On gamescom I asked a Riot member what the counter to Yorick is and he said Renekton.
For the record, this proves nothing. Riot doesn't know their own game as well as pro players do. Most Rioters aren't very high elo.
Thanks to Jovy for the sig!
Decompose works on Yoricks minions. HUR DE GURR. Plus with all the slowing/speeding up you do that ridiculous early game trade makes kiting for yorick nearly impossible. Thats the best one i've found so far, although i freaking hate laning against a super aggressive Singed for whatever reason. Idk, i just get out farmed and out sustained in lane (sustain as far as mana goes, not health). He can't *kill* me, but he seems to always scale better into late game if he is a good singed player. But again, that's abut surviving the lane, not winning it. Early ganks are the #1 way to do it, and Cho'Gath has just as much sustain, and Renekton doesnt care about yorick's kiting. And i am a fairly firm believer that if you are aggressive enough with Olaf and are REALLY GOOD at landing Undertow you can win ALOT of lanes you shouldn't be able to.
Hey, if you liked any advice i gave, be sure to +rep me! Oh, and check out my Shaco and Maokail lorecraft in my Blog! I'm a starving artist in need of attention, so please feel free to read, respond, and critique me! Please? Anybody that leaves a comment (good or bad) will receive a +rep!
Phreak is the exception as are like...2 other Rioters (I think) to what Psi said.
But for the most part they make the game and WATCH/LISTEN to what pros do then they (more often than not) adjust things they see as "too strong".
Examples:
Rengar's planned (or did they hotfix it already?) AP ratio reduction
Janna shield/movespeed nerfs
Corki Valkyrie CD
Ezreal's Essence Flux base damage/width
Graves's Quickdraw/Buckshot/True Grit (not all at once but adjustments that have been made
Alistar's Headbutt range.
There is more, but ideally Riot simply pays attention to what happens in tournaments and does their best to "re-crunch numbers" in order to provide a more balanced gaming experience.

Because Udyr will survive, not win.
He can't trade at all without running straight up to him and Yorick will kite him way before he does that.
Sure Udyr has the shield, but it's not like you're going to have it up all the time.
But wouldnt you say laning against yorick is more about surviving rather than winning, thatsmwhy cho gath is good, he can sustain well enough to survive
