Holla! I'm Callmov and I enjoy not only playing, but also analyzing builds, runes, items and gameplay which includes positioning, engaging, grouping etc. Currently I'm not a hard-core player so I stick to normal blind picks. I started playing League of Legends couple of years ago and I have tried a lot of champions. Besides ADC role I enjoy Swain. I can play him in the Top lane, Mid lane, Jungle and Support role.

Swain is a champion who has gained second breath after the rework. He has built-in pretty good damage as well as tankiness. A lot of people compare him to Vladimir, but I won't do that. They both are vry different not only by design, but also story and gameplay.

I really hope You will enjoy my guide and maybe find out something valuable to improve Your gameplay.

Pros

+ High sustain in lane!
+ Solid combo usable in lane and roaming!
+ Good vision control!
+ Very good damage!
+ Amazingly strong ultimate!
+ Swain's ultimate has probably the best design!
Swain is a great pick in solo queue. He can do well in almost any team comp. His vision skill can provide team with necessary information. His ultimate can change the fight and his damage is quite high.

Cons

- Low range!
- Lacks mobility!
- Quite high mana costs!
- Ultimate's damage isn't on demand!

As per all champions, Swain has his strengths and weaknesses. Compared to other Mid laners, Swain can do well almost against every champ, however he lacks mobility and be easily ganked. He also has low range. In order to do some damage, You need to get close to the enemy.

Sorcery
  • Pick Sorcery as Your primary tree because of the fact that Swain is a battle mage.

Phase Rush
  • It comes down to a personal preference, but currently I pick Phase Rush because of the additional burst.

Manaflow Band

Transcendence
  • You gain additional 10% cooldown reduction after 10 minutes in game.

Scorch
  • This stone is very good on Swain because of the additional burn damage.

Resolve
  • Pick Sorcery as Your second tree because of the additional attack speed and attack damage.

Bone Plating
  • I prefer this stone while it is providing a damage reduction dealt my the enemy champion.

Chrysalis
  • Chrysalis provides additional 60 extra health at the beginning of the game. Due to the fact that Swain is not very mobile, this can save Your life.

SUMMONER SPELLS
-
FLASH: The best summoner spell in the game all day long. It can save You couple of times in a single game and it can help You chase down enemies as well. There is nothing better currently than Flash

IGNITE: This is a common second Summoner Spell for a mid laner. It adds additional burn damage to the enemy and can be great to finish up the enemy. Also Teleport could be used for extra mobility.

PASSIVE
ABILITY
Ravenous Flock (Passive): This ability collects sould fragments after kills, stuns and successfully landed visions. The more fragments You have, the more powerful Swain ultimate will be. Second part is a stun. You can pull a stunned target towards You.

Q
Death's Hand (Q): This is Your main damage source besides Swain ultimate. You can use this skill after You have stunned an enemy and pulled it towards You because of the short range of this skill.

W
Vision of Empire (W): This is a good skill for controlling map and getting necessary information for You can Your team because of the hude range of this skill.

E
Nevermove (E): This skill is a part of the combo. You can use this skill to launch a wave. When it hits a unit, it damages it. If the wave returning to Swain hits an enemy, the enemy becomes rooted and can be pulled towards You.

R
Demonic Ascension (R): This is Your ultimate. IT can change the fight towards Your team and even win it. This ability has 2 parts and both damage the enemies, which make this ability very powerful.

Skilling Order

#1. Demonic Ascension
6 / 11 / 16

#2. Death's Hand
2 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 9

#3. Nevermove
1 / 8 / 12 / 13 / 14

#4. Vision of Empire
3 / 10 / 15 / 17 / 18

We want to max out our ultimate and Q and E in this sequence, however start the game by putting a point in the E, which will allow us to stun the enemy. Afterwards focus on the sequence mentioned above.

This item should be Your first buy in most of the times, because of the ability power and health. Don't forget to buy Health Potion and Stealth Ward
as well.

You should focus on this item on Your first return. Plan Your return when You have enough gold. If You have additional gold, grab
Boots for 300 gold.

As Your next potential item we can count Sorcerer's Shoes because of not only movement speed, but also
magic penetration.

Rod of Ages is one of the core items. It has all the necessary stats You want. Ability power, health and mana is
what You are looking for in the game.

This item synergies extremely well with Swain.
It has ability power and
armor which will make You tanky. Additional CDR is cool.

This is the last item of these core items. Afer Seraph's Embrace You should be able to improve Your damage
and start to think about two last items.

This is a situational item, but I prefer it. It's so good because it adds up 90 AP damage and 500 mana making You really
scary to the enemy team.

This could also be very good for the 5th item due to the pure AP which
will improve Your damage even more. Due to the fact that You are quite tanky from the beginning, You can go this way.

From armor items Spirit Visage synergies with Swain the most. Health, magic resistance and CDR is
what You are looking for.

Early game and farming

At the beginning You want to farm and survive as good as You can. You want to get Rod of Ages as fast as You can. Afterwards You can think about teamfighting. At that point You should have Your ultimate available. You can use Your W to gain necessary information for You can Your team. Use Your E+Q combo to trade with the enemy in lane and roaming.

Late Game

This is a period in the game when Swain starts to shine. With his ultimate You can turn a fight around. That's after You've got Your core items + boots of Your choice. In the late game Swain E+Q combo deals even more damage and You can 1v1 almost everyone. At the end of the day it comes down to a skill match-up.

Tips and Tricks

First of all, You need to learn to land Your E+Q combo. You can throw Your W in the middle for some extra damage and additional soul fragment, which You get if You land Your W on the enemy.
Secondly, watch for Your soul fragments below Your health bar. They show how many You got. At max 5 soul fragments Your ultimate will be stronger than, for example, with 1 soul fragment.
Lastly, You can be very strong 1v1 as well as a team fighter. You will learn when to use Your ultimate and skills based on Your experience. As a result I just suggest to play Swain and enjoy him.

That's the end of this guide. I really hope You enjoyed it and maybe even found something new or worth considering.

I would absolutely appreciate Your like and comment. If You think this guide offers something valuable, feel free to share.
