Haven't VS'd him yet. Ofc, get Bramble Vest first item. I'd guess he can compete well with you.
Lethal Tempo with Stride and rush BoRK. Get Bramble Early and use W to dodge his Q if you are near minions.
Akali
Your shield blocks early combos from her like E1-Q-E2. Real problems start when she starts dashing like hell at Lvl 6. Deals insane damage and is hard to block. If you're ever winning she just leaves.
Also, her W is a straight up HUGE counter to your passive. She's a three stacks? She presses W and now you cant auto to stun her, and she can wait out the stacks.
Grasp. Frostfire.
Aphelios
Although ranged threats are hard for Braum to deal with, Aphelios's low mobility makes him quite fair against Braum. Your shield blocks his high poke combo on Calibrum. HoB could be good here. BoRK first item.
Camille
Although she runs Divine and has true damage in her kit, I always go BoRK rush into Goredrinker into either thornmail or Fimbulwinter. Go Grasp against her to counter trades and try to predict her Q true damage proc with your E. Late game you have to play very very well to counter her.
Cho'Gath
If you're good at dodging his E, Cho'Gath can be an easy target for Braum to take out. Your E should block his R if you time it right. His mixed damage makes your W quite good. Your poke is faster and higher damage than his unless its AP cho. Only problem is how much he scales. He will always catch up to you. Go Lethal Tempo. Go Divine, BoRK, or Frostfire.
Darius
Darius is a major threat for a lot of top laners. Braum is a little different as he can block early combos from Darius like E-W-Q and block his R if you time it right. Still, his bleed and sustain is annoying. Buy Bramble into BoRK or Frostfire. Grasp.
Dr. Mundo
Some of the highest lane sustain in the game. High damage against beefy champions like Braum. You can only block his Q, which will still slow. His passive destroys your passive AND your R engage. Grasp. Divine + BoRK. Go Bramble eventually.
Draven
INSANE THREAT. Draven is already a major counter to Braum in the botlane with his insane damage, high speed, and high snowball prowess. Take HoB and HOPE. That or take Aery. Tank items. Ban or give up. Let him CS if you have to and hope that your team can take care of him later in the game.
Fiora
High mobility, high sustain. Hard for Braum to VS, especially as your shield is such a long cooldown while her dash is stupid short. Buy Bramble early, Grasp for Runes, and Frostfire or Goredrinker. Your stun is so predictable that her W will always stun.
Gangplank
Insane scaling with his delayed crit build. High poke in lane and insane 1v1 damage. He will bully you. You can take Aery if you want to let him push in for a gank or HoB if you wanna have high pressure. Make sure to poke him with Q a lot more as its longer range. Block his Q with your E if it's safe and okay to do so. After 6, you win if you're engaging. Q onto him, stun, and he will orange. Ultimate and he dies. Go Divine and BoRK or full tank Frostfire.
Gnar
Gnar is annoying to deal with as any laner. Baby Gnar can poke well with Q and deal decent damage too. Block his Q with your E when he isn't close to rage. Deleting it makes it harder for him to spam it. In rage, you need to block his E-Q-W combo with your shield to reduce the combo. Run Lethal Tempo BoRK. You can also go Conq Stridebreaker to counter his passive speed. Go Grasp if you need to sustain more than kill him.
Graves
Haven't VS'd. Probably a great threat. Instant mobility which is hard to follow up on. High damage too. Use your E at lvl 6 to delete his R. Use Q at Lvl 6 to bait out his E and use R to engage as your only way to VS him. Run a rune page with approaching velocity. Grasp is nice, but HoB can work too. If going HoB, go BoRK. If grasp, go Frostfire or Stridebreaker.
Gwen
A huge threat. Instant dash against your engage tools. High MAGIC damage. Omnivamp too. TRUE DAMAGE. W against your R too. Go force of nature into Bramble if they have some AD damage on the enemy team. Go Chempunk if you really need anti-heal against an majority AP team. HoB to trade and stop her from chasing you over and over. Grasp if you wanna keep fighting. Go BoRK or Frostfire. Make sure to use your E against her R and Q.
Heimerdinger
Heim is just annoying. Build Force of Nature at least some point in the game. Run the Aery runes to poke him and his towers out. Frostfire to counter his turret MS.
Illaoi
Illaoi is high sustain, unga bunga bonk bonk fighting style. She has 10 angles she can hit you from with her tentacles, so your shield is mainly used against her empowered auto attack. Buy bramble early. Go Grasp.
Irelia
High damage, low burst for your shield to delete, high mobility, insane scaling. Irelia is ban worthy. If you can dodge her stuns well, take HoB to counter stun her. Otherwise, take Grasp to make trades more fair. Her engage is completely destroyed is she is stunned midway. Capitalize on her Q mistakes. Take BoRK or Goredrinker.
Jarvan IV
Never VS'd top lane. High burst, good trading power. Make sure to poke well I assume. Take Lethal, Conq or Grasp. Go Sunfire or Goredrinker.
Jax
Jax can be quite bad if he is good. If he stuffs up by jumping and then getting his stun ready, use your E to kite out of the circle. His damage is easily blocked by your E. His ward hopping can be annoying, but your Q helps with closing the gap. Go Lethal or Grasp. Stridebreaker.
Jayce
Jayce has high poke and high trading power. His jump bonk combo is easy to break with your E. HoB to counter engage his engage and punish his sloppy poke. Take it safe though. Frostfire, Stridebreaker.
Kayle
Take HoB and punish every time you hit your Q. Make sure she can't farm early levels and hope she can't sale well. Take BoRK for counter scaling and synergy. Take Divine or Stridebreaker.
Kennen
Go Second Wind, and play around with Doran's Shield. Go Frostfire as your mythic, go Grasp.
Kled
Kled deals high damage and has high health. Good luck killing him with his mobility too. Your E can tank his autos but he can also maneuver around you. Take grasp for some trading potential and Lethal is you're sure you can match his pressure. Take Frostfire, BoRK or Sunfire.
Lee Sin
Most Lee Sin's are cocky. I've played at least 500 games of jungle on Ivern to know that. Yet, don't underestimate him damage. His combos can destroy you and your team. Take Grasp for more survivability or HoB for punish. Take Goredrinker or Sunfire.
Lillia
Fast and furious. Never VS'd. Force of Nature is excellent. You might be able to do your Q + HoB build if you can hit a Q on her. Insane wash push so be wary of her roams. DoT is a pain. Take Frostfire.
Malphite
His Q is so spammable, so it's risky to use your E against it. At Lvl 6, you need to block his R with your E to have a chance at winning. Use Q to poke down his shield. Your mixed damage can be hard for him to VS. Divine or Stridebreaker. Lethal Tempo, Aery, or Grasp.
Mordekaiser
Use your E to block him Q. He will take your armor at lvl 6. So try and let him use it before proccing your passive to buy some extra time in his R. But still, this might get you killed. Poke him down and play it safe. Quicksilver Sash is a must. Take HoB for early pressure, or Grasp. Frostfire, Sunfire, or Goredrinker.
Nasus
Highest scaling top laner. Deals insane damage as his E procs your shield as soon as you bring it up, making it hard to block his Q. His slow is too much and your Q slow can't compete. Take Grasp or Lethal Tempo. Get anti-heal early. Going tank is great, but BoRK is a also a great item against him. Go Swiftness Boots.
Ornn
High scaling. tank buster of a tank. High CC too. Take Grasp to match him or HoB to punish early. Use E to block the CC portions of Q-E-W-AA. DELETE HIS R WITH YOUR E. Save your E for it or else you die at Lvl 6. If you can do that, you might be able to actually win lvl 6. Take Divine and BoRK.
Poppy
Decent mobility and hard engage. Block her dash and Q with your E as that can deal a lot of damage, even early game. Take Grasp or Lethal Tempo. Stridebreaker, Goredrinker, Divine, or Frostfire.
Renekton
I assume Renekton destroys Braum. Ban maybe?
Rengar
His JumpAA-E-Q-W combo is blocked by your E and your Q stops him from going back in his stinky bush. Build Bramble for armor and sustain block. Take Grasp or HoB to punish or sustain. Go Frostfire to slow him, BoRK or Stridebreaker.
Riven
Insane mobility and damage. Use your E to block as much of her combos as possible. Q to poke but she will just Q sideways anyways. At Lvl 6, use R to disengage or punish and use your E against her R2. Go HoB to punish her and create distance or block her exit. Take Grasp to trade. Go BoRK, Goredrinker, Frostfire or Sunfire.
Sett
His E-Q-AA-AA-AA-AA...-W combo is a pain. Play fights slow with Grasp or HoB to make more time. Use E to block his E-Q combo and if you are still fighting, try and use bushes to slow down the fight. Once he uses his W block with E, especially during teamfights. Divine and BoRK if he is going Goredrinker. Frostfire if its stridebreaker.
Shen
A big threat. Good engages, good damage as he has max health damage, and INSANE map pressure. When you know he will dash, shield behind you and he might just use all 3 autos on your shield. When he taunts you, it'll just stack your passive, so it'd be funny to run HoB and have him proc it for you. Take Grasp if you wanna just be a good trade champion. BoRK for his tankiness, Frostfire is good too. Divine is also nice.
Singed
Insanely slow fights with Singed. Likes to hang out between your inhib turret and your second turret to get minions. Can't chase him because of his DoT. Your shield does nothing against it. Get Force of Nature and Frostfire if you wanna slow him down. Use Approach Velocity runes. Take Grasp for trades and Conq for late game scaling.
Sion
High health scaling, but his R and Q are blocked by your E well. Use them against them and you will have a good chance at fights. Go Grasp. Divine. BoRK is also really good.
Watch out for his endless sidepushes and use R to stop his Q channel.
Tahm Kench
Kench Bench is an annoying tank to deal with. High sustain with his black health and deals high damage with R and Q. Stuns like you too. Take Grasp or Lethal Tempo. Block his Q with your E, as you can't block anything else really. Go Divine or BoRK.
Teemo
Annoying rat of a champion. Take Grasp and run second wind, doran's shield and unflinching to reduce blind duration. Stride, BoRK or Frostfire are great items as they reduce his speed from his W. Go Merc treads. Get oracle lvl 6
Trundle
High damage, high sustain, CC master. Use E to block his chomp and hope you can make it out alive. Ban worthy. Take Grasp. BoRK for sustain, goredrinker is also good. Get Frozen Heart and/or Plated Steelcaps.
Tryndamere
Run Frozen Heart/Randuins, get Plated Steelcaps, Bramble Vest is optional early. Get Stridebreaker or Frostfire, hybrid tank(Both HP and Resist's) is a great choice. Go Grasp.
Urgot
His damage is good, and his waveclear is absurd with cleaver. Pre 6, block his E autos with a well angled shield. After 6, use E to block his R damage. It'll still mark you pretty sure, but the damage is blocked and that might save you. Go HoB to break his CC chain or Lethal Tempo to challenge him after his damage. Grasp for trading is good too. Take Divine or Frostfire. BoRK and Titanic is good too. Titanic for the waveclear.
Vayne
Annoying. Lots of dashes and max health true damage is annoying. Anathema's is good as it lowers all damage she does. Block her third shot with your E as this will block 1. The auto 2. The passive true damage 3. PTA, assuming she has it. Run HoB if you're confident in your Q aim even with her dashes. Otherwise take Aery or Grasp. Stridebreaker or Frostfire.
Edit: Just ban her. Counters the hell out of you. She runs Lethal Now too so her uptime is higher. Ban Ban. Might be a better ban than Tryndamere.
Viego
Low-ish damage unless he has Kraken or Divine damage build. Poke using Q early. Use E to block his Q + AA's damage. Post 6, use E to block his execute where doable. Run Grasp or HoB. Frostfire, Frozen Heart, Stridebreaker.
Volibear
Pre 6 he can be formidable. Use your E to block his empowered W or Q auto. Make sure to slow him if he tries to engage with Q and wait it out preferably before engaging. Post 6 block his R damage with your E and use your R to make distance between you and him. Grasp. Stridebreaker, Frostfire, or Divine. BoRK is also nice against tank.
Warwick
High sustain and okayish damage. Buy bramble and it becomes a fair fight. Pre 6 use E to block his Q and make sure to E-W before his howl. Post 6 make sure to block his R damage with shield. Run Lethal Tempo or HoB. Go Divine or Frostfire. Thornmail necessary.
Wukong
Never VS'd as Braum top. Annoying I'd assume. E to block his empowered auto and use Lethal Tempo.
Yorick
Yorick is a wavepushing, tower destroying champion. It's not you that he will be killing, its all 11 of your towers. Since he builds Hullbreaker, it breaks apart your entire gameplan of mixed damage. Go Grasp for trading potential and make sure to use E against his Q and build some sort of AS for his goblins. Stride is okay, BoRK is good. He will win if he is left alone, Hullbreaker to counter his hullbreaker is a good idea.
Yone
Pretty bad matchup. Use E to block as many autos as possible, and make sure to block Q3 projectile when Jungler ganks your lane. You can take trades against him if you play well, and you can kill him if you outplay. Build Frozen Heart after mythic, run Grasp.
Cassiopeia
Cass top is disgusting. Take Frostfire and play with Q to get CS. Run Second Wind and Doran's Shield. Go Grasp with Frostfire and Force of Nature.
Garen
A fun matchup, not gonna lie. Play around good poke, and use W and E before his silence to limit his E damage. Blocking his R after 6 with E is hard, but can be reason you live.
Kindred
One of the best junglers with Braum Top. Just play around their marks and try to manage your wave better than opponent to make sure you're there for them.
Bel'Veth
Instant Stun on Gank. Damage Reduction everywhere.
Karthus
Wants to die. You try to keep people alive. He uses 90% spells, you want 90% auto attacks. Not very good.

Hey! I am BreadedBreadCrumb and this guide is to provide a starting point and main ideas behind Braum top lane.
I one trick Ivern with over 400k Mastery on the OCE servers, being top 10. My secondary main is Braum, and I enjoy playing him both top lane and support.
Braum wants a lot of different things. He wants to be health heavy because of his Winter's Bite scaling, but also loves armor and magic resist as his Stand Behind Me buffs himself to insane levels if he has high resistances. Braum also loves attack speed as it lets him activate his stun quickly and also deal high amounts of consistent mixed auto damage through his passive, Concussive Blows. Subsequently, Braum loves omnivamp, as it provides him with extra sustain with his passive autos and Q's. Simultaneously, Braum also loves attack damage as it makes him very good at dueling. Braum also NEEDS wave clear, so AD helps make wave clearing easier. Braum also loves poking with Winter's Bite, but this makes him quite a mana-hungry champion.
As you can see, Braum loves every stat except AP and Lethality. That being said, no runes or keystone can truly give Braum everything he needs to fulfill his bruiser/tank dream.

This is my favourite rune page to go a majority of the time as it gives Braum a lot of good stats and scaling potential. I recommend going Conditioning a lot unless you're vsing a heavy dive champion top like Renekton or Irelia who can bypass your slows with their dashes.
The Domination secondary is a very good page to provide solo-laning sustain, which Braum lacks. Precision is great for vsing lockdown with Legend: Tenacity. If you're going a DPS/Bruiser build, go Presence of Mind to prevent lower mana usage. If you're going a tank build, building tear is mandatory for Fimbulwinter, so Triumph is better for fights.
Go the Inspiration runes against sidepushers/waveclearers like Sion. Go Hullbreaker to challenge them.
I'm working on putting all my thoughts on each keystone and rune soon. A recent bug made everything in this guide get deleted so, I decided to refurbish everything. It might take some time, but I promise it'll be finished soon! I work pretty fast with anything I'm passionate about.
Side Note: Hullbreaker Build
With how secluded top lane has gotten, and the sudden surge of Hullbreaker, like a virus, I actually have found some good success with this dumb item on Braum.
Going Grasp of the Undying is usually the best option for Braum, as it provides scaling and anti-tank while being a good tool for side-laning with Demolish.
As for secondaries, I'll still have to find out, but Domination has done good for me, but I've yet to try Inspiration. Trinity Force is great against turrets. Blade of the Ruined King most of the time as a third item.
