Sett, Caretaker of the fractured shrines | Lethal Sett Guide

Sett, Caretaker of the fractured shrines
Introductions

Hello, I am Riceyboll a retiring Thresh top OTP looking to expand my champion pool into four champs to main and I just absolutely fell in love with Sett as a champion and his fun and simple kit. Alos with the fact that Youmuu's Ghostblade is one of my favourite items, but Sett couldn't really make much use of it before, but now he can since it became a mythical item in patch 13.10 which inspired me to make this guide/ build

Why try this build?

x Good dueling potential
x Splitpushing menace
x Really fun to use

Sett's pros/cons

Pros

x Teamfight & dueling menace which allows him to get feeded and help his team get feeded Also good in lategame skirmishes
x Splitpushing power which especially shines in this build
x Good CC allowing you to lockdown enemies
x Great towerdiving with his ult and W

Cons

x Hard laning againts range, but with this build when you get some items you can close the gap really fast if you didn't feed
x Sett's kit is really predictable so everyone knows your moveset and what you can do, so they can plan accordingly, but if you play smart that won't be a problem

Youmuu's Ghostblade

Why I take Youmuu's for Sett? Well to keep it simple I like taking it, because it helps a lot with gap closing and the stats are really juicy for Sett. Also in my opinion it is currently the best mythical for Sett since Heartsteel is a bit more situational and while Goredrinker did get a buff recently and active ability on the item is decent I personally don't think it's worth it anymore after I got my hands on the new mythical. Plus Youmuu's is a Touhou Project reference which I like.(no bias I promise)

Hullbreaker

You'd be surprised how great this item actually is for Sett since you get good resistances, hp and AD + your skills to destroy enemy towers becomes superior.

Titanic Hydra

Titanic Hydra is already a "meta" item for Sett, but anyway, this item allows you to get super good wave clear, because of the cleave that this item creates with your every AA, plus the damage and HP this item provides isn't anythign to scoff at.

Blade of the Ruined King

This item allows Sett to start smacking down big tanks, like it's nobodys business and to catch slipper foes with the slow that BORK provides and the lifesteal is decent in lane.

Spear of Shojin

Spear of Shojin is pretty simple, it gives you good ability haste a bit of speed and the stats are nice.

Sterak's Gage

This is a really good tank item, since the shield will make a good difference in a teamfight and might even allow you to turn the tables in a fight, plus the hp and damage this item gives is really good

Dead man's plate

This item like Youmuu's Ghostblade allows you to gapclose really easily and this is a good item to build with it for that very reason. The armor is nice and when you reach the 100 stacks on Dead man's the damage is nice.

Black Cleaver

In this build not really necessary, unless againts 2 tanks, but otherwise not required since the other items offer more value for what we are going to be doing.

Precision

Lethal Tempo

Lethatl Tempo is okay in teamfights, but amazing for dueling IF you are able to maintain the stacks, since Lethal Tempo gives attack speed per stack allowing you to start punching really fast, also at 6 stacks you get some extra auto attack range allowing you to reach a bit further aswell. You can also use your Q Knuckle Down as an auto attack reset and get 4 stacks rally quick. This is the default choice for this build, but you can take Conqueror if you want to or if you aren't confident that you can keep stacks for your Lethal Tempo!

These are the best minor runes to pick for Sett from the Presicion tree and picking Triumph is the best choice from the first row since the other choices are worthless for Sett, I mean he doesn't use mana so PoM is useless and Overheal isn't worth it at all.

From the second row you will take Legend: Alacrity which is the default choice and the best for Sett. It allows you to get even faster attack speed which is great for sett especially if you're going Lethal Tempo, or you technically can take Legend: Tenacity which is decent, but I wouldn't recommend it.
And from the last row the choice that brings Sett the most value is absolutely Last Stand no questions about it.

Resolve

Surprisingly pretty much every single rune in the Resolve tree is viable for Sett, so you can adapt based on what the nemy comp is, but let me explain the best choices nonetheless.

Demolish is decent. Doesn't offer that much value in fights, but can be taken if you know you can use it consistently throughout the match.

Boneplating is good againts poke lanes, otherwise why would you even pick it?

Overgrowth and conditioning allow you to go tanky Sett which is not what we are doing, but it doesn't mean they are not viable options.

Second wind is great for laning since you can just heal all of the poke with this and your passive which allows you to stay in lane and farm for longer.

Revitalize boosts your W shield which makes it really good in lategame.

Unflinching is probably the best choice to go since this allows you to pick Legend: Alacrity since you don't have to pick tenacity from that row.

Passive:

Sett's passive has 2 parts so let's start with number
1: Sett will alternate punching his enemies with left and right punches. His second punch will deal bonus damage and it has slightly more range.
2: For every 5% health Sett has lost he will gain extra HP regeneration which scales by your level.

Q Ability:

When you activate this ability Sett's next two autoattacks gain extra damage and range (the range doesn't stack with your right punch bonus range) and Sett will gain bonus movement speed towards enemy champions. This ability can be used as an autoattack reset by first doing a left & right punch and then pressing Q and doing the same thing once again.

W Ability:

W Passive: Sett stores 100% of the damage he takes as Grit
W Active: When activated Sett empties his stored grit dealing damage in a cone shape with the damage being dealt as true damage in the middle, Sett also gains 100% of the stored grit as shield that expires within 0.75 seconds.

E Ability:

When activated Sett will suck nearby enemies right to him and they get slowed by 50% for 0.5 seconds. Remember that the edges of your E are longer so you can make sneakier sucks.

Ultimate Ability:

When activated on an enemy Sett will carry the enemy champion forward. This ability allows you to take enemies away from objectives, dive or just as an easy way to get kills

Combos

Sett doesn’t really have any combos per se, but you can use his abilities creatively and improvise on the fly. Also these combos are just simple catalysts for you to follow into other abilities. Use your game senses to utilize these simple combos and make some big plays.

2 AA > Q is an easy combo to do, and it allows you to stack your runes fast. You can also follow into other abilities.

Flash behind an enemy > R is a sneaky combo which allows you to carry your enemies into a more useful spots for you to beat them down.

Q > E > Flash behind > R you are mainly using your Q for the speed boost to catch up, E for the stun and flash + ult for a more favorable spot to fight

E > Max Grit W is a super strong combo because a max Grit Haymaker is super strong allowing you to demolish your enemies.

Gameplan

Earlygame

So for starters when you are in champion select/loading screen getting ready to game you should look at both your and the enemies team and make a quick plan how you want to play your early lane and think about what items you are going.

Remember that pre level 6 Sett is one of the strongest champions when it comes to fighting so you should try to use that fact to your advantage and try to snatch an early lead by gaining lane prio, making enemies do an early recall or early kill, deny enemy farming etc.

Early Sett is also fairly immobile which can make you vulnerable to being ganked so remember to ward, keep track of their jungle and don’t overextend.

Mid & late game

If you have a lead you need to try to keep it up and with this build you are able to go for quick kills, roams and you are a quick splitpusher allowing you to get a lot of gold and destroy turrets. Also remember to go for objectives (Dragon’s and Baron)

If you are behind focus on farming minions more so you can try to catch up. You can still go for roams and remember to help your teams carry with your great CC and natural tankiness to get kills.

Sett has a ton of potential in teamfights because he is tanky, his W is massive and does huge damage especially when you hit the center and the ultimate can help you peel enemies. Also I can't stress this enough you are able to destroy turrets so fast with the Hullbreaker build.
Conclusion

Sett is one of my favourite champions in the entire game and with the change to Youmuu's making it a mythic has motivated me to try some new builds and this was the one i just absolutely fell in love with and hope with this guide that I can share my experience with you all!
