DRAVEN DOES IT ALL...

By boppang
About Draven
Draven is by far my favorite champion in the game. When someone picks Draven in champ select, all eyes are on them. Draven is the champ for you if you enjoy pressure and being the focal point of a team. Draven is a take all or lose hard champion. There are two usual outcomes after picking Draven; you win early, snowball and carry, or you fall behind and play from behind all game, usually leading to a loss.
Laning Phase
Draven has one of the strongest laning phases in the game. With a good support, Draven can snowball harder than almost any other champion in the game, which is why the jungler often tries to get the Draven on his team an early kill. As Draven, you want to get level 2 before your opponent, and then engage on them with your support, if you have something like a Thresh or Blitz who can hook and secure a level 2 kill. If not, you can get good trades off early just by catching axes and by activating Blood Rush(W) every time you catch an axe during a trade.

Look to buy a BF Sword or a Vamp Scepter on an early recall. If you can not get an early kill, it is important to farm and rack up your passive stacks. Not many people pay attention to a Draven's stacks, which is a huge mistake. A Draven needs to be shut down as soon as he reaches 100 stacks, or even earlier if possible. Because of this, a good enemy jungler will likely come and try to get an early kill on you with their bot lane. With that in mind, you want to juggle your axes while dropping as few as possible (to maximize the stacks you get for your passive) and to constantly look for trades once you get your Vamp Scepter. A Draven that's behind can easily come back into the game just by getting a single kill after racking up his passive stacks for a while.
Mid Game
Mid game is usually where you want to end the game with Draven. A Draven that got an early lead and is ahead wants to try and close out the game before the enemy adc catches up to them. This is usually no problem from all of the gold he gets from his passive. With the reverted crit items, Bloodthirster, Infinity Edge, and Shiv give you insane amounts of damage together. You want to farm side lanes as much as possible, without giving up objectives. It is important to stack up your passive as much as possible before a kill, in order to maximize the gold you get from killing a champion.

Always stay with your support. Although Draven is very strong when ahead, he has no mobility and therefore has a high chance of being caught out. Teams with champions such as Sejuani and Nocturne can easily catch you off if they see you walking around the map alone. Once mid game hits, make sure to stay by the support and be close to the team.
Late Game and Teamfights
Once mid game starts transitioning into late game and major teamfights start to break out, it is important to know your role in the fight. There are a few ways to approach a teamfight as Draven. One way is the original ADC approach. You sit back with peel from your team and gradually wear down the enemy team. Draven does this with ease once you master catching his axes in the middle of a fight. A Draven that can keep his 2 axes spinning for an entire fight does crazy amounts of damage, and if the enemy can't get to him, he will eliminate everyone. Stay back, focus who ever is closest to you, and don't do anything crazy.

If the enemy team has one or two specific carries and a bunch of tanks (i.e. tank top, sup, and jg), Draven can approach a fight differently. Once Draven gets a high amount of AD and crit chance(especially Rapid Fire Cannon), Draven becomes a very big threat to squishies. With Rapid Fire Cannon, Draven suddenly gets a very good poke mechanic, as he can throw his axes from very far away, and they will do massive damage if they crit. Also, Draven can simply turn his attention purely to the one or two carries on the enemy team and try to eliminate them as soon as the fight starts. A few crits and an ult will kill any squishy, and flash/QSS allow you to stay safe. After, you can deal with the braindead tanks who have no damage to back them up.
Jungler's role.
Draven is a champion thats very reliant on his team spoon feeding him early. Let your jungler know that you need an early gank in a losing matchup. Playing from behind is very hard as Draven, as he has no cc and building tank on him does not work. If your jungler can get you ahead early, even by 1 kill, the game will be much easier for you. If you know you are in a losing matchup, or you die early in lane, the best thing to do is to start stacking up your passive again. A big cash in from your passive will instantly bring you back into the game. When Draven dies more than a few times is when he becomes useless, as he gets cut off from his passive gold and simply falls behind the enemy adc.
