Irelia - The Will of The Blades

The Ionians have developed some of the most breathtaking and deadly martial arts on all of Runeterra - just one manifestation of their pursuit of enlightenment. The most remarkable blade style to emerge, however, was the unusual byproduct of foreign intervention. Master Lito was a swordsman whose teachings were sought by ruling classes from nearly every city-state. His art was a highly-guarded secret, but it was said that swords would breathe in his grasp. He withered unexpectedly from a mysterious disease which baffled the brightest of Runeterran physicians. When he died, he left behind Zelos and Irelia, his son and daughter, and a truly unique weapon. Zelos became a sergeant in the Ionian military and left to seek assistance from Demacia immediately prior to Noxus' invasion of Ionia. Irelia, charged with the protection of their home until Zelos returned, was alone when the Noxian forces struck.

The Ionians fought admirably, but soon Ionian blood stained the land beneath the prints of foreign boots. At the Great Stand of the Placidium, Ionians prepared for surrender, but were inspired to maintain their resistance when the young Irelia lifted her father's enormous blade and pledged to hold until her brother returned. In the chaos of the ensuing fight, Irelia was cursed with dark Noxian Necromancy. As her life ebbed, Soraka, the Starchild, made a final attempt to anchor her fading soul. Unwilling to relinquish her home, Irelia rose at the brink of death, and her father's sword lifted in the air alongside her. Irelia rushed back to the fore, unfazed by the blade's sudden animation. The weapon danced around her effortlessly, cutting down Noxians as they gaped in horror. The decimated invaders were forced to retreat from the Placidium. Irelia was appointed Ionia's Captain of the Guard, and when the defense of her homeland moved to the Fields of Justice, so did she.

Welcome to my first Mobafire Guide! I will be writing a Guide over one of my Main Champions, Irelia. I mainly build her as a tanky DPS or also Offtank called.

She shines with amazing damage output and tankieness, you can build her almost as Fulltank while dealing great amounts of damage to your opponents. What means That you are a great addition to the Team and after you got Trinity Force you can be gamechanging.

But Let´s get started with my Build!

Passive: Ionion Fervor

Reduces the duration of stuns, slows, taunts, fears, snares, and roots for each nearby enemy champion.

1 Champion: 10%
2 Champions: 25%
3 Champions: 40%


Q: Bladesurge

Irelia dashes forward to strike her target. If it kills the target, Bladesurge's cooldown refreshes and refunds 35 Mana.


W: Hiten Style

Irelia is skilled in the art of Hiten, passively giving her physical attacks health restoration. Activating Hiten Style gives her basic attacks true damage for a short period.


E Equilibrium Strike

Irelia's attack balances the scales, dealing damage and slowing the target. However, if the target has a higher Health % than Irelia, then the blow stuns the target instead.


R: Transcendent Blades

Irelia summons 4 spirit blades that she can fling to deal physical damage and siphon life from enemies they pass through.

Irelia is a tanky DPS or Offtank who is Solo laning in the Metagame. She can initiate Fights after you got your first Tank Item. Mostlikly i pick a Warmog's Armor or, when your team is capable to win a Teamfight go for a Guardian Angel.
The Amount of damage shes dealing is quite a bit and let her give the abilitie to kill most of the ennemy Campions alone. Because you deal so much Damage its almost guaranteed that your getting focused while nobody touches your Carry and if, you just do the work.

My prefered Summoner spells for Irelia are Flash and Teleport.

I use to get out of the fight and it saves you from death so many times and in my oppinion one of the best Summoner summoner Spells in-Game. It´s a must have for Irelia because shes always directly in the fight.

As second Spell i use to get back on my sololane or to gank fast on other lanes. This spell is also very high ranked in my spell list but not a must have for Irelia.

spaaaaace Play Video Other good Spells Heal: It´s fun to use this on the top lane, it can save you in some 1on1 and give you kills too. Exhaust: Takes the damage of your ennemy out and can save you from getting killed. It´s especially good on a feeded carry. Promote: if the Ennemy has no jungler and you need some help on your lane take this. It will help guranteed. Ignite: I don´t like this spell because i allways forget to ignite my Ennemies but i know many people use this spell. Ghost: lowest in my list because its not the best spell you could choose, but it´s viable. Please don´t Smite: you can smite dat big minion! Clairvoyance: your support should grab this. Cleanse: you take the damage anyway. Surge: Not sure about this but i dont think it really fits well for Irelia even tough it would scale perfectly with her AP/AD Revive: Only pick it if you KNOW how to use it! If you fail your ennemy gets one more free kill. Clarity: Are you Noob?

• greater quintessence of Vigor: Perfect for your earlie laning Phase, it works really well with your Regrowth Pendant!
  
• Greater Quintessence of Gold: Can i haz moar Money?
  
• greater quintessence of Desolation: I go straight for Armor Pen in this Build.
  
• greater mark of Desolation: ARMORR PEN!!!!!!
  
• Greater Glyph of Magic Resist: Because i play as a tank you need also magic resist and they´re one of the best runes so just take them!
  
• Greater Seal of Armor:Is this Armor? Oh well it´s armor!

Of course you should max your Bladesurge first because this is your major Farming ability. After this i max my W Hiten Style until i got it on lvl 5, this gives you amazing lane sustain. This Ability will also help you in mid and lategame to take ennemies with lots of armor out.
Then you just max your last abilities if you get on level 18 or the game simply ends before because you lost or won.

I always start up with a Regrowth Pendant and a Health Potion. This is perfect when you go for lane sustain. After my first comeback or death, i buy a Philosopher's Stone and The first Part of Trinity Force, Sheen.
I save my money now for the full Trinity Force and after this i start building my Tank build, because my damage output after Trinity Force is amazing and when i farmed very well i´m far ahead to the others.

Now The Tank Part of Irelia begins. When your Team is doing well you buy a Guardian Angel to be able to initiate fights for your Team. You will mostlikly die but ... you don´t die!
If it doesnt go so well buy a Warmog's Armor and will be playing more like a melee Champion.
If you buy Warmog's Armor so early you will be able to farm lots of hp what will help you very much in late game.
When you got Warmog's Armor and also Guardian Angel you can start buying more specific things. If the ad carry does well you buy a Thornmail if the ap Carry does well you go for a Banshee's Veil.
Now i go for CDR annd more life, pretty simple because you also have the aspect of a fighter of Irelia in this build. I pick Shurelya's Battlesongbecause it builds out of Philosopher's Stoneand pick as last item Randuin's Omen because it also gives CDR and Magic Resist. It can slow down the attackers Attack speed whats kinda helpfull.

Of course you should buy a nice Pair of Nikes before you build your Trinity Force. I will show you which models i like most and which i don´t.

I like those shoes most because it gives the CDR i love so much on Irelia

Amazing addition to your Passive but only pick those shoes when your meeting lots of CC.

3.
Tanks wear those modern shoes very often and they look goo too. Just take them If you REALLY wanna be a tank.

4.
When you need the additional attackspeed you can pick those but i really think they´re not needed.

5.
Your E gets stronger and your sheen too but all in all i think they´re useless.

6.
Those boots are made for Football yo shouldn´t wear them on the Fields of Justice. (even tough it often feels like your meeting some aggro Football Fans)

7.
If you want to run in a marathon take them, but if your playing Irelia better don´t.

The Farming Animations from Irelia are not the easiest so it needs some training to lasthit with her. Its especially important to lasthit because Irelia needs good Items to shine.
You could also last hit some ennemy Champions with your Q, but i wouldn´t recommend that. But when you do it you should be aware that it will end up in endless Flmae and a possible lose.
To do farming legit you use your q and your ultimate on ennemy Creep waves. The CD from your Ultimate is very short and not really necessary in a fight, so feel free to use it.
