I. Introduction

Hey! As I've just reached the 2000 Elo mark I've decided to write my own guide about my main,

The first time I played Shaco I totally fell in love with him.

I started playing Shaco prior to billions of nerfs, when he was unstoppable with( ,Zeke's Herald, and

Then they started nerfing him and I stopped playing him for a while.

Then I saw Reginald´s Shaco and I notion that he is still viable. At this time my Elo was 1200 but because of Reginald and his Shaco I started to Try-Hard.

After 1 or 2 months of training with Shaco I started playing rank and I carried my self from 1200 - 1800 in only 1 month.

Shaco is considered as a pubstomp machine. That is, he is a champion that works really well against unskilled players and/or unorganized teams.
In my Opinion he is very underrated and underplayed by the community.

II. Pros / Cons

+ Great damage output.
+ Snowballs well.
+ Good escape mechanism
+ Strong pusher.
+ He laughs like a Bawsss.
- Hard to master
- Very risky
- Can be easily get countered
- Current metagame makes him less viable
- Very often banned at rank

III. Masteries



3 points on Fury , because you want that extra attack speed.

1 point on Butcher , because as a jungler you want to hit the neutral minions a bit harder, for faster jungling.

3 points in Havoc because of the 2% increase on damage dealt

4 points in Deadliness , because you need Weapon Expertise which gives 8% armor penetration

2 points on Lethality , because it gives you 5% armor penetration + it unlocks Frenzy(i mean the mastery frenzy not volibear's ability) which grants 10% attack speed after landing a critical hit(which is great for shaco's Deceive)

3 points on Sunder , because of the extra armor penetration

1 point on Executioner , because increases the damage dealt by 5% to target's below 50% health(+ shaco's passive Backstab will do some decent damage)


2 points on Tough Skin because you are a jungler and you need to be taking less damage from monsters + it unlocks Bladed Armor which deals 6 damage to any monster that attacks you

3 points on Perseverance(again the mastery not garen's ability), because it grants 6 health regeneration per 5 seconds on missing health

2 points on Hardiness , because its efficient that you should be taking less damage from melee attackers(opponent Ad carry, monsters(neutral & minions), etc.)

1 point on Unyielding , for the very same reason as Hardiness , only that it works for all the opponent enemy champions

V. Runes

6x Armor Pen Marks:

Gives you exactly 10 armor pen.

3x Attack Damage Marks:

9x Armor Seals:

Standard jungle runes.

9x Flat Magic Resist Quints:

So you dont get pwnt by APs early game.

3x Attack Damage Quints:

Along with the 3x AD marks+1 AD glyph this will give you exactly 10 AD.

VI. Summoner Spells


Uses of ghost

When you gank lanes and you have red buff and ghost up no one can flash out. Even if they do flash you will catch them.

Ghost makes you nearly uncatchable you can easily escape the complete enemies team with a good . This is effective when you are split pushing.

Lets you get to a special point at the map quickly. e.g. Enemies doing baron.

Other possibilities instead of ghost

For easier ganks when the enemies have a lot of healing ( )

Really nice spell it reduce the Armor and MR, if you use the Improved Exhhaust mastery, of the enemy and slows so you and your teammate can get more hits off. This can get you an easy firstblood at level 2

VII. Skills

Passive: Backstab

Shaco deals 20% bonus damage when striking a unit from behind.


This passive is strong as long as you use it effectively while ganking and jungling.

This will separate the good Shaco players from bad ones.

Its scales really well with early game if you max it first.

Late game is scales well with .

Q: Deceive

Shaco instantly stealths for 3.5 seconds, and teleports to target nearby location. If he attacks while stealthed, the attack is guaranteed to crit for 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 / 120% bonus damage.

Cooldown 10seconds
Cost 90 / 80 / 70 / 60 / 50mana
Range 500


If you want be a good Shaco you must understand how the the battle will end up and make the decision whether you use as an escape or and offensive skill.

Always try to hit your enemies in the back for the 20% extra damage this can win or lose a battle for your team.

Sometimes it is better to run up with ghost when you gank when their flash is up so you can jump behind him with Deceive, effectively wasting their Flash.

W: Jack In The Box

Shaco creates a Jack in the Box at the target location. It will Stealth after 2 seconds, and pop out when an enemy comes near 300 range, fearing nearby enemies for 0.5 / 0.75 / 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 seconds and attacking them.

It deals 35 / 50 / 65 / 80 / 95 (+20% of ability power) damage, and lasts 60 seconds while stealthed or 5 seconds while firing. Casting Jack In The Box does not break stealth.

Cost 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 75 mana
Range 425


Maybe the best ability that Shaco has.

Using this ability effectively takes a high amount of skill. This ability is used differently each and every time depending on the situation.

There are a few different ways to use boxes: stacking, spreading them out, and putting them at key locations to use as temporary wards.

Early game the boxes do a **** load of damage and can easily get you a kill if you stacked them at the right location.
Late game they can be easily shut down by AoE spells so spreading them out is much more effective.

Before you do baron or dragon spread some boxes around, this can give you some kills when the enemies try to stop you.

Drop boxes over walls to give sight for you and your team.

Boxes fear your enemies for 0.5 seconds but you can extend the fear when you spread some boxes in this location.

E: Two-Shiv Poison

Passive: While Two-Shiv Poison is ready to cast: Shaco's attacks poison his target, reducing their movement speed and chance to hit by 20/22.5/25/27.5/30% for 2 seconds.

Active: Deals half weapon damage + 50/90/130/170/210 (+100% of ability power)(+1.0 per bonus attack damage) Damage to target enemy, and poisons them for 3 seconds.

Cooldown 8 seconds
Cost 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 mana
Range 625


This spell is really good to finish an enemy off, also it can help you do burst your enemies down.

Remember that this skill got a nice passive slow when it is off cooldown.
So try to wait till your enemy will die for sure before you use it or when they run/flash out of autohit range use it so you can catch up again with the active slow.

When you have blue you can poke with this skill really well, but don´t use it too often when you don´t have blue because you will run out of mana very fast.

R: Hallucinate

Shaco stealths for half a second and creates an illusion of himself nearby, which deals 75% of Shaco's damage and receives 50% increased damage. (Deals half damage to turrets.) On death, the illusion deals 300 / 450 / 600 (+100% of ability power) magic damage to nearby enemies.

Lasts up to 18 seconds.

Cooldown 100 / 90 / 80 seconds
Cost 100 mana
Range 250


This spell is very tricky.

You can do so many different things with this ultimate. You can dodge particles like Karthus' ultimate,
you can use it to escape by sending your clone in another direction then your self, you can use it to do melee damage while fighting or pushing.

It has great early-game AoE burst damage when it dies/expires.

You can use this ultimate to tank towers while pushing or when fighting Baron/Dragon.

When fighting Dragon then let your ultimate tank for you and position your self in the back of Dragon so you do more damage.

VIII. General Gameplay Tips

Shaco is a great 1v1 champion. Use effciently, place a where your opponent is gonna walk aswell as popping and immediately, or save your to dodge skillshots like Ezreal ult, Ashe arrow, Cho'Gath W/Q, aswell as Malphite ult.

Don't use unless you have red buff, or another way to slow your enemy with auto attacks, save incase enemy dashes or flashes away.

Shaco is never a 5v5 team fight initiator, unless you are absolutely CERTAIN that they don't have an Oracle. Still very risky, but its better in few cases if you want to kill off one of the easy squishies in the front.

Pushing is one of the most essential factors of playing shaco. Shaco has deceve making him almost ungankable. If you're able to avoid team fights by forcing a more valuable opponent to defend against your pushing. It is more beneficial because shaco excels in 1on1 situations. Whereas, it is more likely that the champion defending is more valuable in a team fight.

IX. Early Game

Early game is all about jungling and ganking.

If you fail early game you will have a very hard time the rest of the game.
But successful early ganks can snowball very easily into a win.

Shaco has very high control over the early game just because his presence.

The enemies will fear a good Shaco and hug their tower and start losing experience and gold while your team get free farm.

Shaco can counter jungle very well an destroy the enemy jungler's game very effectively and turn a 5vs5 in a 4vs5.

Also he can solo dragon very early in the game with his ultimate.

Shaco shines early in the game just because his awesome ganking power that strikes fear into the hearts of his enemies.

X. Mid Game

You should still clear the jungle and gank when ever it's possible.

Gank lanes that offer the best chances to yield kills or lanes where you can take down the tower.

Dragon Control:
When you see the other jungler tries to gank a lane you can wait in the near and counter gank.
Most of the time this will give your team some nice gold.

Baron Control:
When you got fed early and finish your you can tell your team to gather at baron and take it.
But before you take baron check the area for wards.

XI. Late Game

Shaco gets weaker as the game gets longer, but he is great at split-pushing but his is very weak in teamfights. He can be easily shut down, because of his low base stats.

His damage output is still very good, but he need to be in melee range to do damage.

Late game you should concentrate on pushing/backdoor.
Also its very important to take control over Baron.

You can bait the enemies and trap them at Baron with your boxes.
