Hello and welcome to the MOBAFire Patch Summary - 6.12!
This is the "ARAM patch" as it includes a number of changes that are exclusive to the Howling Abyss, but we've also got some mainstream champion, mastery and item changes for those of you who prefer the classic League of Legends experience. Also worth noting that the /remake feature launches in this patch (testing in NA for about a week before going live in other regions), which allows you to cancel a match if there is an afk in the first few minutes.
Check out the full patch notes for details on any changes that interest you.
Champion Updates
WTF DID THEY DO TO MY CHAMPION?! quick access for concerned players
There were only a few champion changes this patch, so we can go over all of them. We'll start with the Corki buff which knocked a full 6 seconds off of his rank 1 Valkyrie, though its cooldown is a little longer at rank 5. Gatling Gun also received a buff to its tick rate and total damage, allowing Corki to fully debuff enemies within 2 seconds rather than 4.
Fizz received some nerfs, mostly targeted at his tanky bruiser build. Seastone Trident now deals 6% of the target's missing health over 3 seconds at rank 5, rather than 8%. Playful / Trickster's cooldown is also 2 seconds longer at all ranks, making Fizz's team fighting a little riskier.
Syndra got some buffs to her ratios on Force of Will and Scatter the Weak that were intended to improve her late game scaling, especially once her ultimate is down in team fights. Xin Zhao was also buffed, gaining 9 base health and 5 health per level on his base stats.
Finally Shaco and Zed received some visual changes. Backstab now shows its damage separately when applied, so Shaco players can be sure if they're behind their target and getting the bonus damage or not. Zed has some new circular team indicators on his shadows Living Shadow and Death Mark, making them more visible and easier to distinguish if there is more than one Zed in the game.
Item Changes
Ah, the return of "+5 AD" and "-5 AD." Most of the item changes this patch are tweaks to ADC (or Marksmen) itemization, improving the slot efficiency and scaling of builds that should result in a strong late game. Infinity Edge and Essence Reaver were buffed by 5 AD while Lord Dominik's Regards and Mortal Reminder received 10 AD. Youmuu's Ghostblade was nerfed by 5 AD, which Riot hopes will make it less of a catch-all item and more focused around armor penetration.
Finally, Rod of Ages, Everfrost and Turbo Chemtank (the three upgrades of Catalyst of Aeons) have all had their mana-to-health conversion ratio nerfed from 25% to 20%, reducing the amount of health sustain available to champions building one of those items (usually RoA).
Mastery Changes
Damage was increased by 0.5% while healing was reduced by 1.0%. Since the damage scales off maximum health and the healing is lower, this should be less attractive on damage-heavy top laners while still being solid on tanks (without giving them quite as much lane sustain).
Abilities now only grant 1 stack instead of 2. Melee attacks still grant 2 stacks, but in general it'll be more difficult to reach maximum stacks quickly without actually having attack speed.
The penalty for ranged users has been removed, so this now grants the full 3% damage increase (along with 1.5% increased damage taken) to all champions that take this mastery. This is meant to make this mastery more competitive with Feast on ranged champions.
This mastery now gives more stats early, but scales to the same numbers by level 18. At rank 5, You'll get 2 AD and 3 AP at level 1 while gaining 0.45 AD and 0.65 AP per level. This should be a nice early game boost for champions that don't value Vampirism very much.
Changed from 9 health per rank to 10, totaling 50 HP from 45 HP at rank 5. This should make it a little more competitive with Runic Armor on champions that don't synergize with the latter.
Howling Abyss Changes
Chime spawn rate changed from every 50 seconds to 40 seconds.
Grants 6 stacks for all unit kills with Q regardless of unit type.
Each soul captured counts as two souls instead.
Mark/Dash had its cooldown increased by 8 seconds and its width was decreased from 100 to 80 to better match its visuals.
Clarity's cooldown was reduced from 180 seconds to 144 seconds, but now restores 50% of the user's max mana and 25% of max mana to nearby allies, rather than 40% max mana to the user and their allies.
ALL other summoner spell cooldowns are reduced by 40%.
Homestart: For the first 5 minutes of the game, leaving the fountain grants a 50% movement speed buff for 10 seconds
Experience and gold pacing are tied less to kills and CS respectively, which should lead to closer games.
Health packs give much less mana and respawn 20 seconds slower.
Champion mastery points may be earned in matchmade games on Howling Abyss and Twisted Treeline, but these games will not award champion mastery tokens for mastery levels 6 and 7.
Oracle's Extract costs 300 gold (from 250) and now persists through death. Traps will be revealed as normal, but nearby hidden units will be indicated as untargetable red silhouettes, similar to Sweeping Lens.
Guardian's Horn is replacing Doran's Shield and now costs 950 gold. It provides 150 HP and 20 health per 5 seconds. Damage taken from champion basic attacks and spells is reduced by 12. No longer has an active.
Guardian's Hammer replaces Doran's Blade and also costs 950 gold. It provides 150 HP, 15 AD and 10% lifesteal.
Guardian's Orb is the replacement for Doran's Ring and -- you guessed it -- costs 950 gold. It provides 150 HP, 30 AP and 10 mana per 5 seconds.
