He's pretty meh once you get bramble vest. Just be careful not to eat too much poke and you should be fine
Akali
Akali is one of the most frustrating lanes to play into, she has ranged poke, sustain, burst, invisibility, everything! i would avoid if at all possible.
Annie
Her stun is scary, but she can't really out trade you if you engage onto her. Take caution around level 6, and don't eat too much poke
Camille
This is a free lane for you.
If she attempts to poke you with sweeping blade, taunt into her and trade. Save spirit's refuge for the second proc of her precision protocol however.
Cho'Gath
He sustains too heavy for trading to be worth anything, he has two forms of CC in knockup and silence and a ranged poke that deals % max HP damage as well as execute ult. Not a good matchup, but you can win early if you're aggressive enough
Darius
Shen's empowered auto attacks have +50 attack range, Darius's axe spin will likely hit you if you do not micromanage yourself.
Save taunt for his hook as you cannot fight him at max passive, but once he blows apprehend or decimating strike, you can taunt in for a nice trade.
Dr. Mundo
MUNDO'S FILES!
He's tanky, he does a lot of damage, and he has massive sustain.
You have until level 6 to get a lead on him, but that's very hard to do when he farms with cleavers. would not recommend.
Ekko
He can't outtrade you if he misses his Q. His W zone is predictable and the damage on his E is blocked by your w. oh, he can't ult if you taunt him either, so there's that too, just don't eat too much poke
Fiora
This matchup is highly skill reliant, if Fiora is good, she'll always hold riposte for your taunt, so engage isn't an option.
Your best bet is to try and harass her with grasp while farming, and all in her if she ever gets too full of herself and engages on you
Fizz
ah yes, fish.
His passive lets him walk through minions, which is tricky to deal with in lane, his troll pole will likely be up every time you try to taunt him, and post-6 he can one shot you if he gets even a slight bit ahead. Try to harass early on with autos and taunt forward if he ults. it usually works.
Galio
This guy does everything you do better.
ranged poke that does % hp damage, bigger AoE taunt that grants % damage reduction, a knockup gapcloser that also knocks people up, and a global ult that is arguably one of the best followup to an engage. if he gets too close harass him, and don't forget you can taunt him out of ult and/or follow with your own ult
Gangplank
Gangplank is an absolute POS. he pokes you with Parrrrley and has an instant cast global ult that gets him fed from lane. Try to harass him in lane while his passive is down, and go in if he ever uses orange for sustain. although he does damage out the *** he's very squishy
Garen
DEMACIA!
Garen wants to win lane Vs you, so here's my advice: he will likely engage with decisive strike, so w his q, and get empowered autos up, once he starts spinning, taunt backwards and hit him as he spins towards you. you should win that trade. Be careful of his execute however post 6
Gnar
Okay, the little furball is a pain, but not as big a pain as you think. His q has significantly reduced range once it hits a target, so hiding behind your minions you should never get hit by it. most of his damage comes from his w proc, which is blockable with w if he used both hop and boomerang, and he's very squishy. even if you don't land your three auto combo, you should chunk him if you get an engage. his Melee form is all about dancing around his W stun. if you see him cast it on you, taunt through him to avoid it and get a nice trade
Gragas
I haven't seen gragas in a long time, but this fool is annoying as hell. You can block the damage from his drunken rage, but outside of that i don't really have much to say... oh ya, his body slam wins over your taunt, so beware
Graves
His lost cigar is not toplane. You can't win this lane by yourself, but you do a lot of damage and with jungle intervention you can 100-0 him. alone? he's going to kite you for days.
Heimerdinger
42 He knew it!
You can't win, just don't do it. Dodge if you have to. his turret damage is absurd and being a melee champ, he can drop his nade on top of himself for a guranteed stun if you engage, if you don't he pokes you out of lane with turrets and rockets.
Illaoi
Ah yes, the tentacle *****.
Honestly, she has a very straightforward kit: Clear tentacles, dodge e which she will likely try to land while you clear tentacles (literally walk two teemos back). Win lane because she has no tentacles. If she ults just walk out of it also, you won't win in her ult
Irelia
This is really a question of who takes the initiative first, Irelia has a lot of mobility and damage, as well as a stun, but she needs you to be stupid to utilize it. save w for her w, taunt her only when you know you'll kill her in the taunt duration, and don't hesitate to auto her if she goes for farm
Jarvan IV
Most of his damage lies in flag sweep and passive, which can be dodged if you're attentive and blocked for a while using W. outside this it's basically a easy lane for you
Jax
Jax is a pain for two reasons: Absurd early damage for a scaling champion, and one of the best abilities in the game: his counterstrike. If he tries to engage with e q combo, dash through him as he will land on you mid taunt, and you'll hopefully avoid the stun. save your w until he's out of taunt to block his W and you should be fine.
Jayce
Nope.
Just Nope.
He pokes you in ranged form, and outdamages you in melee. just farm under turret, don't get sniped and wait for your jungler
Karma
Ok i honestly don't know why you would play karma top, but engage when she used mantra Q to poke you, as she has no damage spell or immediate CC to save herself
Kayle
This is pretty situational as is with most ranged champions: if you can land taunt you win. with kayle is a bit easier since she's melee for a little while every now and then. engage here, DO NOT ***** OUT or she will destroy you. usually the best time to go for a trade is when her E's about to wear out or have just worn out. Notable shoutout to wits end for being a good here
Kennen
Seems like shen gets trashed by all of his ninja pals, he's ranged which is huge and has a built in stun as his passive. Engage on him and you win tho.
Kled
Holy #&*@ where are we? Kled's one of those champions where his CDs are his everything. if he doesn't have W he's super weak, or in your case, always weak since your w is long enough to completely block all of his w. taunt onto him and combo him to victory!
Lissandra
-sigh- she's a ****ing *****. trade with her when she engages on you or whenever you see an opening, and don't dive her as her root is BS.
Malphite
This time, you're putting the rock between yourself and a hard place. Twilight assault empowered auto at level 1 is enough to break his shield, and all three hits chunk him to 2/3. he doesn't do any meaningful damage if you use your passive shield correctly. just be careful post 6 since he can burst you pretty hard
Maokai
You know how maokai autos people to death? not shen. nope. your empowered autos do a ton of damage to him, and if he engages on you they're empowered guaranteed. Try to save your W for all ins, since it stops his passive from going off, and therefore denies him healing
Mordekaiser
Do people even play morde?
His laning is absurdly strong. his three hit auto does more than yours, and he has a perma shield, a heal and ranged poke that give him... shield. his ultimate will chunk you for around 35% of your max HP and heal him, so always keep that in mind
Nasus
Highly skill dependent matchup. You'll either decimate nasus early on and not let him scale until it's too late, or he's going to scale regardless and start 1v2/1v3 your team. win lane early is all i have to say
Olaf
Dodge axe and you won lane. do not all in him at level 2 without dodge zone or he will wreck you. he's pretty easy to deal with if you you have your dodge zone up, as almost all his damage is from auto attacks.
Ornn
They nerfed his damage, but he still hurts, like a lot. if he uses bellow's breath, taunt through him while he hasn't used the final puff to avoid becoming brittle and losing a **** ton of HP. if you become brittle IMMEDIATELY DROP W as it will stop it from being proced. you can't really win lane, so look for ult plays
Pantheon
He just throws spears at you all day, rush an early chain vest and don't overstay and you should win mid-late
Quinn
I HATE ranged toplaners, and quinn is one of the major reasons why i hate them. she's meant for 1v1ing your ***, so wait till jungle comes and then reap vengence.
Renekton
You remember when renekton used to be good vs shen? those were the days, now all you gotta do is drop w every time he slices towards you to dodge his three auto stun (presumably) and it's like you have skills!
Honestly though, once you have all three abilities you should win every single trade he makes.
Riven
Oooookay, now this is a tricky one.
this all really depends on the skill level of the riven, but you should be able to outtrade her if she engages on you. just taunt her on her second cast of broken wing to effectively silence her third cast and cuck her with the triple empowered auto
Rumble
He does so much passive damage without spectre cowl, so make sure you rush spectre cowl. once you have spectre cowl you can safely 1v1 him and win every trade. just don't stand in his ult like an idiot
Ryze
Ryze is too tanky for you to 100-0 like the other ranged tops here, and he does damage out the *** when played properly. just pick someone else for the job
Shen
... stop playing blind picks
Singed
Singed is going to lane or proxy, if he proxies, farm under turret, pick up a longsword asap and you should be able to one auto the casters; look for ult plays.
If he lanes, rush spectre cowl, and trade with empowered autos whenever you can. he's still squishy pre 6 and you can snag a kill or two if you can execute properly. post 6 the guy turns into a beast, so avoid him when his ult is up
Sion
His entire kit is projected. his shield costs a **** ton of mana and pops with an empowered auto or two, his knockup can be interrupted with taunt, or is slow enough to walk out of, leaving his only real damage threat as his autos and e. stay in front of your minions and zone.
Swain
He's getting reworked, so I'm going to leave this be for now
Talon
first of all, you're a scumbag if you play talon top, and secondly, trade with him after he used rake, and drop w whenver he has three stacks on you DO NOT LET HIM PROC IT or you'll bleed half your HP.
Teemo
Teemo's a wildcard due to the variety builds he can go, but you can burst everything but tankmo, so play as you would any ranged toplaner
Trundle
His healing is a *****, his pillar + zone will basically **** you if he catches you without your w. did i mention that his ult is bs? it's bs. just pick someone else for the job
Tryndamere
Pray to RNGesus he doesn't get two crits off in a row on you, and you should be fine. harass him where you can, and as long as his ult is down you win every duel
Udyr
... why do people play udyr top? whatever.
this little **** can either go ad or ap, if he goes ad with trinity, prepare to drop w at any time he swaps to tiger stance, as he has almost 200% bonus ad scaling on it. if he goes ap, try not to eat too much poke and you should be okay if you don't feed him
Urgot
He outtrades you at every level, and his ultimate is complete ********. Pick someone like tryndamere vs urgit
Vayne
if you play vayne top, i hate you. take exhaust and you should be win trades if she's stupid enough to engage on you. just wait for jungler or pick someone else
Vladimir
He gets free poke from Q, but he's squishy as hell. fight him when he doesn't have his q passive up and you should beat him easily
Volibear
this piece of **** is annoying, not because of his flip, but because of his spammable execute on his w. let him engage on you and you should win given you block his flip with your w
Wukong
He's pretty simple to figure out, if he wants to trade or harass you, it's nimbus strike auto q then decoy, so drop w when he nimbus strikes, and taunt his decoy once his crushing strike register as a dodge to pull the real one hiding behind the decoy out of stealth
Yasuo
He's a ****. but here's how you deal with him: if he ever dashes towards you, taunt and trade with him. since his Q counts as an auto attack, once you drop your w he cannot do any damage outside of his dash to you. bramble vest sends it regards
Yorick
He's tanky, he does damage, he has a good engage/disengage and a better splitpush/siege than you. don't eat mist poke and clear his ghouls, and you should be okay i think
