Wait out His Q, then abuse Lane Harass Combo against him. After he uses Q again go for an extended trade with E, try to W his E. Rush bumble vest.
Whenever she goes in for cs do the lane harass combo while using passive off cooldown. Dont stand near walls because she can fast E you and might be hard to W it. If shes maxing W you can use E onto a minion to dodge it to avoid taking big damage.
My perma ban if i intend to play poppy. DO NOT PICK POPPY into this matchup. Care for his all in with Ghost. Try to dodge his Q's and if u get pulled in E towards a minion behind you. Play lane to farm and use W/R defensively if he plans to all in you.
Abuse Lane Harass combo and play passive til level 2. Take W level 2 and always look to W her 3rd Q because that is the one that cc's you. Vid here: https://youtu.be/D5ojQ4PTD4U
Abuse Lane Harass Combo and avoid his melee Range E's. Take W 2nd and always W his Q. Long range Q's are easy to W short ranged ones are a bit harder.
Her Q out ranges yours so don't look for trade on the first one. After she uses one she doesn't have enough energy for a Second so then look to apply the Lane Harass Combo. Do no trade whilst shes shrouded either because its like fighting a ghost. W her E with good reaction times. Teamfights W her R.
Take Conqueror here. Apply Lane harass combo and dodge his Q to the best of your ability. Apply 1 Lane Harass Combo once you are level 3 and then once its just about to tick out go for an extended trade.
Duck into the wave to dodge his Q's and take magic resit if needed. Can also run the conqueror page if damage is needed in your comp. Rush Exec/bramble depending on enemy composition. Apply lane harass combo and if hes running you down disegange with E to minion, R him away or W away. Or just do all of the above.
Skill matchup based on reaction time. Take W lvl 2, and apply lane harass combo whenever you can. Bait her Q level 2 and W it to get a HUGE trade off once you're level 2. She can Q-W your W so be careful. Hug a wall when she ults you so she cant proc her vital. Rush bramble, Vid here: https://youtu.be/GeV74eWtsG8
Extremely bad match up, don't pick poppy into it. Start dorans shield and go second wind in runes. First back get corrupting pot whilst rushing tabis. Play to farm as he just Q spams you and there's nothing you can really do about it. W to disengage and Passive barrels to avoid dying.
Can be a hard matchup if you don't respect him but general rule of thumb is to play to farm and apply lane harass combo. IF HE Q'S AT YOU, YOU Q HIM + W to disengage. Doing this will allow you to come ahead of EVERY trade. Play to farm as it is hard to kill him with his insane sustain/tankiness.
Ever since his buffs its actually a difficult match up . Play to farm to the best ability and only trade with him in MEGA form applying the lane harass combo but beware of his mega form W. Rush D shield after corrupting pot and call for jungler because you can setup ganks really well by E'ing onto a minion to close the gap then W'ing his jump.
Skill matchup that relies on dodging her tentacles. Apply general lane harass combo here but it is VITAL to dodge her E as thats how she gets her really good trades onto you. You can also W her W to catch her offguard and get a nice trade in. DONT R DURING her R animation because she is immune to CC during it.
Irelia sucks atm, but just look out for when shes about to Last hit a minon with Q to W it. Apply lane harass combo whenever you can and rush bramble. Disengage if she has max conq stacks + passive stacks, dodge her e :)
Repesct his level 1-3, afterwards you can look for extended trades. W his melee form Q. Apply lane harass combo and Passive + grasp him whenever you can. Rush tabis
Abuse her early because she hard outscales you. Treat her as you would the jax matchup for 1-5 whilst pushing for an early kill.
Rush mercs and play to farm, he hard bullies you but you can outscale with an adaptive helm rush. D shield start and disengage with W/E/R.
Easy matchup but be cautious for his remount! Apply general lane combo and walk out of his Q if you get hooked. Apply general lane combo when you can and your W works on his E and dismounted Q so use your good judgement. Ping him when he's missing.
Apply lane harass combo whenever he goes for cs. Go MR if they have a lot more ap than just him. Your W Doesn't work on his R and you can use your E to a minion to dodge his ultimate. Free matchup.
Rush execs and build MR if their team has more ap. Play around his mana bar when looking for trades because his abilities cost him a lot. Your W doesn't work on his W. Remeber that his Q outranges yours so be cautious. Vid here: https://youtu.be/7Iufudcqj7Y
Go for extended trades and when he procs his passive, E to a minion behind you to disengage. Rush double dorans blade & try your best to constantly dodge his skillshots. You win levels 1-5 but he does outscale you. If ulted by Morde run to edge then channel a Max charge ultimate to hit him with to stall the duration of his ult. Vid here: https://youtu.be/ntyhaVgMnBI
He out scales you so you are on a timer. Punish every cs he goes for with lane harass combo and rush bramble vest. If he starts splitting scaling after scaling match his split and clear wave with Q, Sunfire and Iceborn. Teleport when appropriate.
Respect his level 1-2 all in potential, can look for harass with Q & Passive but you HAVE to dodge incoming axes or you risk burning sums/flatout dying. Try your best to disengage using e/w respectfully if he gets a series of axes onto you.
Easy matchup once you understand it. Bait him into W'ing you then Q him once he starts it and immediately Run in the opposite direction. This will cause him to get hit by Both of your Q's. Hit him with grasp passive whenever you can. W his E if he looks to punish you in lane with it. Your W also works on his 2nd R cast so look lookout for that as well. Vid here: https://youtu.be/SC7_8DaejBA
Look to dodge his spears and respect his strong early game. Try your best to W his W but it is a fairly fast dash. Punish him for csing as another melee match up. Build armour to outscale.
Rush bramble vest. Punish him for farming as any other melee match up and look out for his dash to W it. Watch his fury meter so you get a sense of when he's going to try to trade you. Build armour to outscale.
Hard matchup, play to farm. Go conq and play for extended trades once he's high heat or overheated. Build Adaptive helm.
Difficult matchup, go grasp and punish his weak early by calling for jg to setup a gank. Pay attention to his mana or if phase rush is up before committing to a trade. Build magic resist. Can start E to cheese if u camp toplane brushs to go for an early extended trade.
When he activates his enhanced autos DISENGAGE. Punish him for every cs with the Q-Passive combo and look out for his taunt with W. If he taunts within your hitbox, it WILL go through even if you W it. PAY ATTENTION TO WHEN HE IS ULTING so you can cancel it with either E/R.
Whenever he runs into wave Q + Buckler to punish him. If he charges at you to fling or slow, use your Q+W TO disengage. Repeat this for kill. Go conditioning over bone plating and build magic resist if theres more than him as AP.
Dodge his Q by walking out of it with W, E'ing to a minion (best way) or at him(doing this reduces his Q cooldown so dont advise unless u can kill). Apply basic lane combo until you can kill.
Rush bramble, respect his lvl 1-2 cheese esp if he has ignite. Apply basic lane combo and build tabis and the lane is yours. W his E when approriate. If he is splitting, match it by clearing wave with Q, Sunfire and iceborn gauntlet.
Apply basic lane combo whenever you can and rush a bramble vest. W his E and its an easy matchup. If he messes when dancing around you punish with a stun. Avoid his Q and walk up to him to Q passive.
You can W His W and E but his E is easier since you can literally see it coming, Respect his max passive/conq stacs so dont go for extended. Always apply lane harass combo when you can.
Go conqueror, and look for extended trades when he walks too far up forward. Rush exec calling. Wait out his passive when its ticking. Vid here: https://youtu.be/dmZq4hE38bc
Apply your lane harass combo whenever you can. If he E's you, respond with and while trying to dodge the true damage of his falcon punch. You can also E to do this to facilitate the dodge. Lvl 6 is a huge spike for him so be wary, build armour to scale.
Treat it the same way you would the garen matchup, if he tries to engage onto you Q and kite. Punish with passive once you've created space. You can always disengage with W and/or E'ing a minion behind you if hard commits with pillar and his ult.
You can W his Q( you still get stunned), respect him when his passive is up and dodge his e by walking out of it or E'ing to a minion to dodge it. Apply lane harass combo whenever u can. Don't go for extended trades when his passive is stacked and his w as well. Go second wind because his passive will proc ur bone plating for free + it would be free heals vs him. Can go 1 adaptive force 1 armor 1 mr. Rush exec
Champion Build Guide
I peaked Masters in s9 and now GrandMasters in s10 being known for my aggressive poppy play style.
Not enough? You can take a quick look here:
Here are some examples showcasing poppy's strength:
: To understand teleport you have to understand wave management as a whole. But generally look to get your teammates ahead by teleporting bot lane or to jg skirmishes especially if your wave is shoved or to match the enemy Toplaners teleport. Mid/Late game you wanna look to split and teleport to a fight if one erupts or if you see a potential flank off a ward.
Grasp of the Undying works insanely well with Iron Ambassador towards why it's poppy's primary Keystone. Shield Bash Also works really well with your passive and allows you to get a lot of value out of it in consistent trades and giving you bonus armour and magic resist that also works with Steadfast Presence passive of increasing your armour and magic resist.
Bone Plating works really well at reducing burst from champions like Sett & Garen but Conditioning works a lot better versus champions Singed whom don't really get to burst you. Second Wind vs auto attacked harass based champions like Teemo or Kennen.
Revitalize is core because it works insanely well with Grasp of the Undying, Iron Ambassador shield as well as any other healing/shielding you may receive from outside sources like Janna's Eye Of The Storm
Taste of Blood works a lot better than biscuits in inspiration in my opinion because the healing from them is really really minimal and you barely even feel it. Relentless Hunter is an really good rune as it allows you to push any lead you get top into better map movement allowing for better flanks and roams so just an overall really good keystone.
I take armour or magic resist depending on who i'm facing and will double down on it if a bad matchup or the enemy team has a lot of it. If it is a good match ex: Aatrox i like to take two adaptive forces.
When it comes to itemization on poppy she is very diverse in terms of what you can build as a Tank and for that i say ALWAYS BUILD TO ADAPT TO ENEMY COMPOSITION. There is no linear build path for Poppy vs someone like Jax who ALWAYS builds Trinity Force. The only core item i'd say on poppy is Sunfire Aegis but afterwards you HAVE to build according to your comp and the enemies. So here i'll drop some examples;
You have 8-0 a Master Yi and the enemy has 3+ AD? Build Knight's Vow for him. You have a Soraka on your team and they're 2+ AP? Spirit Visage Sounds good here.
A Good poppy player will always ADAPT to their composition and the enemies.
Lane Harass Combo: Hammer Shock > Auto Space > Iron Ambassador + Grasp of the Undying
ALWAYS LOOK TO PICK UP SHIELDY after using Iron Ambassador.
If you cannot pick up your shield due to it landing in a bad spot, duck into the brush to drop minion aggro!
During this time use Steadfast Presence to interrupt any dash's the enemy may use onto you or to escape like Hookshot, Spinning Slash or Slice and Dice
If the enemy stands near terrain punish with Heroic Charge into a Lane Harass Combo!
If you Manage to Use your Lane Harass Combo more than Twice, you should look to go for an extended trade afterwards or all in them. Use your good judgement!
All in poppy Combo: Heroic Charge > AA > Hammer Shock > AA > Keeper's Verdict
Note that this is what you call a CC Chain, maximizing the duration that the opponent cannot move whilst doing as much damage as you can to them. You can also factor in incoming CC from an ally to keep someone perma CC'd.
Heroic Charge can also be used to escape or close the gap to repeat the Lane Harass Combo by using it onto a minion! Be Creative in your play!
You can buffer up your Hammer Shock before using Flash to catch your enemies off guard! Really useful to finish off low health enemies.
Keeper's Verdict can also be used as a Finisher! Just be careful not to send the enemy flying to their nexus instead. Example:
You can use your Iron Ambassador for an instant shield onto a low health minion or jungle plants like Blast Cone if you need it! Here's a clutch example:
+General Lane Combo VS Melee is Hammer Shock > Auto Space > Iron Ambassador
+Use Keeper's Verdict to Split up team's in a Teamfight.
+Always Steadfast Presence important Dashs or its usually a dead Ability!
+Always pick up Iron Ambassador when trading!
+ Flash + Heroic Charge to catch enemies out of position!
