WHY CHOOSE SONA?
WHY SONA?

There are several reasons why you might consider choosing Sona as your League of Legends champion:

Ease of learning: Sona is often recommended for beginning players due to its relatively simple game mechanics. Its abilities are straightforward and simple to understand, making it an accessible choice for new players getting familiar with the game.

Versatility: Sona can select multiple roles in the match, including support and even damage, depending on the build and timing strategy. Her ability to heal allies, protect them with shields, and damage enemies makes her a versatile choice that can adapt to the needs of the times.

Game Impact: With her healing abilities, shields, and crowd control, Sona has a huge impact in team fights. She can help ensure the survival of her allies, disable enemies with her stun, and provide movement speed buffs to make pursuit or escape easier.

Scales with items: Sona is a champion who scales well with items, especially items that grant ability power (AP). This means that as the match progresses and you acquire more gold to purchase items, Sona becomes stronger and can make a huge impact in fights.

Constant Contribution: Even in phases of the game where other champions may struggle, Sona continues to be useful to her team. Her healing potential and general practicality ensures that she always has something valuable to offer, even if the game isn't going so well.

In short, choosing Sona as your champion can be a great option if you are looking for a versatile support that is easy to learn and capable of making a significant impact on matches, both in terms of support and damage.

how to use PASSIVE
PASSIVE ABILITY
How to Use
Sona's Passive Power Chord

Power Chord is an auto reset, so a classic combo is auto, any non-r ability, Power Chord auto
✦ when you already have Power Chord, you can't auto reset like above, but you can use it to clear or wards. For example, if you are currentonly on Power Chord, you can auto the ward, then press w , *auto reset* auto the ward, press or , and *auto reset* auto the ward again. So you can take down a normal ward in less than 0.5s. See twitch clip. This no longer work in patch 14.2.
✦ With full stacks of Accelerando, you can just use at the beginning of teamfight to kill someone or at anyone when not in teamfight for picks, it will come back up really fast

= most damage, good for poke
= exhaust, good for all ins / peel, use it on whoever does most damage; if you don't know what to use, just use this one, it's really op
= slow, good for chasing and kiting
HW TO USE Q
PASSIVE ABILITY
How to Use
Sona's Q Hymn of Valor

Hymn of Valor
targets the two enemies that are closest to Sona, adjust your position for to cs / help cs under tower
active out ranges ADC/Sup autos, you can use it to proc gold without taking enemy autos
✦ even if you hit both q on champions, only procs once, but stacks twice, for 1% ability haste
✦ hit one is good, hit two is very good
✦ auto, , auto is most damage combo
✦ do not walk too up for Power Chord autos, just q is fine, and walk back to ally to proc passive aura for extra damage
✦ Since Sona out ranges autos, what you can do is walking into someone to get into range, and then press and walk back as soon as they turns, that way their autos don't land on you

✦ Tricks on knowing max range: range indicator (toggle HUD) by TothB (I personally don't use it); go to training, get a dommy, walk around and press to see if you can manipulate the max range; play a lot of games, there's no short cuts, only muscle memory

LORE - SONA
SONA

Pros and Cons

Pros

easy to play
infinite healing and shieldings
high mobility for team
outscales most supports
reduces enemy damage (unique)
teamfight hyper carry, so games are won more easily
easy to comeback and keep lead

No other champion can consistently provide high ally healing, shields, and self healing as Sona , once you get ahead, it becomes impossible for the enemy to kill your allies. Additionally, with , your team can roam and rotate on the map a few seconds faster, and can easily chase down enemies.
Most of her abilities are auto-target, so you don't need to worry about missing them and feel overwhelmed.

Versatility: Sona is a versatile champion who can adapt to various game situations. She can play the support role, healing allies, protecting them with shields, and providing utility with her crowd control abilities.

Easy to learn: Sona is often recommended for beginning players due to its relatively simple game mechanics. Her abilities are straightforward and easy to understand, making her an accessible choice for new players getting familiar with the game.

Constant impact: Even in phases of the game where other champions may struggle, Sona continues to be useful to her team. Her healing potential and overall usefulness ensure that she always has something valuable to offer, even if the game isn't going so well.

Scales with items: Sona is a champion who scales well with items, especially items that grant ability power (AP). This means that as the match progresses and you acquire more gold to purchase items, Sona becomes stronger and can make a huge impact in fights.

Cons

laning phase is hard, since it's a 2v2
o non-r cc, so you can't punish Yuumi Nunu & Willump Rammus, or help leash scuttle
very squishy early on
need time to scale
pre level 5, abilities are weak and high mana cost
need at least 1 human on team

Since I'm introducing an utility Sona guide, it's quite coinflipping to have at least 1 player on the team that can 2v8 with you in low elo, in the worst case in scenorio. Also Sona has no cc and is very squishy, most ADC players don't want to play with her, so you will have an unpleasant chat experience.

Fragility: Sona is a very fragile champion, especially in the early game. She has low damage resistance and can be eliminated quickly if caught out of position or focused by enemies.

Positioning Dependency: As a short-range support, Sona relies heavily on proper positioning during fights. If she is out of position, she may not be able to effectively heal her allies or perform her role effectively.

Susceptibility to disablers: Sona is highly susceptible to crowd control (CC) abilities such as stuns and roots. If caught by these abilities, she may be unable to use her abilities effectively, leaving her team at a disadvantage.

Mana Management: Sona's abilities cost a significant amount of mana, especially in the early game. This means she needs to manage her mana carefully so as not to run out of resources during critical moments in the match.

In summary, Sona is a solid choice for players looking for a versatile, easy-to-learn support, but it's important to be aware of her weaknesses such as fragility and positioning dependency. With practice and awareness, however, she can be a valuable addition to any team.
RUNE

SORCERY
In summary, Aery's rune is often considered the best option for Sona due to its synergy with her playstyle, low cooldown, flexibility, and ability to increase her effectiveness as a support. However, individual preferences and personal play style can also influence the choice of rune for Sona
Improved Mana Management: Sona is a champion who relies heavily on her abilities to provide support to her team. This can result in high mana consumption, especially during the early stages of the game. The Mana Flow rune offers a significant benefit in mana management, granting a fixed amount of mana whenever you hit an enemy champion with an ability. This helps mitigate mana depletion issues and allows you to use more abilities throughout the match.
Sona significantly benefits from the reduced cooldown of her abilities, as it can allow her to utilize them more frequently during fights, thus increasing her ability to provide ongoing support to the team. Transcendence grants 10% additional CDR at level 10, and whenever you exceed the CDR cap, it turns the excess into additional AP, which is particularly useful for Sona, as she often crafts items that offer CDr.
“Gathering Storm” offers a steady buildup of ability power over time, which can be particularly beneficial for Sona, as she is a champion who scales well with ability power. This means that as the match progresses, Sona will become increasingly stronger in terms of damage and utility, which can be crucial during the fun and late stages of the game.
detailed explanation of each rune
Runes are a customization system that allows players to enhance and adapt their champions' stats and abilities to suit their individual preferences and the specific play style of each match.
Runes are divided into two main categories: primary runes (or Keystone Runes) and secondary runes.

Choosing the Aery rune as the best option for Sona is often based on several advantages this rune offers for her playstyle. Here are some reasons why Aery's rune is often considered the best choice for Sona:

Synergizes with Sona's playstyle: Aery aligns very well with Sona's playstyle, which is focused on providing ongoing support to her allies. Aery can be constantly activated by her healing and utility abilities such as Hymn of Valor and Aria of Perseverance, providing an additional shield or dealing extra damage to enemies.

Low cooldown: Aery has a relatively short cooldown, which allows her to be constantly applied to her allies or enemies whenever you use her abilities. This means you can make the most of Aery's benefits throughout the entire match.

Flexibility: Aery can be used both offensively and defensively, making her a versatile choice for Sona. It can be used to provide an additional shield to allies in danger or to deal extra damage to enemies during exchanges.

Best Synergy with Sona's Kit: Compared to other rune options such as Summon Aery, Aery is generally considered the best choice for Sona due to its ability to be constantly activated by her abilities, providing a consistent benefit throughout the match.

Increases Sona's effectiveness as a support: By providing an additional shield or dealing extra damage to allies or enemies respectively, Aery helps increase Sona's effectiveness as a support, allowing her to provide more utility and impact during fights.

In summary, Aery's rune is often considered the best option for Sona due to its synergy with her playstyle, low cooldown, flexibility, and ability to increase her effectiveness as a support. However, individual preferences and personal play style can also influence the choice of rune for Sona.

Choosing the "Manaflow Band" rune for Sona as the best rune option can be a strategic decision based on the specific needs of the player and Sona's play style. Here are some reasons why the Mana Flow rune might be a viable choice for Sona:

Improved Mana Management: Sona is a champion who relies heavily on her abilities to provide support to her team. This can result in high mana consumption, especially during the early stages of the game. The Mana Flow rune offers a significant benefit in mana management, granting a fixed amount of mana whenever you hit an enemy champion with an ability. This helps mitigate mana depletion issues and allows you to use more abilities throughout the match.

Scales with item building: The Mana Flow rune becomes even more effective as you build items that increase your total mana pool. This includes items like the "Tear of the Goddess" and the "Archangel's Staff", which directly benefit from the total amount of mana you have. Since Sona often builds items that increase her ability power (AP), these items that also offer mana fit naturally into her build, making the Mana Flow rune even more valuable.

Consistency: While other rune options may offer situational benefits such as increased damage or healing, the Mana Flow rune provides a constant and reliable benefit throughout the entire match. This can be especially useful for Sona, who excels at providing ongoing support for the team and can greatly benefit from more efficient mana management.

Laning Phase Help: During the laning phase, the Mana Flow rune can help ensure you have enough mana to continue applying pressure and harassing enemies. This can allow you to keep pressure on your lane opponent or contribute more frequently on trades with the jungler or other lanes.

However, it is important to note that the choice of rune largely depends on the player's individual playing style and personal preferences. While the Mana Flow rune can be a solid choice for improving Sona's mana management, other rune options can also be considered based on the specific needs of the match and personal play style.

Choosing the "Transcendence" rune as the best option for Sona can be justified for several reasons that align with the champion's playstyle and specific needs. Here are some reasons why the Transcendence rune might be a solid choice for Sona:

Cooldown Reduction (CDR): Sona significantly benefits from the reduced cooldown of her abilities, as it can allow her to utilize them more frequently during fights, thus increasing her ability to provide ongoing support to the team. Transcendence grants 10% additional CDR at level 10, and whenever you exceed the CDR cap, it turns the excess into additional AP, which is particularly useful for Sona, as she often crafts items that offer CDR.

Item Building Synergy: Many of the support and ability power items that are popular among Sona players also offer CDR, such as the "Ardent Censer" and the "Archangel's Staff." . Choosing the Transcendence rune naturally complements this build, allowing you to reach the CDR cap sooner and convert the excess into additional AP.

Flexibility in item building: Since Sona can build a variety of items depending on the team's needs and the tempo of the match, having the flexibility to gain additional AP through excessive CDR can be extremely valuable. This allows you to adapt your build according to match conditions while maximizing its effectiveness as ability power support.

Utility in all phases of the game: Transcendence offers benefits from the beginning of the game to the end, helping Sona have an impactful presence in all phases of the game. Her CDR boost and conversion of excess to AP can be particularly useful during the mid to late game when Sona is more likely to accumulate CDR through items.

While the Transcendence rune can be a solid choice for Sona in many situations, it is important to consider that rune selection can depend on the player's personal preferences, individual play style, and the specific needs of the team and match.
The "Gathering Storm" rune is another option that can be considered for Sona, depending on the player's personal preferences and play style. Here are some reasons why "Gathering Storm" could be a viable choice for Sona:

Ability Power Scaling: "Gathering Storm" offers a steady accumulation of ability power over time, which can be particularly beneficial for Sona, as she is a champion who scales well with ability power. This means that as the match progresses, Sona will become increasingly stronger in terms of damage and utility, which can be crucial during the mid and late stages of the game.

Compensation for late game potential: Sona is known for being strong in the late game, when she can really shine with her healing power, utility, and damage. Picking "Gathering Storm" can help boost this late game potential even further, ensuring that Sona becomes a force to be reckoned with as the match progresses into the later stages.

Consistency: Like "Transcendence", "Gathering Storm" provides a consistent benefit throughout the entire match. While other rune options may offer more situational benefits, "Gathering Storm" provides a continuous increase in ability power regardless of match conditions.

Ease of use: "Gathering Storm" requires no additional action on the player's part and activates automatically as the match progresses. This means you don't have to worry about hitting skills or taking specific actions to get the benefit of the rune, making it an easy option to use.

However, it is important to note that "Gathering Storm" mainly offers long-term benefits and may not be as impactful in the early stages of the game. Therefore, if you are looking for a more immediate advantage, other rune options such as "Transcendence" may be a better fit. The choice of rune will depend on the player's individual preferences and desired play style.
BOOTS

Ionian Boots of Lucidity : Generally good, since it reduces cold downs.
Plated Steelcaps: When 3-4 or more enemies are AD threat.
Plated Steelcaps: When the enemy team has heavy cc, such as Leona, Veigar.
Boots of Swiftness: When the enemy team has no cc, but has a lot of slows.

Sona x SORAKA

sona
VS

soraka

Soraka:
✦ Soraka
✦ Laning phase: walk straight up to her and then walk back when you feel like she is about to Q, likely to bait out her Q
✦ Your Q outranges Soraka Q , take advantage of it
✦ Buy Oblivion Orb first item, do not upgrade
✦ Do not max Q with having rank 1 W , keep in mind, you heal as much as Soraka. If you do need more Q damage, what you can do is rank Q this level, and rank W next level .
✦ Sona outscales Soraka

When playing as Sona against Soraka in the bot lane, it's important to take a strategic approach to dealing with Soraka's healing and utility. Here are some tips on how to play Soraka as Sona in lane:

Prioritize poke: Soraka is highly dependent on her healing ability to keep her ADC healthy in lane. Use your "Hymn of Valor" (Q) to deal constant damage to the enemy ADC or even Soraka herself whenever possible. This can force Soraka to spend mana on her healing abilities, putting her in a resource-depleting position.

Avoid prolonged exchanges: While Sona has decent healing potential with her "Aria of Perseverance" (W), Soraka has even more powerful healing with her "Astral Blessing" (W). Avoid prolonged exchanges that favor Soraka, as she may end up overcoming the support you can offer.

Pay attention to placements: Be aware of Soraka's and her ADC's placements to avoid being an easy target for abilities like Soraka's "Star Shine" (Q). Stay behind minions whenever possible to block their attacks and minimize the damage you and your ADC take.

Spend mana wisely: Soraka can quickly deplete her own mana trying to keep her ADC healthy in lane. Use this to your advantage, forcing Soraka to choose between healing her ADC or herself. However, be careful not to spend all of your own mana on exchanges that don't result in kills or significant advantages.

Ask for ganks from the jungler: Soraka is known for her lack of mobility and limited ability to protect herself against ganks. Ask your jungler for help to create kill opportunities and lane pressure, especially if you can reduce Soraka's mana with her constant poke.

Buy execution items: Items like "Grievous Wound" can be useful in reducing the effectiveness of Soraka's healing, as they apply healing reduction to targets you hit with your attacks.

In summary, when playing as Sona against Soraka in lane, you should prioritize constant poke, avoid prolonged exchanges, be aware of positioning, manage your mana wisely, request help from the jungler, and consider purchasing execution items to reduce effectiveness of Soraka's healing. With a strategic approach, you can neutralize Soraka's healing advantage and increase your chances of success in lane.
