Key Interactions

  • Axiom Arcanist + Transcendence: Used by Hybrid PTA and Ult Focus. Axiom Arcanist adds +12% Stand United shielding and removes 7% of current remaining cooldown after a qualifying takedown; Transcendence supplies the Sorcery cooldown package and later basic-ability cooldown reduction.
  • Glacial Augment: Shadow Dash triggers a slow field that extends post-taunt control, can affect multiple enemies, and reduces affected enemies' damage to allied champions other than Shen by 15%. That reduction protects allies only; it does not make Shen personally tougher, so his own survival still comes from Ki Barrier, Spirit's Refuge, positioning, Health, and resistances.
  • Shield Bash + Bone Plating: This is the defensive backbone of Early Duel PTA. Shen repeatedly activates Shield Bash through Ki Barrier, gaining extra defenses while shielded and empowering his next champion basic attack after gaining a shield. Bone Plating reduces the damage of the enemy champion's next several attacks or spells after they damage Shen, making it especially valuable when a lane opponent has to commit multiple hits to complete a trade.
  • Early Duel PTA loop: Enter a favorable trade with Ki Barrier available, use the shield to activate Shield Bash, stack Press the Attack through Shen's basic attacks, and let Bone Plating absorb part of the opponent's retaliation. Legend: Alacrity supports faster attack sequences, while Last Stand improves damage as Shen's Health drops during extended fights. This page is strongest when lane combat matters more than Sorcery's ultimate utility.
  • What Protoplasm Mimic means: It is a playstyle package, never an item pairing. It combines Glacial ally protection/control, Magical Footwear and Triple Tonic economy, Triumph's healing and gold after a champion takedown, up to 15 basic-ability haste from Legend: Haste, Heartsteel scaling, and defenses chosen for the fight. Legend: Haste never reduces Stand United's cooldown.
  • Protoplasm Mimic loop: Create the Glacial zone, survive through Shen's own shields and defenses, secure a takedown for Triumph, then use Legend: Haste to reach later basic-ability cycles. Triumph is post-takedown sustain, not preventive protection.
  • Page tradeoffs: Protoplasm Mimic is the default utility/sustain page. Hybrid PTA trades Glacial and fixed economy for direct-fight pressure plus Sorcery's ultimate utility. Early Duel PTA gives up Sorcery for Shield Bash and Bone Plating, making it the more lane-focused PTA configuration when early trades and all-ins are the priority. Ult Focus keeps Glacial while restoring Sorcery. All four start Heartsteel; Zeke's Convergence Riftmaker is a shared analysis benchmark, not a mandatory live-game sequence.

Primary Core


Every page completes Heartsteel first. The 2x Giant's Belt notation is purchase guidance toward that one completion, not two separate canonical entries. A needed Bramble Vest, basic Boots, trinket swap, or Control Ward can fit around the component path without changing the universal first item.

Protoplasm Mimic names the default Glacial/Precision playstyle, never an item pairing. It combines Glacial ally protection/control, Magical Footwear and Triple Tonic rune economy, Triumph's post-takedown sustain, up to 15 basic-ability haste from Legend: Haste, Heartsteel scaling, and fight-dependent follow-up items. Glacial's damage reduction protects allied champions other than Shen; it does not grant Shen personal durability. Triumph heals only after a champion takedown, so it extends a fight after a conversion rather than preventing the opening damage.

Pet and boot choices remain fight-dependent too: use Mosstomper Seedling for opening-burst protection, Scorchclaw Pup when sticking is harder, and upgrade boots for the damage or control pattern in front of you.

  • Raw completion cost holds the same items constant: 3,000g at one item, 5,200g at two, and 8,300g at three.
  • Comparable inventory cost adds paid basic Boots where required and subtracts Avarice's 60g after it has been received.
  • Stand United cooldown uses one inventory, rank-2 R, level-8 Transcendence where selected, and each page's actual shard. Legend: Haste affects basic abilities only and is never counted toward R.
  • Axiom Arcanist remains a takedown-triggered current-cooldown refund, not passive haste.
  • Gold efficiency values quantified stats only, while permanent-HP scaling remains scenario-based and depends on realized Heartsteel stacks.
Default reference: Protoplasm Mimic is the recommended page. A shared inventory makes the table a rune comparison, not evidence that one live-game build order must fit every fight.

Protoplasm Mimic mimics a repeatable fight pattern, not an item or item pairing.

Clear Mechanics

  • Time the opener: Wolves, Blue, Red, and Raptors spawn at 0:55; Gromp and Krugs at 1:07. For a 0:55 opener, Q at roughly 0:50.
  • Reposition the blade on camps: Recalling the Spirit Blade always grants three ordinary Twilight Assault attacks and can improve the next camp's pull or Spirit's Refuge position. Passing the blade through a jungle monster does not trigger the champion-only Q upgrade.
  • Keep moving the clear forward: Attack while the pet works, path toward the exit that serves the next decision, and focus the large monster on multi-monster camps.
  • Protect cooldowns: Use E on camps only when champion contact is unlikely before it returns; use W only when it meaningfully preserves Health.
  • Use Ki Barrier deliberately: Space casts for extra shields only when the shield will absorb meaningful damage.

Pathing & Objectives


Decision rule: Leave the route only when Shen can reach the play, survive entry, get immediate allied participation, and gain more than the resources being surrendered. If any condition disappears, return to the route.
  • First clear: Default from a 0:55 top-side camp toward lower map; the opener may be Wolves, Blue, Red, or Raptors. Reassess after every camp instead of following a mandatory six-camp script.
  • After each camp: Check lane Health/waves, Summoners/priority/move timing, and enemy-jungle information before choosing the next action.
  • Gank: Go when Shadow Dash can connect, the target remains punishable, an ally can follow, and the enemy jungler is unlikely to flip the play.
  • River: Take Scuttle/control when nearby lanes can move first.
  • Invade: Enter for a specific camp, vision, or objective route, and know the exit first.
  • Farm/reset: If the play requires a large enemy mistake, take the guaranteed resource.
  • Reset: Spend around the next meaningful breakpoint and do not delay tempo for low-value purchases.
  • After ganks: Convert immediately into vision, Scuttle, a known enemy camp, an objective, reset, or the next friendly camp.
  • Objective setup: Far quadrant → clear toward objective → reset/spend → enter river early; do not force a late contest through fog without lane priority.

Ganking & Corrections

  • Champion contact: Shadow Dash → recall Twilight Assault so the Spirit Blade passes through the enemy champion when possible → upgraded Twilight Assault attacks; move with the target, but stay attached only while the target and position justify it.
  • Preserve Shadow Dash: Walk into range when possible; save E for mobility, escape, or peel, and use Flash + Shadow Dash only for high-value corrections.



Global & Teamfighting



Stand United Decisions


While R is available, keep collecting camps, vision, river position, objective setup, and safe enemy resources. When it is down, route closer to the side most likely to need help.

Before R
  1. Does the target survive the channel? If not, do not start it.
  2. What do I give up? Camp, objective, invade, unspent gold, or route position.
  3. What does arrival win? Numbers, a shutdown, a saved carry, takedowns, or an objective conversion.
  4. What is the exit? Know the next objective, camp, enemy resource, lane exit, or reset before committing.

After casting: Reassess on arrival. Peel if the protected ally is still threatened; engage only when moving forward creates more value than staying between the ally and danger.

Teamfighting

  • Choose target quality over target count: Multi-target Shadow Dash matters only when the targets matter.
  • Engage: Commit when a meaningful target is reachable, allies can follow immediately, and Shen survives long enough to Spirit's Refuge or cycle toward another Shadow Dash.
  • Peel: Let divers enter reliable Shadow Dash range. Spirit's Refuge forms around the Spirit Blade, not Shen, so keep the blade where the threatened carry can use it when basic attacks are the threat.
  • After Shadow Dash: Stay on the target whose removal, control, or retreat changes the fight most.
  • Spirit's Refuge: Cast when meaningful basic attacks begin, not merely on melee contact.
  • Stand United arrival: If the protected ally remains threatened, arrive between them and danger instead of automatically dashing forward.
  • Long fights: Track the second ability cycle; a second Shadow Dash can decide the fight.
