Katarina 10.19 Diamond Guide In-depth

Hi, I'm Dagger. I'm a katarina main since before her rework, so essentially season 6 ;D. I have over 1M points in kat spread around all my accounts. I have experience in every rank with kat since I went as a kat main through all ranks.

I'm sure you have a lot more questions, because there is no way I can cover everything in one guid, so you can check out my stream and I'll answer any questions you can have.

Katarina is a high risk high reward champion. You will be a main source of damage through the midgame, which allows for you to take over games. Your damage will be masively amplified for every kill you get because of Voracity. Also each Bouncing Blades you pick up can deal AOE damage, so use it to deal as much damage as you can in each fight.
- Squishy
- Very weak if behind
- Useless in Team fights without resets
- Hard to learn how to place daggers
- Falls of lategame
- Struggles against tanks

Katarina is very squishy unless you give up damage for defensive items. So you really have to watch out for any burst damage. Katarina also struggles massively if she gets stunned, so unless you can doge the cc you are done for. Also she struggles massively against tanks, so if you cant burst the champion 100 to 0, she will be extremly weak after the combo
Whenever an enemy champion dies within 3 seconds of Katarina damaging them, her abilities' current cooldowns are reduced by 15 seconds. Whenever Katarina retrieves a dagger she uses it to slash through all nearby enemies, dealing 68 − 240 (based on level) (+ 100% bonus AD) (+ 55 / 66 / 77 / 88% (based on level) AP) magic damage and reducing Shunpo Shunpo's current Cooldown reduction icon cooldown by 78 / 84 / 90 / 96% (based on level).
Bouncing blade
Katarina throws a Dagger at the target enemy that bounces up to 2 seconds, dealing 75 / 105 / 135 / 165 / 195 (+ 30% AP) magic damage to each target. Then the dagger lands behind the unit that originally hit, 350 units behind them. Leaving a dagger on the floor to be picked up.
Katarina tosses a Dagger in the air above her current location, gaining (50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90%) decaying bonus movement speed
Katarina instantly blinks Flash to the target location around the target chosen or dagger, dealing 15 / 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 (+ 50% AD) (+ 25% AP) magic damage to the nearest enemy in range. Shunpo can not blink to wards. Shunpo also resets katarina's basic attack timer.
Death Lotus
Katarian rapidly spins in place for 2.5 seconds throwing a dagger every 0.1666 seconds to up to 3 nearby enemy champions, dealing up to 375 / 562.5 / 750 (+ 22% bonus AD) (+ 19% AP) and reducing their healing by 60% for 3 seconds.
Lane Phase/Early Game
Early Game
Katarina is a champion who should abuse any easy matchups and push and roam in the difficult ones.
In laning phase you need to try to poak level 1 and try to go in for a level 2 or level 3 attack. Of course, if you get the level up before its always better to engage them.
However, DO NOT engage early champions with hard cc that you can't doge like Galio's w Shield of Durand for example.

Lane Phase
Try to always look to bait in the enemy to hit with a dagger or poke with q. The dagger's range is centered on where you pick it up, not the center of the dagger. Depending where you grab the dagger in the circle that you can grab it, then you may or may not reach with the damage. Try to abuse that in lane, because not a lot of people realize it (iron-gold players)
Main Keystones
You should be using Conqueror when your opponent will not prefer long fights, because you can abuse them. With this rune, you will be building the ad side of Hextech Gunblade to be able to abuse the auto resets early. This strat works against Kassadin
You should be using Electrocute when you need burst matchups, like Yone. You can proc Electrocute extremly easy with Katarina, a Bouncing Blades, Shunpo and auto attack will proc Electrocute Burst damage is extremly good with kat, so use it whenever you dont know what else to do.
Dark Harvest is a very risky rune, and it should only be picked over Electrocute or Conqueror if the matchup will be extremly easy and the enemy team is full squishy champions, for example a matchup that you can take this rune into is Veigar

Sudden Impact Is a MUST when playing kat, it will give you lethality or magic penetration depending on what you built, and it is a must every time ymou play, you must get this rune in on primary or secondary runes. So I HIGHLY recommend to have this rune.
Eyeball Collection should be picked if you are picking domination tree as primary. Its an extra on the ap for killing other people.
Ravenous Hunter is another key rune that is a must in any keystone combination. This links up very nicely with Hextech Gunblade since it essentially gives the same passive once its stacked up. So I HIGHLY recmomend to have this rune.
Triumph is another key secondary rune, that must be picked in any rune combination, it heals back up for a substantial amount of health after kills. This will allow for you to survive more after every kill. So I HIGHLY recommend to have this rune.
Legend: Tenacity is a secondary rune that gives you the ability to make Crowd Control run out faster. This is not a must rune, but is nice when you go with Conqueror, since you need to be a bit more vulnerable when stacking Conqueror
Coup de Grace is another must rune in any combination of runes, since it give more damage the less hp they have. This will make your resets easier to get and your burst easier to do. So I HIGHLY recommend to have this rune.
Adaptive damage For the final 3 adaptive runes, I recommend to go double adpative damage and depending on the enemy mid if they are heavy ap or heavy, either go magic resist or armour respectively. You can even swap one of the adaptive damage to magic resist or armour if the four out of five on the enemy team are ap or ad respectively.

In order to roam, you must be assured that you don't lose farm at the same time. The best way to ensure that is to, wait for a wave to stack up against the other, use Bouncing Blades on the melee minions, then Shunpo onto the dagger left on the floor (make sure to pick it up hitting all minions, including casters), then use Preparation and wait for the second dagger to land on top of you, hitting all minions. After that all the minions should be dead, and if not finish them of with autos. Remember, do this only when you feel safe enough to do it. If the enemy can trade a lot when you do that, then do not look for a roam. After that, you are ready to leave lane for 30 seconds for free.
