her parry messes Irelia up pretty badly. not only does she deny your stun, but also a Q stack reducing ur dmg output pretty heavly. you can try baiting out her parry and all in her once that happens, altho if i was the Fiora player i would just respect Irelia and walk back till my parry is back up.
Tryndamere
this guy is literally a diceroll. this match up is basically a wave management game, if he has stacks up you won't beat him. let the wave push to you, build up ur stacks and slowpush. if his rage bar gets down, do not let him touch the wave and just all in him with your 5 stacks whenever he gets close. Match up is still in favor of tryndamere as its more about him messing it up then you outplaying him really. Also even if you manage to kill him early and build up lead, he can eventually still be able to kill u once he gets enough dmg.
Aatrox
This match up is for the most part a mini game of dodging his Q. The way to fight him is to stun followed up with Q then just stick to him to not allow him hitting first and second Q for third Q you want to either jump away to a minion u can get a reset on and back to aatrox afterwards or just charge ur W if Q dodge is not available
Camille
This match is pretty much even. You both have tools to play around each other. you can just Q away from her dash or just W it. On the other hand Camille has the possibility of ulting ur E or ult denying ur dmg and an extra Q proc. conclusion: the one to outplay the other wins with Irelia having a slight adventage in the matchup
Darius
This match up can be tricky as it can easly turn into a hard match up if not played correctly, due to darius being a champion that punishes mistakes very heavly. Let the wave push into u, in this match up especially you might want to give up cs, u really do need to keep ur hp. Once you start slowpushing, and Darius gets to close feel free to all in him (lvl 3 or higher). The way to fight darius is as followed: E -> Q -> orbwalk. Keep your second Q for his own Q. Jumping to him once he starts Q animation, cancels his Q dmg as well as his healing and a stack for his passive, which is very important.
Gangplank
Should be a fairly easy match up, as Gankplank is not a very oppresive laner. Make sure to not eat to much of his Q poke and just all in him with stacked passive. If hes sitting on a barrel try to jump to a low hp minion near the barrel and hit the barrel first then him. While he can remove ur stun, it doesn't really matter much as he will still lose a great chunk of hp on ur all in. If you have ur ult up it will propably cost him either flash or his life.
Garen
If garen is running Teleport u should easly be able to just autotrade him with stacked passive AA. Make sure to W his Q hit, and release right after it.
Illaoi
I don't play this match up very often but its pretty easly doable for Irelia as long as u dont get hit by her E. When Illaoi cast her Q on you, you can Q into her making u go behind her = dodge the tentacle. Once she is lvl 6 be careful for her ult. try bating it by engaing on her, while keeping atleast 1 Q up for escape in case she ults. Overal this match up isn't very difficult, basically all about dancing around her tentacles. Just remember that even an Illaoi going 0/10 can destroy you as long as she hits her abilities, so dont underestimate her at any point of the game even when your really fed (not to say you need to be affraid of her, just keep doding her at all time)
Jax
This match up is always been a pretty hard one for Irelia, even the non reworked one. Its not unwinnable, but surely jax has an adventage here. Early on he is fairly beatable as long as ur able to bait out his E and all in him after. In order to bait it out just keep hitting him with ur AA whenever he is going for a lasthit, your range is longer then his so he will have to Q on you in order to get in range, if he does so use E to stun him. If he hasnt casted his E yet you can Q him into Auto. At that Point Jax is propably running up to you with his E up, if so try to either jump away to a minion which is out of range of his E (one that can give you a reset to re-engage) or just charge ur W to block damage. Even if you beat jax early he outscales you later on so keep that in mind.
Jayce
just like any other squishie, this match up should be fairly easy. Dont eat to much of his poke, and all in him by Q'ing to a minion near him and stunning him, to keep ur Q resets for his push and eventual flash.
Kayle
Very weak champion in early, which requiers farm to pop off. In this match up instead of slowpushing towards your opponent, instead freeze the wave to deny as much farm as possible early on. This is a lane where passing on early tiamat is a good idea as it makes it harder to freeze.
Kennen
This match up is basically same as jayce, except for instead of pushing you away, this guy just runs away. Also here make sure to engage by Q'ing a low hp minion to keep resets for his escape tools.
Mordekaiser
I personally perma ban this guy every game since the rework, so i cant say to much, but the way i used to handle him him was making my adventage on him early on (pre 6). After that despite being behind he can still easly beat you.
Maokai
Maokai isn't really able to fight Irelia as she out dpses him and also has the sustain to heal throught maokai's poke. There is not much to say about this match up really.
Nasus
Nasus is somewhat comperable to Kayle. Also in this case you want to freeze the lane early on and propably skip on early tiamat. try to deny him the farm as much as possible, but be careful of him, a, sheen, a bit of armor and his ult can easly be enough for him to beat you unless u have made a strong lead on him.
Ornn
Orn is busted champion and is pretty hard to beat as his bristle stakcs just nukes you down. Now that Botrk been overbuffed, u might be able to win into him with botrk, but before that u mostlikely wont.
Pantheon
Be careful of pantheons early as he can be pretty opressive. After 6 he is pretty easy to beat as his ult doesn't offer much when it comes to fighting while your does. When he is charging his W, you can Q to him get behind him and ignore his blocks.
Renekton
Pretty comperable to Tryndamare match up, with rene being easier (if the difficulty level would scale up to 6 i would place rene on 4 and trynda on 5.
Riven
For this match up it can be hard to hit certain abilities (E specifically), but there is a window where u can hit it pretty easly which is when Riven is casting her 3rd Q as it leaves her stuck in her Q animation not allowing her to dodge asside. If u all in her and hit ur abilities u should be winning into her
Rumble
Not much to say about Rumble really, just all in him by jumping to a close minion -> Q into ur reset once he get out ur AA range or mark is about to dissapear then continue orbwalking till he is out of range again to Q him once again.
Ryze
Ryze doesn't really like facing mobile champions as he has a hard time escaping them, and well Irelia is basically one them. Another pretty easy match up just like Rumble Kennen.
Sett
Sett match up can be pretty tricky as you both hit pretty hard with auto's . when you all in him, make sure to keep atleast 1 Q up to dodge his W charge (since Q brings u behind him).If u still have a Q up and have an option to jump away and get a reset feel free to do so and wait till his shield decays after that just re-engage. If you don't have that option just charge your W till his shield decays.
Vladimir
While this match up one of the easy once, i always find him pretty annoying due to his pool which allows him to dodge your stun, which basically doesnt allow you to kill him pre 6 if he is playing it right. Once you are 6 you get another tool which is you ult, and vlad can only dodge one of them.
Yasuo
A very annoying match up to the last minutes of a game. Yasuos windwall can easly block you E's and R with his windwall denaying you many stacks, which can easly render you useless. In lane phase its not THAT big of a deal as u can play around his cooldowns and mistakes he could possibly make. I have often hear people say "just bait his windwall" but to me it just really doesn't make sense as his windwall instantly blocks E and Irelia's stun has a cast time which leave yasuo with quiet a lot of time to react to it, so there is not really a need for him to panic. What you can try to do tho is making your E as small as possible so that you have a chance it doesnt touch the windwall (basically throwing your E twice on top of yasuo without moving your mouse really, or if he has already placed his windwall you can also try throwing it diagonally
Yorick
A pretty easy match up as his ghouls are helping you more then they are helping him. every ghoul dies to 1 Q which not only allows you to easly stuck up your passive but also heal up.
Singed
I have often heard people say its a hard match up, but i have personally never had much issue with Singed. just stun singed and start orbwalking like with any other match ups while holding Q to catch back up to him after he flings you. if you get out of Q stacks and have not been able to kill him, then just let him go, dont just mindlessly chase him without a tool to get close as this can end up bad. this Match up can easly range from minor to even (maybe even hard?) depending on how well the Singed player makes use of his Slow which which grounds you.
Gnar
Comperable to kennen with 1 exception which is his mega gnar. Just like with with Kennen you want to engage on him by Qing a minion near him for reset. Ther exception here is that you dont want to all in him when he is close/in megagnar form unless you are sure you can kill him.
W ability was at first designed to be a defensive tool, comperable to fiora's parry, jax counter stike etc, etc. After multiple nerfs and changes to it, its not really a great ability to defend ur self with. While it can still be applied to reduce someones burst, i use it much more as an offensive tool, to setup resets, get/hold passive stacks or finishing off your opponent.
Tips and tricks
casting E
In my opinion the best way to hit your stun is by starting behind your opponent and the second part towards ur self.
Setting up Q chain
what i mean with that is putting caster as well as 1 melee minion at low hp this way you can walk quiet far back, making ur opponent think he is safe to come up to the wave and pick up a cs, which allows u to surprise him and get up to him very fast. Its something you can make use of when your opponent is affraid of u and avoides getting close. It won't always work as some people might expect it, but its always worth a try.
Keeping minions for passive reset
When you're pushing a tower with your passive up, and still have minions available to you, keep them to refresh your stacks when they are about to decay.
proccing sheen when pushing (applies only in the meta where you play triforce)
When pushing the tower make sure to use E to proc trinity once, wait for ur sheen to be up again to get a second sheen proc on your second part of the E. You can do the same with W by quick tapping it.
setting up resets with W
When you know that a minion is not in range for your Q reset quick tap your W on it getting it low enough to get a Q reset. its something that can definietly surpise your opponent.
R+Flash
Like with quiet a few abilities, you can flash while casting your R to make it hit your opponent faster, giving him less time to react. In lane this propably wont really be neccesary, but in a teamfight its very crucial to hit your ult, enemy flashing out of it can be the difference of a won and a lost teamfight
So if those are your opponents and a teamfight is going on, you can cast from here toward their direction, followed by flash allowing u to still make it.
Q dash
Using your Q on an opponent places u behind him, use that to your adventage when dodging abilities.
Lasthitting from range with your E
Whenever you can't get to close to the wave, you still have the option of casting ur E on a minion without moving your mouse in any direction. This way you wont hit other minions = you wont be pushing the wave. Same can be done with W to a melee minion.
