Big threat, he wants you to engage him and you'll lose the trade usually, he also outscales you massively.
Kalista
Her ult does your hardest job for you, engaging. Take this and run with it you can do a lot of really fun plays.

Hi guys! My name's Pocket and I'm a League of Legends guide creator. I make video guides on YouTube as well as doing VOD reviews with an assortment of high ELO co-hosts on Twitch, and sometimes I even get chance to play the game myself. In it we go over some of the more abstract concepts that are harder to convey over text to really help you master Sett Support and I suggest giving it a watch!
Because of this he doesn’t need items to be relevant in lane and is great on a support’s low gold income. That said, he does drop off into the mid and late game, especially when you finish your support item and your gold earnings drop off a cliff, so it’s worth noting that your playstyle will be very different to a toplaners.
So When should we be picking Sett? Sett is not the safest first pick, very long range mages counter him due to his inability to engage them and their unwillingness to engage him, but he survives better than others in his category due to his health regen passive. Therefore I’d suggest picking sett when you at least know the enemy support. If they have a squishy healer who is vulnerable to a big engage then you’re in the money. He’s also great into engages such as Blitzcrank, Leona, Nautilus etc who’s Q only serves to engage for Sett and he can often come out on top. He also works great into Ezreal, who can be a slippery little fella at the best of times and suffers against Sett’s suppression and ability to control the direction of the fight. On the other hand sett struggles against champions that want to be engaged upon, such as Taric and Braum.
Sett’s biggest issue as support is his engage. For this reason, the combination of Hexflash, Nimbus Cloak, Celerity and his Q makes Sett truly shine and is 100% necessary to make him work on botlane. This gives sett a solid and reliable engage mechanic and once he gets onto an ADC he isn’t letting go.
This is pretty limiting though, and it leads us onto our next section, which is Runes.
Phase Rush gives a big speed boost and 75% slow resistance when activated by attacking the same enemy champion 3 times in 3 seconds. This is great for Sett as it allows you to stick in Auto Attack range for hard engages, but also to exit swiftly and safely during in-lane trades or engages gone wrong. |

Plated Steelcaps The first and most common defensive choice. Personally I only build these into full AD comps but I always build these into full AD comps. Even when ahead these are just a fantastic build when the enemy are all physical damage auto-attackers and bringing your own engage potential down a little to absolutely nuke their damage is an awesome trade, so don't be afraid of this even when you're ahead Also a good pick into double AD botlanes like Senna or Pyke support |

Mercury's Treads Great into heavy CC botlane comp's, it's the best way to buy tenacity on Sett and because you won't be getting any from the runes these must be on your radar if the enemy has lots of ways to lock you down |

Turbo Chemtank This is a great item on Sett, it is substantially more powerful than Shurelya's Battlesong, but it comes with a hefty pricetag, 500 gold more. However if you have gotten ahead and/or fed then this item is definitely the best choice. It makes you much tankier and the immolate passive allows you to deal a lot of damage too! It also has better engage, as the movement speed increase is higher and doesn't decay, but remember it only affects you, so you may end up leaving your allies behind! This is okay when you have ult though, as you can simply catch the enemy, CC them, and then direct your ult in a favourable way to get your team onto them for a kill! |

Shurelya's Battlesong This is my favourite item on Sett when I'm not fed, the speed boost synergises incredibly well with Sett's engage style (of simply running at you like a mad lad) and the damage buff makes for you and allies makes you pretty strong early on. The best thing about Shureyla's though, is it's cheap price tag and good build path. This makes it much better when you're playing from behind, which is a nightmare on Sett anyway and this is usually my pick when I'm being beaten in lane! |

Vigilant Wardstone Vigilant Wardstone is the key item for supports. It is upgraded easily due to your warding support item and the passive ability to not only hold 3 control wards, but to place an extra control AND stealth ward is huge. Vision control should not be underestimated, especially by newer players, and this allows you to really take advantage of vision and map control. Build this every game! |

I believe the support item build path is the most underrated option for Sett support. By choosing the high utility support items, which cost very little gold in comparison to other build paths, you stay relevant while providing the team that you hopefully got fed during your strong laning phase with much needed peel and utility through the various passive and actives these items supply | Damage is simply put, not worth it. The items, such as Death's Dance and Trinity Force are extremely expensive and it's just not your job to be a damage dealer after laning phase. Don't go down this route, no matter how fed you are, it's a great way to throw a lead and lose a won game. There are so much more efficient ways to use your gold and your lead! | Tank is viable and there are actually some great tank items that also provide much needed utility in soloQ. I still prefer the support item pathway, but situationally tank really shines, such as into heavy sustain (with the use of Thornmail. |

Knight's Vow The bread and butter of Sett's support build path, it provides innate peel for whichever carry you deem worthy of such an honour and also gives you movement speed toward them, as well as HP, and as we saw earlier, Sett scales great with HP on his W. |

Zeke's Convergence 110% the most underrated item on Sett Support. It synergises brilliantly with your high CC kit, while also providing a significant amount extra damage to champions for you and your ally. It also gives some much needed health, which goes great with your W and some armour which is always welcomed on the botlane. I truly believe this item makes you a monster if you have a sufficiently capable teammate to use it's passive properly. |

Thornmail The most common tank item I build on Sett (after Dead Man's Plate of course) due to the fact that enchanters are strong on botlane right now. If your ADC is stubbornly refusing to buy anti-heals, then going for Thornmail, or even just holding onto a cheap Bramble Vest will give you antiheals that can swing both early trades and late teamfights alike. Remember, it is important to be flexible in your builds and really think about what is necessary |

Spirit Visage Spirit Visage now buffs both healing AND shielding. This makes it fantastic for Sett and should always been considered! It also offers haste, health and magic resist so it's great when the enemy have a lot of magic damage as the pure support items for Sett only give health and armour! |

Force of Nature A great item into AP heavy comps. It gives you a massive flat magic resist of 60, as well as a passive that stacks MR and movement speed during fights! Both of these synergise well with Sett, and are a great addition to his kit! |
Use Q after your right punch in fights, this is to maximise sustained DPS as you do not want to cancel your right punch, unlike with stealth wards.
Just because you can go in doesn't mean you should! Sett is so fun and so flashy that it can be tempting to take every opportunity to engage and I see a lot of players engaging way too much. You don't need to unless you have the upper hand.
Ult choices: There's a lot to this one that you will have to learn yourself through experience but here's my best tips. Ult their engages away from your carries and start a new fight on your own terms and Ult their carries/supports into your team and get them deleted.
