Champion Build Guide
I mained Jungle on several accounts in Season 10 playing champions such as Nidalee, Xin Zhao, Warwick, and Lee Sin.
Season 11 rolled around and I wanted to switch the roles up that I climbed with, so I chose Mid Lane. My Mid pool consisted of Viego, Yone, Yasuo, and Irelia... but was lacking an AP champion which led me to Zyra Mid. Ever since I started playing her Mid though, my friends have given me a bunch of BS over it lmao, but without further ado, I hope this Zyra Mid Guide will help you play her more effectively.

Isn't Zyra only a Support? Mostly, but although extremely rare, people play her in the Mid Lane.
Can Zyra get me out of low elo? Probably not, she's more for fun, which obviously you can play her in ranked if you want, but you should probably put a hundred games, maybe more in norms before you can expect good, consistent results. This is due to the fact that you need to know matchups and how to lane against them.
Why pick Zyra over champions like Anivia? Tbh it's if you enjoy playing Zyra over champions like Anivia. Anivia is a stronger Mid Lane champion for sure, but Zyra is unique and is really fun to play.
Can you use Press the Attack and Conqueror on Zyra. PTA for sure no, because her plants do not proc PTA. You could use Conqueror on Zyra because her plants stack the rune up, but it's extremely inefficient because you will never heal from it.
Does On-Hit AP Zyra work? Once again, no. Her plants don't proc On-Hit effects suck as Nashor's Tooth.
Ask any other questions you have in the discussion section.
These are the runes you want to take if you are all about burst damage. Some people want to take Dark Harvest when taking the Domination tree, but with Zyra Mid, you feels very weak if you don't take Electrocute or Arcane Comet as your runes. You can switch to Eyeball Collection if you prefer extra AP over vision, but I recommend getting the extra vision.
These runes are the safer runes that I take into most match ups. The reason why these runes tend to be better against the meta is because there are either all in Mid Lane champions like Yasuo, or Viego, and then champions that poke like Anivia and Seraphine. In either case, Zyra has immense potential to poke every champion in lane, and then have an effective roam and teamfight contribution with her AoE Ult, making Arcane Comet an ideal rune for her. Don't get me wrong, Electrocute is a great rune, but I would take it situationally.
- Know Zyra's Matchups & Bring The Correct Runes Accordingly
- Learn Positioning; This Is KEY To Being A Successful Zyra Mid Player
- Know When To Roam And When To Stay In Lane
- Know How To Shove, Freeze, & Slow Push The Wave
- Know That You Will Not Win Every Game With Zyra Mid
- Be Able To Land Most Of Your Skill Shots (Mainly E)
- Help With Objectives (Plants Do Massive Damage)
✦ Flash Flash is the summoner spell that you need to take every single game. It allows you to secure a kill, or escape from a gank. You can also use Flash right before you hit R and it will make catch the opposing team off guard. Make sure you use Zhonya's. |
✦ IgniteThis summoner spell is if you want to be more aggressive during the laning phase and in skirmishes. Personally I would only take Ignite into melee matchups, such as Yone, Akali, and Pantheon because the won't poke as much |
✦ Barrier Barrier is the summoner spell that I suggest you always take into any matchup that involves a poking battle. This is because you should win almost any poke matchup, but just in case you have Barrier if you get ganked or something. |

In my opinion starting Grasping Roots before Deadly Spines is better because you can surprise the other Laner given that most players would start Deadly Spines. Also, it can be very helpful if your team invades or gets invaded, and if you land one root it can take a chunk of the other players health if your plants are nearby when you use it.

Ionian Boots of Lucidity > ABILITY HASTE This is the cheapest ability haste item that is worth rushing because it give you summoner spell cooldown, movement speed, and ability haste in one item, at the small cost of 900 gold. Sorcerer's Shoes > MAGIC PENETRATION There are games when the other team has tanks that will build magic resist in which you should use these boots instead of Ionian Boots of Lucidity. You can also use this into a team of squishes and deal massive amount of damage give they already don't have much magic resist. |

Luden's Tempest is a great item for burst damage against teams with a lot of squishy champions, such as assassins and mages. Your plants will proc the burst damage after 10 seconds have passed. | Liandry's Anguish is an item meant for tanks, but can be used in every game, given it does constant burn damage to everything; champions, minions, and monsters. |
You definitely want Demonic Embrace first after you rush your mythic and boots, unless they have champions like Zed or Yasuo where Zhonya's Hourglass would prove to be more effective. Rylai's Crystal Scepter is the core item that you should replace with another situational item if need in a game because it is less important than Zhonya's Hourglass and Demonic Embrace. |
|
Void Staff This item is great with Sorcerer's Shoes. It melts tanks because of the mass amount of magic penetration. |
|
Horizon Focus This is item is good on any champion that immobilizes with an ability Zyra or has a massive ranged ability Nidalee. It got buffed to give the holder 115 AP, making it a great buy! |
|
Rabadon's Deathcap This item tops your AP off. It gives sooooooo much extra AP, but I don't suggest rushing it unless you know what you're doing. |
|
Seraph's Embrace You can build this item from Tear of the Goddess which you should buy as a first back. This should replace Rylai's Crystal Scepter if you chose to buy this item. |
|
Mejai's Soulstealer If you are snowballing in a game (10 stacks on Dark Seal) which you should of bought when you first backed, you should buy this, high risk high reward. |
|
Morellonomicon This item is necessary in some games. Champions like Fiora, Garen, Yasuo, Samira, or Warwick heal insane amounts of health making this item a necessary purchase in certain games. |

Mid Game
This is when the game gets fun depending on how you have been doing that game. By this point in the game, if you are fed you should have 300-500 AP (depending on the items bought) and can CC lock enemies in team fights killing them in the process as well. Your AoE Ult can kill multiple champions at once and can give a game changing knock up for you team to engage on the enemy team. If you have someone like Yasuo, he's gonna be poppin off of your Ult if he is somewhat fed. This is one of the reason why Zyra Mid Lane is soooo fun.
