A good Shaco will abuse you early on. He can easily ambush you, so be very careful when face-checking bushes. Much like Kha, ward and keep your team aware.

Guide No Longer Updated
First off, thanks for all the views and support that my guide has! I'm sure most people have noticed that it is quite out of date at this point. I have stopped playing LoL as of June, but I may start playing again in the future. Only time will tell. Until then, I hope the guide can still help some people out, though I can't honestly say whether anything is relevant anymore or not. Best of luck to you all!
IT'S HERE!
I've once again started maining Amumu (old habits die hard) and along with that I figured now is the best time to re-release my guide! There are a few pictures I intend to add later, but for now, I think the guide as a whole is at a point that I'm happy with.
I hope you enjoy it, and please don't hesitate to let me know if there are any errors/inconsistencies, as well as any questions!
PATCH COMMENTS
Season 5 patch comments have been moved to a spoiler section to avoid excess walls of text. Click below to see them. Otherwise, Season 6 patch comments are unhidden below.

Season 6
Thoughts on Season 6: With all the changes going on in the current meta, it's truly difficult to say whether Amumu will be a strong preferred pick or not. Thus far, he seems balanced, but not quite as outright broken as other junglers.
Patch 6.1: Many players have tried out Runic Echos on Amumu, but it just doesn't jive with my play-style. I wouldn't say it's nonviable, it just isn't for me.
Patch 6.2: Changes to Flash mechanics should generally help most players when flashing walls to make plays. That's really the only change relevant to Amumu.
Patch 6.3:

Patch 6.4: Nerfs to Udyr and Xin are nice, but you still should never pick Amumu into either of them. Mercury's Tread have been buffed to 30% tenacity, which seems absurdly good at the moment. I am going to be trying out Merc's a lot more in ranked, and I will update the guide if I feel they're better than the alternatives.

Hi there, and welcome to my guide: Jungle-Mummy! Allow me to introduce myself, I am Whale, or Demographics on League. As all guides should be, this is ALWAYS a work in progress. I am constantly adding sections, changing around masteries, runes, and adding more advanced topics as I master them. I hope you'll all enjoy this guide as much as I enjoy writing and updating it!
Before you dive into the guide, I'm sure you're asking why you should follow my guide. Though it's not for everyone, if you can relate to my play-style, then this guide is for you. This guide is for the players who:
-
Like to do some mad damage while having cc.
Are not afraid to go all-in.
Are not afraid to build squishy early to take a chance for huge payoffs.
Are not afraid to save teammates and possibly dying in the process.
Without further ado, let the guide begin!
As a jungling off-tank, you have three main roles:
You must do your best through in-game communication to make sure your team knows when you plan to implement these three responsibilities through your play-style. Communication is key!
-
1. Initiate team fights.
2. Deliver a healthy dose of CC to the enemy carries.
3. Provide the ganks necessary to help your team dominate their lanes.

As with all guides, this is NOT a build you have to follow. This will simply give you a build that works against a general team. However, every team is different! There are other situational items that will work out very well against certain team types. Below is the reasoning I used for the items in the core build.
Stalker's Blade - Cinderhulk: This item gives a nice amount of health and another AOE DPS tool to add to your kit. This item also turns your smite into Chilling Smite, which seals movement speed from enemies, deals some true damage, and is great for ganks.
Boots of Swiftness: These are going to help you get around the map -- fast. Also, it gives you the ability to get in position quicker than most. Mercury Treads are very viable as well.
Liandry's Torment: Your W will make little girls cry. When coupled with Rylai's, the burn effects are doubled. This item has perfect synergy with your kit.
Randuin's Omen: Replaced sunfire as your armor stat. This will boost your health and armor, and gives you the ability to slow enemies on command.
Abyssal Mask: This will give you more damage output, as well as providing a debuff for the enemy team. This works well with AP casters with a lot of AOE such as
Orianna or
Ziggs.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter: This item provides some great sticking potential along with a nice amount of health. As mentioned earlier, this has great synergy with Liandry's.

I run these Runes for a few reasons:
1: Amumu is a heavy AOE champ, and MPen marks make sure the enemies feel your damage.
2: Movement speed on Amumu is amazing.
3: Armor/MR seals/glyphs are pretty standard & are good for the dives you'll inevitably be doing.
Masteries are geared toward giving you some survivability and utility early on that translates well into mid and late game.
If you want this section to include reasoning for each choice, I can add them, but at this point I do not plan on elaborating a whole lot.

Always lead with your
Bandage Toss, if possible. When you land it, activate
Despair right away to get the AOE damage. If done correctly, this will close a fairly large gap whenever it lands, and is a great surprise to those who don't have their wards placed. Once you arrive at your target, make sure you basic-attack him once to apply
Cursed Touch, then use
Tantrum. The sequence at a glance looks like this:
Bandage Toss >
Despair > Basic Attack >
Tantrum
-or-
Q > W > AA > E
Landing all of the abilities, with the help of the laners on your team, will almost always lead to a kill and some good feelings between you and your team =)
Of course, in a team-fight, get to the middle of the enemy team and activate your ult.

Your ultimate,

I figured I'd put this chapter here to tell you a little bit about my ranked experience with
Amumu.
Amumu is no longer a standard ban during ranked play. He is open in almost every game you will join. Personally, I've been playing Amumu for about 3 years, and I can say with certainty that this guide is tested & proven up to Platinum ELO. My stats are listed below:

As I said before, this is not an in-depth guide. It should be looked at as a resource for suggestions and possible tactics.
Amumu can be very powerful if used right, and has great sustain with a huge about of damage output as well. Feel free to leave feedback, and please rate it if you like it! Thanks,
Whale - MOBAFire
Demographics - League
tl;dr: Mumu is tank. Use stun. Happy face.
