Like the biggest problem i have is transitioning from early game to midgame.
For example when i do well as nocturne i will go like 4-0 early game, but then midgame kicks in.. and i just start dying, lots.

The main character like i said i have problems with is nocturne and shaco, infact i stopped playing shaco because of this, but now hes always banned so i never bother to try and learn him.
Also when it comes to late game, i feel like i shouldnt be focused, but i am. OR it seems like i am, usually always dead in team fights. In team fights all i do is wait for the engage by our tank, then i ulti onto their carry or someone out of position, but yeah i die.

I usually build nocturne something like this (dont have a build set in stone):
Wriggles -> Attack Speed Boots -> Heart of Gold -> Phantom Dancer -> Frozen Mallet -> Infinity Edge -> Blood Thirster -> Randiuns Omen

In every game I have been in that people have brains, they focus the one champion that has most potential to annihilate their team. If you generally start off 4-0 then they have a good reason to focus you: if they don't they die.

Another thing, most melee champions have to build defensive because they have no choice but to get in the middle of the fight, otherwise they are useless.

Waiting for your tank initiate is good, but charging to the back of their team to get the carry is not. Usually Nocturne's target is going to be the squishy ranged carries. They are always as far from the fight as possible, still close enough to do damage and hide behind their team. By ulting on the carry, you are putting yourself in the middle of their team and away from yours, out of position.

Again, I say, you need to build tanky items a little sooner so you can take a hit. Overall you may do less damage, but less damage and alive is better than a ton of damage and dead before you can even make use of it.

So should i build frozen mallet before phantom dancer?
It just feels like phantom dancer helps nocturne do more damage than any other item...

I don't event think you need Phantom Dancer for Nocturne. Frozen Mallet is ok but I do prefer Trinity Force unless you are going atmogs. I have a few seperate builds for Nocturne as he's my best jungler and I always go for some tanky initiation build (because that's what he's good at). Some possible items include Sunfire Aegis and Banshee's Veil. They work great on him =)

I usually build nocturne something like this (dont have a build set in stone):
Wriggles -> Attack Speed Boots -> Heart of Gold -> Phantom Dancer -> Frozen Mallet -> Infinity Edge -> Blood Thirster -> Randiuns Omen

Youmuu's Ghostblade > Phantom Dancer.
Infinity Edge and Bloodthirster is a bit overkill on the offense. You'd be better off with items that help your survivability. Try getting some more health or resistances instead. Personally I find Atma's Impaler works very well. Banshee's Veil and Wit's End are great options for magic resistance.
Thanks to The_Nameless_Bard for the sig!

@Caster
Trinity Force, i know that in being a noob i dont exactly have much right to say this, but dont you think that is a bit silly? For example in a whole fight theres only 4 trinity force procs that nocturne could possibly get off. It doesnt exactly sound like nocturne could exploit its benefits much.

@Temzilla
Thankyou, i havnt tried building nocturne as an Off-Tank yet, ill give it a go.

@PsiGuard
I checked out your guide, and it seems like a really balanced build ill have to give it a go though before i can comment.
I find it odd though that Youmuus ghostblade is the only item you take with attack speed, doesnt nocturnes passive mean that much then?

The Brutalizer and Last Whisper are both items that are rather cheap and allow you to throw out a massive amount of damage pretty early. Both are very good for any auto-attack champion. They both also allow you to build whatever tanky item you need because they give you enough damage to last until late game.

The Black Cleaver is also very good at giving you what you need, though it costs a little more, it gives you much more damage output and the attack speed that you like.

The build I find myself using most: Mercury's Treads _ Phage _ Wit's End _ Glacial Shroud (Trinity Force or Frozen Mallet depending on my mood) Frozen Heart and then finish off by getting more armor or magic resistance only if I need it. If I don't need it, I usually get The Bloodthirster.

You don't stay alive as a squishy melee.

You stay alive as a tanky melee.
