"The three deadliest blademasters in all of Valoran are bound to the house of Du Couteau: my father, myself, and Talon. Challenge us, if you dare."

Hi everyone.

After a Kassadin and a Master Yi guide here's my Talon guide. I'm used to write in-depth guides in order to provide a great theory experience of the champ I write about. I hope this guide will deserve such words.

I bought Talon right after his release. When I started LoL I looked for a hero like that but there were none. I naturally switched to Kassadin who is another assassin-like. Both of this heroes are the ones I masterized the much.

I'm not like all those guys who posted a guide about Talon only one or two days after his release. I dont think you can do something of quality in one day. I waited to masterize him, I waited my tests to be completly finished before I can speak about this amazing dude.

Have a nice read ladies and gentlemen, I hope this guide is going to take you to higher Talon skills.

]Blackberry]Blackberry

Note on the Shyvana's patch: Talon has been nerfed. But it's not a reason to cry, it's the contrary. All the freaking dumbs who were playing him because they think he was some kind of "OP" will now play another champ. It makes us the new generation of deathbringers, the real assassins.

Quoted:
Talon
Rake mana cost increased to 60/65/70/75/80 from 45/50/55/60/65
Shadow Assault cooldown increased to 75/65/55 seconds from 60/50/40

This nerf is less deadly than our Talon. The increased mana cost of Rake is not an issue at all with my set of runes and my masteries. As long as you dont spam your ability you won't run out of mana. The increased CoolDown duration on Shadow Assault is really fair, that was OP. It just makes you think twice before using your ultimate to clean up a wave of minions.

Pros & Cons

Why would you like to play Talon ? I'm going to tell you why you have to play him.

P R O S

• Finally a real, physical assassin
• High burst
• Easy farmer ( Rake)
• A really nice solotoper, middler and bottom laner
• A silencing gap-closer ( Cutthroat)
• Nice AoE damages in Teamfights
• Nice escape mechanism ( Shadow Assault)
• With my set of runes & masteries and my build Shadow Assault has a ~30'' CD
• High chances of getting double or tripple kill
• Kind of resistant even without defensive items
• Own personal Ignite with Noxian Diplomacy

C O N S

• No sustainibility on lane
• Squishy and Melee
• No escape mechanism when Shadow Assault and Flash are on cooldown
• Less efficient in the late game
• Heavy Bruisers take you down ( Wukong, Renekton, Irelia...)
Oracle's Elixir allow them to get you down
• Makes you greedy (=D)

]Blackberry]Blackberry

Final Note: There's not so much Cons because Talon is a really efficient hero in his category. If you like Solotop or Assassin playstyle, he's for you. If you doubt of his capabilities just check out the top ELO US players, Talon is almost always banned.

Runes, Masteries & Summoner Spells

The pre-game elements. Often what the reader is searching for.

I'll make it brief because my choices are simple.

Masteries

Runes

Greater Quintessence of Desolation Greater Quintessence of Desolation Greater Mark of Desolation Greater Mark of Desolation
This gives you 25 Flat ARPen. ARPen increase your damages output all game long. Flat Damages or Flat Hit Points are a waste in my opinion. Flat Damages only gives you an edge early game and Health Point give you survivability. You do not need Survivability, to stay alive you need to kill your opponent before he kills you. Consequently you need damage output.

Greater Seal of Replenishment Greater Seal of Replenishment
Talon's rely on mana to deal damages. Since his mana regeneration has been nerfed it's even more needed. That extra Mana Regeneration allows you to use your abilities whenever you need them.

Greater Glyph of Focus
Talon's rely on his abilities to deal damages. Consequently you need the more CD reduction possible.

Item Analysis

The interesting part of my job. My item build and the explanation of my choices.

Itemization

BLANKAs you can see this is an uncomplete build. This is the core item sequence. I'm not improving The Brutalizer into Youmuu's Ghostblade because the benefits of such an upgrade is kinda useless. The B. F. Sword has no current improve neither because you're not always building the same item, Bloodthirster or Infinity Edge really depends on your needs and your skills. Finally the two remaining item slots are situational, they depends on what game you're playing, who's fed in the opposite team, how much gold you have and so on...

BLANK

Starter

Item Sequence

Boots 300
Health Potion 50
BLANKSuch a perfect starter for a lot of champions. It gives you mobility and sustainibility. Mobility gives you the possibility of being either aggressive either passive/farmer. Health Potion gives you 600 virtual hit points.

BLANKFor those who starts with Doran's Blade. I disagree. You don't need Lifesteal. You do need 100hp but the 3 Health Potions give you 600hp. The only thing that lacks in the Boots starter is the 10 additional damages. But if you farm well it's not an issue.

BLANKIf you are solotoping against a dual lane (what sometimes happen in normal or low ELO games ) try to know who are you going to face. If you realize there's an AD against you (most likely a bruiser) it's viable to start with Doran's Shield but I still reccomand the Boots starter.

Note: I didnt try out enough new starters after the nerf of the Health Potion. I'll update this section as soon as I did. I'm still not sure the Doran's Blade is effective.

]Blackberry]Blackberry

Core

Item Sequence

B. F. Sword 1300
Ionian Boots of Lucidity 950
The Brutalizer 1337
Frozen Mallet 3100

BLANKThis is the moment when the item build order is important. Don't build Frozen Mallet so early. I put it there because it's one of your core item, but the other items are more important for the moment. Buy B. F. Sword as soon as you can, if you can't, buy The Brutalizer. The Ionian Boots of Lucidity have to be bought right after that or you will really feel the lack of movespeed.
BLANKAfter you got them, complete The Brutalizer / B. F. Sword combo and aim for a Phage. You don't have to get Giant's Belt right now. I set Frozen Mallet as a core item because it does gives everything you need (Heatlh and Slow), you will obviously finish it but you can aim for more damages before doing so.

BF Sword

BLANKThe B. F. Sword doesnt need explainations imo, this is the regular burst boost for all AD Champions. Take this as soon as you can, you can even buy this before your [Boots of Speed].

Ionian Boots of Lucidity

BLANKI consider the Ionian Boots of Lucidity as being the best boots for Talon because you're an AD Nuker, you rely on your spells to deal damages. You do need Cooldown Reduction. Considering my runes & masteries, building this boots and The Brutalizer almost gives you 40% decreased CD already.

The Brutalizer

BLANKArmor Penetration, Damages, Cooldown Reduction, everything Talon needs. Despite the fact the activable ability on Youmuu's Ghostblade is kinda wasted on Talon this item is a must-have. At that stage of the game you have 46 ARPen, which means you deal brute damages to almost any champion without Armor items.

Frozen Mallet

BLANKThe Frozen Mallet is there to improve your survivability, it does belongs to the core build because the extra 700 hit points are necessary to get through the mid game without dieing to much (against bruisers for instance). The extra slow is also good since it does activate your passive Mercy.

]Blackberry]Blackberry

Burst

Item Sequence

Bloodthirster 3400
Infinity Edge 3300
Black Cleaver 3000

BLANKYou need to upgrade your B. F. Sword into something more powerfull, nevertheless you have to focus on your real needs. These three items are high DPS items but they all have their own pros & cons.

The Black Cleaver

BLANK Black Cleaver is kinda the weakiest of the three considering the +55AD only. But it's viable anyway. If they have a jungle carry or a hard bruiser (Armor >100 usually) that often focuses you, this item is for you. Just auto attack the target before you actually nuke him down and you will get the maximum potential out of the armor shredding procc thanks to Noxian Diplomacy.

Infinity Edge

BLANK Infinity Edge is the most expansive of the three and not the most cost efficient neither. You do not need the 250% Critical Damages bonus, neither do you need the Critical Chance. Nevertheless it's a really viable alternative to Bloodthirster because it gives 80 flat damages. If you die often, this 80 AD is more viable than the 60 given by Bloodthirster.

The Bloodthirster

BLANK Bloodthirster is the viablest nuke item, if stacked it gives a huge bonus of 100 freaking AD and also provide decent life steal capabilities, what can makes you survive in a lot of situations (attacking a minion to get the 20hp you needed to survive the Ignite for instance). If you ask me you should always get this item. But there's sometimes that kind of game... the kind of game where you die each single teamfight. No matter how you positionnate or what you do, they use Flash they Null Sphere or Nether Grasp you as soon as you appear on their bloody screen. Or you just ****ed up your mid game. In any case you sometime need to rely on a non-stackable item..

Situational Items

Item Sequence

Last Whisper 1450
Atma's Impaler 2300
Trinity Force 3333
Force of Nature 2800
Banshee's Veil 3100
Quicksilver Sash 1300

BLANKI call them "Situational" because the item build with Talon is highly relying on your enemies.

Last Whisper

BLANKMoar ARPen, moar Damages, can we ask for more ? I'm not sure about it. I'm often getting this if I'm going full damages and I have a spare inventory slot.

Atma's Impaler

BLANKAn awesome item for multiple reason. First of them is that it allows you to get a really nice damage output from your Health Pool. Second is that it gives you Armor. This is an Offensive and Defensive items, what makes it perfect for the needs you may have. I get this if I feel squishy and if I know I'm going to build Warmog's Armor.

Trinity Force

BLANKThis item is great, even if it gives AP. This is increase your Mana Pool, your Hit Points pool and the best of all, gives you a nice Damage Procc of 150% what is huge when you have over 300AD and 46ARPen. Nevertheless I'm not sure it's the most efficient item, yes it gives some really good advantages (especially the Damage Procc) but for the high cost I think you can get some other better items. I reccomand to buy this only if you are fed or if you really think you are going to steamroll them.

Force of Nature

BLANKI often prefer this item to the Banshee's Veil because it gives movement speed. Movement Speed means mobility, mobility means you can stay alive longer. Another important point is the +26 MRez it gives compared to the Veil. I often grab this if I feel that the enemy AP Champion wants to focus me or if he's fed.

Banshee's Veil

BLANKA godlike item if you have combo AP enemies. By combo I mean champion that needs their first spell to hit you in order to deal full damages ( LeBlanc, Annie for instance). It is also really useful against tanks that can bump/toss you or so ( Singed, Rammus) because it shut down their ability to engage you.

Quicksilver Sash

BLANKAn overpowered item if you want my opinion. It makes you unCCable, what makes you survive almost all situations (because you are careful, you're not engaging 1v3 etc...). If they have too much CC or if they have Mordekaiser, Vladimir or Warwick, Skarner and Malzahar, this item is for you. I get this when I feel I would survive any teamfight without that damn CC.

]Blackberry]Blackberry

Others

Item Sequence

Sword of the Occult 1400
Warmog's Armor 3100
Mercury's Treads 1100
Boots of Swiftness 900
Berserker's Greaves 1100
Youmuu's Ghostblade 2700

Sword of the Occult

BLANKDon't blame me ! I have to post something on this item. Honestly, if you're in a public game or in a easy ranked game, go for it. Don't get this in a real game, or if you're not used to Talon. But if you are and if you get fed, this is godlike.

Warmog's Armor

BLANKAn item I build if I feel too squishy, even after all this survivability item. You need to build Atma's Impaler if you build this item or else it's not enough cost efficient (concerning your Damages Output).

Mercury's Treads

BLANKReally useful boots. But you are Talon, you need Cooldown Reduction. It's ok to get this boots if they have a really hard CC team.

Boots of Swiftness

BLANKI just feel this is a useless item for Talon. In some case it may be useful but I still think the other boots would be more viable. If they have only speed champions like Master Yi, Singed, Rammus and so on maybe.

Berserker's Greaves

BLANKNo, just no. You are not an auto-attacker, you are Talon the mighty freaking assassin. You one shot people and you get away, you're not right clicking them.

Youmuu's Ghostblade

BLANKYou have The Brutalizer. Either you sell it for another item, either you upgrade it. In my opinion the Ghostblade is not really efficient, the active ability is only useful to catch people, you do not need the extra attack speed. It gives 5 moar ARPen, CDR and Damages, this is nice, but it's not worth the cost. Upgrade it only if you kept The Brutalizer.
