hourglass. After that you will have your back again!

[EDIT 8.23] The damages loss on Ring of Frost and Frozen Tomb and gain of Iceborn Subjugation changes Lissandras playstyle a little bit. Even thoug before she already wasn't a high damage dealer and more of a supportive enage Mage, that's now even more so. Lissandra needs to rely on her team to get kills while she is in the middle of a fight, surviving with Aftershock Frozen Tomb and Zhonya's Hourglass and using her crowd control to set up kills. If played out correctly the whole changes are huge buffs and it's very important now to skill Glacial Path secondary! Since the damage gain of skillpoints into Ring of Frost got a big nerf and the travel speed of Glacial Path was increased so it's more likely to being able to deal damage.

If you have any questions about the changes that came with this patch, feel free to ask!
