3 years ago, 11 november 2017, I created an account on a certain site with League of Legends guides...

I had stumbled upon a certain guide, Jhoijhoi's Guide to Making a Guide. I was like "oh creating a guide sounds fun, let's try it maybe." Brave but foolish, without any writing or coding experience, without actually having much experience with the English language and while only having played the game for barely half a year, I laid the first small foundation of what would become my first gaming guide on the internet. The development of the very first iteration of Don't Mess With The Tree began.

After a few weeks of writing (mainly on my phone), my Maokai guide was released 28 January 2018. Looking back at it, I'm kinda embarrassed of how bad that first iteration was xD. But hey, everyone has to start somewhere.

During the first half year, I barely got any views and votes. But suddenly I got to know about the MOBAFire Guide Contest for the first time. Seeing all those beautiful guides gave me the inspiration and motivation to properly start writing again. Additional information and the first (rather basic) visuals were added. Surprisingly, the guide started gaining some notion out of the sudden.

In the next few months I released 2 additional smaller guides, a Malphite jungle and a Nautilus jungle guide. But my Maokai guide remained my best effort as every update made it more comprehensive.

Then the MOBAFire Season 9 Guide contest was announced. I didn't expect to have a chance at all against all those experienced guide writers, so I didn't pay much attention to it. A part of me was secretly hoping for a honorable mention, but it felt impossible.

Fast forward to the morning of 8 January 2019, I got a notification of an email on my phone. "MOBAFire Season 9 Guide Contest Winner". I was almost in shock as I checked the site and found the announcement. Don't Mess With The Tree ended up winning in the jungle category. That was a really pleasant surprise.

But after the contest win, I wanted to prove that this wasn't a one-time lucky thing. That's why I wanted to write a new guide during summer, a work that would expand on my writing craft and take it to the next level. It resulted in my Shen guide; From The Shadows.

August 14 2019, something even more unexpected happened. Through a community post, I found out I was promoted to the rank of Veteran for apparently having a positive impact on the community. I felt (and still feel) really honored!

It ended up being a lucky week, as on 20 August my Shen guide won in the MOBAFire Midseason 9 Guide Contest in the revival category!

During the next few months, I brought my Maokai guide on the same level as my Shen guide through a large update. I expanded on the multi-role aspect by adding everything about support Maokai, since apparently I was getting known as one of the few multi-role authors. A new title for the guide; Nature Strikes Back, ended up being predictive as it won in the MOBAFire Season 10 contest in the toplane category 21 January 2020!

After a crazy and busy first half of 2020, summer came around and I suddenly found myself with time and the want to write once again. It was time for a new challenge. I just had to take the multi-role aspect to another level. This resulted in my Taliyah guide; One Stone at a Time, including all 5 roles.

The biggest shock in my MOBAFire career was actually yet to come. The 5th of August, I received a message from admin Hades4u, inviting me to become a moderator on the site! I was overjoyed, so of course I took on this new role on the site I love. A few days later, it became official!

A few weeks later, there was already other good news! My new Taliyah guide won an award in the MOBAFire Midseason 10 Guide contest, this time in the midlane category!

And now we're 11 November again. Today I officially have been a member on the site for 3 years. I couldn't be happier with those past 3 years. This site and its community has positively impacted my life in many ways. So thank you to this amazing community and the admins who make all of this possible! And of course also a huge thank you to the amazing moderation team!

Finally I want to do a little shout-out to some amazing people here:
  • PsiGuard - Thank you for all your kindness, your support and for being a role model to me when it comes to guide writing. You're one of the biggest reasons why I have become a half-decent writer!
  • Fruxo - It's always a pleasure to talk to you, about the game, guides or just in general. And thanks for always being supportive!
  • Katasandra - Where do I start? Thank you for your guide criticism, table coding help, the League games together and for just being a chill ( Lissandra main after all hehe) person in general! So to show my gratitude I payed Riot to create the Dark Cosmic Lissandra skin.
  • Hades4u - Definitely one of the most friendly and wholesome people around! It's amazing working and discussing with you!
  • Wicked Cherry - Thanks for being such a kind soul! :)
  • Jovy - It's nice to talk to you and cat pictures are always appreciated!

This list could go on, but this blog post is already getting way too long xD. Finally also thank you to the friendly people of the MOBAFire Discord!

Thanks for reading and have a nice day! Let's make the years to come even better than the past 3!

Thank you.
