Pros and Cons

PROS
+ blindable every game
+ works well with meta junglers
+ game-winning ultimate
+ low ban rate
+ useful when behind because of her shield

Orianna is one of the strongest control mages to Main, you can blind pick her every single game and she is almost never banned letting you practice her all the time.
CONS
- very mana-hungry early
- extremely squishy before level 3 E
- very easy to gank early
- gets outranged certain champions
- relies on hitting skillshots

Orianna struggles early due to high mana costs and low base durability. Missing or makes trades inconsistent, and without careful spacing, she can be punished by longer-range champions or early jungle pressure.
Abilities
Orianna, the Lady of Clockwork

PASSIVE ABILITY

Clockwork Windup
Orianna's basic attacks deal bonus magic damage. Attacking the same target increases the bonus damage up to a cap (based on level). Switching targets resets the bonus.

Q

Command: Attack
Range: 825
Cooldown: 6 / 5.25 / 4.5 / 3.75 / 3
Cost: 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50

Active: Orianna commands the Ball to fly to a target location, dealing magic damage to enemies it passes through. The Ball remains at the destination.

How to Use
Use Q to reposition the Ball constantly for threat and zoning.
Use to check brushes for vision acts as a ward.
Always pre-place the Ball before a fight begins.
Q → W is Orianna’s main poke combo.

W

Command: Dissonance
Radius: 225
Cooldown: 7
Cost: 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110

Active: Orianna releases a pulse of energy from the Ball, dealing magic damage, speeding allies, and slowing enemies.

How to Use
Q → W is your core poke and waveclear combo.
Use W speed boost to dodge ganks or kite.
Use W slow to peel for your ADC.

E

Command: Protect
Range: 1100
Cooldown: 9
Cost: 60

Active: Orianna shields an ally and commands the Ball to attach to them, damaging enemies it passes through.

How to Use
Use E on frontline initiators before they engage.
E → W → R is Orianna’s classic engage combo.
Reposition the Ball safely by shielding carries.

R

Command: Shockwave
Radius: 325
Cooldown: 110 / 95 / 80
Cost: 100

Active: Orianna unleashes a shockwave that pulls all enemies toward the Ball, dealing magic damage.

How to Use
Flash → R can win fights instantly.
Hide the Ball on allies with E for surprise engages.
Use after your team’s engage for maximum impact.
Runes
PRIMARY RUNE
-

SORCERY

Stormraider's Surge: Best keystone on Orianna. Gives instant speed to reposition after Q–W-E/Autoattack trades, dodge engages, and escape ganks.
Summon Aery: Optional poke/shield page, but weaker than Stormraider's Surge in high-threat games.
Arcane Comet: Decent vs Long range champs like Xerath, Syndra where you are mostly gonna W poke.

Manaflow Band: Mandatory on Orianna. Her mana is extremely limited early, and this allows consistent Q–W trading.

Transcendence: Best option. Ability haste = more Ball movement, more shields, more Q–W cycles and more R's
Celerity: Helps with dodging, kiting, and repositioning. Very strong into skillshot mids.

Scorch: Best for lane pressure and early trading.
Gathering Storm: Scaling option for late-game teamfight focus.

SECONDARY RUNE
-

PRECISION

Legend: Haste: Perfect synergy on Orianna. More ability haste = more Ball control and more DPS in teamfights.

Cut Down: Very good poke rune helps a lot in laning phae and scales to late

ALTERNATE SECONDARY (RESOLVE)
-

RESOLVE

Bone Plating: Best vs all-in melee mids/junglers (Sylas, Irelia, Akali). Helps you survive their initial burst.
Second Wind: Take this vs heavy poke (Viktor, Ziggs). Helps you sustain through early chip damage.

Overgrowth: Extra HP scaling for teamfights and survivability into burst champions.

FLAT STATS RUNE
-

Attack Speed: Helps with last-hitting and weaving autos between Q–W trades.
Adaptive Force: Extra AP for stronger poke and mid-laning pressure.
Flat Health: Best defensive option for surviving early burst or jungle pressure.
Summoner Spells

SUMMONER SPELLS
-
FLASH: is mandatory on almost all champions, go it every game don't ever change.
TELEPORT: is Orianna’s best summoner spell in almost every game. It gives safe recalls, lets you fix bad waves, prevents you from losing tempo, and allows fast map plays. Orianna scales well, and Teleport helps you reach items and mid-game spikes much faster.
CLEANSE: Take only in specific matchups such as vs Zoe or Lissandra, where one CC ability can lose you the entire lane. It’s also strong vs heavy CC teams. However, Teleport is still usually better overall unless the CC is unavoidable.
Builds

CORE ITEMS
-
Rod of Ages: Core first mythic on Tank Orianna. Gives HP, mana, and AP with strong scaling and makes you harder to burst. Rush early so it stacks quickly while you farm safely.
Ionian Boots of Lucidity: Core boots. Summoner spell haste + ability haste gives lower cooldown on Teleport/Flash and more spell spam in fights. Best default boots.
Seraph's Embrace: Buy early. Huge mana pool, AP conversion, and a lifesaving shield. Synergizes perfectly with Rod of Ages for “Tank Ori” durability + DPS.
Liandry's Torment: Great synergy with Orianna’s damage pattern. The Ball constantly reapplies burn and %HP damage in long fights. Standard for tank shred and consistent DPS.
Zhonya's Hourglass: The best defensive option vs assassins/dive champs like Zed, Nocturne, Jarvan IV, Kayn. Also lets you safely Flash → Shockwave engage.
Banshee's Veil: Strong vs heavy AP or dangerous CC (e.g., Ahri, Veigar, Lissandra). Lets you walk up to place ball safely without getting instantly CC’d.
Cryptbloom: Excellent mid/late utility item. Gives magic pen, AP, and teamwide healing after takedowns. Great in extended fights, shielding comps, or AP-heavy enemy teams.

OPTIONAL ITEMS / ALT BUILDS
-
ALT BUILD 1 – Seraph’s Burst/Poke: Go this if you don't like RoA or faster game. Seraph’s → Liandry’s / Horizon Focus → Zhonya/Banshee/Cryptbloom
ALT BUILD 2 – Blackfire Torch: Go when you want to end very early or don't ever need defensive. Go Blackfire → Horizon Focus / Liandry’s → Cryptobloom
Horizon Focus: Insane synergy with Orianna’s long-range Q + R. Great in the Seraph’s alt build when ahead and looking to burst.
Zhonya's Hourglass: Standard dive protection tool.
Banshee's Veil: Best into high priority AP threats or pick comps.
Cryptbloom: Teamfight utility & pen.
Rabadon's Deathcap: Massive late AP spike.
Void Staff: Buy when enemies stack MR.
Morellonomicon: Anti-heal vs sustain champs.
Mejai's Soulstealer / Dark Seal: Buy Dark Seal early if you expect stacks. Upgrade to Mejai’s only when snowballing.

BOOTS
-
Ionian Boots of Lucidity: Best default boots. Flash/TP uptime + low cooldown spells is too strong to pass up.
Mercury's Treads: Best vs CC-heavy AP teams.
Plated Steelcaps: optional usually not worth it, best vs 3–4 AD champs.
Boots of Swiftness: Usully not worth it just optional, for heavy slows & low CC comps.
Laning Phase
✦ You're generally going to play the laning phase in two different ways depending on the champion

Against all-in champions such as Irelia Akshan Fizz Yasuo and other melee dive threats, you should avoid touching the wave early. Only last-hit with your Q , and try to maintain a freeze right outside your turret. This forces them to overextend and makes their all-ins much harder to execute.

Against easier ranged matchups, shove the first wave and get prio. Reaching level 2 first lets you place an early ward at enemy raptors or your river-side jungle entrance, protecting you from early jungle pressure.

Do not spam your W early. You want a good first recall of around 700+ gold. Use W defensively and poke mainly with Q.

Be very careful playing aggressively before you have your E . You do not gain your bonus Armor and MR until you put your first point into E, so you are extremely vulnerable before level 3.

Orianna usually outscales most mid laners, so you don’t need to force aggressive trades. The most important goal is avoiding deaths or a bad first recall. Stability is more valuable than risky trades.

After your first recall, once you have mana items and a few Manaflow Band stacks, you can start using W more frequently and play more aggressively with Q + auto spacing.

Once you unlock R , don’t be afraid to use it off cooldown in difficult lanes. Shockwave can instantly swing lane control or chunk the enemy for tempo. Using it to poke is completely valid in losing matchups.

Be extremely mindful of jungle ganks. Orianna is very easy to camp early. Track the enemy jungler and do not extend without vision, especially against champions with reliable gap-closers.
Advanced Tips
✦ Advanced Orianna Mechanics & Hidden Techniques

Your W speeds up minions. Use this to push waves faster and end the game more quickly, especially when you need to race tempo or close out a winning position.

Your W radius procs Manaflow Band even if it does not hit an enemy champion. You can stand near the wave and tag enemies at maximum edge range to generate stacks safely.

Always use your Q to check brushes. This is extremely important—Q gives vision through the Ball, letting you safely scout river, jungle entrances, and fog of war without face-checking.

For maximum movement speed value, place your Q in front of you and then cast W so you walk through the full circle. This gives you the highest possible speed boost to escape, chase, or rotate.

E’ing a melee ally such as Nocturne or Lee Sin is almost always faster than doing Q → R yourself. Shielding a diving ally instantly attaches the Ball to them, enabling extremely quick Shockwaves that enemies rarely expect.

If you have Homeguard active, wait until it expires before using W. Movement speed effects have diminishing returns, so stacking Homeguard + W wastes a portion of your burst speed potential.
