Food. If he steps up to farm, walk up to him and combo his face. If he gets into lethal, combo him and ignite him. Should die.
Take Conqueror.
Wukong
You really want to fight him when his spells are on cooldown. If he ever E > Q > W''s, go in immediately and get your damage off.
Take Grasp or Aftershock.
Viktor
Holy shit. This guy gets items even if you get ahead in the laning phase. Impossible to 1v1 later because of his effective HP and kiting. Get JG help to shut him down and win lane early.
Take Aftershock so you can scale into a tanky initiator for your team.
Vladimir
He's pretty annoying, but can be killed. The only way to beat him is to go big or go home. E onto him, wait a second. If he doesn't panic pool, stun and continue to fight him until he does. Ult only after he pools so you can continue to fight.
Take Conqueror.
Urgot
Really tanky guy that gets a big shield and an execute. Don't EVER E onto him. He just wins trades long trades. Take short trades if he ever blows his shield.
Take Grasp.
Yasuo
Man, this guy can't even finish his Q when you Q him. You beat him fairly easy at level six. Just walk up to him and start fighting him. Tabis are really good here, and so is an early bramble.
Take Conqueror.
Riven
Oh fucking hell, burn it with fire. She can win the lane off one good trade, but so can you. If she starts bunny hopping towards you for whatever reason, press q an walk away. If she bunny hops for no reason whatsoever, all in her immediately.
Take Aftershock.
Akali
You just can't fight her. It's impossible. She has a 'you can't do anything to me' button for fucks sake. Don't fight her in shroud. Walk away.
Take Grasp OR Aftershock
Darius
This guy's tuff, but so are you. If he apprehends you, you'll have a chance to Q him and avoid his own Q damage. Else, just E into him so you can guarantee avoiding his Q damage. Just DO NOT let the guy five stack you, because then he'll just automatically win unless you can get lethal somehow. Guy's gonna shove you too, so it's a free kill for your JG probably, given your lockdown.
Take Conqueror
Renekton
Guy's most likely going to e into you to do his bread and butter trade. When he dashes forward, q him and walk away. Really tough matchup because this guy is basically you, but is a top laner and has AD ratios.
Take Aftershock
Dr. Mundo
Not too tough early on, but can become hard to manage later. Ideally, find times to auto reset on him with your q. If he oversteps, all in and burst him to 0.
Take Conqueror
Ekko
Guy actually kills himself when he dashes onto you. If he engages, stun him and try to all in. Ult is only thing to be worried about.
Take Conqueror
Fiora
Skill Matchup, actually. It looks like she counter's you, but she'll probably try to stun you too early. Fun fact, your zenith blade puts you BEHIND her. So if she parries in front...you win. All about managing her parry. If ever you e, do NOT immediately stun.
Take Conqueror
Gangplank
You got too many stuns for this guy. Remember, he only gets to orange one of them. Let him push and find a good moment to all in. Don't let him poke you down too much.
Take Conqueror
Gnar
If you're smart, you can win this by 100-0 him once your burst comes online at level six. He'll try to hop away, the trick is to ult him where he lands. He's squishy for a fair bit, so abuse your all in while you can.
Take Conqueror
Illaoi
Before six, easy. After six, hell. Try to get some lead before level six, as you'll win trades before then. She'll most likely take klepto, so abuse the fact she'll greed on thos and go for trades where she needs to make the choice of either hitting you OR her clone. (For the love of god don't position yourself so she hits both!)
After six, you can fake an all in so you can take her ulti threat way, but you might take a lot of damage for doing this.
Take Conqueror
Garen
Guy's pretty tanky, but can be killed with conqueror. You just want to outfight him. Bait his q. Once that's down, take smart trades with your own Q. All in him if your health pool allows (preferably over 80%).
Take Conqueror
Irelia
Not too bad. Dodge her stun. Once that's gone, e in and blast her face to the next dimension.
Take Conqueror
Jax
You gotta be careful. Try to bait out his stun level 1. Once that's done, start taking trades with him. You really don't want to fight him with stun up, that's really it.
He gets a pretty big power spike with his ultimate steroids at level six, so be very careful.
Take Conqueror
Heimerdinger
The 'you're not going to do anything' lane. What can I say. The good thing is you got tons of lock down, so ganking the guy isn't totally out of the question.
Take Aftershock
Aatrox
The World Ender isn't too bad. Just be very careful. If he lands a lot of his sweet-spot q's, things can start to get ugly. Try to take trades when his q is on cooldown, and when he you know he does not have passive.
Take Conqueror
Jayce
Since you have lock down, jayce ain't all that bad, especially since zenith blade puts you behind him. That's awkward for the guy since he wants to knock you away. Look for a good moment to all in him.
Take Aftershock
Kled
Don't ever underestimate a Kled, man. Go for auto reset trades only when his w is on cooldown. He doesn't have a lot of kill pressure without it, but with it, he'll fuck you up real good.
Take Conqueror
Malphite
Ah shit, it's this guy. At least you got an auto reset, so your short trades will be nice. But eventually, the rock will slow your attack speed to shit, so killing him will be a chore. Look to kill him early, but later on, build tanky so you can counter-initiate in teamfight scenarios.
Take Conqueror
Maokai
He's not too bad. Can get tanky, but always killable. Even if zenith blade puts you behind him, he'll still be able to knock you away with how his own Q works. Look for long trades, and all in him when he is in lethal and can be bursted.
Take Conqueror
Mordekaiser
Guy get's shields on shields on shields. It's impossible to burst him, his poke is mean, and his own burst can become ungodly. The good thing? You're definitely more useful than him. Stay safe, wait for JG, and it's a win.
Take Conqueror
Pantheon
Not too bad. Triple bead start can prove really useful here, especially since you just want to avoid fighting the guy until you get some items. Even you outscale pantheon, I'd like to think.
Take Aftershock
Sion
A pushover, although that fully charged Q can be nasty. When he slows you, he'll probably walk up. Zenith blade onto him so you get behind him and start autoing. He'll either complete his Q or cancel, When either of those happen, kill the guy with everything you've got.
Take Conqueror
Kayle
A little bit pokey, and it outscales you to hell and back, but you can definitely kill her. You got the lockdown for it. Look to avoid getting poked, and look for points where you can E in to either get a nice long trade off, or an all in.
Take Conqueror
Rengar
Man, if this guy so much as jumps onto you at level six, put that cat down and make him ult in the other direction. It seems annoying, but the only way to beat the cat is to fight the cat, and guess what, you're going to beat the cat—literally, with a shield.
Take Conqueror
Swain
Annoying, but it's funny when he e's in the other direction when yo zenith blade onto him. Once you lock him down, he's not too hard to kill. Just be wary of his six. He can do quite a bit of damage.
Take Conqueror
Olaf
So you got this guy.
Well shit.
You know what, just dodge. You really don't want to play this lane, you really dont.
Teemo
Yeah, this guy counters everyone, not just you playing Leona top. Don't feel too bad. Just play back, maybe dip into triple beads and just chill and farm. The little dude is gankable, so if your jg is ever top, just call for them and kill the fucker.
Take Aftershock
Shen
He can do a bit of damage, but youll do more with your burst. Out fight the man, and don't let him land that taunt. Make him take a walk with you when he uses his circle thingy.
Take Conqueror
Rumble
He's annoying, sure, like a lot of matchups, but you win by outfighting the little man. Avoid his poke, respect him a bit, and win short trades where you can get your full burst off. That'll get him into lethal.
Take Conqueror
Hello everyone. Given the release of Leona's new skin, I figured I'd resurrect my rendition of an old favorite in the realm of off meta picks. AD Leona top.
Why would you want to pick her? She can snowball quite hard, for one. And not to mention, a lot of people don't understand how to play against her, and thus might disrespect you or mess up versus you. (A good example being when fioras aim their parries completely wrong when you initiate onto them. This is extremely common.)
Another reason is that, even when you are behind, you can still be useful by providing lockdown and modifying your build. If you can't transition into a tanky bruiser, you can still transition into a tanky initiator that builds purely defensive items. You can even dip into some support items, if worse comes to worst.
However, here comes the question. "Is it really viable?" I mean, it can be, but there are a lot of better picks than this. Other champions can do what Top Lane Leona aims to do, but in an easier way. But perhaps the greatest benefit is that people will, most of the time, underestimate you because you are playing a 'support' champion. They will not see your level six burst coming, and will not expect the damage coming from conqueror.
Note: If you 'really' want to do this in ranked, at least get some practice in normals first. Even then, do consider other champions, as you are handicapping yourself by making this pick.
At any rate, off to the guide!
Pros/Cons
Let's start off with the pros.
PROS:
Some of the best CC in the game.
Good dueling.
Has a quadruple auto reset. (auto > Q > auto > Titanic)
Deceptively beefy.
Ridiculous level six burst.
Pretty good at fighting ranged champions due to gap closer and great lockdown.
Gets underestimated about 99.9% of the time.
Can still be somewhat useful even when played from behind.
Scales fairly well with bruiser items.
Permastunning possibility with essence reaver.
CONS:
Can be abused by champions that excel at controlling lane. (Darius, etc.)
Mana problems.
Can get poked out.
Abysmal waveclear before tiamat.
Can't proc passive.
Transitions into either a tank or support when behind.
Gets outscaled in the later game.
Olaf exists.
