Pantheon The Chunky Spartan

We all know that a all out attack damage Pantheon is pretty good, but I find that a Pantheon with boatloads of durability to be much better. This way he can stay in a fight or survive dropping down to get a kill. To be a chunky Spartan you have to be durable but not tank, you need to deal alot of damage but not through auto attacking (too exhuasting for the chunky Spartan). And all chunky Spartan rely on extra help to move faster (basically summoner spells). That is what it takes to be a CHUNKY SPARTAN!

Story

Far above the clouds on Mount Gargantuan resides a stalwart tribe of people known as the Stanpar who still revere combat and war as penultimate art forms. They remember the Runewars of Runeterra and know that the League of Legends can only repress the rising tides of violence for so long. Each member of the tribe is bred to be a disciplined and vicious warrior, preferring to battle soldiers of either the Noxian or Demacian armies only when outnumbered at least ten to one. Stanpar warriors are trained not only to be as lethal with their bare hands as the most capable martial artists, but also to fiercely wield the many relic-weapons of the tribe. Such treasures have been handed down from generation to generation, and have harnessed the mystical nature of Runeterra in their very cores. These relic-weapons are among the most dangerous in existence - and it comes as no surprise that they have found their way to the League of Legends in the hands of Pantheon. This stone-faced warrior is a paragon of his people, his very existence an anthem of exultation to the art of combat. Pantheon found it insulting that the people of Valoran would install an organization to replace war, complete with so-called champions, without including the Stanpar. Gathering the blessings of his tribe and armed with the relics of his ancestors, he has descended on the League to show the world a true warrior. He cares not who he fights, and cares nothing for the pageantry or prestige of a League champion, but lives only for the austere glory of battle. As long as Pantheon breathes, he thirsts for another foe to vanquish.

''I was hoping they had more reinforcements.'' - Pantheon, standing amidst the pieces of a brutalized Noxian battalion. -Wow he is badass

THE CHUNKY SPARTAN STORY!

As Pantheon stands in his little village he waits, he hungers. His orders were not answered yet and someone would pay.... As the small man walked up to his house with the box at hand he said "The pizza you ordered sir..." In rage Pantheon yelled "THIS IS TWO MINUTES LATE I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG!" so Pantheon leaped into the air and then face planted onto the ground, causing a major crater where he landed. The pizza man was never seen again.

"Do not make me wait!"- The chunky spartan after he made his impact on the pizza man. (I am not exactly calling Pantheon fat or anything I'm just saying that when you use this guide he uses a girdle with a six pack spray painted on it)

Introduction

This build is inexpensive, durable (especially against casters) and can still carry a team. This build can face off against a mixed team of Attack Damage and Ability Power Champions, it can resist getting nuked extreemly well and has great resistences for overall durability without giving up too much damage. It is big and chuncky, it works great with it's team and can do well 1v1 but works best with its team. Though this build can carry it is not a full out carry, instead Pantheon takes on the role of a subtank charecter.

This Build is still a work in progress please suggest things before you downvote

Runes

The runes I chose for this build help maximize his survivabilty, spamibility and damage dealing. Feel free to take other good alternatives as long as they help one of those three stats in someway. These ones are my personal favorites when I play him, don't be afraid to tell me yours.

Greater Mark of Desolation
Marks: I choose these marks because this build has somewhat poor attack damage considering other Panteon builds. So I grab the armor penetration to give Pantheon some help to deal out some pain.

Seals: I am not picky when it comes to seals, honestly I dont really care what you choose for this, I personally find the extra mana regen to be useful since I have none in this stack.

These glyphs give Pantheon some needed cooldown reduction. This allows him to use his abilities quicker.

This give Pantheon some early durability, which in this guide there is no extra health for a little while.

Masteries

The masteries I choose for this build give Pantheon more survivability and utility. Which lack both early game. I find that if I go into the offensive mastery tree that I tend to not have some of the essentials in early game for Pantheon. Meditation is better to get then Greed because Greed will give you 60 gold in 10 minutes, lets say the average game is 30 minutes, thats only 180 gold. If you get the one point in Meditation you get 1 mana per 5 seconds, so you will get 120 mana in a minute which is enough for a Spear Shot and a Aegis of Zeonia which could give you a kill. Another great alternative is to get Utility Mastery if you don't have a jungler and you like to get golem or lizard buff alot.

Please comment how you would change this because my masteries are still not set in stone!

Items

The items I have chosen all help Pantheons survivability and damage output. Though Pantheon is vunerable when he is slow moving that does not mean that he is a easy kill. With this build you can stay in the fight until it is all over and then quickly escape with Ghost and Flash

Essential Items:

Explanation: These items all give Pantheon some form of survivabillty without giving up too much attack damgage. This allows him to swoop in combat with Grand Skyfall] and not take much punishment for it. Almost all of Pantheon's abilities require or make him get up close to enemies, therefore he needs this extra durability. Another thing you may have noticed is that this guide has alot of magic resist but not as much armor. The reson for this is because Pantheon's passive blocks a normal attack, therefore making him block a percentage of all physical damage done. [[Mercury Treads are great for getting out of disabling abilities and give even more magic resist. Banshee's Veil is important due to the extra durability and mana not to mention a beasty spell block and magic resist. The last item I find essential for Pantheon is the Frozen Mallet this give him boatloads of health, some extra attack damage and a slowing effect on hit which works well with Aegis of Zeonia because you jump on them normall attack to slow them not allowing them to escape Heartseeker Strike]

Good items for Pantheon:

Youmuu's Ghostblade- I use this item in my normal stack because of the attack damage and cooldown reduction, not to mention its awsome passive if you need more attack speed and some extra crit strike.

Atma's Impaler- This item is great, it will add up with boat loads of attack damage, and give some armor, along with some extra crit strike which can be usefull.

Guardian Angel- This is a good item if the enemy team is has some heavy attack damage, and if you are a little suicidal with you Grand Skyfall

Infinite Edge- A good item to get if you need to be better 1v1, 250% critcal damage is very nice, and it give attack damage and critical strike chance. Sell the Hexdrinker for it in late game or get this item instead of Youmuu's Ghostblade

Bloodthirster- If you need late game life steal and more attack damage get this, sell the Hexdrinker for it in late game.

Doran's Blade- A good start for Pantheon, more health a bit of lifesteal. I would suggest this if you play risky and you want a good start.

Last Whisper- Get this is there is a team with HIGH armor, the armor pen and extra AD will help alot

Hexdrinker- You may be asking why is this even in the main build, and well it it because it is a solid early game item, which can save you life expecially againts enemies like Karthus the attack damage, magic resist, good passive, and cheap price make this a relitivally nice buy. But you probably want to sell this after you get Banshee's Veil or later in the game.

Please suggest some items, I am still unsure so don't be shy suggest them!

Skill Sequence

The skill sequence I choose for Pantheon gives him much more damage output. In the beginning I max out Heartseeker Strike For its deadly passive which can help you farm and finish off enemies with a large amount of hitpoints. Next I max out Spear Throw which gives Pantheon a chance to deal decent damage from a range. I find that the early you can get spear throw the better but the combo comes first so I get spear throw at level 3 instead of level 4.

Alternative: If the enemy team is almost all ranged or has alot of skill shots or long ranged moves maxing out Spear Throw can be a great thing. It can deal some very heavy damage to enemy champions if they don't stack up armor.

Summoner Spells

I find that Pantheon has no real escape mechanism making him a easy target if he has no movement speed. Because of this I get Ghost and Flash which allow him to escape quickly or help chase someone down. If you are in a really sticky situation first use Flash to gain some distance on them, then if they will still catch you use Ghost for the getaway. It is also a good idea to Flash through walls to get away from enemies, this can save you from using up Ghost and waiting for the cooldown. If our team has alot of CC I might take a Ignite or if our team has almost no slows then I would grab a Exhaust. Finnally if no one on your team has a Teleport just get it, it will save alot of towers.

Other Good Summoner Spells:

Exhaust- Great for a 1v1 or just slowing down some guy, I like to use this spell alot but most of the time I find that I need the summoner spells which allow me to escape more.

Ignite- Really effective spell for Panteon, it can reduce healing for champions like Dr. Mundo and can deal that extra bit of damage you need, great for first blood!

Teleport- Gives Pantheon ridiculus map controll. You can Grand Skyfall on a enemy and then when you are done with the battle Teleport to a tower where someone is trying to backdoor.

Spells you Should Never Get:

Heal- Unless you completely new to Pantheon and this game I would never recommend this spell.

Revive- This spells main use is for twisted treeline normally not good on summoners rift.

Clarity- It can be ok if you are new but it will be completly useless late game, there are just better options.

Rally- I don't think that this spell will help that much, there are more usefull options.

Clairvoyance- This spell is not good for Pantheon because if you are looking for someone who ran in the woods and you want to Grand Skyfall on them it tells them were you plan to drop down. Also this is a support spell, it is not meant for Pantheon.

Fortify- Sure it comes in handy but there are other thing Pantheon needs much more.

Cleanse- This spell could be good but I would use it because of all the extra durability their is in this build, if you get stunned you can probally live, but what do you do when you get out of the stun? Use that Ghost or Flash that you don't have because you replaced it for this spell?

Tell me if you think there are other spells I should include.

Early Gameplay

Be very cautious in early game because in this phase of the game you have very little hitpoints and though you may have a Hexdrinker you can still be killed with some ease. Make sure you don't spam your abilities, this will lead to major mana starvation. Only use your abilities in a burst. Unless you find that you will be fine and the enemy can not take the harrass without giving you a big advantage. If you are facing ranged champions which are taking advantage of you rank up Spear Throw instead of Heartseeker Strike.

Mid Gameplay

In mid game Pantheon can dominate, this is because you got out of the laning phase and might all be going into the middle lane. Team fights will start to break out and you have Grand Skyfall which can turn the tides of battle. Pantheon is more durable at this point so this is a great part for this build. Catalyst the Protector will give you extra laning survivability and nice stats with it, along with Phage for a nice slow effect which can combo off great with your abilities.

Late Gameplay

Late game can be great, don't be afraid to tank towers or backdoor you will likely be sucsessful at doing it. Also since this the Hexdrinker is sort of weak late game you can sell that to buy a powerful item. Carry champions can probably beat you 1v1, it is almost always a bad idea to take on a extreemly fed Master Yi. If everyone on the other team can easily take you on get a Bloodthirster or/and a Infinite Edge. I would recomend to get the Infinite Edge because it makes your critcals deal more damage which works great with the passive from Heartseeker Strike plus it give alot of attack damage and critical strike chance.

Pros / Cons

Pros:
Great Damage Output
Universal Ultimate
Passive that Blocks Normal Attacks

Cons:
Commonly Focused
Very big kill steal Heartseeker Strike- I have had people rage quit cause I took a kill from auto attacking, did I mean to? No. Did he care? I think the guy was crying.

Team Work

Use Grand Skyfall during team fights, it will make people run for their live to avoid damage, there fore they don't deal any. Or they will stay in the circle and get nuked and slowed. Either way it is a win-win situation for you. Another thing you need to watch out for is kill stealing with Heartseeker Strike, this happens all the time and get people mad at you. I've had people rage quit or intetionally feed becuase some people do this (it has only been caused by me once). And honestly those people should just get over it.

Farming

Use the passive from Heartseeker Strike to last hit minions. Since this guide does not have that much attack damage compared to others you need to use this passive to farm minions more sucsessfully. Most of the time it will not matter when it comes to normal minions unless it is ranked up and makes its passive more effective, even then it still may not matter.

Some Cool Tricks with Pantheon

Here are some cool tricks I know as Pantheon feel free to post any cool tricks you know and I will gladly add them.

-If you are being chased and then all of a sudden a enemy pops up infront of you and you are conered you have 3 options...
Option 1: Agis of Zeonia on the ambusher and run like hell.
Option 2: Agis of Zeonia to the original chaser for the juke and run like hell.
Option 3: Go into a bush and Grand Skyfall out of there (only use this if they are lacking stun or if there is a good distance)

-If your teammate is towerdiving just Agis of Zeonia on the target, they will be stunned, you get a sheild to block the tower and also a assist for the towerdive!

-If you have high mana use spear shot to farm minions that you might take damage trying melee attack

-In late game you can 1 hit caster minions with Heartseeker Strike so that can make you lots of money from big minion hordes.

Some Things you Shouldn't Try as Pantheon

-Don't try to Agis of Zeonia through a wall, it doesn't work. The enemy on the other side gets stunned but you don't really gain much ground on them.

-Don't use your Grand Skyfall when your in the middle of a team fight, your just asking to get stunned. If you really want to go into a nearby bush and do it.

Summary

Thank you for looking at my guide, this is still a work in progress. If you have a slight dissagreement with this stack don't vote it down. Make a suggestion and I will be likely to put it in my guide. Good luck and have fun, embrace your inner chunky Spartan!
