Introduction - Time to Feed...
Hello there summoners TritonJak here! Today I bring to you a guide to the previously useless champion
Evelynn!
This guide is aimed at those looking to have a bit of
fun while playing
Evelynn while at the same time doing well within your game. I cannot say with complete certainty that you will carry your game but, if you have a competent team you will do well.
This guide is lean and mean (kinda like Evelynn herself) but I feel that it still contains the most important information relating to you, the summoner. If there was no description of the ability, please hover over the image to see the description.
Please leave a comment on my guide with constructive feedback so I can improve it as this is my first guide and I'd like to give back to the wider LoL community :D
P.S. If you are a returning user or have read this guide before, definitely use the table of contents for ease of navigation =D

Beginning with the Offence tree, I opted to place 21 points into the tree to get the oh so amazing
- benefit of having
Executioner
- AP options for the increased CDR and the Mpen
The biggest and most influencing factor in choosing this tree is the
6% extra damage that we deal to targets below 40% health. It may not seem like much, but pairing that with the two points in the havoc mastery, we see that the
7% extra damage can go a long way in helping us finish off those low health targets. With
Evelynn the main idea is
playing smart, but playing aggressively. There is no place for passive gameplay.
Moving on to the Defensive tree, we take 3 points into
Resistance
to
gain that slight
early game boost to help us develop from the early game into the mid game.
Finally we take the last few points that we have and place them into the Utility tree. These points will help us with our summoner spell
Flash, as well as
giving us a higher mobility (
Swiftness
)
and mana regeneration (
Expanded Mind
). These will help us throughout the early game and provide us with the mana sustain to harass and last in the lane a bit longer.
Runes~If you're not lv 20+ don't go here!
As stated above, if you aren't lv 20 you shouldn't even be reading this! You can only get the good runes at 20.

So, you've come across the use of runes in LoL? Perhaps you have read
this guide by

Marks~~For marking the target
Greater Mark of Magic Penetration We choose these runes to provide us with the
early game dominance over the other mid laner. There are no other viable runes to use in the
marks as they
are primarily
aggressive runes.
Evelynn is a AP or AD character and as a result can build either way. However, seeing as this is a build for AP laning
Evelynn we shall accept no other rune.
SPACE
Alternatives for these beastly runes could include
Greater Mark of Hybrid Penetration.
SPACE
SPACE
Seals~~For sealing their fate
Greater Seal of Armor. These runes are so
versatile they really
have no downside, only alternatives. We choose them on
Evelynn because her fighting style/kit involves
getting to within melee range, destroying the enemy, and getting out. These runes will help
ensure that we get out alive. They provide us with a hefty armor bonus of 12.69 which brings your
early game armor up to 25.1! This means that not only do
you become more resilient to
harass from the enemy champion, but
damage from minions, turrets and other sources of
physical damage (including ganks)
become lessened significantly owing to your boosted early game armour.
SPACE
Alternatives to these runes could include
Greater Seal of Scaling Health.
SPACE
SPACE
Glyphs~~For carving their death on the wall
SPACE
SPACE
Quintessences~~For doing it all over again
SPACE
Summoner Spells~Flash and Burn that's the strategy
Flash
The
most versatile spell in the game. It
gets you into battles (or though more commonly) it
gets you out when you need out
THEN AND THERE. We take this to
flash over walls and make escapes where otherwise
Dark Frenzy wouldn't be enough.
SPACE
SPACE
Ignite
This
nasty DoT spell makes
netting fb and your kills, much easier. The fact that it
deals true damage and
halves effective healing means that it can be the deciding factor between that early game health potion giving them
life, and
their death.

Other honourable mentions
Minor descriptions below:

Spoiler: Click to view
These two spells are also a good pick on
Evelynn.
Cleanse *replaces ignite* will
help you alongside your
Dark Frenzy to escape. This will allow you to continue your
guerilla tactics against the enemy or more likely,
survive a gank. Overall although it became popular for a short while, there is still nothing wrong with carrying a
QSS (
Quicksilver Sash) for free without taking up item slots.
Teleport *replaces ignite* will
increase your map control and
mobility greatly. This spell will allow you to return to lane with minimal loss of CS (creep score) and
be everywhere on the map
at once :D. With this skill and your
Lich Bane you can backdoor towers quickly and disappear again. Teleport could also allow you to help
set up ganks as well and combined with your stealth they
literally won't see it coming until it is too late.
Ghost *replaces flash* will allow you to have
increased movement speed. Thanks to
Summoner's Wrath
the movement speed
bonus is increased to
35%. This means that if you have all your
movement speed items
at maximum with this build, your ms
will be a
MASSIVE 725.2!!! This is nearly double your movement speed!
Ghost also
allows you to avoid unit collision so
run through your minions when fleeing or chasing.
Exhaust |
Experimental |
*replaces ignite* will allow you to shut down an enemy champion for 2.5 seconds. With the improved mastery
Summoner's Wrath
this will also
reduce their armor and magic resist. I do not think that this is as viable as some of the other spells as you are going to be nuking them and they won't have the time to retaliate. Also seeing as it now only reduces AD carry's AD by 30% there are better alternatives.
Barrier |
Experimental |
*replaces flash* will provide you with a
powerful shield for 2 seconds that will
protect you from near death experiences with the enemy. It can be used either
offensively or defensively. If you are planning to dive them underneath their own tower, you can pop this to initiate and then use your
Agony's Embrace to have another shield to leave safely. Overall a
very versatile spell that
unfortunately would replace your flash as it had to be replaced by another equally versatile spell.
SPACE
Other Summoner Spells have their times and places, however none are as viable on
Evelynn in mid lane and as such, they will not be discussed here.

(Passive): The new iconic skill of Evelynn, this will allow you to roam the map without them finding you and allow you to remain in lane a bit longer. Don't forget that while you're stealthed, you regenerate mana!So if you are running a bit low in lane, just go invisible and wait a few seconds to continue the fun! |

Tips and tricks
- Be careful of the pink
Vision Ward, they can out-range your stealth and reveal you to nearby champions.
- You can fake going back to base, stealth and then return to surprise your enemy as the time to restealth is shorter than the time it takes to return to base.
- A red puff of smoke appears when
Evelynn stealths to indicate her new status.
- Placing items such as wards do not break her stealth! So be sure to ward fervently.
- Do not worry so much about
Oracle's Elixir as it only has a range of 50 more than your stealth. They would've seen you coming no matter what.
- Abilities such as
Sonic Wave / Resonating Strike,
Destiny,
Bushwhack / Pounce,
Yordle Snap Trap,
Living Artillery, etc. can all reveal you through your stealth so be on your guard when facing champions who have reveal abilities such as these.

Hate Spike
SPACE
SPACE
|
|
|
S |
(Q): The main skill of Evelynn. When playing, remember to SPAM THIS SKILL! It deals a substantial amount of damage (even after two hits) at max rank! It is cheap and fast for a reason. |
S |
|
SPACE
Tips and tricks
- This skill can be used to secure your farm/CS as it is cheap to use and can hit more than one target.
- Remember that this skill scales off both ap and ad damage. It will hurt them a lot more than you think. (Especially mid game)
- This skill can be used to kite melee champions effectively.
Hate Spike will target in this order: (most recent target)>(Lowest health target)>(Champion)>(minion).
SPACE
SPACE
Dark Frenzy
SPACE
SPACE
|
|
|
S |
(W/Passive): A nice ability that allows you to have a strong early game presence. The increased mobility allows you to dodge most skill shots if you are able to react fast enough and allow you to counter while doing so. The passive and the active synchronize well together and allow you to weave in and out of team fights effectively, working together to allow Evelynn to get in and get out in a flash. |
S |
|
SPACE
Tips and tricks
- Like
Ghost, this ability allows you to avoid unit collision, use it to catch up to, or flee your enemy by running through minions and allies.
- You can generate a LOT of movement speed with this ability, make sure to keep your stacks on this ability high to maintain a higher speed.
- Remember that killing or assisting in the killing of a champion will refresh this ability's cooldown, so you can use it to get into a fight, and then get out again.
- This is your escape ability, apart from
Flash or
Ghost. Remember that this ability also removes slows so make sure that you use it to escape the soft CC. However, slows applied after you have activated
Dark Frenzy still apply.
SPACE
SPACE
Ravage
SPACE
SPACE
|
|
|
S |
(E): Ravage is a powerful nuke that instantly deals damage. Contrary to what it says on the tooltip, the full damage is actually 70 / 110 / 150 / 190 / 230 (+1.0 per ability power) (+1.0 per bonus attack damage)~Sourced from the LoL wiki. |
S |
|
SPACE
Tips and tricks
- Ravage is your largest nuke, striking twice and then proc'ing your
Lich Bane will cause you to deal 'tons of damage'. Doing this while spamming
Hate Spike and then escaping with your
Dark Frenzy will be a very high damage harrass. Rinse and repeat to take down and finish off your enemies' health.
- A large attack speed bonus is bestowed upon you upon the use of ravage. You can also use this with
Lich Bane to take down towers fast. This is also helpful in securing blue buff.

SPACE
AGONY'S EMBRACE
SPACE
SPACE
|
|
|
S |
(R/Ultimate): This is one hell of an ultimate! A large, AoE nuke that not only damages and slows, but turns that damage into a shield which is what makes the new Evelynn so nice. Landing this on the enemy team gives increadible survivability. At most, a 1500hp shield allows you to get in and out of the fight while nuking them hard. This also makes you more resilient to possible damage if the fight does not work out as well. Overall this is one ultimate that will definitely make teamfights "all too easy". |
S |
|
SPACE
Tips and tricks
- This ultimate can be used on single target champions (single champions) as it is your only source of CC and although the shield is less, you will be often taking them off guard, and thus the shield is sufficient at all ranks.
- The timing of this ultimate is important. Advice would be to wait until the tank has initiated and the team fight has begun before coming in to nuke their team. Then pick the highest value target, either their AD carry or their AP carry and focus them to death. The shield given will help you survive and appear very tanky, as well as giving you the momentary survivability to take down that carry. Without them, their team would become significantly weaker.
- Remember that this ability deals damage = to a % of their CURRENT HP, this means that no matter what, the damage will not be enough to kill. Be aware of this.

THE ULTIMATE SKILL IS MAXED FIRST~NO EXCEPTIONS
Hate Spike is 'maxed first' as it is a cheap spell that can deal
a lot of attrition damage. It can harm the enemy champion while farming and is overall a very effective, low cost high dps skill over time. It also has decent AP ratios and
allows you to harass while you farm (dealing damage while you deal damage).
Secondly, you should seek to max points into
Ravage as it is a nice single target nuke that can still break spell shields while dealing damage. Currently we max it second owing to its high CD c.f.
Hate Spike.
It is good but the
mana costs and the CD are too much for early game.
Lastly we max
Dark Frenzy. Taking one point in this skill at level 2 is enough to provide the mobility advantage over the laning opponent. We only take the one point in it at level two as it provides us with the slow removal that would help us
survive ganks. Otherwise we harm our initial game damage if we invest too many points into this skill.

Stats: 20 Mpen and 70ms.
Breakdown: These are the boots that will help you get through most of the early game. It allows you to have the early game magic penetration that will allow you to deal the damage to your lane opponent and possibly secure that first lane kill. Combined with your rune choices these will allow you to really break through the minimal magic resist that they have so that your abilities deal as much damage as possible. These boots will later become more useful as they continue to allow you to break through their defenses.

Mercury's Treads, they provide you with

Archangel's Staff We don't have nearly enough mana compared to someone like
Ryze to make the most out of this item. Also, no real survivability.
Athene's Unholy Grail This is probably one of the other items that I would consider. It has a high amount of AP as well as that passive. This could help you make those clutch plays without running out of mana. Overall a great item and great addition to your gear, the only reason as to why it is not in the build is that we need some form of survivability other than our skill. Play this if you think "challenge accepted".
Banshee's Veil This is also a nice item to provide you with that survivability that is so crucial late game. Also a little health and mana never hurt, although it does have that 45 second CD that you have to wait for.
Deathfire Grasp A great item on
Evelynn just a bit weaker than it used to be. If it suits your playstyle, go for it. Otherwise you should stick to something else.
Guardian Angel Always nice to have 2 lives, however this item is very situational. Perhaps you got your burst off and their team died. However, the long CD and the chance that they may just wait over your dead body is also a high risk.
Guinsoo's Rageblade Since
Evelynn does not have as much burst as she used to it would lead people to thinking that she has to constantly harass her opponent. If you are going to get this item, get it in the laning phase as your constant use of
Hate Spike will keep this item's stacks quite high. The extra stats that it provides you could prove useful, however it is here as it requires charges and does not suit the burst style play that Evelynn still has. It is just now a good item to consider using in the laning phase if you are doing well.
Mejai's Soulstealer XD This. Item. Is. Your. Choice. Play at your own risk with this item. Big risk=big reward. I personally like to play it safe regarding this item and I tend to avoid it because I do well anyway without it :D. If you are at 20 stacks the game should really be over. Build this early if you intend on using it.
Morello's Evil Tome A great item in its own right and a good choice on AP champions. Just not
Evelynn. There isn't really a survivability or advantage that benefits
Evelynn the way that some of the other items do. The choice is yours.
Philosopher's Stone isn't a bad early game item to choose. Just make sure that you sell it later on in the game. When you are intending to purchase your late game item. This is a nice choice for when you are laning against a champion who has a good amount of sustain so that you can last for a similarly long period of time. E.g. a solo top champion like
Kayle or
Vladimir.
Quicksilver Sash This item is a nice alternative to have instead of more AP. The ultimate is Quasi-Godlike in its use. However if you feel that you are already dealing enough damage, then this could be the item for you. It is great against EVERYTHING and will help you get in and out quickly. Possibly the best alternative for the scepter.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter This seems like a great item on
Evelynn, a slow, 80AP and that passive, however upon closer inspection, why do we need them to be even slower when we already have a speed boost that resets upon killing someone? I would've put this item into my build had I not realised that we didn't need the extra slows and this could be replaced with a better item. Once again, have it if you want, it's your choice =)
Trinity Force Although this item is great for most hybrid champs, we opt for
Lich Bane instead because of the more specialised design of that item for
Evelynn. As this build is AP, tri force just isn't what we want.
Warmog's Armor This will make things interesting, you have your damage, now to make you a die hard champ with over 3k Hp you buy this. They will have a hard time killing you while you laugh as you nuke them over and over with hate spikes.
Will of the Ancients Some nice AP, and spell vamp, however, we are here for burst if you choose it you will be doing everyone a service, but will you be hanging around long enough for the effect to actually help? If yes then go for it. Remember, it is your choice and it was designed for certain manaless champs such as
Vladimir or
Akali.
Zhonya's Hourglass Nuke then activate. I don't like this item as much since
Evelynn is all about getting in and out of battles, focusing their carry as much as possible. However, it is still a consideration.
Comments:
*NOTE #1*
Alternative items can be found within the spoiler of
Abyssal Scepter.
SPACE
*NOTE #2* Do not underestimate the power and survivability a
Doran's Ring or two can provide you. If you are having a hard time in lane owing to your relative squishiness, you should contemplate getting one of these. The
extra 80 HP that you'll get and the
increase in your AP and mana regeneration will
help you sustain yourself a bit more. Do remember though that this item shouldn't be bought first as you will find the
450 HP and mobility from the
Boots of Speed +
Health Potions combination are more likely to help you
survive the gauntlet that is mid lane. Also,
try not to delay your
Deathfire Grasp too much as the burst from it will be
crucial to your
gameplay and damage.
SPACE
*NOTE #3* Alternative build explanation below in the spoiler (EXP build).

Spoiler: Click to view
This build uses the slow instead gained from chaining your ultimate
Agony's Embrace alongside the active of the
Hextech Gunblade to proc the effects of
Liandry's Torment. This build is still very much burst orientated, yet throws in a little bit of survivability and 'tankiness' as well. It is suggested that you have these items set to smartcast so that you can merely hover your mouse over the enemy champion before proceeding to faceroll and win the fight.
Glorious Stealthplay~General Tips and Tricks
As a mid or top lane
Evelynn you capitalize on
heavy aggressive tactics. Make sure you
play passive-aggresively to constantly keep them on the edge.
Vision Wards can be a problem. However, I prefer to
buy vision wards and sight wards of my own as they allow you to maintain map awareness of your own, and combined with keeping them at bay with
Hate Spike you can destroy their vision wards. Be aware that they are also losing out on their money by spending it on these and placing them in bad places (i.e the middle of the lane). Later on in the game, if all is going well but you know that they are still placing wards, do
consider buying an
Oracle's Elixir and farm up their wards.
You can tell if they have a
Vision Ward up when an exclimation mark appears above your head while they are out of the circle surrounding you.
A tactic that could be useful is
hiding behind your minions, hate-spiking to farm and hitting them with the hate spike at the same time. This will become irritating for them after a while as you whittle down their health while farming yourself. This harrass, if left unchecked will allow you to surprise them by bursting their health down to 0.
If your lane is pushed and you see their jungler heading to gank one of your lanes, you can 'ghost' him and follow him. When the gank initiates, you'll be there to turn the tide of the battle and even secure a kill. Remember to drop your ultimate first so that they cannot flee.
In the early game, if you find yourself back at base, and you have spare cash after buying an item,
Health Potions are great and generally you should
carry around 4-5 with you while you are laning. This combined with your passive will allow you to
stay in lane for longer and provide you with the ability to
take harass. The same goes for wards, try to by 2 health potions and a ward if you can. You should continue to do this most of the game as because of
Evelynn's low hp pool,
Health Potions have a much greater effect on her health percentage as a whole.
Generally in team fights, you want to wait until someone initiates and then come in,
head straight for their AD or AP carry, and nuke the c**p out of them. A variation on this tactic would be to
skirt around the edge of the battle and
come up from the rear of their team, cutting off their escape route and potentially netting a double or more kill from it.
Warding is an essential part of the game. If people ward key areas, then overall the map awareness of the team goes through the roof and you are much more likely to survive ganks and win the game. Other guides such as
this one or even
this one can show you the best places to ward, however as mid lane
Evelynn you will mainly want to ward 3-4 areas. 2 at the start.
These are:
- One of the brushes either side of your lane.
- The triangle in the path by the wraiths
- The brush leading to your blue in the corner (river side)
- The other brush in your lane

Game Phases~Early, Mid and Late!
Early

Spoiler: Click to view
Early game for
Evelynn is really where the laning phase happens, ganks go on, and you
focus on farming and outlaning your opponent. Chances are, if you have a pre level 6 ganking-type jungler e.g.
Lee Sin coming to help gank your lane then you should have a great lane. However, if they have such junglers be aware of them and if possible try to get that
Sight Ward ASAP. If you can force them to go back for any reason during this early game and deny them levels through zoning them, then you should have a good game ahead of yourself.
Mid

Spoiler: Click to view
Mid game is where a few things start to happen. You are now
above level 6 and you
have your ultimate
Agony's Embrace as well as your
Deathfire Grasp. You may have a
Lich Bane although that isn't as important as your current situation. Take a look around. Ask yourself these questions:
- Are there any lanes that can be ganked?
- Am I doing better than my lane opponent?
- Are there any opportunities that may arise that I can capitalise on?
If the answer to any of these questions are
yes then you should go ganking. It could help change the tide of the battle and if done at the right time, it might
secure your team the dragon/drake or potentially buff steals.
If the answer to these questions is
no, then you should
continue to lane and try making sure that you
don't fall behind your laning opponent too much. If you have a kind jungler, try
getting in ganks to help even up the lane again. If you are loosing your lane to your opponent you could try going for a gank if other lanes are gankable. This will force your lane opponent to react as if other lanes are winning then your team will still remain in the match to win the game.
Play intelligently and don't do anything that could result in feeding. Try to
keep those wards up as their jungler may try coming to your lane for what is perceivable as an easy kill.
Late

Spoiler: Click to view
By now the game has progressed to the point where teams are starting to get their late game items, the AD carry is now supposed to dominate the game and securing baron (as well as keeping him warded) is a must. Players will generally start or have their survivability items (which more often than not have magic resistance). Your job is to end this game before the game reaches HYPER-Late game (the point where one team fight wins the game). Warding, and sticking with your team (or near your team away from the enemy's sight) will be the keys to your team's victory and will help you stay alive.
Lethal Lane matchups~Who to Care For
Seeing as this seems to be the staple of good guides, here is a general idea of who you should expect to face and how hard relatively they are to face.

Ahri is a highly mobile and dangerous foe post level 6 and pretty dangerous before level 6. Her
Charm can spell death for you if you let it hit you. Your farming strategy becomes more cautious because of this. Time her spells and keep an eye on her mana and you should be able to counter harass. Getting
Boots of Speed and
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed would be advisable in facing her as the increased mobility combined with your
Dark Frenzy will give you the fighting chance. If you are struggling, ask for a lane change. The key to sparring with her is to keep the early game pressure up on her. Let her get fed, and you'll have a bad late game.
Akali will screw you over once she reaches level 6. Make sure that she doesn't do so. The key to keeping alive until you reach your
Deathfire Grasp is to call for ganks and try to kill her before she reaches it. If you can keep her zoned while last hitting then you should be able to survive. In this case buying those
Vision Wards will help you out although this could help more so if they are also buying
Vision Wards to find you as well. Post-6, if she does anything brash such as ganking a lane or towerdiving, landing your
Agony's Embrace and
Deathfire Grasp with a
Ravage if possible will secure you a kill if she is below 60% of her Hp and could possibly save you owing to your shield.
Anivia is a slightly easier foe to face. As long as you keep the early game pressure up and dodge/avoid the
Flash Frosts that she'll throw at you, then you'll do well. Try to kill her before she reaches level 6 or else that
Glacial Storm +
Frostbite combo will spell your death. As always keep them on their toes and in the case of
Anivia that early pressure will help you get ahead.
Boots of Speed and 3
Health Potions will definitely help you in this lane.
Annie. As one of the most passive casters/nukers in the game,
Annie can punish you hard while farming, or doing anything for that matter. Make sure you get in good harass when she doesn't have her
Pyromania up. Also don't try to harass with auto attacks as that
Molten Shield will hurt you hard. If there is someone better suited to face her on your team it is highly recommended that you do switch lanes. Be careful in burning through your
health potions as her spells all
hurt.

Brand. Think of this guy as a cross between
Annie and
Anivia; part skill shot, part passive caster all NUKER. Laning against this guy will be hard. Be prepared to be punished hard if he can land his
Conflagration->
Sear->
Pillar of Flame combo, as you'll most likely be dead. Take those
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes and be prepared for a tough lane. If you manage to drop him low or have a jungler come gank make sure he gets hurt
hard. Consider switching lanes if you don't think that you can handle this guy.

Cassiopeia. Uninstall. You have no hope.
Try switching lanes although the truth is most will have a hard time against her. You'll just have a harder time. If you manage to find her distracted as she is fighting someone else, go for her! She is squishier than you! Take her out with that
Deathfire Grasp->
Ravage->
Lich Bane combo to make her think twice about challenging your team.
Cho'Gath is a toplaner, and a rare one at that. His rupture can hurt you hard, and once he's past level 6 his feast stacks will make him very hard to kill. Keep his stacks low, and dodge his
Ruptures and
Feral Screams. If you can avoid these skill shots, then you shouldn't have too much trouble taking him down. As usual,
Boots of Speed and
Health Potions will be your friend. Consider
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes and as usual push the aggression to force them to play by your terms.

Darius is a champ that epitomises the tanky dps/offtank solo top meta. You'll have a hard time laning against this guy. Advice would be to ask for a lane switch or otherwise play cautiously. If you see that his
Decimate is on CD or that he already used his
Crippling Strike, feel free to take your chances, however as always, be prepared for a tricky lane, as
Evelynn was originally designed as an assassin/ap mid/jungler, you were meant to kill squishies. So unless this is absolute late game, or you find that your opposing
Darius is unnecessarily low, don't try anything that you'll regret later.
Diana is a powerful laning opponent. She has no escape however, only aggressive abilities. When facing her, be sure to time her abilities and keep an eye on her passive
Moonsilver Blade. She'll most likely try to harass with her
Crescent Strike however, your higher mobility and reaction time should keep you alive.
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed will help you against her and your
Dark Frenzy will remove the only CC that she has. The truth is that your nuke is stronger than hers and that the only thing that could possibly keep her alive is her natural survivability. Make sure that you don't fall below 60% Hp when facing her otherwise one Q and two R's and you'll be dead. Other than that, keep the pressure up on her and be unpredictable and you should be able to take the advantage.

Elise is a high burst champion capable of evading many abilities owing to her
Cocoon / Rappel. Her use in the jungle as well as in mid lane can make her a tricky opponent to face. She can harass from a distance and use her combination of
Neurotoxin / Venomous Bite alongside
Volatile Spiderling / Skittering Frenzy to wear you down for a surprisingly fast finishing blow or gank. Be cautious at all times and consider rushing
Abyssal Scepter for more survivability.
Evelynn. You've read this guide, they may have. This could go either way so be sure to be the better player by outfarming, outlaning and outskilling your opponent. If the opposing
Evelynn is a jungler, chances are that they aren't as fed as you. However, wait until they use their
Dark Frenzy first and then use yours and be sure to have those
Vision Wards up. For only 50 gold more, you'll be able to see ganks or her coming, and you'll be able to stop their vision of the area by destroying their wards.
Ezreal has the potential to show up in mid lane. Be careful of his spammy
Mystic Shot and remember, his W,
Essence Flux only slows your attack speed. If you can get close to him, then you'll be able to out harass him. Know that his playing style is that of a sniper; harassment from long range. If you manage to catch him off guard in combat, your spam combined with mobility should be greater than his and will ultimately result in your win. Feel free to chase him if you have the advantage and he has pushed beyond the safety of the lane. As he is a completely skillshot reliant champion,
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes will be your friend.

Fiddlesticks. Caw Caw SQAWK! Yea, that'll be how it goes. Make sure that you have your
Quicksilver Sash as that 3 seconds of fear from his
Terrify will hurt you hard later on in the game. Early game his
Drain will hurt, however if you bide your time and realise that it does cost him a fair amount of mana to use it you'll do well. If you notice him using on a minion instead of you, take the opportunity to harass him. Get to know his abilities and you'll find out that he's not so scary after all.
Fizz Almost as horrific as
Cassiopeia. He out nukes you. If you can manage to get a lane swap, you should be ok. However, if you manage to catch him off guard in a fight or while he is farming, make him pay with your
Hate Spike. Remember, if you can manage to dominate your lane, then keep the pressure up. This will allow you to snowball into late game.

Galio is designed to counter mages. He has a high amount of base Mres, and not only that, but his
Bulwark will make your early game damage very weak. The good thing about this is that your abilities deal part AP part
AD damage. This is where switching up your items could hurt him harder.
Gangplank. Previously known as Critplank, this guy will just bully you in lane. Be cautious when laning against him.
Garen. See
Darius. Think darius with less DoT but more silence and a lot more hurt. Don't lane against him. Just. Don't.
Gragas. Made popular through tournament play, but then nerfed as a result, his ridiculous amount of sustain will punish you in the long run. Make sure you avoid his barrels and you'll have a slightly easier time facing him. Make sure you gank other lanes when possible and try to get your jungler to gank this lane. As usual, the speed quints will be your friend, and chances are apart from his
Barrel Roll and
Body Slam he will generally be an easy target for harass. Just remember that whatever damage you do to him will be migitated by his
Happy Hour and
Drunken Rage.

Heimerdinger is pretty decent, although his turrets do not detect stealth, so you can still skirt around the minions to get in that harass. Just be aware of the turrets and their locations. His abilities can hurt a fair amount if you get hit by them but otherwise, he'll be an easy lane for you. Remember to farm from behind your minions with
Hate Spike as his
Hextech Micro-Rockets will only hit the closest 3 enemies to him. Once he hits level 6, be careful of him baiting you with his ultimate. He's squishier than you though and you can burst him down faster than he can to you. Turrets are a good source of farm early game as well.

Irelia needs nerfs XD. In all seriousness, when laning against her, she's got an incredible burst that can also become a stun/slow if you aren't careful. She is indeed a dangerous opponent even when at low HP, so just be aware of gank baits if she is sticking around for no reason. Your burst out does hers though so if you think you can take her, and she's overextended too far then take your chances. Be sure to have either a
Banshee's Veil or
Quicksilver Sash to cleanse that stun and continue to inflict the agony.

Jarvan IV is a formidable opponent, like all offtank tops, his natural tankiness will result in your demise. His abilities do take a bit of mana from him and his passive is nasty, however, if you can manage to farm better than him and perhaps get a gank or two then you should be able to handle this lane. Note that he has no real CC apart from his knockup, which can be avoided and his
Golden Aegis can be
Dark Frenzy'ed out of. Just be aware of him once he reaches level 6 as his ganks could mean the end of you.
Jax. Is. Impossible. To. Lane. Against. Just don't even bother trying. Unless its a 2 v 1 situation (where even then he'll still do well)) you will most likely die. As the current king of solo top, where all he has to build is a
Trinity Force and he is sorted for his damage, try to ask for a lane swap if possible, or otherwise don't take this lane. You can only hope for him to be unskilled enough to not combo E->W->Q on you for tons of damage.
Jayce isn't that bad. He can harass from range if he finds you to be owning him in close combat, or he can bully you around when he does decide to close the gap. Try to dodge his
To the Skies! / Shock Blast shock blast especially when he is trying to whittle you down in health. As always, remember to use your stealth to your advantage and keep him guessing by hiding in the brush or in odd areas in the lane surrounding him. Overall, his skill set can hurt you hard if you get caught by it. Try to make sure that you don't.
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes will be your friend as usual for this top lane.

Karma shouldn't be in either lane that you face. Should she show her face, remember to use your skill set to your advantage and push the aggression. Take care when she has that shield up, and ultimately the lane will be yours. She really needs buffs..
Dark Frenzy will break that anchor that she may throw on you to slow you.
Karthus. Kill him and he may kill you. The only thing that could really counter him would be the
Zhonya's Hourglass. Make sure that you don't stand too close to your minions when he is farming with his delayed
Lay Waste, however make sure that you do stand close to them if it means that you won't be the only target hit. Think before you engage him and remember that your burst hurts him more than his can hurt you. Try not to be caught by his
Defile as it will both reveal your stealth and hurt you a LOT late game. If you can kill him pros to you and be aware that his ult does have a very long CD. Use your
Dark Frenzy to get out of his
Wall of Pain and the truth is that since it doesn't damage you, he won't actually know if he hit you or not. Play smart. Outplay, outlast.
Kassadin. An assassin like you, Kassadin has the ability to silence you and kill you because of it. Although very powerful against certain foes, make sure you carry a
Quicksilver Sash with you. His damage will overall be better than yours, so try getting that QSS fast to shut down his only CC on you. Don't try to trade with him as
Evelynn as you will come off worse 9 times out of 10. His passive
Void Stone makes your damage output significantly less and as a result, you'd be better off switching lanes. Consider items such as
Banshee's Veil as well.
Katarina du Couteau. Unless she's a good player she probably won't be able to kill you fast enough. Since the remake, she's been a much better champion, however she is still squishy even with the damage reduction granted by her
Shunpo. Make sure you are far away from your minions if there are only a few of them and you see her use
Bouncing Blades as these will fly to you and reveal your stealth. Try not to get caught by her ultimate
Death Lotus as this will spell your end and consider
Zhonya's Hourglass as a means to counter her ultimate. Don't get too overconfident when in this lane as her powerful early game and ability to insta-kill/gib squishy chapmions on low HP is above the average. Look out for her
Bouncing Blades +
Shunpo +
Sinister Steel combo as that will be her main harass and killing combo. Consider
Banshee's Veil against her.
Kayle is rarely played. However don't let that put you off her playing style, her sustain and 'ranged' attack damage will result in you having a bad time if you let her get ahead. Early on, keep the pressure on to her and harass her with every opportunity you get. This will keep her focused on her HP and not on harassing you. Don't bother so much with the
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed as her spells are automatic and not skill shots. Take the chance to be the aggressor and you should do well. As always, boots and 3 pots will be your friend, although in this case if you are facing her top then consider a
Philosopher's Stone for the sustain when facing her.
Kennen is an energy champ that also happens to be a tough-to-kill ninja. Once he acquires his
Hextech Revolver you'll be in for a tough time. While the game is still in its early phases, try to harass/poke her with your
Hate Spike and make sure that when he tries to stun you that you get your
Ravage off as well. When laning against him this will be a battle of wit and skill as you will be constantly trying to out-harass each other. Get first blood and get ahead in minions and experience and you should be ahead in the advantage.
Kha'Zix is a powerful melee assassin. Usually found in the jungle or to a lesser extent, the top lane, his incredible burst and ability to take down squishy isolated targets like yourself mean that laning against him and losing will most likely spell your death. He has to come into melee range to harass as his
Void Spike is relatively easy to dodge with your high mobility. Don't become isolated from your minions and try to harass/zone him with your
Hate Spike to deny him his game. If you can get a gank or two on him, he'll be put very far behind.

LeBlanc. Le Deciever. Le will pwn your a** if you let her take the advantage. Her
Sigil of Silence +
Distortion combo will shred your initial HP if you don't manage to dodge the skill shots that are
Ethereal Chains and
Distortion. In this lane, having the higher mobility gives you the upper hand. As a result, take 3
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes and make sure that you have the normal
Boots of Speed and 3
Health Potions. Keeping above 80% of your health will most likely keep you alive in this lane and as a tip, if you fall below 70% HP pop a
Health Potion.
Lee Sin Don't bother laning against this guy. He's got too much survivability for you. Essentially he will outdamage you at all stages of he game bar late game. Take mid or jungle if this guy is on their team.
Lux, is a powerful zoning mage. She can harm you with a bunch of skills that will reveal your position if they hit you. Do remember that her only advantage on you is her range. If you can close the gap between you and her, and then drop a
Ravage +
Hate Spike combination, she'll feel it and think twice about farming while you're around. Overall take those
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes and beat her with your overall better mobility and burst. As always,
Boots of Speed and 3
Health Potions. Try to dodge her spammy ultimate
Finales Funkeln or the newly named "Final Spark", with your
Dark Frenzy and you'll find out that the lady of light is merely a spark compared to your flame.

Malphite Try not to lane against this guy if you can, none of his abilities can really hurt you except
Seismic Shard (although it is heavy on his mana to do so), however the same goes both ways. Harass becomes tactical as his regenerating
Granite Shield will make it a challenging lane. If you want you can try to keep the harass up on him and keep him under pressure, just remember that as
Evelynn you just don't do well against tanky characters in general. Remember to
Dark Frenzy out of the
Seismic Shard's slow.
Malzahar and his DoT will just keep you dead. Try to stay away from your minions when they have
Malefic Visions on them and his
Call of the Void has a larger hit box than you may think. I
highly recommend that you get a
Quicksilver Sash ASAP as he will farm off you if you don't get one. Timing the use of the QSS is key as well. Activate it after he has hit you with his
Call of the Void->
Malefic Visions->
Null Zone->
Nether Grasp combo, and his damage/nuke will just be non-existent. If this is the case, either push straight up to him to gank and unleash your combo on him or use your
Dark Frenzy +
Flash combination to escape. Be aware that he will often use his ultimate to gank or in a teamfight, so it is vital that you stay out of the fight until your initiator, initiates.
Master Yi. Not really a strong character and *very* squishy he'll either go AP or AD, however either way he builds, he still suffers from a key flaw. With the more damaging AP build, he'll have great survivability with his
Meditate. This means that his only damaging abilities will be his
Alpha Strike and
Wuju Style. Early game you should seek to harass him with your
Hate Spike as he'll either take his e first or his q first. Either way, your abilities deal more damage. When you see him activate
Highlander, get a last
Hate Spike off if you can before
Dark Frenzying the heck out of there. His alpha strike will be his main farming tool and don't try to harass him with auto attacks as his natural steroid
Wuju Style will mean that he deals more damage than you do.
Mordekaiser is just a big bully. Make him pay for it by being more aggressive than he for he dominates the lane if you let him get his passive shield up. Keep him down with regular harass at early levels, and consider taking those
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes as the heightened mobility will allow you to hurt him before he can hurt you. Time his skills and when you see him going in to farm, circle and strike. Be cautious of minions with his
Creeping Death on them as they will damage you. Apart from that consider getting that
Quicksilver Sash for his ultimate and remember to ward to keep an eye out for those ganks.
Morgana is a nasty mid laner that has a snare, spell shield, and AoE DoT Mres reducer. Her ultimate if stayed within will deal double damage and could possibly tear your team apart in a teamfight. To counter her, make sure that you stay on the edges of your minion waves to avoid that
Tormented Soil and keep on your toes to avoid her
Dark Bindings. If you see her pop her
Black Shield don't panic as your abilities deal
both AP and AD damage. They just won't deal that much and will be more likely to break the shield first. In lane if you see her drop her
Tormented Soil, consider harassing her as it will force her to blow her
Dark Binding and if she doesn't do that she'll be eating your harass. Be aware that she will likely start off with a
Doran's Ring meaning that you'll have the movement speed advantage over her. Keep the pressure up on her and you'll find that the fallen angel isn't so tough after all.

Wither on you, remember to
Dark Frenzy out of it. Kiting hurts this guy hard, so boots of speed and MS quints will lead you to an early victory. Just don't get too confident against him.
Nidalee. As long as you can dodge those spears and keep an eye out for those bushwhack traps, you should do well. Remember not to travel into bushes when you are fleeing from her as she gains a large movement speed boost from that. Take boots and 3 pots instead of a philo stone and ask for ganks and you should take the advantage against her.

Olaf. Tanky Dps. Don't get him low unless you are ABSOLUTELY SURE you will kill him. Don't try to trade with him as only a few
Reckless Swings will render you viking ruin. Try to avoid his axes as they have a relatively slow projectile speed and don't run in a straight line when fleeing from him. Don't stay to fight him when he is low as he will outlast you with his sustain from
Vicious Strikes. Play cautiously and try to deny him farm when you can.
Orianna. If only her ball speed was faster. Keep an eye out for where the ball is and you should be relatively safe. She really lets you do what you want in lane as all her damage comes from that ball. Try not to stay within your minions against her as the AoE damage from
Command: Dissonance will hurt you hard. Make sure that you don't engage her in a teamfight until you find the fight had been initiated by others as leading a teamfight with Orianna on their team is asking for death. Keep fast on your feet by choosing

Pantheon. This high damaging physical assassin, will wreck you with repeated
Spear Shots. Try to harass him while he is farming and make sure that he loses health as fast as you do. Don't worry so much about his passive
Aegis Protection as it was designed for auto attacking champions, but do pay attention to it when you are getting low and you find him willing to tower dive you with it up. Don't fall below 15% HP or even 60% HP for that matter as his secondary 'passive' will end up dealing more damage to you than you think. Call for regular ganks and push through the early game to have a stronger late game. As always, if you find your lane pushed, gank other lanes.
Poppy. Whatever you do, don't let her farm. Stay away from walls and know that you can out harass her and outfarm her. Be aware of her speed boost and if you see her use it, feel free to use yours. In teamfights, try to drop your ultimate
Agony's Embrace before she manages to drop hers as the 37% damage to her may help the poor target that she has chosen. Overall, you are the better assassin in this lane and she will most likely need a gank to take you down. Remember that she does deal increased damage to the target of her ult, so try not to stay and spar with her for too long or else she'll hurt you more in the long run. Renekton. Play cautiously. Unlike his brother
Nasus Renekton will tear you limb from limb. His strong early game presence will dominate you and if he gets fed from either kills or afk farm, then he will have a strong late game presence as well. Try to get the farm just underneath your tower, and play cautiously. If you can get ganks, that'll be good. Consider
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes for the mobility in the lane.
Riven. Leave the lane. Nothing you can do will help you. Try to farm if you want but you should ask for a lane change or some form of perma-gank. Cautious play will help you and those boots and 3 pots will be your lifeline. Turtle through this until late game where you will hopefully get fed from their carries dying to you.
Rumble. If you can get a gank or 2 in this lane, you should be set. He is a CD based champion, however, he is still a offtank type of character. Harass and farm from behind your minions to avoid the
Electro-Harpoon and when you see him go into the danger zone keep away from him. Watch out for his
Flamespitter as remaining within it will hurt you for tons of damage.
Ryze. For a champion that can spam and has all auto lock skills, he is surprisingly durable. He scales off mana and unfortunately for us, some of the items that grant mana also provide Mres and other resistances (e.g.
Banshee's Veil). Take that
Quicksilver Sash to counter him relatively hard and be prepared for a challenging lane. Here you don't need to bother with the MS quints as none of his abilities are skill shots, so that extra damage is much welcomed.

Shen Yea just don't bother. He's got too much sustain for you. As it is stated in the general guide section, don't even try to harass this guy and you shouldn't be focusing him in the team fights anyway. In lane be aware of his
Shadow Dash taunt as it could be setting you up for a gank. As he is a melee champion but tanky, try to get the minion wave under your turret and when the lane is pushed, go gank. Boots and 3 pots are your friend here.
Shyvana. See above. More damage, less tanky, still all the problem that shen is and more. Try to harass as she doesn't have as much sustain, however her ridiculous amount of health and CD abilities will leave you suffering. Don't try anything too risky and play smartly. Get to late game and hit their carries for all you have. That
Deathfire Grasp will be your best friend and will allow you to trade harass every minute. Take those greater quintessences of swiftness as they'll allow you to keep up with her.
Singed. As dyrus' favourite character you have to be aware of his poison trail. Chances are he will farm by running through your minions while leaving his trail of poison behind him. Make sure that if he attempts to do so, you punish him by repeatedly stabbing his face with
Hate Spike and possibly a
Ravage or two. Don't worry so much if he
Flings you as he will be hurt more from your harassing him. Keep the aggression up with him and he'll start playing passively, which is just what you want. Just be aware that his natural tankiness and toughness make him a formidable opponent and that you have to keep your guard up when laning against him.
Under no circumstances should you chase him for longer than 5 seconds!
Sion. This undead offtank will wreck you if you let him get fed. Make him pay every time he wants to use his E
Enrage as that will be his main farming tool to get tanky. His ability
Cryptic Gaze will be a nasty stun on you, however at lower levels, they will cost him a lot of mana and most likely he'll opt for his
Death's Caress. Don't stay near him when you see that he has activated his ultimate
Cannibalism as he becomes something of a super sustain, damaging, unkillable tank. In this lane getting that
Deathfire Grasp will mean a slightly easier time laning. Stay away from him when you see his
Enrage active in lane and try to poke/harass him when he tries to farm it up. The extra damage gained from it is enough to hurt you if you get caught by it only a few times. Keep the pressure up, and you should find this lane to be an interesting one. Consider
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes although the standard runes should be fine.
Swain. The master tactician simply won't see you coming. As a mischievous mid laner, keep an eye out for that
Torment as that DoT will hurt after a few bursts. If you can farm closer to your lane you should be sorted. Make sure that if you do commit to harassment, you circle around the minion wave and not get caught by the
Nevermove +
Decripify combination.
Dark Frenzy out of his slow and you should take the advantage against him. If you see him take a
Doran's Ring instead of sustain through boots and 3 pots, make him pay for his mistake by harassing regularly. Eventually he will run low and you'll see that you can kill him in a burst.
Syndra is a ranged delayed damage caster. She has a skill-shot stun and a slow. She has no escape mechanisms, meaning that if you harass her enough, she'll either be forced to flash, or she'll try to push you away with her
Scatter the Weak. Currently, she is in need of a few buffs, however her relatively low health pool means that she will have to play cautiously after a few hits of harass. Play aggressive and try to focus on last hitting, and you'll find out that this lane isn't so bad after all. Suggested items would be your
Boots of Speed and the 3
health potions as they will help you avoid the delayed
Dark Sphere and survive the
Force of Will that she will try to farm/harass you with. Be wary when you see multiple
Dark Spheres lying around and you are on low HP as she may be trying to set you up for a quick kill from her ultimate,
Unleashed Power. Consider switching out your
Greater Quintessence of Ability Power for
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed.

Talon. This noxian assassin will come to your lane for one reason only; to shut you down
hard. His skill set is designed to be an anti mage, and his AoE spells means circling around him becomes a challenge. Definitely ask for a lane swap if you can, and definnitely consider a
Banshee's Veil. It would also be advisable to take
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes as his faster base movement speed will mean you have a tougher time in lane. You should ask for a lane switch as his
Cutthroat will hurt you hard with that silence and amplify his damage to you. Make sure that if you are forced to lane against him you don't give away a kill too early and pray that you get ganks from your jungler.
Teemo. Most teemos will steamroll if they get fed. However against you, you should try not to eat too many
Blinding Darts and definitely consider
Vision Wards to counter both his shrooms and other wards that he may place. Keep the early pressure up on him with lots of harass and remember that he is ranged, so watch out for him if he starts to kite you. As
Teemo is relatively squishy, he is very susceptible to ganks. Get him ganked a couple of times and this lane should be easy.
Tristana. Haha, if you see an AP tristana be on your guard. Although many think that she is supposed to only be an AD carry, all her abilities scale of AP, and as a result they can hurt you hard. She only gets stronger the further the game goes on and as such the best remedy to facing her is to get an early gank. Don't farm within the minion wave as her
Explosive Shot will hurt you hard. Do remember that her ultimate
Buster Shot deals 150% of her AP which means that it can hurt you a lot more than you'd be expecting it too. On top of that it can be used by her in initiating a gank alongside her escape/initiate
Rocket Jump. This lane will be interesting and at the same time a possible challenge. Try not to harass too much in this lane as you'll most likely be worse off than them. Take care, playing smart and you might be able to secure a kill or two.
Twisted Fate. Tip, get
Quicksilver Sash ASAP. That item counters him really hard. Try to harass, although if he knows what he's doing you'll have a tough time in this lane.
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes are your friend in this lane as they'll help you dodge his
Wild Cards and although rushing a qss at the start of the game could gimp your damage, you should definitely get it as it'll shut down his early game damage quite hard. Keep an eye out for his
Destiny as this will reveal you through your invisibility to not only him but his team-mates as well. Keep on the move and get good ganks and you should manage to push through to late game without giving him kills to be able to deal the damage where it hurts. Don't be too put off focusing him in a teamfight if his priorities are elsewhere.

Udyr is a tanky dps/offtank top. If he is laning chances are he is running
Tiger Stance with a
Bear Stance thrown in there for the stun. Play cautiously as he can wreck you if you are out of place. As he is melee, you could try to kite him with your hate spike although chances are he'll just turtle stance you to reduce your damage to him to something that is more of a joke. Play until you reach the point in the game where teamfights are starting to occur and make your mark in the game there. Tl;dr, play cautiously until late game where you then help dominate teamfights and pick off stragglers.
Urgot. Although he is an uncommon champion to play, he is still a target that you have to keep an eye out for. He has a great poke through his
Acid Hunter and
Noxian Corrosive Charge. His shield can also make your poke quite weak. Just try to keep on the move and dodge his harass/poke.
Boots of Speed and 3
Health Potions will help you, and once again consider those
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes as they'll help you avoid his otherwise targeted abilities.

Veigar. Don't let this guy farm, whatever you do. No matter what, this guy is like
Nasus in the sense that even if they do badly at the start of the game, if they get fed through farm, their entire burst goes through the roof making these guys hyper-carries. Consider either a
Banshee's Veil or a
Quicksilver Sash in countering him. Watch out for his burst late game as a
Baleful Strike +
Primordial Burst will insta-gib you and leave your team one person down; a perilous position late game. Early game if you see him trying to farm try to harass him and when he drops his
Event Horizon and you're caught in the middle of it, try to stay on the move. Play smartly yet at the same time aggressively and if you don't die to him, this will become a great game.
Vi or (Vee), she can dish out the hurt. Her dangerous combination of not only crowd control but also tankiness, survivability and damage mean that laning against her can be neigh impossible. Try to switch lanes if you can and consider movement speed as a way of avoiding her harass. Do not stay behind your minions and keep an eye on her positioning as she will often attempt to set up farm-harass with her
Excessive Force. She is generally a consistent champion throughout the game so be on guard at all times and care for enemy ganks.
Viktor is a rare opponent although his laning/zoning potential is incredible owing to his
Gravity Field and his
Death Ray. However, for him to really deal a lot of damage, he has to dump all his skills on you. Make sure that you
Dark Frenzy out of his
Gravity Field as remaining in it until it stuns you isn't a great idea as he can burst you down fast. Keep on the move to avoid his
Death Ray and as such, take those
Boots of Speed and 3
Health Potions at the start to sustain yourself through to late early game.
Vladimir. Yea don't bother trying to harass this guy, he'll just heal it back from you. His relatively weak early game is your only real chance at making sure this guy doesn't survive into late game. Don't really mess around with him. Gank him and try to make him use a
Flash. Chances are he'll try to troll pool (
Sanguine Pool) out of there. Make sure that you get him when he's quite far in, in your lane as that'll force him to get out ASAP. If you are trying to nuke him and find that your nuke isn't finishing him off/dealing enough damage to him, get out of there as his playing style capitalises on sustain and the longer the fight goes on the more of a threat he becomes. Try to rush that
Deathfire Grasp as soon as possible as that'll allow you to take out great chunks of his health. Play smartly and also try not to stay in the middle of your minion wave as his
Transfusion will pull your HP pool down into oblivion. Do consider those MS quints.
Volibear. Haha, this guy is so tanky and as a top he has enough burst through his
Frenzy's active. Don't get too low against him as a result and try to stay above 60-70% HP at all times against him. IF you see him rushing at you with his
Rolling Thunder, your
Dark Frenzy should be enough to outlast him, and if that isn't enough try spamming your
Hate Spike on him as that'll proc your passive on
Dark Frenzy and possibly give you the movement speed enough to escape from him. Harassing him isn't so bad but be on your feet as any mistakes could give him an opportunity to 'harass' you a lot. Overall, as a tanky dps champion, you'll have a hard time taking him down without the help from someone else, so if you see your mid laner or jungler coming in for a gank, definitely try to give them a hand as that'll make your lane a lot easier to face. As a side note if you are preparing for a gank from your friendly team, try to whittle his health down to just over 15% (estimate) as that'll give your team a chance at bursting him down~ a sure-fire way of countering his passive
Chosen of the Storm.

Warwick Try not to lane against this guy, his ridiculous amount of survivability and lifesteal will make mincemeat out of you. Either ask for a lane switch or play incredibly defensively. No matter what though, this guy is just a nasty counter to you. Unless you somehow have your lane perma-ganked by your friendly jungler, this is going to be neigh impossible.
Wukong. As Elementz's favourite character be on the watch for some tricky play. He has a fair amount of harass with his and the stealth combo that he'll drop on you all the time could result in a bit of counter-play in order. In this lane instead of going for the cheaper
Sight Wards you should seriously consider investing in
Vision Wards instead as they'll most likely save your life and allow you to pick up a free farm off a
Sight Ward or two. Harass him in the early game where his HP pool isn't as high and if you manage to get a kill or two off him before team fight stage starts then you should be sweet. Focus on farming if you can and try to read his play-style and learn from it. This will be your key in a victory against his monkey business.

Xerath is a long range medium damage caster. He has one stun spell that lasts for 1.5 seconds and an ultimate that can be cast 3 times. Early game, chances are that he won't be using his
Arcanopulse as much and that he will attempt to last hit your minions with auto attacks. It is this stage in the game where you would and should harass and attempt to kill him to put him behind in levels, experience and CS. As his
Arcanopulse is instant, you should consider MS quints and QSS if you are finding him to be skilled. Close the gap on him and he'll have a hard time surviving as his passive only defends him from AD champions, giving you free reign over him. Take

Zed is a high damage assassin that capitalizes on vulnerable opponents. Essentially, he outdamages you and with his shadow, means he can strike you down before you can even retaliate. Laning against one is dangerous as his energy means that more often than not he will outsustain you. He works similarly to most AD assassins however. Movement speed and aggression could help you win the early lane. However late game could see him become a problem. Hexplosive Minefield can stop you from circling around the field of battle. If you somehow manage to find a gap and are sure that it isn't a bait, take advantage of this as he is squishier than you and will be taken down
fast by your burst. Make sure that you don't get too low or else his large AoE ultimate,
Mega Inferno Bomb will be your demise. Make sure that you use your
Dark Frenzys wisely as it does have a fair CD, and as always hide behind those minions when farming. Keep him guessing and you'll take the lead. *Side note* if your lane is pushed against him, don't forget to gank as you'll need that extra source of money from somewhere to put you in the lead.
Zilean although mostly a support this daring timelord... huehue will Make your life miserable if you don't take the time to plan your attacks. If you see him place a bomb on a minion, remember then that he cannot double bomb combo you and as a result push the aggression when facing him. His only CC,
Time Warp can be countered laughably easily by
Dark Frenzy. As a final note, don't stand too close to your minions when there is a bomb on one of them and likewise the same a team member in a teamfight. His pathetic squishiness should result in an easy win for you.
Zyra. Time for some weeding. Her spells are laughably simple to avoid especially as they cost so much for her to use. She is a squishy champion~ the kind that you excel against and as a result if you can dodge her
Grasping Roots, then you should be sorted. Consider
Quicksilver Sash to counter her ultimate or her snare and make sure that you remain mobile and unpredictable. As she is squishy, she will be forced to burn through her
Health Potions and this will, in the longer run of things, result in an easier lane for you. Final thoughts are to beware of the
Grasping Roots->
Stranglethorns combination especially when facing a gank.

Summary~Final Thoughts before going out
SPACE
SPACE
Evelynn is an incredibly fun champion to play. Her burst damage, and mobility are on par, if not greater than other laning opponents. Her only weakness is her low health pool and bad positioning.
If played correctly,
Evelynn can dominate a lane and wreak havoc on the minds of your opponents. Playing her with a guerilla mentality forces opponents to keep on their feet and sooner or later they're bound to trip up.
Using this build, her 3-4 burst abilities (items included), shield and free speed boost all tied together in a champion most don't even see makes
Evelynn a champion that is a true force to reckon with.
SPACE
Ultimately, their mind is their biggest weakness, turn it against them and they shall suffer true agony.

*LOL ITEM CHANGER*
This software is amazing! You get to change the recommended items at the top of the shop screen meaning that you can complete your build faster and you don't have to spend tedious amounts of time looking for something in the shop. Riot endorses this and if they do, then why not use it? It is also self updating for extra convenience. ;)

*LOL REPLAY/RECORDER*
This software allows you to record your games~enough said. If your friends are sceptical of that PENTAKILL that you managed to acquire then you now have proof. Also useful for watching your gameplay to see where you could have improved yourself. There are a multitude of uses for this program, however the only downside is that if you have to update it, it requires downloading an entirely new setup file.

FAQ
SPACE

Spoiler: Click to view
Q. What's wrong with jungle
Evelynn/why do you not like jungle
Evelynn.
A. I do not think that there is anything wrong with jungle Evelynn, however I think that she is better off in the lane as she
*needs* to get to level 6 ASAP to be able to gank effectively and to deal the damage. Her sustainability in the jungle is mitigated her low HP pool and high mana costing
Ravage. Also as the AP carry of the team I feel that she gets more gold this way and this allows her to become a more prominent character in the game and the team (she gets to level 6 faster than in the jungle). There are other junglers that could do her job better as well e.g.
Lee Sin,
Maokai or
Nocturne.
Q. Why should I pick
Evelynn anyway? Aren't there other champions that do her job in mid lane better anyway?
A. That's a great question. The answer however, is that it is up to you whether or not you want to play her. Her playstyle is unique and it is always a nice challenge of skill when you face a laner that doesn't have to try hard to hurt you (
Annie comes to mind for some reason). She can be a volatile champion in that it does take some sharp thinking and timing in order to make the most of her true potential, however
Evelynn is a highly rewarding champion if done right.
Q. What's wrong with hybrid/AD
Evelynn?
A. I have an issue with hybrid characters apart from
Jax because to me, they don't make full use of what could potentially be the best statistics for them. In the case of
Evelynn her ultimate
Agony's Embrace doesn't scale with AD in any way, and in fact, building AP makes more sense because it deals significantly more damage to them in
percentages!. Just having 400AP makes this ability deal 33% of their maximum health in damage. With this build you'll reach over 600 meaning that you'll actually be dealing 37% of their max HP in damage. This gives you some serious nuking potential that you just won't get in other builds.
Q. Why don't you have
Deathfire Grasp anymore on
Evelynn?
A. I feel that since the nerf, DFG is now too weak for the statistics that it provides. Gone are the days of DFG providing CDR and a decent amount of their base health as magic damage. Instead, now I feel that
Evelynn is leaning towards the more skilled and smart player that selects their targets and outlevels her opponents through sustainable laning and ganking.

Changes Log

Someone suggested to me that I do one of these as it shows the subtle changes to my guide as I've updated them and kept it current with the current meta and gameplay.
Note that as I live in a country with the date format: DD/MM/YYYY that is how I'll structure this as well. Also the most recent change will be at the top followed by past changes in chronological order.
2013
19/05/2013:
- Updated the cheat sheet so that it is easier to read and fixed minor errors (such as names of the cheat sheets).
13/04/2013:
- Updated lane matchups:
Vi,
Zed,
Zac,
Elise
- Did some small changes seeing as nothing has really happened to
Evelynn in a long time.

Spoiler: Click to view
18/12/2012 2.00AM:
- Changed the 'cheat sheet' to be more streamlined and moved the full item builds into the items section under the spoiler 'condensed item builds'
- Added in more spoilers to make things easier to read and make the guide 'shorter'
- Updated the alternative build spoiler in the items section
- Added the condensed builds in the items section
- Working on updating the masteries section of the guide.
- 'Fixed' the problem with the introduction's chapter title.
06/12/2012:
- Updated all the old masteries to new ones, as well as making changes to the runes and "cheatsheets" in general.
- Making slow progress updating all the little things within this guide one chapter at a time. Prepare to see most of it complete by the weekend.
8/11/2012:
- Added
Guinsoo's Rageblade to the alternative items.
- Re-arranged the alternative items to be alphabetical order for easier navigation.
6/11/2012:
- Finished section for retired builds.
- Changed champions to 107 champions in the game because of Zed in the beta and soon to be on the fields of justice.
- Testing match-ups against
Elise. Give me a shout if you would like to practice.
- Edited the guide a bit more updating colours etc.
- FINALLY RELEASED THIS UPDATE AND CHANGED THE GUIDE! (finally guide making stress is over now for exams...)
1/11/2012:
- Changed one of the questions in the FAQ regarding to why I used to believe that sustain-Evelynn wasn't as good an idea.
- Added in the new section for retired builds. (Note that these images may be slightly harder to understand but they are still the same as the cheat sheet that you see at the top of the guide)
28/10/2012:
- Changed the cheat guide/item from
Deathfire Grasp to
Hextech Gunblade. =P So sad to see such a major change in the guide, it's just that now that the super burst that used to be there isn't, we need to harass more and lower their health more, this is where the sustain and statistics from this item come in. Overall it is just a better build for the current state of the game. Still considering that both items are relatively equal now though.
25/10/2012:
- Changed the item description of
Deathfire Grasp to no longer include the old stats.
- Owing to popular demand, I've moved
Boots of Mobility to the alternative boots section.
- Added the colour to the Game phases section
- Changed the lane matchups section to include
Elise the spider queen and to now 106 champions!
18/10/2012:
- Moved
Katarina to the hard tier. Courtesy of rjfc. I will not move
Kassadin however.
- Adding colour to the new areas of text that lack it. Coming soon!
16/10/2012:
- Removed the
Tempest / Cripple from the abilities that reveal you because he's practically in melee range if he was to use that on you and would see you anyway by then.
- Fixed some spelling errors in the Alternative mid section to EXP section instead.
- Changed the misguiding text in the ability description of
Hate Spike to scales off instead of deals. Credit to Furaidochiki for that :)
- Changed the comment section relating to
Boots of Mobility owing to NicknameMy's suggestion. However, this is how I build her. There is no reason for you not to experiment with the build because after all you are your own player this is here to get you thinking.
- Modified junglers in the FAQ.
- Worked some more on the early, mid and late game playstyle and section.
- Changed the title of the runes chapter to have a + sign on the end.
- Added suggestion to use table of contents at the top of the guide for returning users.
11/10/2012:
- Added some more information to the tips and tricks, in the Abilities section pertaining to
Evelynn's passive
Shadow Walk ~naming common abilities that can reveal her through her stealth.
- Added the experimental ALTERNATIVE mid lane where this is theoretically a higher damage build. However I realised that building this way may result in a lower Mres value and should only be taken if you are sure that you aren't going to be trading or harassed by your opponent. Method behind thinking will be found underneath the spoiler in the comments section of the items.
2/10/2012:
- Created a latest update section in the introduction section of the guide.
- Changed the lane matchups section to 105 champions. Small change, nothing major.
1/10/2012:
- Thanks to Zeprido, I've changed the lane matchups section against Katarina relating to her powerful ability to zone and lane early in the game.
- Added some information on
Kha'Zix in the lane matchup section. Still needs work and your feedback however.
- Changed the opposing team number of champions to 105 champions owing to the new addition of
Kha'Zix.
28/09/2012:
- All thanks to hellfire2201, who pointed out an error within my build. I have accordingly changed the masteries for Jungle
Evelynn as you could not have points in
Lethality
without putting four points into
Deadliness
. XP such a silly error.. Please do point out if I have any other errors with my guide.
- I have prepared a spot for Kha'Zix in the lanes matchup section. I know that he is primarily a jungler but chances are that he'll feature in a lane sooner or later.
25/09/2012:
- Moved
Evelynn from Easy to Medium in the lane matchups section. This decision was because laning against 'yourself' is a battle of wits and skill and, although
Evelynn is relatively squishy, player skill is unknown, it was because of this that I opted to move
Evelynn to the medium tier in the lane matchups.
24/09/2012:
- Created the Changes log
- Thanks to MysticalZelda, I've added a comment under the items section relating to
Doran's Ring. I'm possibly considering moving it to the FAQ section. Please comment if you would rather have it there.
