Threats & Synergies
"[Phase Rush, Corrupting Potion, Q > W] - Aatrox is a pretty challenging lane, you will very likely be down cs which is normal. - His Q dash pokes you and it gets pretty annoying and hard to dodge. His regular Qs can be outplay however. - His 1st Q can be baited out by fake walking toward and away from him or play at an angle with him and you can side step it as well - His 2nd Q can be dodged just by going near him - His 3rd Q just run away from him. - If you are really good and manage to outplay his Qs, you'll win the trade everytime but I wouldn't count on it happening often in high elo. - His pull is easy to fail, just Q and run away from him - You don't want to push your lane against him. Wait for jungler to gank and it's easy kill after 6"
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - Pretty chill lane, Q her and stay far away when she's in her shroud of course. - Build early MR and she won't have kill pressure on you. - You don't have a lot of kill pressure on her as well (she most likely builds some omnivamp), just farm as much as you can. - Dodge her Shuriken"
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - Take ignite here instead of TP to smash this lane - Q her whenever possible, play around her damage shields, make sure you don't Q her when she's shielded! - Most important: You want to side step her stun. If you can't for whatever reason, E her before she stuns you. After she does her combo, she should have magic shield up so just W auto her and Q her once it's gone. You win trade everytime. - If she goes in on you, E then start W slapping her! Make sure to leave when she has her second Q charged up! Q when her shield disappears, you win these! - You will win this lane until she gets her first sheen item. But at that point, lane phase should be over soon. - She can use her ult to dodge your ult! Becareful! - Get early Bami's, she does true damage, no reason to get a lot of armor. Get more HP. If she builds lifesteal, get Bramble :) - Position yourself away from the walls below you so you have time to react to her stun. - Avoid her once she has her second Q, she can quickly stun you and true damage Q you and run away"
"[Grasp, Corrupting Potion, W > Q] - If possible, don't leash for your jungler... you need lvl1 prio in this lane, you need to gets to the minion and start charging Grasp first! - Start E lvl1, and trade Grasp autos with him - He's annoying but you can try to kill him if he makes a mistake - He can't really kill you too consistantly but he will if you give him the chance to - Dodge his knock up, fairly easy to dodge - Early game, Try to get grasp procs While not taking too much damage yourself - Once he gets some HP and MR..., you just want to farm and get out of lane phase fast. You won't be able to do anything against him anymore - If the Cho is bad at farming early on, you can actually win the lane"
"[Phase Rush, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - Can chunk you lvl1 if you somehow get in his range... He literally sometimes just run at you lvl1 and try to get some damage in. Hail of Blades darius is kinda crazy... - Q him at very max range, don't get hooked! - You'll be down CS and that's normal, stay alive (don't feed him) in lane phase you are useful later on! - When he's low enough, you can actually try to all in, but he might not give you the chance to. - Once he gets stridebreaker, get out of lane phase! You are just free kills for him! - They all go ghost most of the time, very rarely teleport. Don't push your lane and manage your waves well! If he gets the freeze you're in deep trouble!"
"[Grasp w/ Second Wind, Doran's Shield, W > Q] - Dodge his cleaver, Dodge his minion throwing ability and just Q and W trade with him before he gets his Cleaver back - Boots 2 is good for dodging - Take bramble if you want to win after 6 - Worst part about this match up is if you're trying to farm under turret..."
"[Grasp w/ Second Wind, Doran's Shield, E > Q] - Start E, so she can't just auto you down lvl1 - You definitely don't want to take long extended trades with her, take short trades - You want to get bramble first back then you can go on with your build. - Doran's shield is also good since you can heal her vitals back. - Early game you don't have bramble so she beats you. Play safe, farm, and farm Grasp. - Good Fioras will Riposte your E and auto damage early game, becareful of that. - After you get Bramble, this match up is survivable, but she does sooo much true damage now..."
"[Comet, Corrupting Potion, Q > W] - You want to Q him while not get poked too hard yourself. - He's definitely hard but he shouldn't have a lot of kill pressure on you if you maintain your HP well. - Try to get rid of his barrels whenever you can but don't risk it if you can't. - You can bait out his barrel combo just by fake walking toward and away from him. - He's deceptively tanky (Grasp GP) with his oranges, don't under estimate him and all in him thinking he's low enough! He runs too fast!"
"[Grasp w/ Bone Plating, Doran's Shield, W > Q] - Start W and go E next and get Q lvl3, you can easily trade with him starting lvl1 - Once you get some HP and Armor, he cannot trade with you anymore - Keep on Grasp W him, you can kill him when he's low enough - Make sure you E him before he silences you, press E and W together, they can activate at the same time - Make sure you don't get too low trying to harass him, he takes ignite and can all in you easily"
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - He's kinda annoying because he can kite you but just Q poke him all day, All in once he's low enough. - If he gets in your auto range in mini gnar, make sure to auto him a few times before backing out! - Dodge his skill shot - After 6, stay away from walls when he's about to get mega Gnar. Don't underestimate Mega Gnar! - He's Medium because of Mega Gnar.... Gnar is easy, Mega Gnar is broken... - If he's Mega Gnar, stay very far away from him! He can 100 to 0 you if you're a bit over extended. - When he's about to get Mega Gnar, don't stand near his turret, he can shove you into turret range"
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - Take Short trades! Always side step her Qs, she doesn't do a lot of damage if you walk out of most of her Q damage - Q her all the time, make sure you try to W her if she ever gets too close. - Do not underestimate her, all in her only when she's around 20% hp. If your combo don't kill, she can sustain back and kill you instead! - You don't want to get close to her, she does a lot of damage if you're near her. - You can trade if she uses her Q to waveclear."
"[Phase Rush Corrupting Potion, Q > W] - Try to farm as much as you can. he can be hard and you'll be down CS but just don't feed him kills and you should be good - Still try to Q him all the time and harass him to pressure a kill - Once he gets Everfrost, be very careful, he can cc you to death!"
"[Comet, Corrupting Potion, Q > W] - You can try to kill him as best as you can after 6. - Avoid/dodge his stun combo, and try to get a few Qs on him without taking too much of his turret damage. - All in him if he's at around 70% or less health and when you have some MR items. Last thing you want to do is happen is die when you you all. - People who play Heimer are usually very confident in their abilities. Becareful! - A good jungler will gank your lane"
"[Comet, Corrupting Potion, Q > W]- She usually pushes you in and tries to pull your soul under your turret while you try to farm. She'll pull you when you go for a last hit, give up the first CS to dodge the pull and farm the rest. - Get early boots 2, dodge his soul pulling skill!!! If you dodge it, she has no damage! Run away if it hits! - Q her whenever you get a chance - If you dodge her soul pull, take this chance to trade with her! If she pulls when she's low on health and you dodged it, all in her! - Farm as much as you can."
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > E] - Q him all the time and all in once he's low enough... Can't go wrong with this lane. You can E max as well. - Build bramble if he's going lifesteal"
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - Really easy, he hurts a bit before your first back don't die to him. After you get your first few components, he can't really kill you at all. - [Comet Q > E] Q him when he trys to farm. E, W him if he jumps you. Like it's so easy. - I wonder if they thought of going MR and some life steal against malphite. They know better than I do."
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - She outscales you but before she gets 2 items, you usually win. - Q her constantly and try to juke her slow. - If she lands her slow, run back a bit, don't let her start autoing you. They take PTA usually and she wins trade pre lvl4. - Once she's 6, she'll have prio over you. Once her wave pushes, all in her under your tower or near your tower. You can literally 100 to 0 her because she has a long way to run. - You need to break her freeze whenever she gets one. Tank some HP and push the wave in or you establish a freeze yourself. - You just never want Kayle to be able to free farm risk free. She has to be either worried of a gank or your all in at all time in the game."
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - He's annoying since his auto range and abilities are very long. - He can also escape your all ins and ganks easily. - If he uses his lightning rush to waveclear, this is the best time to try to all in him. - Build MR of course"
"[Phase Rush, Corrupting Potion, Q > W] - Try to dodge his charge hook combo, if you get hit with his full combo, it hurts a lot! - If you can't, do quick combo and phase rush away. - Q him all the time and try to all in him when he dismounts! - To win the all in, you need to save your E and ult AFTER he dismounts! Then just run him down and kill him! - Dodge his pull skillshot of course - If he uses his empowered autos to waveclear, you can get some close range melees in - If he charges you, Q then E immediately and kite him with a few autos. Try to not let him get the last auto off on you."
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - Very similar to Jayce, you'll have some trouble before first back but once you get a few items and Q leveled up he's sooo free - Once you get bramble/bami/armor boots 2 of the 3, you can actually just start running at him - You should be able to solo kill him a few times in lane setting him behind."
"[Grasp w/ Bone Plating, Doran's shield, E > W] - Start E lvl1 is good, so she can't auto you down - She can get you chunked at like lvl1 and stay far away from her when she's about to hit 2 when you're still lvl1 - After that, she's just not a threat until she gets her first item. - Once you get bramble and a health crystal, start bullying her! - Dodge her stun, it's really easy to dodge because you have extra movement speed with your Q - She's gonna get the push on you (and that's good) because she wants to build up her passive stacks."
"[Grasp w/ Bone Plating, Corrupting Potion, W > Q] - I think Maokai is pretty easy since you both can't really kill each other. Given you maintain good HP. - He's basically free Grasp procs for you. Be aggressive and keep stacking your grasp. - Fight and trade away from bushes! - Get MR for sure, your goal is to farm and proc grasp as much as you can. - One thing to becareful is that he has very good jungle gank setup, so let him push you in! - If your jungle ganks for you even once this game, you should win the lane. (Same for him though if his jungler gets a good gank off of you) - Problem is, he's also playing hoping his team is going to carry him just like you... - So winning or losing literally depends on which team's other 4 members is more fed - You don't want to feed Maokai... he's pretty crazy with the sustain later on..."
"[Phase Rush, Corrupting Potion, Q > W] - A classic counterpick against Malphite but honestly he's easier than you think - If you're good at dodging his shit, you can try Grasp, and just take very short Grasp trades! If you can't dodge most of the time, Phase Rush is good - He doesn't have a lot of kill pressure pre 6, he just keeps poking you but you just try to dodge and farm as much as you can - First back, get MR and now even after 6 he can't kill you as well. - In his ult, you want to Q and run away to the border of his ult asap, then he should be very close to you autoing you. Focus on dodging instead of fighting him. Your goal is to stay alive after his ult ends! - Max Q and you can juke his skills very easily. - A tip to juking is to make small directional movements and move in opposite direction when he finally uses his skill. - It's scary to gank him if you don't have a high damage jungler like Nunu. He can actually 1v2 you guys. If you get low damage jungler, tell him to not come top - He forces you to build MR so that's not good if rest of his team is AD heavy"
"[Grasp, Corrupting Potion, W > Q] - Take ignite and try to kill him before he gets his first item! Your biggest enemy is his jungler - If he's just farming Q stacks, he's easy, just farm Grasp off him literally starting lvl1, Starting W or E is really good. - Take Demolish and just destory his plates! - Do not fall behind in farm! Don't just worrying about getting Grasp procs also keep your farm up! - If he's gonna go ap and max E..., well you're in trouble. He's suddenly unfavored..., but if he does this, he won't have a good rest of his game. Your team will have a easy time killing him later. - Once he gets his first sheen item however... You have beeeeen outscaleddd!!! But again... lane phase would probably be over by then. - Since you're the aggressor, watch out for jungle ganks. If you die to jungle ganks, it would have an adverse affect on your lane. You definitely do not want a Nasus snowballing during lane phase..."
"[Grasp, Corrupting Potion, E > W] - Don't stand near walls or his pillar, he'll knock you up. - If you will get knocked up, before he knocks you up, E him. - You can look to trade with him if he uses his flames to wave clear, whenever possible - Try to use your ult to cancel his ult if possible, you can knock him up first and his ult will have no knock up - He goes Bami usually. If he's under turret with low health, ult him and turret will focus him because of Bami. You can get some free kills!"
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - If he takes ignite, becareful of his damage before your first back, after your first back, he can't kill you anymore - Just build early armor, I like 3 cloth against him, then get HP. - Try to stand away from your minions, bait out his Q by walking back and forth. His fast Q should be easy to avoid and short range. - I like Doran's shield, corrupting potion is also fine - When you're escaping from him, don't run in a straight line, try to dodge his spear - Q him constantly then all in him"
"[Grasp, Corrupting Potion, W > Q] - You can take Grasp here as well, if you are good at side stepping her Qs - She can chunk you hard lvl2 at your tower if you let her stun you at your tower! Becareful! If she takes ignite, you're dead! - Do not stand behind or hug walls! Position yourself in the middle of the lane! Easiler said than done because you're not used to this in regular match ups - Bait out his Qs, if you don't let the second part of her Q hit you, you win the trade easily - If you want to Q max, go Comet and buy Doran's ring first, poke when her shield is down."
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - Try to get in range to Q her, she's kinda like lucian, annoying before your first back. - After your first back, she's very easy. Q and all in her whenever possible - After she's 6, make sure you ping her missing immediately! She roams very fast!"
"[Grasp w/ Bone Plating, Doran's Shield, W > Q] - Right now, I prefer to take grasp and max E than W but maxing Q also makes sense - He usually pushes early game to build up his fury, let him do that and trade grasp Ws and E with him near your turret. Trades should be pretty even when your passive is up. - You will be down a few CS before first back, once you get a few components, you can win quick trades with him and get him low enough to all in. - If he dashes to you, try to E before he stuns you. - Watch out for his fury bar of course. - Bait his Q out by fake walking toward and away from him. - Sometimes you might not get an auto off because he can cancel your auto with his stun... So just fake the auto and E him before he stuns you."
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - Rengar top... is pretty annoying but if you play safe, you can't lose. - It's somewhat hard to kill him with his sustain but same goes for him. E and W him once he jumps in to trade - After 6, You might be able to all in him when you have your ult. His ult is pretty useless in lane. Most likely used to run away. - He can outplay you around those top bushes, and his heal is ridiculous... Gives him the respect he deserves. - Rengar top players are usually very confident, they want to bully you at the time. This is why he's very prone to ganks. If you have a high damage jungler, he's dead most of the time. - His empowered W cleanses him, I try to ult him right after he uses it."
"[Grasp w/ Bone Plating, Doran's Shield, W > E] - Bone Plating is really good, Start E level 1 so she can't auto you down - Before your first back, be very careful! Take very short trades with her!! After first back, you just run over her - She always wants to use her last Q to try to get some free poke damage on you. This can be anticipated and you get to E her when she does it. You win that trade everytime - I don't recommand engaging the fight, before you get your Bami. She has too many dashes to outplay you and you can end up losing the trade or even die instead. - After you get your Bami and a few cloth armors, you can actually just run at her. All in whenever she mis steps. - However, once she gets her first item, you can't fight her anymore. She either runs away too fast or you don't have enough damage"
"[Phase Rush, Corrupting Potion, Q > W] - This is one of your worst match ups... There is literally nothing you can do against him - You max Q but he just shields it all the time... If you try to melee him, he can kite you off. - Just get away from him with Phase Rush... - Ask for jungle ganks, since he has his lane pushed in... - Truly impossible match up for malphite... Would ban if Sylas is banned by someone else."
"[Grasp w/ Bone Plating, Doran's Shield, W > E] - Sett is pretty hard but if you're really good, you can solo kill him. - The most important thing is dodging his W true damage. The center of his W does true damage, if you just walk to the left or right, you can easily dodge the true damage! It's super easy to dodge since you have Q. - E him and run if he pulls you in - If he pulls you in when he's like half HP, time to try and outplay him! Stay very close to him and walk circles around with him, try your best to dodge his W while autoing him at the same time. If you successfully dodged his W, you will either burn his flash or kill him :) - If you get even one kill on him, you can snowball! - In teamfights, position yourself away from your team! You don't want Sett to ult you into aoeing you team!"
"[Grasp w/ Bone Plating, Corrupting Potion, W > E] - Taking Grasp probably doesn't make too much sense because he can dodges autos but it's better than Comet imo (since you E max) - You also want demolish in this match up so that's why Grasp tree is needed. - You E max to slow more atk speed and to clear waves faster so once he ults, you get to demolish his turret faster. - Whenever shen wants to trade, they always want to run behind you before they do anything. DO NOT LET HIM WALK BEHIND YOU! If he can't get behind you, his blade will never pass through you! - After he's 6, and you got your first few components, you want to somewhat aggressively trading with him whenever your E is up. You want to fight him to distract him from ulting his teammates. Stop when you get too low... - You can take advantage of his slow wave clear and get a bunch of free recalls off. You can literally play really stupid sometimes, just to get the waves pushed in and recall to buy and heal. - I don't think his dash can be dodged on reaction. You have to juke it to dodge it. If you do dodge it, you do a quick trade and run away. - When he taunts you, you want to press E to slow his attack speed. - Never trade with him if his blade passed through you. His autos hurt soooo much... - THIS IS NOT A MATCH UP YOU CAN WIN, IF YOU KEEP DYING, JUST FARM SAFE AND NOT FIGHT."
"[Comet, Doran's Ring, Q > W] - Honestly I haven't played enough of this match up to make a comment. - From my experience, you just Q him and get him low enough to all in him. That's about it. - Once he gets MR, just farm... - Don't underestimate your W autos, it hurts him a lot. Definitely slap him a few times before you disengage."
"[Grasp w/ Bone Plating, Corrupting Potion, Q > W] - Sion is pretty hard but can't kill you that easily. - Try to move around a lot while trading to fuck with his knock up direction - If he ints for turret, definitely try to kill him under tower - He punishes you with his knock up when you try to farm, really annoying to deal with but try not to get hit - When he used his knock up for waveclear, this is a good time to trade with him. Try to do as much damage as possible before his spells come back up - Try not to line youself up with him, you really don't want to get hit by his slow."
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - He's really annoying but I don't think he can kill you a lot of the times in lane. - I would rush boots 2 here, you really need to dodge his pull. If you do, he doesn't have a lot of damage. - Need more experience with this lane"
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - I ban him every game because he can steal your ult and use it on your team. - But overall his laning is not too bad, just let him push, Q him, get some early MR - Always take quick trades, try to not get hit by his grab and you'll be fine - Don't let him get a kill on you... He can snowball out of control... Steal your ult and kills you repeatedly"
"[Phase Rush, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - This lane is impossible to win and you can't win any trades - Just farm as much as you can, and if he comes to trade, just phase rush away - You can go greedy and take cd runes, conditioning / overgrowth for max value - Roam a lot, look for ganks, you need to our KP him!"
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - If the teemo goes grasp..., you're in for a hard lane. I haven't figured out how to beat Grasp Teemo, he does out sustain your Q poke. - Try Doran's Shield and Second wind if you're having trouble, I think corrupting potion is also good though. - This might be an Unfavored match up but because teemos can be ganked easily and Teemo just isn't the most useful champ, you can lose lane but win the game pretty easily."
[Grasp w/ Bone Plating, Doran's Shield, E > W] - Take short Grasp trades - This lane is very similar to Tryndamere, lane phase is not hard but later on, they just split push so much - Definitely get Thornmail and FH to try to stop his split pushing.
"[Grasp w/ Bone Plating, Doran's Shield, E > W] - Start E lvl1 so he can't auto you down lvl1 - Max E, make sure you don't take extended trades - E everytime he tries to trade with you - Don't push your lane. Let him push and trade with him near your tower. - He's just a bs champ design, you can't do much to him and he can't do much to you - In teamfights, your job is to make sure your carries stay alive before he kills them!"
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - If you can dodge his dash, you'll win every trade. - To win trades, do not let him circle you! Walk with him, always facing him! If he goes up, you go up, if you goes down you go down! If you don't let him proc all his Knees, you easily win every trade! - You can try to kill him when he's poked low or slapped low but becareful with it. He can flip you over and ult you! - If he shields your Q with his dash, go up and slap him a few times if possible - After he gets his first item (most likely Black Cleaver) you really need to get out of lane phase... One dash on you and it could spell certain death..."
- [Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] Once you get lvl6 and first back. You treat her like how you would normally treat an ADC :)...
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - Take ignite and smash him - In this lane, I like to play agressive starting lvl1, you need to take control of this lane! The last thing you want is letting him Q and auto you whenever he wants under your turret! - Push him in all the time, Q him whenever possible - Avoid him when he has empowered Q, this is the only time when you shouldn't be aggressive - This allows you to recall, roam, counter jungle. Suddenly, it isn't much of a lane you need to worry about!"
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - He's not hard, let him push you in. - You can start Doran's shield and heal off his passive lightnings - Watch out for his burst, it hurts a lotttt, I would never start a trade with him - He can chunk you under tower, make sure you keep your distance! I would take MR small runes, and maybe get null mantle first back - Q him continuously of course, all in whenever he's low"
"[Comet, Corrupting Potion, Q > W] - Warwick is really hard... he heals too much! - I might try Oblivion Orb Bramble and see if it helps... - He's deceptively tanky... He could be at 100hp and bites you and ult and boom he's full HP again..."
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - Wukong is pretty easy, build armor and you should be fine. - You need some armor before you can kill him, if you don't have armor and you try to all in, he can do a lot of damage and you won't even know what hit you... - Once you have armor, Q him all the time, Then you can all in him when he's low. He'll drop his full combo on you but you can tank it. - Don't fight beside his clone!"
"[Grasp w/ Bone Plating, Doran's Shield, E > W] - Once you get bramble, start taking more aggressive trades. - You never want to max Q because that's the only skill shot he can block. - He dashes everywhere... becareful. - I think I put him Medium because Yasuo players are really confident... They have some crazy mechanics lol. Don't get outplayed!"
"[Comet, Doran's Shield, Q > W] - He's easier than Yasuo! - You'll start winning this match up once you get some HP and Armor - The most important thing is Q him AFTER he used his shield move - Still be very careful with him when you're close to him, he's Yone afterall... I would not take extended trades with him. - All in him once he's low enough"
"[Comet, Corrupting Potion, Q > W] - After lvl3 and onward, this lane just becomes harder and harder... Just farm and dodge his E skillshot so you don't get jumped by his ghosts. - You can try to trade if he missed his E, while not having a lot of graves up... - His ghouls tend to target players, so when he's under your turret, start trading and turret should start hitting him"
He's your bro
Not sure why but I love him. Probably because you enable him to do a lot of damage.
Sometimes it saves people from out ult...

Champion Build Guide
I hit Master playing only Malphite and I am the Rank 1 Malphite NA!
This guide is intended to anyone that wants to learn Malphite at a High level.
This guide alone does not guarantee that you will get a high rank but will significantly raise your chances.
Other guides about top laning and general game knowledge will help you climb as well.
My main account: the rock titan
Once in a while I get called, "dumb Malphite player" or "Must be boring being a Malphite one trick" but when you win and climb, you don't care what they say anymore!
Malphite mains are humble, they know they are bad at video games so instead of trying to see who clicks the fastest, they admit defeat and play Malphite!
This is me... a 24 year old boomer that can't compete with the 16 year old gaming prodigy at this game.
Everyone is going to tell you up front, don't worry, you're a tank, you'll be good in later on in teamfights.
That is true but you need to do a lot more than that to climb high!
1. You need to know your match ups. Know what to do vs the common match ups.
Things like Camille, Darius, Shen, Aatrox, Irelia, and Fiora you must know what to do against these Champs!
1.1 Laning and Trading
Many people think lane phase for Malphite is not important because Malphite excels in teamfights. However, this is not true for high elo.
Getting to Diamond relies heavily on properly handling your match up. There are about 50 of them and lucky for you, I made a match up guide for you :)
Getting to Master means you need to stomp or hard win your winning match ups. Exploit opponent's mistakes if you're against unfavored match ups.
Then doing all that while not dying to jungle ganks and looking for TP plays.
1.2 Against Tank Match ups
I always find it unrewarding winning lane against, Sion, Cho'Gath, Ornn and even Maokai...
First of all, you lose in all these match ups, any good Sion and Cho'Gath will win this lane easily.
Now lets say you do win against them, they made a big mistake and you get a kill on them...
The problem is, if their team is better, you're going to lose anyway because Sion and Cho'Gath is never going to be completely useless...
They are also playing hoping their team is going to carry them just like you...
So I find the best way to win the game (not your lane), is to have more Kill Participating than them.
If you helped your team thrive more than him, you'll most likely win the game.
2. By knowing your match ups, you'll need to know your lane Prios
Things like telling your jungler to start top side or push your lane to gain lane prio.
Do you win top/jg 2v2s? If not, tell your jungler to never gank top!
3. Wave control.
Know how to freeze and break freezes!
This is extremely important, I really recommand watching a video on this!
4. How to farm
A lot of the time you are going to get bullied.
Is it worth it to trade half your HP bar for 1 range minion? NO!
Only get the CS that's worth getting! Don't take too much damage trying to get 14 gold!
Sometimes, if you think you might die for a Cannon minion, you're just going to have to let it die in front of you. Don't. Be. Greedy.
5. Know what to build (Itemization)
Every game your build can be different. In my items/builds guide, I mentioned how it is very difficult to have one build fits all, or best in slot.
But in general, you should think about itemization during champ select and loading screen.
Since the Hullbreaker buff, split pushing is becoming a real issue. You'll need to match your split pusher a lot of the times.
You should strictly itemize against the split pusher. What's the point of buying MR for teamfighting when you're trying to stop a trynd for most of the game
6. Know when to ult.
Your ult is a big decision, if you're the only engage on your team, the outcome of a teamfight will depend on whether your ult is good or not.
Don't engage when none of your teammates are around. You might see a 5 man ult opportinuty but if teammate is around, control urges!
If you can't find a 5 man ult, don't be greedy! Just ult the best available target!*
Ideally you want your ult to always be on CD. Use it to roam all the time!
Don't forget to use your ult as an escape! If enemy jungler ganks top and you ult away? You've wasted his time! Hopefully your team can get Drake off that.
I find landing your ult more and more difficult now... So many dashes and jumps. It's so nuts...
So you don't always need to engage with your ult, you can use it to zone mid fight and ult when the enemy exposes weakness because they need to extend to do damage
* In high elo especially, people just know how to play against your ult, it'll be rare to find two carries stacked up on top of each other.
This is why I love comps that has one hyper carry, then I can single out who to ult. You should already be thinking about who to ult when you're on the loading screen
7. How to use Granite shield?
Get your W and E off before your Granite shield is gone!
Farm around your Granite shield! You don't want to get too low in lane!
1. Get your TEAM fed!
If you are winning topside, transfer your lead to the rest of the team (also known as... Carrying)!
Carrying means you've contributed the most toward winning the game. If you're ahead, you must carry as a tank, one way or another!
Give your kills to your jungler, give your kills to your adc. You don't need it!
1.5 Map awareness is very important! It gets your team fed!
Since you only play one champ so you know this champ inside out, look at the mini map more!
Your post 6 roams, hovers and TP plays are very strong and if used well, you can win games just with Map awareness alone!
2. Roaming and TP ganks
This topic is in my opinion, very advanced. I'm not even an expert at this, if you are, you should be a coach.
Roaming and TP comes with a lot of experience, if you were once a jungler, you have a better edge at this.
You need to be able to look at a lane state and/or a small skirmish and determine whether moving there or TPing is going to do anything.
In general, you should be greedy with your TPs, use your TP if your team can get at least one kill + burn the other guy's summoners or get an objective right after.
Many times, it's just better to use TP for yourself, back to your lane because you're playing a bad match up most of the time (or to your prio).
This is why if you use your TP and got nothing out of it, you just ****ed yourself even more. Be very greedy with your TP ganks, make sure you get a lot out of your TP
As for Roaming, you don't have much of a choice other than Mid. If they have Vlad mid, Ahri mid, you're out of luck...
With that being said, if there is a fight happening anywhere around the map but you are pushed into your turret, do you farm your wave or move to the fight?
Answer is you need to give up the farm and move to the fight or else your team loses the fight. You rather lose the wave than lose the fight!
Similar story with TP, if you're farming a wave at turret then a fight happens bot, give up the wave and TP bot immediately.
If you have lane prio and you can't gank mid, best thing to do is to get vision control in enemy team's jungle (or get free recall off if you have time)
Malphite doesn't need CS to succeed, always give up your waves to win fights! You'll have your R button whether you are farmed or not!
3. Split Pushing / Catching side waves
Split push generally when you have your TP up.
Grouping and Teamfighting is a coinflip, everyone is sharing gold and exp from one lane. Side waves are all going to waste.
However, you must realize that it is very hard for Malphite to split push because you have no escape!
If you can't split push, wave clear the side wave and look for fights!
Get infinite pinks and sweepers and get your team to help clear enemy vision so you can get a fight off
Here are some invisible lines on the map that you can't cross unless the nearby jungle is warded
3.5 Dealing with split pushers
Against any type of split pusher, your goal is to not fall behind or try to win against them in the early game, lane phase
In the early game, try to get the jungler to gank and finish the gank as quickly as possible so he can go back helping the rest of the team
That means set up your wave so when your jungler comes, it's an in and out gank!
Buy items to counter them, as mentioned in #5 in Micro
Always try to clear the wave as much as possible before they reach your turret
It's almost too hard to put this in writing, many factors can affect the out come of a teamfight.
Factors such as: itemization, vision control, item advantage, team comps are things you need to consider before hand when teamfighting
A major factor for teamfighting with Malphite is your Ult useage, please refer back to #6 in Micro
The most common form of teamfighting is a "Front to Back" style teamfight.
However, Malphite is general not a great front to back teamfighter because you offer no peel and kiting abilities for your team
Sometimes you may be forced to use your ult defensively so your Jinx can live
If you need to play for backline carries, try to go everfrost. This is great against enemy team with dive comps
The best scenario for a Malphite teamfight is an early pick on a priority target
Or you are able to find a blind spot in enemy vision and get a surprise ult off
5. Vision control
Ward more! It literally saves your life!
If your lane is pushed up to the enemy's turret, don't just walk back to lane... ward first. Chances are there is a jungler waiting for you to get back to lane...
Pinks are so important, guys literally watch your replays, sometimes you feel so stupid standing in a bush that is warded the whole time lol...
Any game knowledge is going to increase your chances of achieving a higher rank!
To make up for your lack of skill, you must have very deep game knowledge!
Generally Good to Consider
Arcane CometBest Keystone for Q max for enemies that you can poke down early game with Q
Manaflow BandMalphite is really mana hungry early game, you want to usually Q the enemy champ every time Manaflow band is off cooldown to proc it. You need to finish procing this ASAP, You'll have pretty good after you max Manaflow band.
TranscendenceNeed the CDR for your ult! Absolute Focus is not worth it!
ScorchBest for early game Q poke damage
Gathering StormIf there is a match up where you can't Q poke early game, take gathering storm, I usually take gathering storm with Phase rush
Grasp of the UndyingBest for W max or E max. Generally, take this against match up where you can get close to without getting chunked. For tank Malphite, Grasp and Resolve tree is the best to go. You can farm Grasp pretty easily with W
DemolishGood when you need to surviving and trading in the early game. Take this against anyone that looks to want to take long trades with you.
Second WindGood into surviving early game poke, against Fiora, 2nd wind is great
Bone PlatingReally good when you need to surviving and trading in the early game. Take this against anyone that looks to want to take long trades with you.
OvergrowthThe best, gives you around 450 gold worth of health, combined with Conditioning, you can get up to 1200 gold worth of value from Runes alone!
UnflinchingNeed this against heavy CC! (Anivia, TF to name a few)
Magical FootwearGood when you're starting Doran's Shield. Give you 420 gold value and faster boots later
Time Warp TonicA must if you're going Corrupting Potion. Paired with Buscuit delivery, you can gain a large amount of health and Mana instantly to catch your opponent off guard.
Cosmic InsightTP and Flash cd is really nice for sure. Magical footwear can be better if you don't need the boots early
ConditioningVery greedy, and generally games are decided before 12mins.
I'd only take this if the game is looking to scale or you're playing against some scaling tank
Ultimate HunterGenerally very greedy to go but if you want to play for your team and sac early game / lane phase, you can go Ultimate Hunter. I rarely get this rune because I think lane phase is really important
First StrikeReally good in lanes where you know for sure you'll get the first strike. I wouldn't take it if the enemy has any skillshot that can potentially land on you first
More Item Notes Above in the Items Section! Hover over "NOTES" on the top right hand corner to see!
At first, I didn't want to make a guide on items and builds. It varies too much every game... But due to popular request, I decided to try my best and make one.
Right now, I think stacking armor or MR (or any defensive stats for that matter) is not optimal.
There are too many champs that do true damage or mix damage in the game... For example, Yone, Katarina, Camille, Kraken Slayer(item) or other tank buster items...
So I think, we should build some damage or items that help us engage. I wouldn't underestimate Malphite's damage if you build damage.
Have you ever been in a situation late game where you do ZERO damage and if you didn't hit a good ult,
people can just ignore you in teamfights and walk past you and go for your carries?
Then after they kill your carries, they just turn around and kill you right after...
This is why you need to build damage.
Be flexible with your builds, I try to do my best to make this item's guide 1+1=2 but every game is different, look at the enemy team and build what's good!
Force of NatureSince Patch 12.1, get FON against heavy AP dps, cassio, karthus, anivia, or against at least 2 to 3 AP champs!
Gargoyle StoneplateGenerally good, you'll have a lot of HP at this point. Really makes sure you won't get bursted or focused down in a fight.
After Fimbulwinter or 4th item onward, you can look to tech in some items if you see fit
Are you ahead? Are you looking to do more damage? One shot squishies or be better in the late game?
Not much healing, can I build Randuins or FH instead?
Randuin's OmenRanduins against crit champs, get this 4th item if you don't need Thornmail
Frozen HeartFH against lots of auto attack champs, get this 4th item if you don't need Thornmail
Demonic EmbraceGood against High HP teams, Sion, Cho, Ornn or any bruiser comps
Also very good in the late game as a 5th or 6th item, everyone is lvl18 with a lot of Max health
ShadowflameAgainst Karma, Lulu or anybody with a lot of shields, generally if enemy team has 3+ champs with any sort of shielding
Good against squishies with small shielding
Anathema's ChainsI would build this against some single target damage Hyper Carries, something like a fed Jinx, Ryze. Champs that output consistant DPS on a single target before moving onto the next and can't ignore you.
