Champion Build Guide
About me
It is worth noting that I have only been playing league for a year, and only peaked at Gold 1, however I have been an Ahri Main since I first started playing, and accumulated nearly 300,000 Mastery Points, while I learned the game and climbed from Iron to my peak of Gold 1 with a 60% win rate. (on Ahri)
Why Ahri
Ahri is a really easy champion to pick up, with a high skill ceiling, she can suit a variety of different playstyles and situations. She has no clear weakness and can excel at many different tasks, including split pushing, roaming, fishing for picks, laning, peeling, and team fighting. Although Ahri is good in a lot of areas she is not great at any particular one, her roams are good but worse than Talon's, she teamfights well, but not as well as Neeko, she is good at getting picks, but not as good at getting picks as Leblanc. Although Ahri has remained a viable pick for several years now she has seen very limited professional play in those years, with the removal of
Deathfire Grasp she lost her identity as an AP assassin, and is now stuck as a jack of all trades, master of none, assasin-mage hybrid (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). Still with the season 11 items update Ahri is seemingly returning to her native role of a walking delete key.

Spells
Runes

Ahri is a very reliant on her ultimate,

Secondary runes can really be anything as long as there is some amount of mana sustain.
I would not recommend using

Early Items

Even with

Other Items
Although a significant amount of Ahri's damage is true damage, she still benefits greatly from the flat magic pen granted form
Sorcerer's Shoes and
Luden's Tempest
Luden's Tempest in addition to Ahri's reworked
Fox-Fire allows for Ahri to rely less on
Spirit Rush for mobility. It also provides very good stats, and is really just the best option for when you are snowballing. You should build
Luden's Tempest as a 1st item.
Horizon Focus also further amps the damage that Ahri outputs on charmed opponents to 30%, much like Ahri's old best-friend
Deathfire Grasp. You should build
Horizon Focus as a 2nd or 3rd item.
Rabadon's Deathcap is an autobuy on any mage or AP assassin, the added 35% of AP is invaluable, however even with the amount of AP it provides, it cannot match the damage amp that
Horizon Focus provides. It also has a tricky build path, requiring you to sit on over 1000 gold 3 times. You should build
Rabadon's Deathcap as a 3rd or 4th item.
There is no real alternative to
Void Staff when the enemy is stacking magic resist, even with just
Mercury's Treads and a
Hexdrinker your damage will be substantially stunted. Although with Ahri's substantially true damage, she is less weak to enemies stacking MR than several other mages and AP assassins, still
Void Staff should be prioritized.
Void Staff should be built 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, or not at all, depending on the enemy team's magic resist levels.
Zhonya's Hourglass remains the strongest active in the game with the 2.5 seconds of invulnerability and cooldown reduction. Ahri benefits from
Zhonya's Hourglass more than many other mages, her spell rotation is incredibly quick, with a full Ahri combo taking less than half a second to pull off. This allows you to put yourself into vulnerable positions with
Spirit Rush, dump your spells and then
Zhonya's Hourglass to dodge any your enemies throw back. Using
Zhonya's Hourglass in this example also allows for time for your team to come to your aid, and also time for you to get another cast of
Spirit Rush, to dash away to safety.
Lich Bane's undodgeable damage makes it a good 5th or 6th item, however it really should only be purchased if you are super far ahead, or you have no need for a void staff.
Everfrost is not Hextech GLP-800, it has a much shorter range and has a much slower projectile speed. If someone is in range for you to use
Everfrost they are also in range to charm, meaning nearly every pick you could get with
Everfrost you could also get with
Luden's Tempest. I would only build
Everfrost if I am laning against a really slippery opponent, or am very far behind and am just a
Charm bot.

There is no real alternative to

Defensive Items
Ahri really doesn't want to build defensively, However if you are really struggling in lane picking up a
Verdant Barrier or
Seeker's Armguard isn't the worst.
Mercury's Treads
Plated Steelcaps should only really be built when you are facing heavy AD comps or AP comps respectively as you benefit greatly from the magic pen granted by
Sorcerer's Shoes.
