Threats & Synergies
Akali
Akali favoured. You win before 6, care after 6 she will 100-0 with ult. Worth buying pink scanner. Save your W for after she uses E so you get vision on her in her shroud and she can't easily escape. Also make sure to use your empowered auto at the start of the fight before she uses W then use Q's afterwards| Second Wind | D-shield - Evenshroud
Akshan
Aatrox favoured, as you can mess up his combo pretty easily. Be very careful lvl 1-3 he can 100-0 with ignite and even under tower if you take too much damage. You win after level 4 and even harder at level 6. If you land CC on him when he tries to swing away it's a free kill otherwise play safe until your next rotation. Also remember that towers and minions can block his ult | Second Wind |D-shield - [if you fall behind or you're struggling you can rush steelcaps] otherwise rush Eclipse as he does a lot of true damage
Camille
Heavy camille favoured, possibly third hardest lane after fiora. Try Q poke her while she farms at the same time staying as central to the lane as possible, save W for when she stuns you. If you can dodge her stun it's not guaranteed but will usually end in a positive trade, If she engages with W or Q, kite her shield out if you can otherwise you have to out damage her to win | I prefer second wind because she can easily pop bone plating with W before going in but you can go for it if you think you can dodge her W consistently | D-blade - Eclipse
Cassiopeia
Plays like most ranged matchups, you can try and full combo at lvl 3. At 6 if you manage to dodge her ult its usually a free kill. Just make sure to remember when you are going to be grounded during the trade, usually you can just walk up and tank through it if you aren't too far behind | Second Wind | D-shield - Evenshroud
Cho'Gath
Aatrox favoured but Cho'gath can be a surprisingly hard matchup if they know what they're doing. If he uses his abilities on the wave, harass him as much as possible. Be careful at level 6 when he gets ult. Cho hard out scales so try end early | Conditioning | Dblade - Divine
Darius
Darius can be easy or hard depending on the player. You can actually outdmg him level 1 if you hit at least one crit and fight in your wave or away from the wave completely. If he gets control sacrifice CS and let him push into you as he can 100-0 you with ghost if he catches you out at any point. Try and poke him down with E-Q1 and then if he walks at you Q2 back away. Do this a few times and you should be able to chunk him down to 70-50% health. At this point you can all in him and win. He gets a big spike at 6, but so do you so as long as you have been consistently poking him you should still win. When fighting him the main concern is dodging his Q, I find E or flash into him is best way and you should be able to out damage him from there | This is one of the only lanes where it is preferable to take ignite over TP so you can cancel out his first 1 or 2 Q's in a fight in case you don't dodge them | personal preference on bone plating or second wind (I prefer second wind as bone plating gets countered by the dot damage from his stacks) | D-blade - Eclipse
Dr. Mundo
One of easiest matchups after Mundo rework. Stand behind minions to dodge Q's try and get his passive off whenever it comes up as its free damage and you can basically all in him when the wave is in a good state if he ever dares to walk up | conditioning - MR minor runes | Dblade - executioners - divine
Fiora
Second hardest matchup after irelia but still winnable. You have to respect her at all points and be very careful after 6. Try and bait out her W and all in after that, as long as she doesn't get her full ult off you should win the fight by weaving autos and Q's even if you don't crit. She hard out scales in the 1v1 so try put her behind and win objectives/team fights to end game as early as possible. If you go even or behind in lane you will need to ask for a collapse come mid game | Second Wind (she can proc bone plating way too easily as she is very slippery) | Dshield - executioners - steel caps - Divine
Gangplank
Fairly easy matchup, you want to respect his early game until lvl 3. You also want to take just enough Q spam to deplete his mana and keep your Dshield/second wind up without losing too much health while returning poke when you can. Once you hit 3 you can all in, make sure you destroy his barrels when fighting and you will win 9/10 times | second wind | Dshield - eclipse/iceborne (he has a decent amount of true dmg so can be worth going eclipse, if they have an AD heavy team then go iceborne instead)
Garen
He only wins with ignite ult cheese at lvl 6 so be careful not to get too low early. Make sure to constantly poke to keep his passive down. You also out scale so don't feel like you have to put him behind early as he is quite strong early | Conditioning or Bone plating (Conditioning is better after lvl 6 but if you think you need it bone plating can be useful early) | Dblade - Eclipse
Gnar
Care early levels. i like to wait out his first big gnar form and try to bait out his jump. If he is small gnar form and no jump he is free kill with W, dont get caught out when he is close to transformation and watch his gank setup lvl 6 | Second Wind | Dshield - Tank mythic
Gragas
Very annoying matchup. Often just a stalemate lane because you can never kill each other. Try avoid his Q poke and stand in minions to avoid his E. If he does hit you with E spam Q and try get a combo off because he just used his escape. Be careful level 6 when he gets his ult up as he can use it under tower and for ganks | Second Wind | Dshield - Evenshroud
Graves
You don't see him much anymore but he is a lane bully, he will perma push waves into your turret and try to dive you with jg. Try to stay healthy and not to take extended trades because of his armour stacking mechanic. If you manage to get good damage on him you can run him down on next rotation | Can be worth taking ignite over TP in this matchup to counter armour on his E | Second Wind | Dshield - Steel Caps - Tank mythic
Gwen
One of the harder matchups you can get. never fight her lvl 1-3 and watch her stacks. She basically beats you at all points of the game if you're even. Never take extended trades and treat her similar to darius, where you want to poke her down until she is low enough to all in | Bone plating | Dblade - Eclipse
Heimerdinger
Really annoying lane. he will almost always have you shoved under tower and your goal is to survive. you out scale him after lane. Remember he can block your W with his turrets. If he wastes his E you can try and all in but you need to hit your crits and be careful of turrets | Second Wind | Dshield - mercs - evenshroud
Illaoi
Skill matchup. Stand behind minions and bait E if she misses you can all in 100-0 her. If she hits you its best just to run away to avoid the damage. Try not to let her get you pushed under tower as if she hits one E she can force you out of lane if she has a few tentacles set up. Even when you're ahead always respect her damage and bait her ult if you can as she will almost always have damage and healing to kill you| Second WInd | Dblade - Tank mythic
Irelia
Irelia tier. Easily biggest counter pick. Perma-ban no matter how meta she is. You fucked up if you're laning against her but try to dodge her E, never fight when her passive is up and make sure never to fight in minion waves | Bone plating | DShield - executioners - steel caps - mythic (tank or eclipse depending on team comps)
Jax
Spam Q if he jumps on you with counterstrike or you can Q1 - E - W - Q2 to avoid the follow up dmg from his W and AAs. If he misses his stun you can try and return trade. Jax hard out scales you. He gets significant power spike at 6 and BORK so watch out for those. you can try poke but that puts you in jump range so sometimes its better to try and predict when he will go for a trade and counter it with the Q - E -W backwards | Bone plating | Dblade - Tank mythic
Jayce
Try to avoid ranged poke. Look for trades if he ever swaps forms or alternatively if he goes all in try to hit your W so when he hits you away you can try to return trade and possibly go for the kill because he is very weak while his abilities are down. If you ever catch him as he switches to ranged form off guard there's not much he can do so try kill him | second wind | Dshield - tank mythic
K'Sante
Hard to kill, dangerous at 6, tanky with big mobility, try to poke him down then all in when he's low if that's even possible because he seems to have insane regen. Otherwise dodge empowered Q if possible and just try to out heal by stacking conquerer and smashing him in a fight like other tanks | second wind | Dshield - tank mythic or divine (depends on yours and enemy team comp, right now I prefer divine)
Kalista
You don't see her much these days but she has recieved some significant buffs and may make a return. She isnt too bad for aatrox, more of an annoyance. Play safe and all in at lvl 4 or even better at 6 as she doesn't have an ult | second wind | Dshield - tank mythic
Karma
Annoying. Don't see it often thankfully but you basically just never kill each other | Second Wind | Dshield - tank mythic (could try divine if she goes tank)
Kayle
Careful lvl 1 she will run you down. Poke until 3 when you can all in. Focus isn't so much killing her but zoning off CS so she can't scale. Match her in sidelane at all points of game to keep her behind. End ASAP | Second Wind | Dshield - Tank mythic (she usually goes AP, but may mix it up)
Kennen
Annoying matchup. If he ever wastes his E all in him. Care for ult at 6 but if you aren't low you can generally face tank and spam Q's with your ult and kill him. A good kennen can be hard to deal with so avoid as much poke as possible. Also watch for ultimate gank setup | Second Wind | Dshield -evenshroud
Kled
You can win lvl 1 if you play it right, if he goes for a trade try dodge his Q, even if you don't trade through it as you will often come out on top because of how bad he is atm. Never let him stay mounted if he has less than 25% HP as he can get another rotation of spells up before dismounting. If you dismount him disengage if possible until your next spell rotation so that you have enough damage to kill him before he remounts | Second Wind | Dblade - tank mythic
Lee Sin
Rarely seen since he got nerfed but annoying to deal with. Try dodge Q and careful at 6 for gank setup, he has a surprising amount of healing so watch out for that but you can generally all in him if he misses Q | Second Wind | Dshield - Tank mythic
Lillia
you don''t see it much now that her tank build is dead, but if she is low on passive and you catch her out you can 100-0 her easily as she is very squishy. Try not to let her chunk you down | second wind | Dshield - Eclipse
Malphite
You can only kill him before his first back then you barely tickle him. Best to focus other parts of the map and end the game as early as possible | Second wind | Dshield - Divine
Maokai
Don't see him much anymore since he got relegated to a support/jungler. If you do he is extremely easy matchup just fuck him up and you win | Second Wind | Dblade - Divine
Mordekaiser
You win before 6 then he outscales you at steelcaps and bramble. Never be in melee range he will win. If he wastes his Q or E give him a rotation until he is low enough to all in. Never use your R first as he will gain extra stats from you and you can use the movement speed to get away from him | Bone plating | Dblade - Evenshroud
Nasus
You win early but be careful at lvl 6 he gets a big spike and can run you down. Treat him like kayle where your main goal is to keep him behind and end the game, your best bet is to freeze the wave on your side of the map and zone him away | conditioning (you can go legend tenacity and take an attack speed shard if you feel you need it, his wither can be incredibly annoyoing so the 2x tenacity can be useful) | Dblade - BC always first - tank item
Olaf
You have a chance before lvl 6, if he misses a Q all in him. Never be in melee and careful after 6 because his ult counters your kit | second wind | Dblade - eclipse or tank depending on yours/enemy team comp
Ornn
His lvl 6 combo can 100-0 or provide a good gank setup so be careful. E as soon as he pillars to avoid knockup and walk up when you hit a W because he will use unstoppable animation, only the last part of ornns W animation applies brittle so if you can react quick enough you can duke it. He hard outscales so end the game early | Second wind | Dshield - Divine
Pantheon
Poke him down never go in an extended trade he will win. If you go even you will outscale so play safe early. You can cancel his jump by E - Q1/Q2 backwards but you have to be quick at which point you should win the trade. If he ever wastes E you can all. You also win at 6 if you havent gotten too low | Second wind | Dshield - steelcaps - (executioners if they have other healers) - tank mythic
Poppy
Poke her down. She can't do much about it and stay away from walls. If she goes in on you save your dash until her W is done and make sure to avoid the second part of her Q, then you should be able to win the trade. She outscales you at BC/bramble so watch out for that | Second wind | Dblade - Divine
Quinn
Be careful of her early levels. Poke level 2 and you can all in level 3. Q - W when she E's and it will cancel and suck her in. Should be easy matchup from 4 onwards |second wind | dshield - tank mythic
Renekton
Always keep your distance from him and the wave. If he ever wastes E you can try all in him. Be very careful at 6 as he is much stronger than you. Just try and poke him out during lane and outscale him later | Bone plating | Dblade - executioner - tank mythic
Rengar
Annoying lane. Avoid fighting near bushes and if he ever wastes his empowered abilities on the wave try and all in him before he can get to a bush. Always be careful as he can have an insane amount of healing | Bone plating | Dblade - tank mythic
Riven
hard matchup. Much like renekton distance yourself and play around her abilities. She basically has no cooldowns and if you play it right you can Q1 E W Q2 Q3 away or towards her if you catch her out. Never chase her too far as she can easily turn on you and she can easily 100-0 you with ignite at 6 if you aren't careful. She also outscales you pretty hard so your best windows to fight her will be between lvls 3-5 and 8-10 | Bone plating or second wind (i prefer second wind as i find she can easily proc bone plating and get out, then do it all again in less than 5 seconds) | Dblade - executioners - tank mythic
Rumble
Don't see him often but he is annoying for melee. Save your E to escape his Q or dodge his E and try fight him when his resource bar is near the top so that he overheats quickly. Play safe until lvl 4/5 then you can usually beat him | Dshield - evenshroud
Ryze
Don't see him top much but not a hard matchup. Stay away from minions so he doesn't give you ligma and try all in him before he can proc phase rush. His point and click roots are really annoying but he doesn't do much damage early so take the opportunity to beat him when you can. You should get a major advantage at level 6 as well. He hard outscales so try end the game early | second wind | Dshield - evenshroud
Sett
Easier matchup for aatrox. Simply poke him until he is low enough to all in. Basically an easier version of darius but dont fight him melee basically ever unless he is low enough from poke and be very careful before level 3 as he will run you down. A good tip is to save your E for his W so you can quickly dash through him and avoid the damage at which point you should win the trade. If he hits his E try and kite away until you can land Q - W and get away. He will beat you in melee range so spacing is important in fights | Bone plating | Dblade - Eclipse
Shen
Shen wins pre-6 at which point you stomp him. If he gets in front can be a problem. He can 100-0 with ignite between lvl 1-3 so be careful. If you auto through his W if your Q is down it gives conq stacks (unless its been patched). But try to save Q for his W. If he uses Q for farm try all in him and if he hits an E on you kite away and try return trade when you have spaced enough | bone plating | Dblade - Divine
Sion
Easiest matchup for aatrox. Your entire kit cancels his. Cancel all of his Qs and then just beat him. If he ults down lane try to block it if possible. If your not in a position to cancel his Q try to dash out and be careful of his ult-Q setup. He does scale very hard so try to end the game early | Second Wind (armour small rune) | Dblade - Divine
Singed
Free lane. Have your jg covered at the start of the game in case he tries to proxy. If he makes the poor decision of staying in lane just combo him on cooldown, if you think he is about to throw you Q behind you and it will hit him. Only way he kills you is if you chase too hard | Second Wind | Dshield - Evenshroud
Sylas
Careful for his early damage. Dodge his E2 and you should win the trade. He has a lot of healing especially when he steals your ult so be careful | second wind | Dblade - Executioners - (Merc treads depending on enemy team) - Evenshroud
Tahm Kench
Even though his top got gutted he is still a threat in lane. You can beat him in the early levels if you dont get hit by his Q and at 6 you win even if you get eaten if you don't get stunned. If he does hit his Q tho he can still kill you so be careful of that and stand behind minions in lane. If he misses Q or uses it on the wave you can use that as a trade opportunity | Second wind | Dshield - (executioners if you need it, if you didn't fall behind you can usually do ok without it) - divine
Teemo
One of the easiest matchups. Wait for lvl 3 then all in him and you can 100-0 if you catch him in your W. Always walk up because of his W movement speed if you hit W. If you play it right you should have killed or gotten him low enough to either force base or all in again and kill. Should be able to all in him on cooldown after that in lane. Could be worth a pink ward at 6 so you can see where the mushrooms are during a trade | Second wind | Dshield - Evenshroud
Tryndamere
Very annoying champ. Be careful early levels as soon as you walk up he will E through you and run you down with ghost. Try to avoid melee fights with him and be careful not to be caught out at 6. Best thing to do past 6 is to poke him and force his ult out then fight him when its down. Also try to freeze the wave close to your side of the map so he doesn't have the opportunity to run you down | bone plating | Dblade - steelcaps - tank mythic
Urgot
Careful for lvl 1 W cheese he will kill you. Much like Illaoi if he misses his E hes a free kill. You can bait it out by walking up and dashing back when the animation for his dash starts. You beat him in lane but end early as he hard outscales you. You can only cancel his dash with Q only when he is moving not during the windup animation | Second WInd | Dshield - Steelcaps - Tank mythic
Vayne
If she gets in front she will stomp so make sure that doesnt happen by playing safe until lvl 4. Sacrifice minions and wait until shes Qs into you then you can all in her and if she has already wasted E you can kill her. If you get a kill or chunk on her try freeze the wave and keep her behind because she scales hard | second wind | Dshield - steelcaps - eclipse
Volibear
As long as you kite him you win. Your Q puts his Q on a reduced cooldown so E Q whenever he runs at you. All in him when you have him low enough. | second wind (MR shard) | Dblade - executioner - tank mythic
Vladimir
Rare but on occasion can be seen top. You basically win all lane and he can still get sucked by your W in his pool so save Q3 | Second wind | Dshield - executioner - evenshroud
Warwick
Respect his dmg and ability to heal. He will never die when you think he does plus he runs the disgusting barrier rune. Never been in melee and dont Q3 he will heal through it or Q behind you and you die. Never chase him after a rotation and try to keep him low until you can all in, always rememnber he has barrier | you can take ignite in this lane over TP as this dogs healing is insane | bone plating | Dblade - executioners - tank mythic
Wukong
His kit counters AD champs so be very careful. Only fight with all abilities up and W when he E's to keep track of him. You can also heal off his clone | bone plating | Dblade - executioners - steelcaps - tank mythic
Yasuo
Try not to fight in minion wave. Q behind you whem he E's through you and shouldnt be too much trouble. He outscales at zerks and 1 item so be careful | second wind | Dblade - tank mythic
Yone
Strong contender for Major, can be a major threat if they are a good yone. Never W when he E's wait for him to use it then run him down, E-Q and kite away when he E's. Poke him until he is low enough to all in and be very careful of his CC chain at 6. You can side step his Q3 if you have good reactions and you can generally win trades when that happens. he can also dodge your abilities using E so be careful of that but when its down is when he is most vulnerable. Be careful early lvls as he will run you down with LT | second wind | Dshield - executioners - steelcaps - eclipse
Yorick
More annoying than anything. Save your E to escape his cage if you are close or dodge his Q if you can. He can force you out of lane very easily with 1 or 2 E's so try not to get hit. If he does try to run away. Try to poke him down in between his E's and all in him when he is low. You can also try when he misses his E as thats his main source of damage. One really good tip to remember is AAtrox ult fears minions and pets including Yorick's so if you aren't too low you can often catch him by surprise and fear all of his ghouls and turn the fight on him if you play it right. Its more safe simply to dodge the E but sometimes that mechanic can save you | second wind | Dblade - tank mythic
