Introduction

Hello fellow players! Welcome to my first Guide for this wonderfull game. I hope people can apprechiate it and maybe find one of my most played chars, Nocturn to be as fun as I do and start to use him in Dominion more than he is right now! At least EU West he isn't seen often there, even when he can be quite dominating. The idea of this build is to be able to survive in the middle of the fight; be able to be in the fray; reach spots that need defending and be able to offensively kill people to take points.

This is no guide on how to play the char as more an overview and an outlook how he can be played and how -I- think he is effective.

(If I somewhere accidentialy switched AD and AP please leave a comment for me to correct it, I tend to confuse those!)

Runes

Attackspeed Seals: Attackspeed is, with Nocturn not only an offensive stat. We have . They are often underestimated, specialy during the first few minutes of a round. They deal damange, they do so on -all- surounding enemies and part of said damange heals Nocturn. This happens every 10 seconds and every basic attack reduces this cooldown by 1 second. -> Attack Speed works in our favor.
Alternative: Armor Seals; for when you feel you need to be more tanky and less a killer.

Greater Mark of Desolation Armor Pen Marks: Not much to explain there. Armor Pen > More Damange and lately there have been more tanky chars/builds in dominion.

In my opinion the best choice to not get blown up by those nasty caster champs. You can eat more of their damange, you survive longer which means they will be killed.

Greater Quintessence of Desolation The same as the Marks. We want to have our damange reach the enemy and not get stuck at their armor.

Masteries and Skills

21:9:0. Nothing spectacular there. We leave those 1,5% damage that we do not get from in favor of the added Health of the defence Tree. I tried it the other way, but especialy in early game the survivalbility helps a lot. Late game neither counts for too much anymore, so I choose to survive early and be able to maybe hunt a fleeing enemy.

: Every 10 seconds, Nocturne's next attack strikes surrounding enemies for 120% physical damage and heals himself for 15/20/25 per target hit. Nocturne's basic attacks reduce this cooldown by 1 second.

No Lifesteal, besides those out of the offence tree or from Prospector's Blade? Some might ask and this is the answer: Umbra Blades! You have a build in life steal and AOE attack (tho do not overestimate the range)! Best used with Duskbringer under you!

: Nocturne throws a shadow blade that deals damage, leaves a Dusk Trail, and causes champions to leave a Dusk Trail. While on the trail, Nocturne ignores unit collision and has increased Movement Speed and Attack Damage.

A thing one notices in Dominion quite often is the need to move. You are on bot and see a massive incomming force top and really need to defend there. Ghost? Cooldown...but hey! You got Duskbringer...it's quite awesome if you need to get somewhere quick or when chasing enemies. Make sure to aim a little into their movement as the shadow blade takes a bit time to move!

: Nocturne empowers his blades, passively gaining attack speed. Activating Shroud of Darkness allows Nocturne to fade into the shadows, creating a magical barrier which blocks a single enemy ability and doubles his passive attack speed if successful.

We get more attack speed from this! Awesome, it has quite a synergy effect with Umbra Blades and that's just the passiv from this skill. The active form is powerfull: Ever saw that Ash Arrow comming seemingly out of nowhere? Just -eat- it and LAUGH! It helps a lot when you are jumping onto an enemy that has a stun...eat it and they can't escape and even helped you with the additional attack speed.

: Nocturne plants a nightmare into his target's mind, dealing damage each second and fearing the target if they do not get out of range by the end of the duration.

CC is strong and important. You can have all the damange in the world, but if your enemy isn't sitting still to take the beating you can't do anything with it. So make sure they take it. Fear itself can be a bit tricky at times as it still might take your opponent away from you but that doesn't happen that often. Make sure you stay in range (Duskbringer!) of them too, so it can proc.

: Nocturne reduces the sight radius of all enemy champions and removes their ally vision in the process. He can then launch himself at a nearby enemy champion.

Everyone who played against Nocturn in Summoner's Rift knows that moment...the map goes dark, there is that hoarse voice booming from the speakers: 'Darnkess!'. It lets you jump on people, lets you chase people and take the enemie's sight on the map. Don't underestimate the last point! Rushing in without knowing what's going on is a dangerous thing, taking the vision can be a definsive tool too and allow you to buy your team time. Try not to waste it, you bite your bum of that one enemy escapes with a sliver of life or when you need to defend that one critical point! Carefull: The fog and brushes can easily foil your attempts to jump on people.

The combination of Paranoia, Unspeakable Horror and Duskbringer makes you a powerfull assasin!

Skill Sequence and Summoners

> > >

Your R should have clear priority over everything else. Next is Duskbringer. It allows you to do ranged damange which often helps a lot when people push you to your turret and you have to defend alone. It helps you too, to turn things on single enemies: You catch them and have the speed bonus while they drag your shadow trail behind themself and allow you to close the gap.
Next is Unspeakable Horror: Important, your CC, higher Lv > longer fear. We want~!
Shroud of Darkness last cause we want the passive to start, yes and we want the shield for us, yes, but do not need the increase in passive early on. Late game? Sure, but we have the Lv then anyways and skill this automaticaly.

I admit a personal preference, but I found it quite usefull. Many if not all get a bit of lifesteal or have an Healing Ability or some way to escape. You shut those things down with Ignite: Heals are a joke and when they run they burn anyways.
As I stated earlier: On Dominion it's all about mobility. Ghost is an almost needed skill for this game mode. It lets you catch those pests trying to take your turret, you can be quicker where you have to defend and it gives you those couple meters that you need for your Ult to be in range. Items

Items we start with:

; and 2 ; We have speed, more HP, a bit Damage and Life Steal. Make sure to pop in those Health Pots before you engange the enemy...they are easily forgotten and should be ticking during a fight!

: We want this rather fast. More HP means it takes time to kill us, which translates in us longer beating on the enemy and regenerating ourselfs which in turn makes the enemy take longer...you get where I am going with this. We want to survive and actually deal our damage...no need for damage you can't dish out!

: Health, damage and a proc that allows us to stick to the enemy. What's not to like?!

: This is a core item and the first you should have. You are glued to your enemy once you catch them, there is no running from you and this slow.

OR OR Your choise, honestly. Until this time you should know what kind of role you play. You have a Rammus on your team? Go more offensive with Berserker's; you noticed the Jax on your team got a tripplekill during the first fight and builds damage all out? Be more tanky, take Tabis or Mercs. Always have an eye on enemy comp as well!

I really like this item. It gives me the attackspeed bonus I like and lets me survive against those pesky casters. What, there are no caster's or magic damage dealer on the other side? A Stark's Favor is quite nice to survive when you go toe to toe with everyone.

It's your choise if you get this or Wit's End first (depends on enemy team) or if you go with the Armor or Null Magic Mantle first to complete the other item first, but this is another you want to have. Mallet and the Proespectors Blade push your HP which translate in your strength. You want to be tanky and a killer? You can't go past this!

From here on it's everyone's choice, I personaly go with . You hurt more? Less need to survive for long. For when you notice your damage dropping cause the enemy finaly realizes you are a threat to them and builds armor. You notice that one übertank that stacks armor and HP, but since your team doesn't have caster's is targetable by magic? is the way to go.

Why no more attack speed you ask? Well, those simply building attack speed are easily countered with a . You don't see one getting build? Feel free to go slice'n'dice on them and stack attackspeed. But remember: Alone your skills give you a nice boost there! Those searching alternatives: is a very viable item for us.

You are still getting picked off all the time or feel you need more tankyness?
Helps a lot against casters and since you are in the fray anyways...
Only AD and they build speed? It it's fun to see them kill themselfs!
More HP, damage around you? Why not! Personaly not my fav tho.

Summary

What do we have build now here? We have a nice bit of HP, we have a slow, we can jump and CC people and have a healthy bit of damage, we can be fast all over the map, can chase, can be offensive but do not lack in defending points. The perfect champion for Dominion!

I am not going to say this is the very best way to play Nocturn but it fits very well with my agressive, offensive playstyle coupled with my wish to survive. Who doesn't like to see those large kill numbers? Try him and have fun, specialy in Dominion. Experiment, I am sure there are items I haven't considered yet.

I want to say sorry to all those finding spelling/grammer mistakes: I wrote this in the spur of the moment, cause I felt like it and was too impatient to wait for my friend to proofread this. Sooooowwy for that in advance! Don't totaly destroy me in your comments and votes, but leave plenty! XD
