Well, if you guys plan on treating this website as a business more than a community and decide to make changes like these without running it through with the community (I mean, why not just ask what features people would pay for instead of "figuring what's best"?) then I don't really see this place as the same it once was.
Things change, things evolve and paid promotions were the last thing I wanted to see from a community I was so close to, especially when it's done so lifelessly.
But I guess we can't all be happy. Anyways, might want to clear up the original post so people don't come with a billion misconceptions.
And I hope this business ends up more successful for you guys, I guess.
EDIT: tl;dr - this feels like betrayal.

I think you missed the part where I was - quite clearly - joking, we obviously didn't get paid specifically to promote this. I figured as much would be clear given that you noted in your last comment that Mowen's response showed she still cared for the community, but I apologise nonetheless for causing confusion.
The feedback regarding community involvement before the release of a system like this is valid, and I'll be sure to pass that on; unfortunately, I wasn't involved closely enough to comment on whether or not this was something the devs considered but decided against or simply didn't deem to be as valuable as some of you guys clearly do, but either way it's worth mentioning. Thanks for the feedback :)
Edit: as for the misconceptions, I should note there are separate Support threads about some of the newly introduced features here, here and here, I'll discuss adding those to the post with Mowen.

So who was involved? Obviously Matt, Flash and Mowen, but were there any actual MobaFire users who were involved in the design process of this feature?
In terms of more suggestions, I think you should be able to sort members by prime membership. Also, prime members should be acknowledged for supporting MobaFire via a portal on the front page or wherever that cycles through the members - so extra exposure for those people and their content.

To me Mobafire Prime looks like a donation button at the bottom of a Twitch stream or I guess it's more like a Twitch subscription, it's voluntary. I don't think anyone should be upset about it existing as one doesn't lose anything if it exists. It's just a way to support the site.
The presentation of MFN Prime looks sloppy however. Prime is supposed to be for the community so I think the community should have been part of the creation progress (test group/asking for opinions on features etc...) like Prime is being promoted out of the bushes as a unfinished product which seems kinda strange to me but in the other hand it's still mostly a way to show appreciation/support for the site so it shouldn't matter too much.
I don't really have a opinion on MFN Prime yet, partly because it's still in creation progress but it's not harming the casual user's experience so I'd say it's a good feature on first sight, especially for those who have wanted to support the site more than just being part of the community or just creating content.

"A person giving you advice isn't perfect and has their own shortcomings but they may give you the piece that you're missing."
Seriously the commend button needs to be not in the post, it looks as if everyone put a "paypal donate button" in their posts and it should be as discrete as +rep, especially since it's going to be much more rare to commend a post anyway.

Thanks to FatelBlade, JEFFY40HANDS, Nyoike, TheNamelessBard, GrandmasterD, aviseras and koksei for the awesome signatures
So this is basically pay for advertising/attention for guides and streams.
Because who cares about skill or dedication, just pay to become prominent.

Spare a few Rep+ for the poor ( つ◕◡◕)つ

I don't think you have noticed a single commendated guide on the site which brings me to my point - it's not really a effective way of promoting a guide as you only get a icon next to your guide. Most of the traffic for guides come from google searches like "Amumu guide" or simply from the "top rated" list in Mobafire guide search.
Pretty sure people who have put effort in their guides will still get most of the views.
You need to log in before commenting.
That's how it works, users can still view the hidden comments if they want to:
Apart from the robot part that's not far off :^)
In all seriousness though, some of the responses which we've given more than once in this thread are mostly a result of people seeming to misunderstand how certain features work, we obviously want to make sure it's clear to everyone. If someone fully understands the system and still doesn't really like it, that's perfectly fine. As FlashJ already mentioned (page 2), the intent is not to take away from the experience of "free" members.
