Introduction

Welcome future Anivia gods!
I'm Wengster a 22 years old streamer from Germany. League has been a part of my life since early Season 1. I started playing competitive as a midlaner in Season 2 and have been playing in the German scene EPS (now called ESL Meisterschaft) with multiple teams.

My accounts are usually Diamond 1 or Master since S3, while peaking Challenger in multiple seasons. I started to play Anivia in season 3 and have played her occassionaly every season since then.

While I am streaming in German you can still ask me EVERYTHING you wanna know about Anivia and most other midlane and toplane Champions as I have played over 17.000 games of League and know nearly every matchup!

This is my first month of making guides, so feel free to give me feedback in the comments!
I'll update this guide with every patch. I will probably make one for each of my other champions that I played over 300 games, if there is enough interest.

Here are the other guides i made so far:

Runes

and

Arcane Comet is great for trading in lane and scales really well into lategame.
Anivia's abilities provide a lot of Crowd Control which allows for easy hits with Arcane Comet.

Manaflow Band gives you a little mana sustain in lane and a decent amount of passive mana regen, as well as 250 maximum mana when it's fully stacked. This helps Anivia a lot since she needs a lot of mana to clear waves or fight, while not having a guaranteed Crest of Insight!

Transcendence grants you 10% cooldown reduction after reaching level 10. Anivia wants to get a lot cooldown reduction. She will build Archangel's Staff and often a Zhonya's Hourglass and reach 40% cooldown reduction with Transcendence. Anivia doesn't want to fight before hitting her first powerspikes which makes Transcendence a better choice than Absolute Focus.

Gathering Storm gives Anivia additional scaling which supports her throughout the game. Gathering Storm is the best choice, since Anivia won't force fights in the early game.

Perfect Timing provides Anivia with a defensive tool to negate burst potential before reaching her Seraph's Embrace or Zhonya's Hourglass. This Stopwatch is also worth 250 gold when you upgrade it to Zhonya's Hourglass.

Biscuit Delivery provides Anivia with more mana and health in the laning phase. Anivia wants to go back to base to get Tear of the Goddess first. Her high manacosts and no health sustain can make it hard to stay in lane until you reach 850 gold. Biscuit Delivery helps her get through her weak early laning phase.

Summoner Spells

  • Is by far the best summoner spell in the game. Always choose it!
  • Anivia has no mobility which makes Flash her only escape tool.
  • Flash gives you scaling with the environment, which means that you can get over walls using Flash to escape or chase enemies.
  • You can even use Flash to get through championmade environment like Jarvan IV's Cataclysm or Trundle's Pillar of Ice.
  • Dodging Abilities with Flash last second gives you great outplay potential!

  • You can leave your lane as soo as you can afford Tear of the Goddess and use Teleport to get back to lane without loosing too much farm or experience.
  • You can join teamfights on the other side of the map while splitpushing with Teleport.
  • Teleport can be used as escape. If Anivia channels it before taking fatal damage while her Rebirth is available, she will still teleport to her destination as an egg.
  • Using Teleport on a ward behind your enemies backline can give you a great flanking opportunity!

Abilities

Rebirth

Upon taking fatal damage, Anivia transforms into an egg, dispels all debuffs, with 100% of her maximum health for 6 seconds, during which she channot act. While in her egg form, Anivia gains -40 / -25 / -10 / 5 / 20 bonus armor and bonus magic resistance (level 1/5/8/12/15). If the egg survives, Anivia is reborn with its current health.

  • Rebirth allows Anivia to play more aggressive against most Champions.
  • If Anivia starts channeling Teleport before getting into her egg form, it will still teleport her as long as her channeling doesn't get interrupted by your opponents abilities.
  • In the early game Rebirth will only help Anivia if she's either close to a teammate or a tower that can protect her! With negative bonus armor and magic resistance she becomes even squishier in egg form.
  • In mid and lategame Rebirth gives Anivia a lot more resistance. If you aren't close to an opponent with a lot of damage, Rebirth will most likely revive you even in teamfights.

Flash Frost Range:
Cooldown:
Mana cost:
1075
10 / 9.5 / 9 / 8.5 / 8
80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 120

First cast: Anivia launches a massive chunk of ice which flies towards the target location, dealing 60 / 85 / 110 / 135 / 160 (+ 45% AP) magic damage to enemies it passes through. At maximum range Flash Frost detonates automatically.

Second cast: Anivia shatters the ice, dealing the same magic damage to enemies within the detonation and stunning them.

Enemies damaged by Flash Frost are slowed by 20/ 30 / 40% for 3 seconds (increases with 2/3 points in Glacial Storm). Enemies can be damaged twice by Flash Frost.

  • Keep in mind that you have to reactivate Flash Frost to shatter it when your opponent is close to you.
  • If you try to escape from a gank or an enemy that chases you, shatter Flash Frost as soon as it's in range to your opponents. This way you loose half of Flash Frost's potential damage but you stun your enemy earlier.
  • When trading or catching someone with Flash Frost, make sure that you only reactivate it after it flew over the enemy Champion and already damaged him once.
  • When facing assassins like Zed, using your Flash Frost to farm, might give them an opening to engage you since it's your only Stun.
  • Using Flash Frost together with Glacial Storm allows you to waveclear really fast.

Crystallize Range:
Cooldown:
Mana cost:
1000
17
70

Anivia summons an impassable wall of ice at the target location. It's 400 / 500 / 600 / 700 / 800 wide and lasts for 5 seconds.

  • Crystallize can be used to interrupt channeling abilities like Karthus Requiem or Fiddlesticks Crowstorm. Use it on top of the caster to interrupt them with displacement.
  • A perfectly timed Crystallize can even interrupt dashes that aren't unstoppable like Zac's Elastic Slingshot. Use it exactly on the position they are in while dashing to interrupt them with displacement.
  • Anivia can use Crystallize to zone enemies that have no movement abilities and even catch them if you place it behind your enemy.
  • Crystallize can be used to manipulate your opponents movement.
By blocking a path that your enemy intended to walk through, "auto pathing" might send them into your abilities or even into your team. The enemies Champions will walk the shortest free route towards their target destination that is now available.
  • Crystallize can stop Sion's Unstoppable Onslaught or even redirect Kled's Chaaaaaaaarge!!!.

Frostbite Range:
Cooldown:
Mana cost:
650
4
50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90

Anivia blasts the target with freezing wind, dealing 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 (+ 50% AP) magic damage. The damage gets doubled against targets that got stunned by Flash Frost within the last 3 seconds or damaged by a fully formed Glacial Storm within the last 2 seconds.

  • Frostbite is your main damage spell aside from your Glacial Storm. With low cooldown and low mana cost it's the ability you will use the most.
  • You can use Frostbite to last hit minions that you would otherwise miss.
  • Stunning an enemy with Flash Frost and following it up with Frostbite gives you a lot of trading and poke potential in lane. If you are certain that your Flash Frost will stun your target, you can cast Frostbite while Flash Frost is still in the air.
  • In teamfights try to use your Frostbite as often as possible, even if your enemies aren't stunned of impacted by a fully formed Glacial Storm.

Glacial Storm Range:
Radius:
Cooldown:
Mana cost:
750
200-400
6
75 + 40 / 50 / 60 per second

Passive: Increases Flash Frost's slow by 0 / 10 / 20%.

Toggle ON: Anivia calls forth a driving rain of ice and hail at the target location, dealing 40 / 60 / 80 (+ 12.5% AP) magic damage each second to enemies within and slowing them by 20 / 30 / 40% for 1 second.

The blizzard increases in size over 1.5 seconds. At maximum size enemies within the area take 200% increased damage and are slowed for 1.5 seconds by 30 / 45 / 60%.

After Glacial Storm has been active for at least 1 second, Anivia can toggle it OFF. The ability will automatically toggles OFF if she gets too far away or runs out of mana or if she gets hit by interrupting Crowd Control.

  • Glacial Storm is Anivia's best waveclearing ability. While it has a low cooldown you shouldn't spam it as soon as you reach level 6 since it will drain a lot or even all of your mana if you keep it toggled ON for too long.
  • Using Crystallize behind your enemies while they are trying to get out of Glacial Storm can push them back into it. This will also make their retreat a lot harder.
  • Always consider the different locations you could cast your Glacial Storm at:
    • You can use Glacial Storm to zone your enemies away from yourself or your teammates.
    • You can try to deal as much damage as possible with Glacial Storm and put it directly onto your enemies frontline.
    • You can try to seperate the enemy team by placing Glacial Storm and putting your Crystallize right next to it to create a "longer wall", so enemies will either take damage or wait out Crystallize's duration to join the fight.
  • In later stages of the game, Glacial Storm will deal a huge amount of damage each second which makes its placement even more important.

General Tips

In Lane

Against most Champions with a lot of damage in lane like Karthus and Cassiopeia, Anivia's laning is all about staying safe while not falling too far behind in farm.
If you get pushed into the tower, you can use Frostbite to farm and get lasthits that you would miss otherwise.
Do not randomly use your Flash Frost to go for harass. It's the only thing keeping yourself safe. If your opponent tries to go aggressive, punish him with Flash Frost followed by Frostbite. Keep your distance as long as your Flash Frost is on cooldown to avoid getting damaged for free.

Against lanes that only want to scale as well, Anivia can try to play a little more aggressive. Use your Flash Frost whenever you are certain that your enemy will go for a lasthit to hit it for free while he is in his autoattack animation. If it hits, follow it up with Frostbite and autoattacks. If your opponent gets close to you while your Flash Frost is on cooldown, using Frostbite while autoattacking can still be a great trade.

If you have a health advantage in lane you can keep poking your enemies with autoattacks and Frostbite to apply a lot of pressure.

If you are at a disadvantage, keep in mind that you have Biscuit Delivery! Use the cookies when you are nearly out of mana to ensure that you get their maximum mana value, since they restore 15% of your missing mana and health!
Most of the times you will be able to reach your Tear of the Goddess without any problems.

If you are facing an AD assassin like Zed or Talon opt for an early Cloth Armor to negate their Serrated Dirk's lethality powerspike.

After reaching level 6 and getting access to Glacial Storm Anivia's waveclear becomes really strong.

Anivia's low base Movement Speed and her lack of mobility don't give her a lot of roaming potential. Focus on farming and work with your jungler to get kills in and around midlane.

In Midgame

While Anivia can go to a sidelane to continue getting solo experience and farm, she can also clear waves in midlane without a big risk. If Anivia has a Crest of Insight she can keep her Glacial Storm toggled ON for a really long time without losing too much mana.

Each time you put a point into Glacial Storm after the first one, it also increases Flash Frost's slow by 10% each. This makes reaching level 11 and 16 even more valuable!

Starting in midgame Anivia potential to teamfight in chokepoints becomes really strong. Especially teamfighting inside of the jungle allows Anivia to shine. Using your Glacial Storm while spamming your Frostbite onto the same targets provides a lot of damage.

You can use your Crystallize as described in the abilities section.
When in a fight, keep your enemies inside your Glacial Storm with Crystallize, while not getting too close to them yourself is most of the times the safest approach.

Do not position yourself aggressively, if your enemies still have their Crowd Control abilities available. If your Glacial Storm gets interrupted you will lose its damage and zoning potential, as well as the potentially increased damage on your Frostbite!

In Lategame

Basically, same as in Midgame. At this point Anivia can deal a load of damage.
She can potentially oneshot squishy enemies with Flash Frost followed by Frostbite or destroy bruisers and tanks with her damage from Glacial Storm and Frostbite.

You can stay in your team's backline. You will deal more damage than most other mages at this point, while also being relatively tanky with Rod of Ages, Seraph's Embrace's shield and Zhonya's Hourglass's stasis.

In General

Always keep in mind that teamfighting requires a lot of mana! If an objective like dragon will spawn soon and you are already low mana, go back to base a minute earlier.

Your Crystallize can also be your teammates downfall. Your immobile teammates can't walk through Crystallize!
