Introduction

What's up everyone, it's Mushy here making my very first guide for the champion Tryndamere, The Barbarian King. He is one of the champions that I enjoy playing alot and will never get boring for me also he was the first champion I bought and my first main.

In this guide I will go over alot of things like:

Tryndamere and Pros/Cons!

Tryndamere is a melee AD carry who can do massive amounts of damage. He is mostly played in Solo Top or in the Jungle. In early game he's not that good since he's pretty squishy, but in late game when he finishes his core items like Infinity Edge and Phantom Dancer he can do massive amounts of damage. You can build Tryndamere in alot of ways if you change runes, masteries and builds. Eventough he is a badass barbarian he still has some Cons.

Pros:

  • Tryndamere is extremely mobile.
  • He can do massive damage late game.
  • Great in pushing lanes.
  • Uses Fury which gives him more critical strike chance.
  • Amazing 1 vs 1 fighter.
  • One of the best ultimates.
  • Good slow which also reduces their physical damage.

Cons:

  • Tryndamere is bad early game.
  • He suffers alot from CC.
  • People hate him due to his ultimate.
  • Easily Countered.

Abilities

Ability Set


In this section im going to show you all of Tryndamere his abilities and how to use them to their full potential. I'll also show my ability sequence. Above you can see all of his abilities together but let's start with his passive Battle Fury.

Battle Fury

Tryndamere gains 5 Fury for striking a unit or 10 Fury for a critical strike, and 10 extra Fury for killing a unit. Each point of Fury grants +.35% Critical Chance.

I think that this passive is one of the best passive's in the game because when you get 100 Fury you get 35% Critical Chance. This is why Tryndamere can critical strike so often. Not only does this multiply your damage output but it also makes farming and pushing easier. I see alot of people sacrifising their 35% Critical Strike Chance for Bloodlust which is one of the dumbest things to do when you are playing Tryndamere. Since you only start leveling Bloodlust when you have Spinning Slash and Mocking Shout at level 1 you heal almost nothing. So here is one of the most important things to keep in mind as Tryndamere, keep your Fury at 100 at all times unless you can get it back easily.

Bloodlust

Passive: Tryndamere thirsts for blood, gaining 5/10/15/20/25 Attack Damage plus 0.15/0.2/0.25/0.3/0.35 per 1% Health missing.

Active: Tryndamere consumes his Fury, restoring 30/40/50/60/70 Health (+150% of Ability Power), plus 0.5/0.95/1.4/1.85/2.3 Health per Fury consumed.


I really like Bloodlust and its the skill that you wanna level up as fast as possible. It gives you 5 extra attack damage everytime that you level it which is pretty handy since you get attack damage without going back to buy items. For the second passive you get more attack damage the lower your health is, now this is great for when you are in Undying Rage because you will be missing 100% health during this skill. Which means that at level 5 Bloodlust you will get 35 extra attack damage in Undying Rage.
The active ability is used for when you either have to heal or when you know you can get your Fury back in no time. This will basicly give Tryndamere alot of sustain.

Mocking Shout

Decreases surrounding champions physical damage by 20/35/50/65/80, and enemies with their backs turned also have their movement speed slowed by 30/37.5/45/52.5/60% for 4 seconds.

Mocking Shout is the only skill that can be used as some kind of CC for Tryndamere. It can be amazingly good if you land the slow since it can slow for a huge percentage of 60% for 4 seconds which will give you guaranteed kills. The only down side of Mocking Shout is that the slow will only hit when they arn't facing you. Pro players will try to avoid your slow by facing you for a short duration when they think that you will trigger it. But don't worry even if you miss, you still decrease their physical damage for 80 at level 5. This can be a huge nerf in teamfights for the enemy team. When you have no one in sight but you can still use Mocking Shout than it means that there is an enemy in the range of Mocking Shout, you can use this to find enemies. Overall Mocking Shout is an amazing skill but can be countered.

Spinning Slash

Tryndamere spins through his enemies, dealing 70/100/130/160/190 (+100% of ability power) (+1.2 per bonus attack damage) physical damage to enemies in his path. The cooldown is reduced by 2 seconds whenever Tryndamere critically strikes. Cooldown: 13/12/11/10/9

My favorite skill of Tryndamere, Spinning Slash will make you unbelievably mobile because it only has 9 seconds cooldown and the cooldown gets reduced by 2 seconds whenever you critical strike! Spinning Slash also does a decent amount of damage when you level it up. You wanna use Spinning Slash to chase, escape and sometimes for extra damage. Some people use it to farm but you shouldn't do that to often since it goes on cooldown and I personally like to have it up at all times. Spinning Slash will make last hitting easier early game as well.

Undying Rage

Tryndamere becomes completely immune to death for 5 seconds, refusing to be reduced below 1 Health and instantly gaining 50 / 75 / 100 Fury. Cooldown: 110/100/90.

This is what makes me love Tryndamere even more, Undying Rage lets you go Rambo for 5 seconds which can save your life or to take as many people with you as you can. You wanna pop Bloodlust or Heal just before Undying Rage ends so you don't die to a minion attack or something like Ignite. Don't forget that it also grants you 100 Fury at level 3 so that you get the free 35% critcal strike chance.

I like to use this build when I just want to play save since I use Mocking Shout to reduce the enemies physical damage or to slow them if they run away from tower diving.

Bloodlust > Mocking Shout > Spinning Slash

This build is only good when you are completely dominating your lane becuase this gives you more damage from the spin and the cooldown is lowered by 4 seconds which will make tower diving and chasing easier. This can also be used if ur more a fan of Spinning Slash.

Bloodlust > Spinning Slash > Mocking Shout

So you might be asking, why are we leveling Spinning Slash first? The reason for this is because it will give you the mobility in level 1 fights. This will also help you to get out of the fight if your team is losing, this is imporant since you don't have Flash.

Summoner Spells

Now this is pretty important since it can have a huge influence on your gameplay.
I will tell you what Summoner Spells could be useful for Tryndamere.
I'll also go over some combonations that you could use.

The Summoner Spells which you can consider for Tryndamere are: Flash, Ghost, Exhaust, Ignite, Heal, Teleport, Smite and Cleanse.

Flash is probably one of the best Summoner Spell in the game since it works on every champion and can be used in many ways. I mostly use it to escape but you can also use it to chase an enemy or to dodge certain skills like the ultimate of Ezreal or the ultimate of Nunu & Willump. This Summoner Spell isn't as useful for Tryndamere as for other champions because Tryndamere already has the ability Spinning Slash which is basicly a free flash.

Ghost is just as Flash an amazing Summoner Spell and they kinda have the same purpose. They both are used for escaping or chasing, but I think that Ghost is more aggressive than Flash. I personally think that Ghost fits Tryndamere more but its basicly all personal prefrence.

Exhaust is so good for Tryndamere and i'll explain you why. Exhaust can be used in a lot of different ways, I mostly use it to get kills easily but you can also use it to escape since it slows an opponent for 40% which creates a pretty big distance between you and your enemy. This is why I recommend this over Flash or Ghost. In teamfights you want to use Exhaust on the other AD Carry since this counters him/her completely.

Ignite is a little bit the same as Exhaust since they both are mainly used to get easy kills. But I think Ignite is more for early game when you are talking about Tryndamere since it does the damage for you. With Exhaust you have to do the damage but since Tryndamere sucks when he doesn't have his items he can't get kills with it early game. So if you want early game kills you should get Ignite instead and if you get a combonation with Heal you will get early game kills for sure!

Heal is a pretty good Summoner Spell for Tryndamere. Alot of people will say that this Summoner Spell sucks and that its for bad players but that isn't true at all. This spell will win a 1 vs 1 battle for you and might even save a teammates life since it also heals ur teammates. Heal also makes it easier for you to tower dive and you can use it after your Undying Rage is over to get some health back. Overall this is just underestimated. This will also give you a huge advantage early game so if you want early kills than take this.

Teleport is an okay Summoner Spell for Tryndamere. I have to admit that it can be amazing for other champions but for Tryndamere there's just way better choices. I mainly use Teleport to hold my lane much better and to get to teamfights easily.

I put Smite in the list since Tryndamere has potential in the Jungle but this isn't a guide for Jungling Tryndamere so I won't really discuss this.

Cleanse is an amazing Summoner Spell for Tryndamere since his biggest enemy is CC and this will help you to get rid of it. Some people underestimate this Spell but its really great for any champion who hates CC. This will save you alot of times and might give you kills as well for when you are chasing some one and they use a CC ability.

Now that i've explained why these Summoner Spells have potential and how you can use them im going to show you some nice combonations that you can use.

Ignite + Heal
These two will give you an amazing early game since they grant you survivability and damage output. If you want early game kills with Tryndamere than get this set. Don't get Exhaust since this is only good when you already have some base items.

Exhaust + Cleanse
These two will give you great control over you character since they both help you to get kills but they also help you to get away in alot of situations.

Flash or Ghost + Exhaust
This is really for the people who don't like Cleanse and who really like extra mobility/repositioning even tough Tryndamere already has Spinning Slash.

Smite + Flash
Only use this when you are going to Jungle. Some Junglers don't take Smite with them since they don't need it but this is a big mistake in my opinion. Even if you don't need it you can still use it to steal Baron or Dragon . It will also make your Jungling alot faster. The Flash is better for Junglers because there are alot of walls in the Jungle so you can use extra advantage out of Flash.

These are my favorite combonations but really you can do anything you want and just pick what's best for you.

Masteries

For the offensive tree:

Summoner's Wrath is good if you use Exhaust, Ghost or Ignite.
Brute Force gives you some more attack damage which is always good for Tryndamere.
Alacrity is really good for Tryndamere since he needs alot of attack speed.
Deadliness gives more attack damage, so just like Brute Force .
Weapon Expertise is probably the best mastery for Tryndamere since armor penetration is really important for any AD champion.
Lethality is good for Tryndamere since your going to crit alot.
Vampirism is not the best mastery to get but it helps and is better than Havoc .
Sunder is basicly more armor penetration so very important!
Executioner gives you more damage output.

For the defensive tree:

Summoner's Resolve is good for when you either use Heal or Cleanse. It also gives you a 10 bonus gold everytime that you use Smite but I think that it is useless so you can also put 1 point into Resistance .
Hardiness because it gives you +6 armor, this is good against AD enemies and minions.
Durability gives you more health which is nice and you need it for Veteran's Scars
Veteran's Scars gives you 30+ health from the beginning which is just overall nice.

You can also choose to go 3 points into Resistance and 3 points into Hardiness which will give you an advantage in early game. The extra 2 points can be put into Tough Skin , Butcher , Demolitionist , Summoner's Insight or Good Hands .

Runes

Greater Mark of Desolation Greater Mark of Desolation x9

For Marks I chose Greater Mark of Desolation because they are amazingly useful. Since I don't always get Last Whisper this is good to have. Almost everything in this game has armor so these runes will help you in almost any situation. They will also save you alot of money since all other AD champions like Graves and Tristana use them. There arn't really any other Marks which are better than these. but you can try Greater Mark of Attack Damage and Greater Mark of Critical Chance but I don't really recommend them since Greater Mark of Desolation is way more useful.

Greater Seal of Resilience x9

For Seals I chose Greater Seal of Armor because they give you great sustain against minion attacks and any AD champion. There arn't really any better Seals than these and just like the Marks they save up alot of money since almost any champion can benefit from them.

Greater Glyph of Warding x6 Greater Glyph of Alacrity x3

I put in 6 Glyph of Magic Resist for the early game against champions like Akali and Malphite since they use AP. I chose 3 Glyph of Attack Speed because you don't need 9 Glyph of Magic Resist since there arn't many AP solotop champions. You can put whatever you want here, more flat magic resistance, attack speed or flat attack damage. The Glyph of Magic Resist saves alot of IP as well since any mid champion can use it.

Greater Quintessence of Strength x3

This Quintessence is really good for any AD champion. It boosts your early game damage output and it helps the whole game. These runes are also really cheap since they are 1025 IP instead of 2050 IP. But I think you can also try Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed 3x, Greater Quintessence of Desolation 3x or Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed 3x.

Items and Builds

Finally, we got to the most fun part of Tryndamere, his items. I think that this will be a pretty big section since its the most important thing together with how good you play. Another reason for this is that alot of items work on Tryndamere.

Your Starting Items

I personally like to start with Boots on almost every champion since it gives mobility and it will be upgraded to your next tier boots. Always pick Boots when you are fighting someone with skillshots since it makes it alot easier to dodge them. If you know that your opponent is AD and that he is going to attack you alot than its handy to get Cloth Armor which will upgrade into Wriggle's Lantern. But Cloth Armor will save less money since you are buying 5 Health Potion. I don't like Doran's Blade on Tryndamere since it doesn't upgrade into anything so your going to have to sell it eventually which means you are going to lose a bit of money. Another consideration is Vampiric Scepter since it will upgrade into Wriggle's Lantern as well. The only difference is that you arn't going to buy any Health Potion which means that this will save the most money for you but it won't be as good.

Choosing Boots

These are the three boots that you can choose to get, it all depends on the situation your in. Let's start with Mercury's Treads, if your enemy team has CC than you have to choose these boots because otherwise you will die alot of times because of it. If you are losing your lane to an aggressive AD champion than its best to get Ninja Tabi since you arn't going to win a fight with him, just try to get the least amount of damage and farm. Now if your enemy team has barely any CC and if you can handle your lane than get Berserker's Greaves because they are going to help you in fights alot more. They will give you a higher winning chance when you are fighting your enemy laner.
