Vex. A champion release that wasn't overcomplicated with revives, invis or other bs. Vex is another champion that I enjoyed playing and genuinely had fun playing. This is my in-depth, all-in-one and the only (hopefully) Vex guide you'll ever need! I'm currently ranked Grandmasters and hit Challenger awhile ago. I'll be updating this guide as I get more games in on the live servers :) Make sure to follow my socials to get the latest/upcoming content!

Vex's kit is somewhat simple and can be picked up easily! If you do have any questions about Vex, make sure to let me know! I stream on Twitch so drop by and ask! I'll answer your question(s) in a timely manner.

If the guide was any helpful to you, a thumbs up vote would be great! I hope you'll enjoy my guide just as much as I enjoyed creating it. Remember, the only way to get better is to practice!

NOTE: I'll explain why you should take each rune and when to take something else. If something is unclear or you have a question, you can always let me know (via Twitch livestream, comment section, etc..) and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Electrocute Setup

Phase Rush Setup

IN-DEPTH REASONING ON WHAT ITEMS YOU SHOULD BUILD. THIS IS LIKELY TO CHANGE ONCE I HAVE MORE GAMES ON THE LIVE SERVERS.
Doran's Ring + two Health Potion: Just a great starting item. Gives you mana and more minion damage (which is really helpful. It took me some time to get used to last hitting).
Corrupting Potion: If you want to play very aggressive, meaning if the enemy jungle is playing something like Karthus or Shyvana that perma farms, then taking Corrupting Potion can be nice to win the early trades.
Luden's Tempest: Great item if you're up against very squishy enemies. I've heard people talking about building Everfrost for the extra root, but I feel like your passive Doom 'n Gloom already does a great job of peeling yourself if the enemy tries to dash onto you. If the enemy runs at you, Phase Rush would be helpful.
Riftmaker: If you're against tanks and bruisers, building Riftmaker will allow you do extra damage and be alittle more tankier to cycle out your abilities. If you want to be fancy, you could go for Hextech Rocketbelt, but you will run into mana problems if you don't "ration" your mana.
Sorcerer's Shoes: Build Sorcerer's Shoes if you built Luden's Tempest. Gives you extra burst damage.
Plated Steelcaps: If you went for the Riftmaker route, I heavily suggest you to build a defensive boot type. This ensures that you won't get 1 shot and allows you to survive a bit longer for your passive to come back up. Ionian Boots of Lucidity is also a great choice if the enemies don't have heavy burst.
Mercury's Treads: This is great against heavy cc or ap comps. Very effective versus champs like Cassiopeia, Syndra, Leona, etc...
Zhonya's Hourglass: This item can really turn a fight around. When used correctly, you can use Zhonya's Hourglass just to stall for your passive to come up and then fear everyone away. Wouldn't recommend building this 2nd item if you went for the Luden's Tempest build.
Void Staff: If people are starting to build magic resist, then start to build Void Staff for your third item. Gives a lot of magic resist penetration and a decent amount of AP. If your team doesn't have grevious wounds, then you can build Morellonomicon for your 3rd item.

Horizon Focus: Horizon Focus works really well with your Q, E and R. Not only hitting your Q, E and R reveals the enemy, it also increases your damage dealt to them for 6 seconds! If there are no burst damage and you went for the Luden's Tempest build, then build Horizon Focus second.
Cosmic Drive: This item makes you tankier, movement speed AND ability haste! Having 40 extra ability haste feels really nice as you can use your abilities often and you are prone to getting one shot with the extra 200 health.

Rabadon's Deathcap: If you aren't already one shotting enemies then building Rabadon's Deathcap will take your damage to a whole different level :)

PASSIVE - DOOM: Periodically, Vex gains Doom, which causes her next basic ability to Knockdown icon.png knock down and Flee icon.png fear affected enemies for 0.75 / 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 (based on level) seconds, during which they are Slow icon.png slowed by 60% − 99% (based on distance from Vex).
Doom's Cooldown reduction icon.png cooldown resets upon respawning.

INNATE - GLOOM: Nearby enemy champions that dash or blink ( Flash), as well as targets hit by Looming Darkness, will be marked with Gloom for 6 seconds. Vex's next basic attack, which becomes non-projectile, Mistral Bolt, or Personal Space against a marked target will consume the mark to deal 30 − 180 (based on level) (+ 25% AP) magic bonus magic damage and refund 25% of Doom's cooldown.

Against marked non-champions, Gloom deals 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60% (based on level) damage and refunds 10% of Doom's cooldown.

My Thoughts

ACTIVE: Vex unleashes a wave of mist in the target direction, dealing magic damage to enemies it passes through and accelerating in speed though reducing in width after travelling 500 units.

My Thoughts

ACTIVE: Vex emits a shockwave around her before the cast time, gaining a Hybrid resistances shield for 2.5 seconds and dealing magic damage to all nearby enemies.

My Thoughts

ACTIVE: Vex commands Shadow to fly to the target location, increasing the radius of the area as it travels. Upon arrival, Shadow deals magic damage to all nearby enemies and slows them for 2 seconds.

MAGIC DAMAGE:
50 / 70 / 90 / 110 / 130 (+ 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60% AP)
SLOW:
30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50%
Looming Darkness will cast at max range if cast beyond it.

My Thoughts

ACTIVE: Vex commands Shadow to launch itself in the target direction, granting sight of the area along its path for 0.4 seconds each and dealing magic damage to all enemies hit.

INITIAL MAGIC DAMAGE:
75 / 125 / 175 (+ 20% AP)
Shadow stops upon colliding with an enemy champion, marking them for 4 seconds and revealing them for the duration. Shadow Surge can be recast while the target is marked.

RECAST: Vex commands Shadow to pull her towards the marked target with displacement immunity, upon arrival consuming the mark and dealing them magic damage.

IMPACT MAGIC DAMAGE:»
150 / 250 / 350 (+ 50% AP)
If the marked target dies within 6 seconds of being hit by Shadow Surge, Vex can cast Shadow Surge again at no additional cost for the next 12 seconds after 0.5 seconds.

My Thoughts

Having Flash is crucial since you don't have any dashes to escape. You can also use Flash or cancel your R2 Shadow Surge.
I would take Ignite for the early solo kills and better 2 v 2s. However, if you feel like you can't kill the enemy opponent, then taking Teleport can work too.

I will be covering how you should play vs mobile champs and vs long range champions. I will provide you with a "template" for the early game and some videos on how you can play Vex. Like any template, you can always change and "innovate" my playstyle.

When you are going up against any champions that dashes or blinks, your kit becomes more abusive and powerful. Everytime a champion dashes, they will be marked will Gloom. If you auto the champion that's marked with Gloom, your auto does more damage AND it reduces your fear passive cooldown Doom 'n Gloom.

From levels 1-3, you should be poking the enemy with Mistral Bolt when they walk up to cs. If the enemy ever gets close to you, use Personal Space to fear (assuming your passive is off cooldown).

Let's say you're up against a LeBlanc, you can use your Personal Space when she jumps on you to fear her, then use Mistral Bolt to do more damage. Remember, if you auto an enemy marked with Gloom, your passive cooldown will get reduced! Autoing every time a champion dashes/blinks can greatly improve your winrate on Vex.

If you're poking and landing your abilities, the enemy should be forced to take a really bad reset. Use this time to shove and back. However, if you aren't landing abilities, don't worry. Vex scales pretty hard vs champions that dashes/blinks.

If you took the electrocute setup and Ignite, you are able to solo kill any champion if you bought some items.

Well, your passive Doom 'n Gloom won't have as much value as versus champions with dashes, but it's still playable. This is where you could take Arcane Comet instead of Phase Rush or electrocute.

This laning phase is just about surviving and playing for jungle fights. You can always use Mistral Bolt on cooldown to attempt to get decent trades.

If you realize the enemy isn't that good, you could go for more aggressive trades. For example, if you're against Xerath and he's been missing everything, then you can walk up and use the standard trade combo ( Mistral Bolt + Looming Darkness + Personal Space).

If the enemy is immobile, you are able to 1 shot or at least burn the enemy's Flash with the all-in combo.

Solo Kill - #1

( Camille)

If enemies dashes in onto you, you can instant W Personal Space (if Doom 'n Gloom is up) to fear the enemy away. In this clip, Camille E's in and I instantly pressed W Personal Space and then follow that up with my Mistral Bolt + Ignite to finish her off. (Since my passive wasn't up, Personal Space did not fear Camille)

Use of Phase Rush

( Ashe)

In this clip, I was Vex adc. The idea still applies to mid lane. You want to auto the enemy laner first, then with your passive Doom 'n Gloom up, use your Q Mistral Bolt and another auto to proc Phase Rush. This works with electrocute too.

Cancelling Enemy's Abilities

( Pyke)

Any abilities that needs to channel like Pyke's Q, Akshan's R, Lucian's R, Anivia's R, etc can all be canceled with your passive Doom 'n Gloom + any other basic ability. In this clip, when Pyke was channeling his Q, with my passive up, I was able to use Mistral Bolt to cancel his Q.

Teamfighting #1

( Vex)

There are many ways to play a teamfight. If you aren't fed, you can stand aside and use your abilities to poke. However, if you are ahead (but not to fed), stand aside and wait for the right moment to go in with your R Shadow Surge + W Looming Darkness combo.

Teamfighting #2

(Very Fed Vex)

If you are ahead... Here's a clip of what you can do to a team : )

Use your R Shadow Surge. If it hits the enemy, you can press R again to pull yourself towards them. Just as you're about to "hit" the enemy, press W Personal Space to fear the nearby enemies and Q Mistral Bolt to finish them off.

If enemies ever get too close to you, use W Personal Space + Q Mistral Bolt will usually win you most trades.

Hope yall took one thing away from this guide (hopefully more)!

I enjoyed writing this guide and testing out many many different types of builds/runes setup.

If you found the guide helpful, make sure to give it a thumbs up. Otherwise, peace out and have fun fearing others on the rift!
