for this guide to work your lane should get some early kills before midgame. even though you should farm alot using
Vorpal Blade the build is very money craving and as such without kills you will be behind. using these runes you can easily survive lane while dishing out tons of damage. the Greater Mark of Desolation are very good to get that last point of damage thats needed for the kill even if you used
Ignite (and that you must do if you are to succeed in lane). the
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist and
Greater Seal of Armorare pretty much self explanatory. the
Greater Quintessence of Health are vital for giving you bonus hp giving you extra early game damage.

defensive masteries gives you all you need. you should probably get utility for the extra experience gain for an earlier
Stand United and extra gold (i know it gives like nothing).

now here is where my build starts to differentiate it self from other shen builds. even though
Doran's Shield is a good item you need all the early damage you can get and cant waste any money on things not in your build. why you ask? well you will need to rush that
Warmog's Armor as fast as you can to get it stacked and to impose yourself as a "hard-to-kill" target for the enemy. the extra damage is however the best reason to stack hp early because after the nerf you will not do any damage without it. the
Sunfire Aegis is just a great item that almost every tank should have since the armor and hp are just perfect. the extra damage is just a finishing touch, and i highly recomend it.
Randuin's Omen is a good item especially in team fights and provides more armor and hp (usually your main stats to build). the
Force of Nature will protect you from those pesky mages harrassing you from the back and allow you to stay with your teamates longer. the extra movement speed also allowes you to rush to the rescue or towerdive or whatever. usually when i reach this point i am as tanky as i need to bee so i buy a atmas impaler to impose more of a threat to the enemy. of course you will have to change the build if the enemy has 4-5 of the same damage (magic/physical) and thus i have included those 2 aswell. i would not recomend them if you are only facing 2-3 of said type since it gives you less of a "punch" so to say.

i max
Vorpal Blade first since
Shen's base damage is usually pretty low and this allowes him to deal more damage. it also improves his creep killing skills by a significant margin. improved
Feint allowes you to tank better for your team and to take harass without any issues.
Shadow Dash is his best ability but is not needed to taunt for so long early to mid game and therefore i level it up last

now last but not least i want to teach you about a jungle route i came up with that tailors shens jungle for this perticular build. what you do is instead of Purchase of a
Cloth Armor and five
Health Potion,s you buy a
Regrowth Pendant and one
Health Potion. you pick the
Vorpal Blade and start jungling at the wolf camp. at that point you should have lost around one bar of your health. then you go and smite the big wraith and kill the small ones. after that you go kill the dual golems and
recall. remember not to use the
Health Potion on the first round you will need it vs blue. you buy
Boots and run down to blue where you pop your
Health Potion and kill it. then you continue to wolf camp and then the wraiths. after that you take the red buff and can go about ganking or continue dual golems and then their blue. this build allows you to build a
Warmog's Armor early and lets you stay in the jungle very long with only 2 items. i would recomend this jungle build over the usual one

in summary this build will get you high level, damage, gold, early items and become an imposing target for the enemy. try it if you dont feel you do a high enough impact while playing
Shen. if you want to help your team directly go try another build.
