Trundle is surprisingly good in the ADC role at Gold and below for several reasons, permitting the right conditions.
What are the right conditions? Squishy enemy ADC, low-CC enemy support, aggressive friendly support, aggressive friendly ganking JG.
With an aggressive support, Trundle deals more damage early, is more mobile, and has a better toolkit for 1v1. This means if the enemy Support is zoned away, Trundle will almost always be able to kill the enemy ADC and take over the lane early.
While it can be difficult to farm without lane bullying, Trundle easily farms under tower and can pick the right moment to use Pillar to gang up on a squishy ADC for an easy kill. Then farming is easy and the enemy support is alone.
Ganking a Trundle lane is great because his Pillar creates an additional obstacle for the enemy to retreat. Using the Pillar early can bait the enemy Flash, setting up a free kill.
Most of all, with an aggressive support, Trundle can dominate the lower lane and consistently slow down and burst the enemy ADC. His health sustain and ability to go bruiser with damage and Armor/MR gives him a powerful advantage.
His speed up and Pillar plus friendly Support CC can essentially guarantee an inescapable lane for enemies, particularly since many ADCs have little mobility.
Teemo's Q is excellent because his ability to blind the enemy ADC guarantees a 1v1 win between Trundle and any sharpshooter. Karma's slow and damage is great for surprise burst attacks. Morgana/any bind Support is great for obvious reasons.
Trundle really suffers against enemy bot lanes that have a lot of CC. It is important to play super defensive and safe, usually under tower, against these comps. It is necessary to back to base many times against these compositions early, but eventually--with a gank or two--the lane becomes manageable in the mid game.
When Trundle is ahead, the lane is over. The enemy ADC is at constant risk to die unless he farms under tower, and even then Trundle can easily tower dive with Ult. It is okay to trade at all times because he has better sustain.
One quote from another Silver player: "Trundle is a surprisingly good ADC. WHY!?"
